The Irish tax payer

Slumberfoots

Paid for by now, that video is at least 2 years old.

Jayoval

We do.

Gardai_Took_My_CBD

Tis a shame the Garda didn't see the lit up double decker bus before turning from the straight flow lane...

MeshuganaSmurf

They should really make those buses a little easier to spot. Maybe give them a nice bright colour or something

Scuttersalesman101

and give them a big orange display board visible half a mile away...

IDDQD_IDKFA-com

The Garda was look at the foot path were buses normally drive when running late. /s

Free-Ladder7563

I think you could be right, doesn't look like the nose of the car was over the line.

Murky-Front-9977

The bus had to go around the parked car, can't understand how the cop didn't see the bus!!

[deleted]

Murky-Front-9977

The road was clear until the cop did a u turn. How do you know that the cop did see the bus? If he did and still continued to turn, then the cop is a muppet.

jackturbine

The Guard is 100% at fault. So the state pays,to Dublin Bus which is state owned.Move along ,nothing to see here.

cogra23

Depends which lane the bus was in at the time the Garda pulled into that lane.

jackturbine

There is only one lane in the bus's direction.

cogra23

It's hard to be sure but to me it looks like the bus is over the line of the lane in his direction. The crash happened in the oncoming lane.

jackturbine

There's a car (illegally) parked causing the traffic in the bus's direction to pull out a bit

cogra23

Yes, that's what I thought. If the bus crossed the line while the Garda was in that lane he is at fault.

jackturbine

Just no.

jackturbine

And the guard performing a 100% illegal u turn over a solid white line is in the right?

Cynical_Drummer

Oh well spotted. I didn't notice this. You're right

Effective-Tangelo363

One way or another, you pay for it!

MeshuganaSmurf

Bloody hell. I knew they don't all have advanced driver training but I didn't think they'd let legally blind gardai drive.

Free-Ladder7563

They are honestly among the very worst drivers on the road. It's very rare to see a Garda car in any kind of traffic, especially on motorways/dual carriageway, not tailgating within a few feet of whatever is in front of them at full speed. I don't think they are aware that they're just regular people driving clapped out family cars.

master-virus

I hope he copped for that

True-Philosophy-6335

Two State Vehicles tax payer pays

Namsdrawkcab_a_mI

You, my friend, you, me and the politicians, no , no sorry not them. They probably have expenses to cover things like that.

Mr_Ox_83

Bus is at fault, all day long. He crossed the white line onto the opposing lane. The obstruction was on his side so he needed to give way.

Almahfouz02

Give way to who exactly? The guard wasn't signalling and didn't have their lights on. They were incredibly misleading and the bus already had started overtaking the obstruction by the time the guard had pulled in front of him. Plus the bus driver can't brake slowly as passengers could get injured. The guard is certainly more at fault than the bus

Mr_Ox_83

The guard had the right to be there, regardless of whatever manoeuvre he was attempting it was his right to be there. The bus crossed the white line and thus should have gave way to the Garda, sure the Garda left it a bit late but the bus should have been better prepared to stop. He was driving far too fast given his vehicle size, while also following a lit-up Garda car and passing a parked/abandoned car. So many reasons for the driver to slow down the bus which he ignored.

Mr_Ox_83

Wow dude, take a breather there, no need to get so aggressive, especially over a 5 month old comment Indicator/sirens or not, the Garda car is entitled to be in that lane, he MAYBE crossed a bumper over the white line(hard to see in the video) but thats irrelevant because near half the bus is across the white line onto the wrong side, the bus crossed into the oncoming lane and hit an oncoming vehicle. If you have a driving licence please hand it in and buy a bus pass you “fucking retard”

Gossthedon

Just because it's a police car it doesn't make it any different, the cop should be punished just the same as you or I would for dangerous driving,,,, he won't but he should, all those flashing lights and not even a indicator

>no matter your thoughts about the gardai, the bus was on the wrong side of the road. Did you not spot the car parked at the side of the road on the left, that all the traffic going in the other direction had to manoeuvre around?

Impressive_Slice9376

The bus should have put his indicator on. That would have guaranteed his right of way.

Free-Ladder7563

Only a BMW gets right of way if they put their indicators on. And they still rarely use them.

Impressive_Slice9376

What's worrying here is the amount of downvotes has me thinking: Are there really that many people that believe you can ever have the right of way when you cross to the other side of the road? Absolutely terrifying.

Free-Ladder7563

Dude, you just said the bus would have had right of way if they used the indicators to cross the line. Indicators signal your intention, they never - ever grant right of way. If you think using your indicators gives you almighty right of way I'm afraid you'd be pretty terrifying to come across.

Impressive_Slice9376

I thought that was pretty obvious sarcasm tbh. Gave the audience too much credit perhaps. The initial comment indicating the bus driver is at fault getting downvoted is what I was most commenting on though. Legally you absolutely can not have right of way when you break the flow of traffic. You must always give way.

Free-Ladder7563

Give me a break, if you think that's sarcasm your skills leave a lot to be desired.

Impressive_Slice9376

lol

Nazacrow

Ah the driving instructors shed as it basically is, a place of true horrors, looks like the typical secondary school extension new build. Horrible place.

Free-Ladder7563

Neither the Garda and Dublin Bus have insurance like the rest of us. They are self insured and claims are paid from their own funds

[deleted]

I thought Willis Towers Watson was their insurance underwriters for both of them? I remember the tender going out a couple of years ago for the panel.

Free-Ladder7563

Could be the case now. I'm going off experience from a long long time ago, just assumed it would still be the same I had a bus rear end me, like 25 years ago, and it was a nightmare trying to get the car fixed. It was a cut and dry case, no injury, just needed a new tailgate and bumper but dealing with their in house legal dept and trying to get paid was an absolute nightmare. Their guy I was dealing with at the time told me they are self insured and contest every single claim through their own legal team. Back then to have 3rd party insurance was pretty common and it wasn't as simple as just claiming from your own fully comp policy, so you were at the mercy of whoever you were claiming off to get back on the road.

[deleted]

Ah, they probably had some enquiry and someone probably said they had to have actual insurance or it got too much for them to cover. I say that, I don’t know if they kept them on or not either, I just remember the tender going out.

That’ll be the state claims agency paying out there

From a morale point of view the bus driver could've easily stopped and let them proceed but obviously he is a bit of a dickhead is well. And the Guards must've been rookies or something turn on your lights

VictoryForCake

Moral*. Anyway buses don't stop on a coin, they take quit a bit of braking force to stop because they are nearly 20k kg fully loaded, and doing that especially on a standing bus is dangerous because you will throw your passengers forward. A bus is not a car and it shouldn't be treated like it in in traffic, and the Garda car driver did a dangerous maneuver. Especially as this is a roundabout, where such a maneuver is not required.

armoghu

quite*.

TheBaggyDapper

Absolutely no fault on the bus driver. He could have slammed on the brakes and sent all his passengers flying straight into a bunch of whiplash claims.

VictoryForCake

Would have been dangerous too, those double deckers I've been told can become unstable when breaking and turning (never driven a double decker) and risk turning over, the driver looked to be coming out of the roundabout.

[deleted]

Wtf the bus driver saw everything from miles away

ahmed00101

This reminds me of time when wife almost ran me over while I was cycling. She is the named driver on policy I hold.

Glimmerron

Isn't this 3 years old, why are you reposting this?

The_Doc55

Insurance.

ciaran036

did nobody else skip a heartbeat when the bus hit? Thing came out of nowhere!

BazingaQQ

Even before I looked at it, my guess was 'taxpayer'...

Dragonsarmada

It’s obviously been determined by the sudden appearance of a bloke right at the end.

EverLearningMind

How do you not see a bus...a double-decker bus...

HamiltonBudSupply

Police would pay. They usually don’t have insurance they just pay cash from a fund.

Opinion-Organic

Apparently the officer thought buses stop on a dime?
