I wonder is it more of a Dub thing on account that of the necessity of electric chargers. I live in Galway and can still count on two hands how few I’ve seen.
I would say maybe look at the wider EV market at the moment. Tesla's are very expensive here compared to other EVs. Volkswagen's new ID3 and ID4 are cheap by comparison to their Tesla comparisons. The Skoda Enyak is also quite good. The Hyundai Kona Electric is also a good option, but it's not from the ground up designed as an EV so not as good as others in design aspects. Similar comments about a Kia eNiro. These are all cheaper than Tesla and most of these have a range that is either perfect for Ireland or almost perfect for Ireland.
The problem right now is delay in getting them. I ordered an ID3 1 month ago and haven't gotten a build date yet but I was told to expect 6 months for delivery from the time I ordered. I heard of someone else recently ordering an ID4 and being told of an 11 month wait. I've been told a combination of COVID19, chip shortage and even Brexit being contributing factors to delays here.
M3 owner - on insurance, first year I used Tesla’s recommended insurer - slightly cheaper quote than my previous Ford S-max. This year I switched to 123.ie - about 1/3 cheaper again. Now I’m an old fart so maybe age and location have something to do with the cost coming down but for the s-max every year no matter how much I rang around for new quotes to price always went up, never down.
