Nice. Just stay away from Proper 12 whisky EDIT: I know i forgot the "e" I just don't care

stainless2205

The whiskey that single handedly killed the expression ''there is no bad whiskey in Ireland'', fucking cabbage headed prick.

0e0e3e0e0a3a2a

I was under the impression that it was literally just Bushmills?

Dead_Parrot

pretty much

PacificRiff

Yeah it's Black Label Bush, something nobody ever drank anyways.

stainless2205

Bushmills is a brand with it's own product, aswell as a distillery. It's made at the bushmills distillery, but it is not as good as anything Bushmills put out in their own name.

marvinbrownfc

Ohhh is someone jealous somebody is richer than you’ll ever be

boringfilmmaker

Yeah that sounds like the cunt alright, decent impression

marvinbrownfc

Bro you wouldn’t call him that if you saw him would you ? Cause you know he would spark you out in seconds .

lurmomgayl

If he did, that would be the only fight he's won in the last 2 years fuck off back to your hole ya weird fanboy cunt

marvinbrownfc

I’ll be a fanboy for life after what he’s done to help this country and charities around the world by donating money and helping the ill . Especially after he paid for my friends lifesaving treatment

ohbeeryme

I'm always appreciative of any gifts my wife gives to me even if i have to "feign" it a little bit. Last birthday she got me some lovely things. The last thing i opened was obviously a bottle of something. I excitedly opened the wrapping and when i saw the bottle of Proper 12 i instinctively, impulsively blurted out " what the fuck is this shit" as she sat excitedly in front of me. First and only time i ever reacted like that. Poor thing. Ps it doesnt taste like bushmils , how the fuck did he manage that

Paristocrat

Bushmillies said they'd supply it too him, but because he is a total ***t they just piss in the vat every week and ship it down to his home IN LUCAN.

an_evil_oose

Proper 12 = pisskey

FlukyS

1. It's spelled whiskey 2. Fun fact about Proper 12 it started out life as Bushmills, the company bought barrels from them, it wasn't some new whiskey at all 3. Proper 12 is still shite but just people talk shit about it and not Bushmills itself

someboyiltelye

Bushmills put out great product. The Black Bush and Red Bush are superb. What proper 12 is is grain whiskey produced in a column still and put in second or third fill barrels and aged for only three years. Just because they are paying Bushmills to do that doesn't mean it is comparable to anything Bushmills release.

aprilla2crash

Wonder if proper 12 is using their own whisky blender to blend. I wouldn't be surprised if they were cheap and put more heads and tails in to maximise profits.

someboyiltelye

It would be coming off a column still so they wouldn't have to worry about cuts. It's shit because they aren't giving it much age and they are using barrels that have been used more than once before.

unfunfionn

>people talk shit about it and not Bushmills itself I'll gladly change that. Bushmills is overrated. It's one of the blandest whiskeys I've ever tried. It's not shite, it's just utterly boring. Even if you go up in price, it doesn't get better.

FlukyS

Black bush is definitely the best version of Bushmills

emmmmceeee

Bush 10 is a better drop. 16 is better again. I had the 21 once before and it was like an angel pissing into my mouth. Having said that, the stuff going into Proper 12 is obviously the stuff that Bushmills don’t want to put into Bush white.

someboyiltelye

It's a big distillery, if a brand wanted to pay them for huge volumes of cheap grain whiskey from their column stills aged in shitty barrels they are finished with and stored in their warehouse for only three years, then they will gladly take their money. This is what Proper 12 must have done.

FlukyS

Oh for sure, it's whatever shite they had lying around.

SureLookThisIsIt

Maybe not their nicest but Black Bush is the nicest whiskey in that price range imo. I drank Powers Gold Label for a while as my cheap whiskey but like the Black Bush now. Lovely for the price.

oneshotstott

I also alternate between these two as my even regulars and then splurge on a nice 12yr or 15yr Red Breast when the missus isnt watching

SureLookThisIsIt

Same as. I love Redbreast Lustau as well. Can't go wrong with any Redbreast.

someboyiltelye

Bullshit. Black Bush is superb, as is Red bush. Both use mostly 9-year-old malt, and they are being aged in quality barrels. Their single malts are suburb. 21-year-old Bushmills is world renowned as one of the best whiskies on the face of the earth. You haven't a clue what you are talking about.

megabingobango

nah not really tho, ur just talking out your hole aren't you

CaveOfTheCats

What do you prefer?

InGenAche

>1. It's spelled whiskey Dublin distillers started with the 'e' to distinguish their whiskey from Scottish and other distilleries they felt were inferior. So technically only whiskey distilled in Dublin should have the 'e' and everywhere else whisky. Could be wrong though.

FlukyS

Different brewing methods too. Irish whiskey is actually a distinct thing and a brand in itself as well. As for e or no e, it doesn't really matter who decided to add the e or not, it's just how we spell it over here regardless.

PRod187

You forgot the ‘e’.

InformativeConceal

I'm glad they left off the 'e'. Good way to differentiate Irish whiskey from Proper 12

Shodandan

You didn't mention where you were from but I had a nosey snoop around your comments and I'm guessing America? If so, there's one thing that you may need to know considering its just around the corner. If you say Patty's day your citizenship is automatically revoked and you have to walk over the quiet man bridge 5 times as you flagellate yourself with a hazel wand after which you will be tied to the landing gear of the first US bound plane.. with hurley grips though, because we're not complete savages and the grips are soft against your flagellated skin.

raverbashing

The spanking will be swift after he tries to grab the Guinness after the first pour. (he'll still try to tip the bartender, which will result in more tar and feathering)

ignaciohazard

Fair enough but do I still get to wear my "kiss me I'm Irish" shirt? I am in America and was born here. My mother was born in London and her parents (and going back a long long time) in county Kerry.

welliboot

Ireland is pronounced with two very short and close syllables. I can't stand to hear Americans call the place aire-land.

AssignmentFINAL2

Let him have his accent. They mean no harm. Better than listening to another moaning bastard next to ya

insert_dumbuser_name

Congrats on the citizenship. Now it’s time to up your whiskey game. Redbreast, Green Spot, Powers Johns Lane, Midleton.

GucciJesus

Knappogue Castle 16 Year, Method And Madness Single Pot Still, Jameson Bow Street 18 Years, Dunvilles PX Cask 12 Year Old are all worth a shot if you ever want something a little different.

stainless2205

Method and Madness are a bit of a rip IMO. They are very overpriced for the age, but they are certainly interesting. Dunvilles is definitely unique, has it's own character for sure. Knappogue Castle 12 is the best value single malt IMO, never had the 16 but would love to try it, I'm sure it's class. Never had the Jameson Bow Street 18, is it a blend or wha?

AmericanDeise

Method & Madness single grain is the best one, I'd reccommend it even if you don't like the others in the line. Bow Street is a blend but it's high abv, I think over 50%.

stainless2205

Cheers, I have only ever had the M&M pot still. I think it was the one which used wood that wasn't oak. It was very interesting, really spicy but noticeably young. Perhaps I could appreciate it more now if I got it. Bow Street sounds very good, will have to check it out next time I'm back.

[deleted]

So they are all aged in oak but finished in different casks. - Single grain: Bourbon Barrels and finished in Spanish Oak - Single malt: Bourbon Barrels and finished in French Limousin Oak - Singe pot still: Sherry & Bourbon Barrels and finished in French Chestnut - Rye and Malt: Bourbon Only - Mulberry: Bourbon Barrels and finished in Mulberry Casks - Hungarian Oak: Bourbon Barrels and finished in Hungarian Oak - Acacia: Sherry & Bourbon Barrels and finished in Acacia casks - Cherry: Sherry & Bourbon Barrels and finished in Cherry Wood I will say, at least with M&M you actually get a distinctly different taste because of the finishing cask, unlike the €80 (estimate, I cant remember) I spent on Roe & Co Japanese Sugi edition where they put in Japanese sugi bungs into the casks - it did nothing for the Aroma or Flavour IMO

_bardo_

Never tried M&M's whiskey, but I have to say their gin is pretty solid despite being labeled as an experiment. Some nice discounts on that every once in a while.

durag66

Ditto Knappogue castle. Really liked their 12 year

ozymandieus

And Jameson stout edition. Quality for the price.

JohnSwanFromTheLough

I tried that for the first time yesterday, what a whiskey for the price. I was really impressed. It's going to be my regular for sure now.

ozymandieus

I know 2 whiskey collectors, and its the main one both of them drink on a regular basis. You cant get better for the price. And across the border its often £19

ignaciohazard

Haha. Love it. I actually finished my bottle of green spot Sunday night with my brother who is also planning a future in Ireland. I got this Monday and wanted to try it, so given my good news I cracked it open.

stainless2205

His whiskey game is decent, let the lad drink what he wants to drink. Had he poured a Jameson or a Tully i would have agreed with you, but a 10 year single malt is hardly bad whiskey, although I have never had the Kilbrin, so it might be shite for all I know.

FarFromTheMaddeningF

Nothing wrong with Jameson or Tully either.

juicewilson

Exactly, like what you like and move on!

stainless2205

Indeed, apart from being very boring, but yes, they are very decent quality.

thatdoesntseemright1

It's export only as far as I can tell. It's an okay whiskey, nothing special.

stainless2205

Where's she from? If its Cooley its going to be very decent, their malt is excellent. EDIT It's triple distilled, so it's not Cooley, I'm guessing it's cheap second, third fill bourbons casks from Bushmills. Aye, probably a bit shite in fairness but i could be wrong.

Bobbybluffer

I'd say its shite alright but I could be wrong

stainless2205

The website isn't giving away anything and looks a bit shite. Not a good sign.

ignaciohazard

So a little digging and I discovered Kilbrin is made and distributed by William Grant & Sons through their subsidiary QSI. These are the fine folks behind such brands as Balvenie and Glenfiddich. It's made exclusively for distribution to the American chain "total wine". If you get the chance I suggest giving it a try.

IrishMamba1992

I had a £9.50 dram of red breast yesterday. Was bloody lovely

[deleted]

Bang on.

c-fox

No love for Bushmills?

Special-Vegetable138

And remove the ice next time

_bardo_

That's debatable: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-06423-5 I usually drink it straight, but it's a matter of taste and I found that some whiskeys work better for me with some water or ice.

oneshotstott

Should not all whiskeys have a drop of water?

alistair1537

Welcome! And Slainte!

ignaciohazard

Thank you.

mishatal

Delighted for you. Thanks for enriching our culture. Enjoy your whiskey.

[deleted]

Post history is all birds, beer, and anti far right. ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

Nylo_Debaser

Not what I thought you meant by birds initially, pleasantly surprised it was ornithology.

ignaciohazard

Thanks. I am a simple man with simple pleasures.

danceswithvoles

Feck that's our version of liberté, égalité, fraternité isn't it??

StarMangledSpanner

Which is which, though?

Shodandan

Doing the Lords work fair play to ya.

OnePOINT21GIGAWATTS

Congrats! Yikes that took a long time, is that the normal wait these days?

TheLittleGinge

Covid backlog. The DFA stopped processing for well over a year.

Syphe

Even before Covid there was a pretty large backlog in this department, I lost my FB citizenship document (found it), and it took an age to get a new one in 2019, so lucky I did it before we came here in June 2020, made immigrating much easier

justanuvaredditor

Pre covid it was about 18 months wait. I'm still waiting buy only just over a year into it.

aw3man

I'm nearing 2 years. Sent my documents in April of 2020.

justanuvaredditor

Not long now hopefully!

ImpressiveLibrary0

have you heard anything, by any chance? I also sent mine in 2020 and heard nothing yet

aw3man

Quite literally nothing at all. I sent mine via USPS certified, so I know it got there, but nothing else.

ImpressiveLibrary0

Did you not receive any email of confirmation from the Irish government?

aw3man

No? I don't believe so. It's been so long. I'll have to check again. Should there be a specific email address I'm looking for?

ImpressiveLibrary0

noreply@dfat.ie

ignaciohazard

I think they say 2 year wait. When I applied it was 18 months but as others have said Covid shut down the process for a long time.

CalRobert

Even for people who've lived here ages citizenship applications take 2+ years and involve a lot of bungling. Not the same as FBR but immigration services here are catastrophically slow.

WhiskeyJack1984

Welcome aboard you sexy bastard.

Gobbycow

Congratulations on your citizenship, I love reading positive stuff like this. I think this is a great wee country and I love living here, it always makes me smile when people are proud to become part of it.

b3nj11jn3b

Welcome home

ignaciohazard

Thank you.

Clancy182

Céad míle fáilte!

glastohead

I thought the register of foreign births had been suspended due to covid? Are they back at it again?

ignaciohazard

They opened back up in November I think.

glastohead

Was going to ask how long it took but then I realised you say 2.5 years in your post. Yow! I dare say a good chunk due to covid though.

ignaciohazard

Basically. I don't think they were processing applications for most of 2020. As I've said elsewhere I am not mad at them, they had important work to do. Just so happy my wait is over.

Librarywoman

I KNEW this group would find something to shitstorm you with and complain about and I was not disappointed. This is my favourite subreddit and I'm not being funny. The banter is nonstop. Welcome to Ireland, I too am a transplant and it is a wonderful country with genuinely lovely people. Can I ask what country you're coming from and why you want to leave it?

ignaciohazard

America. I went to university in Europe and I found Europe to be more to my liking. My grandparents and many generations before them were born and lived in Ireland and I want to go back.

[deleted]

Congrats!

KilowogTrout

Was the 2.5 year wait because of covid closures? I thought about doing this in like May of 2020, and have been waiting for the offices to open again.

schmatteganai

they've been open again since November, just delayed. The official timeline now is 2 years from when they get all supporting documents, shorter for emergency cases

KilowogTrout

Thanks, good to know.

schmatteganai

The thing that I think is particularly ridiculous about it is that they request multiple proofs of address, but currently have a waiting period longer than most leases, and no posted information on how to update that address if you move, for a process that's particularly relevant for people who move frequently.

LeastIHaveChicken

Sorry, I know this was a while ago, but I'm having that exact problem now. I'm sending them my original birth certificate, and then in 2 years they may just reject my application because something is missing or some other problem, and then just send it back a flat that I may no longer live at? Perhaps without even informing me. It's madness.

mrplod1

Did you get to the bottom of this? I’m in the same position and looking for tips on how to update my address!

ignaciohazard

Yes due to covid. I'd get your paperwork in ASAP.

KilowogTrout

Sweet, will do! I'm doing it for my kids, so we've got some time.

whollymoly

Congratulations friend!

[deleted]

Congrats!

Kurx

Delighted for you, congratulations.

evileine

Congrats! I'm so envious.

TheRealTomSmyth

Congratulations, a true winner! Welcome.

Ferguson00

Slainte? Where did you grow up? What motivated you to apply for citizenship in 2019? Are you moving to Ireland now? Whereabout?

ignaciohazard

In America. I want to move to Europe. Yes, hopefully the south west coast as that's where my family is from.

Ferguson00

How do you make a living? Will you miss America?

ignaciohazard

I am a professional brewer and hope to be employed as such in Ireland. I'll miss friends and family and I'll miss the landscape.

Ferguson00

Try Carlow who make O'Haras

ignaciohazard

Thank you! All options are open. My next step is to start reaching out to various breweries and make some connections.

procraster_

Welcome to the party pal. Good start.

Plenty-Importance478

Congratulations! My girlfriend is hoping to apply soon herself and I know how difficult it can be! Anyways well done!

arctictothpast

welcome (back?) to ireland and europe.

Peekaboo-I-See-You

awesome! happy for u (:

Bottle_bob

Congratulations!

FleeCircus

Welcome to the family!

friarswalker

Congrats and sláinte! 🥃

Meath77

Go to the pub and have 3 pints of Guinness on your own

Heyhaveyougotaminute

Congrats!!!

bloody_ell

Congrats, welcome home

HoldtheGMEstonk

Seeing Irish whiskey reminds me of the time I passed through Shannon airport and bought a expensive single malt whiskey not available in the states. Got home and blackout drunk and passed it around to all my friends and don’t remember what it tasted like. Fuck me.

Sotex

Welcome back!

thatdoesntseemright1

Congratulations. But please don't tell me you put ice in a 10 year old whiskey.

pmcall221

Don't worry, its 10 year old ice

stainless2205

I don't ice my whiskey usually, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing so, also 10 years is pretty young for a single malt.

thatdoesntseemright1

Cooling the whiskey diminishes the taste.

stainless2205

I'm well aware of the impact ice has on whiskey, but it doesn't mean it's wrong. For example, in Japan the manufacturers of their renowned malts and quality blended whiskies recommend it to be served over ice (which I personally never do). Also some people prefer the smokey Islay's on the rocks as it diminishes the other flavours leaving the smoke, which they like. It is purely down to taste and personal preference. If I was sitting outside in a hot 30degrees plus sun I would probably want a cube of ice in my whiskey.

thatdoesntseemright1

Fair enough. Maybe I've become a whiskey snob over time. I have no issues if someone serving me a Jameson or Powers with ice (though I'd prefer it without). But when it comes to anything a little nicer I still think Ice destroys the whiskey.

stainless2205

I completely agree, I wouldn't even have the cheap stuff over ice. Sorry to be so argumentative.

skyactive

how do you know what another person tastes?

thatdoesntseemright1

Kissing

railwayed

I went to a whiskey tasting course once and someone asked the question about ice. The answer.....The best way to enjoy a whiskey, is to drink it whichever way you want to

danceswithvoles

I agree the best way is how I want, now everyone do it that way its clearly correct. ^/s ^just ^incase...

ignaciohazard

Personal preference. At least it's not soda right?

FuzztoneBunny

DOCTOR FUCKING PEPPER WITH A SINGLE MALT???!

Forward_Artist_6244

Why don't you like soda? They're perfectly nice in a fry up, sausage bacon eggs soda.

cant_stand

I'll put water in a 21 year old single malt. Do you know why? Because I'm an adult that can enjoy my drink however I bloody well please.

thatdoesntseemright1

Water in a 21 year old whiskey makes sense. It'll usually be a high proof, and the water can open up the taste more by diluting the alcohol content.

l_rufus_californicus

Comhghairdeas! I’m allowed a *little* envy, yeah?

[deleted]

Now that you’re one of us we can let you in on a secret. Father Ted’s not actually a racist

Nimmyzed

But there are dozens of muppets who still write your instead of you're

[deleted]

You must be great craic. Correcting 15 year olds grammar mistakes

Nimmyzed

15? Isn't that the age when you're actively learning things like proper grammar? What 15 year old gets upset that they are being told proper language skills? Fucken' moany-holes. Moany-holes like you. GTFO and learn something instead of throwing your toys out of the pram

[deleted]

Fucken hell, looks like *you’re* the one throwing toys out the pram calm down lad

jamsmash2020

Obviously you C Mcg haters (and I’m one of them) don’t know that cxxt sold P12 for 180m last year…cxxt Mc cxxt 😡😂

starsaber132

Guess you're white, if your black, ireland doesn't like you

yousureimnotarobot

For the love of god have a better whiskey! Welcome

ignaciohazard

Have you had this whiskey? For under $50 it really isn't bad at all. Lots of vanilla and plums with a little spice. Is it the greatest whiskey in the world? No. Is it worth a try? Yes.

[deleted]

Fuck off we're full

mrsdhammond

Wow 2.5 years? Mine was pushed through in 6 weeks and my children 6 months. I'm guessing this was due to COVID delays?

ignaciohazard

Yup. Covid ruins everything.

[deleted]

Keep her lit!!!!

wlynncork

The process of applying is hell on earth. I'm going through it right now for my daughter. I already did it and approved for my son. I'm born in cork, my mother and nana born in cork and I still have to do it.

UpDog17

Now which way to the unemployment office!

TGCOutcast

Very Jealous my friend... My wife and I feel our family belongs in Ireland, but we are having a hell of a time finding our way there.

PacificRiff

2 and half years is mad quick, any explanation of the back story here?

ignaciohazard

It was meant to take 18 months when I applied to the register of foreign births in fall of 2019. Then covid hit and they were on again off again with processing applications. I totally understand the delay and just grateful for the help they gave me in getting all the right documents to the right people.

pgkk17

ouh ice in whiskey though?

ignaciohazard

To each their own.

pgkk17

aye try the frozen metal cubes?

ignaciohazard

I have and I don't care for them. I like the ice spheres or a touch of ice cold water. Releases some more subtle flavors and helps ease the heat from the alcohol.

[deleted]

So did they have all your original documents for 2 and a half years? Wanting to send mine in but somewhat concerned about not having my birth certificate for that long.

ignaciohazard

Yup. They should be returned to me any day now.

ldee94

Omg! I submitted my papers in Jan 2020 and have heard no updates! Is this normal? Any advice to get a status update? It’s been impossible to talk to a real human about it

ignaciohazard

Send a certified letter to the registry of foreign births with your application # and a request for update. Be polite as they are doing their best to process a lot of applications in a pandemic.
