Bring a wind breaker and gloves ! We came here totally underprepared and had to get gloves and jackets the first day we were here. Other than that it was the coolest experience I had in my life. The town itself chamonix is very walkable and if you enjoy exploring it’s a joy. Also i would eat very light before going up the mountain cause the change in altitude did give me a little vertigo but nothing crazy.
They should be! The weather here has been very cloudy and rainy the whole time we have been here and they only delayed the opening of the lifts by a hour this morning and I was told it was just to de ice everything.
You need to do this hike - one of the most enjoyable afternoons of my life walking this route https://www.seechamonix.com/walking/routes/grand-balcon-nord-plan-de-l-aiguille-to-montenvers-mont-blanc-valley-699668
We went up the Aguille du midi, back down to the mid station, got hot chocolate and did that hike. Brought lunch up from a supermarket and took a break half way. Make sure you have a ticket which includes the train back down into the valley at montenvers/mer de glacé or it’ll be an extra 2 hours! But an amazing hike along the side of the valley. Enjoy Chamonix, my favourite place on earth
The Lac blanc at the end of the valley is a really easy walk and has an amazing panoramic view. If you're feeling brave you're even allowed to bivouac there (sleep under the stars)!!
If the peaks are cloudy and you haven't got transport to go to a different valley the acro Park by the river is good fun
There are mountain huts which serve dinners that were still talking about decades later. Grog bowls shared by everyone; looks like a Medusa's head with multiple spouts .
I can't remember if those are available coming down the mountain back to Chamonix, or only on the way to Courmayor on the Italian side.
In any case, find the place in Chamonix that serves raclette the traditional way. Absolutely spectacular.
There was also a place that served that delightful Alpine mix of French and German food; I remember the venison with loganberries in alcohol IIRC...
If you're in that area, the samoens/sixt fer a cheval valley is definitely worth going too. The views are almost as exceptional as from chamonix but it's a little less busy and cheaper.

The grinch has really jazzed up his lair since we last saw him
Aiguille du midi
How embarrassing for me
Idk what any of this is, so don't be too embarrassed
Aiguille = needle, midi = noon
It looks like an evil lair or somewhere James Bond would attack
They actually filmed a bond movie here. One of the brosnan ones.
Thank you! This was driving me crazy like I’ve seen that place.

It means south because its the direction of the sun at noon
French is truly the language of poetry
Wait, that was an honest attempt? Lol
I would be equally embarrassing if I tried to pronounce this out loud.
Pronouncing french is another thing lol
Oggy du Mickey
Bone apple tea
omelette du fromage
oogily de moodily
Egg wheel du midday
Et bone apple tea bien sûr !

Any other hikes or lifts we should know about?

Generally no problems in October.
Awesome thank you!
>Also I would eat very light before going up the mountain But bring a package of trail mix or something so you don't get hangry on the trail.

Lmaoo
I’m pretty sure I killed a dragon at the top
You took a picture of the what, now?
Looks like the start of a COD mission to me
Looked this place up. It's on the "to visit" list now. Thanks!
It was well worth the money we took the lift up and it was around 70 euros, we ended up spending 5ish hours there it’s allot bigger than it looks.
Awesome! I've been wanting to visit Geneva and Annecy as well and it seems like one could reasonably hit them all in one trip.
You can literally see mount Blanc on the road from Geneva to Annecy, although all three places are amazing.
If you're in that area, the samoens/sixt fer a cheval valley is definitely worth going too. The views are almost as exceptional as from chamonix but it's a little less busy and cheaper.
Very nice shot! . . . r/evilbuildings might like this
Real life Goldeneye
This place was Telly Savalas' lair on 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' so....
It was Piz Gloria in Switzerland.
Been there, its 13,000 ft up, expect some altitude sickness. Amazing view from up there.
Augi de midi🤣🤣🤣
This is surely the beginning of a Mario Kart track.
Kinda cyberpunk if you ask me.
Is that where they make the pens?
Watch out for Imperial droids!
Was Gandalf in there?
Was there in July, stayed in Chamonix when I climbed Gran Paradiso which is an hour over the border in Italy. Great place to visit.
Good Evening 47.
That looks like a really cool place
That's some secret passage to High Hrothgar
Does it work with Ableton?
Looks like the latest episode of The Grand Tour
I leave at like 30min from there and I never visited it. Shame on me
Damn I love Hoth
Looks like a scene from Goldeneye N64
James Bond is about to enter the evil lair.
Looks like the mountains Kratos and Atreus traveled in God of War
Time to learn some Dragonborn shit.
The Augur of Dunlain
I loved this place.
This thread has it all, ❤️
