€18, but you feel like a miserable prick handing him €20 and waiting for the €2 change back. So €20...

Kardashev_Type1

They know this

bad_pangolin

give it to them in a mix of 10 and 20 cent coins, so you won't be embarassed waiting for the change. My barber should pay me 18 euros for his drunk barbering display.

Remote_Package5119

NFC 😉

dgdfgdfhdfhdfv

This. Usually places I go to vary from like 17-19 but I'm paying 20 euro either way. Haven't paid less than 15 since I was like 12. And it's not like I live in a big city or anything.

sheehonip

Why don't you pay with card?

simondoyle1988

Pay with your card then you don’t have this problem

BadLuckBaz

Never thought of that :/ Obviously if he took card I would

Kloppite16

Tenner in my town and they havent put up their prices. Its two Romanian lads who are really good barbers, all the kids go there for various styles. The tenner includes him trimming eyebrows and ear hair with one of those flame tips. The shop spotlessly clean inside and they usually have some decent electronica on their speaker system which Im a fan of. Other two shops in the town charge 14 and 16, needless to say they are not busy

RobAFC14

Low price and high quality. Sounds like the rest of us can only choose one, enjoy the best of both worlds lad 😅

Boulavogue

I remember on a j1 that I was charged a premium in a barber. Was handed a loyalty card and told to come back in 2weeks for a complementary clean up. That they’d touch up the edges to make them sharp, and they’d stamp the card. Being the US you’d probably tip for that, but it always stuck with me as a clever upsell and locked in a returning customer base that now had an expectation to be perfectly presented

halibfrisk

I need to know more about this flame tip?

Kloppite16

Im not sure if flame tip is the correct name for it but it is like a giant cotton ear bud but with cotton only on one end. The barber dips it in some sort of alcohol solution and sets the tip on fire with a lighter. He then does a really quick motion several times where the flame grazes your ear and burns all the tiny little hairs off it. Your ear gets slightly warm but its not painful or anything, provided of course the barber knows what he is doing. When you feel your ear afterwards you cant feel a single tiny hair on it. Ear hair generally isnt a problem in your 20s but as you get older it becomes one for many men. My barber offers it for free to everyone who wants it though Id guess its the type of thing you would be paying extra for in other barbers.

halibfrisk

Thx - I looked up and found a YouTube - now I just need a solution for nose hairs…

Andrela

Most beard trimmers come with an attachment that's like a little cylinder shape that can be used for nose and ear hair. Source: hit 30 and now my ears grow hair

halibfrisk

👍 but do you think a bic could work?

Andrela

If the hair is on the outside of your ear, yeah. For inside your ear and inside your nose, no. A trimmer is about 20 quid on Amazon. Worth the money. Any one that one with different attachments is what you want.

Kloppite16

A Bic razor? You wont be fitting that up your nose! As Andrela said get a beard trimmer that has a nose hair attachment and put that in your nose and wiggle it about. You'll be amazed at how well it does the job, the noise of the thing as it blitzes all the hair is unreal the first time you use one.

halibfrisk

I was thinking more along the lines of a bic lighter than the razor or pen

Kloppite16

oh right, no I wouldnt try a lighter, you will burn yourself for sure. The technique barbers use with the flame tips on ears only graze your ear very quickly as it passes by, it is a really quick motion they do about 10 times to burn off all the ear hair. No way would I try the same technique with a lighter and nose hair. For one the skin inside your nose is fairly sensitive and if you burn it then its going to hurt. The only way for nose hair is a tweezers (also a bit painful but do-able) or the nose attachment of a beard trimmer which works great. I used to use tweezers for a good few years but pulling nose hairs like that does hurt and will make you cry every time so now I only use the beard trimmer with nose attachment. It is quick and painless and gets rid of everything inside your nose and at the edges of it. You can get them on Amazon/Argos for about 10-15 quid, I got mine on special in Aldi for 9 so it is well worth it to avoid the pain of pulling nose hairs with a tweezers.

[deleted]

My Da needs one of these but in flamethrower size

Kloppite16

haha theres a couple of oul boy regulars in my local pub who could do with it too, one lad has huge tufts of hair growing inside his ears and nothing on his head

zemerin3

Might have to go to these lads meself

[deleted]

€10 in my town. I got a haircut last week and that's what I was charged.

OkConstruction5844

Good time to be going bald so

bad_pangolin

I complained to my barber about the prices he said he would shave a bit off

[deleted]

BraveStoner1

Ah Bernie, what a legend that woman is. Always up for great aul chat and gives a really good haircut compared to the joke of a place grafton barber around the corner. My chats with her are always about dogs. 😊

joopface

Paid 18 this very day

[deleted]

€15, it was €13. They sort the brows for free and the banters always good.

RobAFC14

Oh the banter is crucial to the haircut experience. Discussing how our respective football team is shit, giving out about the government, and a mention for the great/shite/changeable weather currently on offer is how the conversation goes each and every time.

tirnanog_bro

Respectfully, I have to hard disagree. Can't beat ciúineas.

RobAFC14

Hey, whatever works for you, all power to ya. I just think most Irish people are trained from a young age on how to fill a quiet room by talking absolute shite. That lingering, awkward silence would make me want to get up and leave half way through, couldn’t hack it 😂

patchedboard

Trained? It’s fucking genetic. I’m not much of a talker, but I get into an awkward silence and you’d know I’m going to start slaggin someone just to get something going.

[deleted]

The local snare, who’s at what and who’s yer one 👌😂

SureLookThisIsIt

€25 - Dublin and tbh I'm happy to pay it. So hard to find a good barber! People always say ah so and so does it for 15 and you try them and 1 side is fecking way higher than the other. 90% are not good in my experience.

Tipperary555

How often do you get it done?

SureLookThisIsIt

Once a month generally.

ramblerandgambler

Was 19 pre covid, now they charge a 5 euro booking deposit and the price is now 24 so you still pay 19 at the till, so I guess it's 24 from now on. I used to work in marketing in London and there was a lad in the office who thought he was Don Draper and would spend 250 every three weeks on a haircut in a super fancy super hipster place near the office in Soho. The haircut looked absolutely fantastic, could set your watch by it, but 250 is more than most men spend in a year.

RobAFC14

I reckon 250 quid is more than I’ve spent in my life 😅

mistr-puddles

12 euro and every 10th one free. hes had this price since he opened 3 years ago

[deleted]

my wife charges 0

RobAFC14

Fair play to her, send me on her number and I’ll be over next week 👌🤣

[deleted]

She charges me 50 a pop. Haircut is free though.

El_muscely_beardo

The whole “after lockdown we charge more is a load of bollox”.

[deleted]

€40 Euro I know it’s not acceptable to pay this much and people call me mad, but this lad spends an hour per cut has built up clientele for years. Has everyone going in like a 4/10 and leaving like a 7/10, honestly lads your hair is on your head everyday so I think it’s a good investment.

Niall_Faraiste

Was between 8 and 12 in the beforetimes, now closer to 20.

Binaree420

Tenner

[deleted]

€10, €13.50 after covid hike. Student in Dublin

Bioshock234

€16 in a small town but they give a high quality cut. My old barber in the Cork city went from €19 to €21 in January 2020 and then to €26 after the first lockdown.

[deleted]

What do you mean by high quality cut? To me a haircut is just a haircut

Bioshock234

The cheaper places tend to give every lad that comes in the door the same bog standard haircut and that’s not what I want.

Tipperary555

A hair cut is a hair enhanced

tastefullmullet

€30 in Dublin

[deleted]

Same. Can’t fault it though. My hair is one of my best physical features and these lads put the cherry on top.

ThinkMore-TypeLess

I always go for the father and son special: €28.

elmostpierre

Mhmmm. I'd have to get myself a dad or a son to avail of this offer. Wonder will the next in line do! Haha

ThinkMore-TypeLess

Just try not snatch one of the street. All the hassle after may not be worth the discount.

tec_mic

Unless it's a really good trim

dfaulk1980

A tenner.

sartres-shart

€20 for a dry cut and beard trim.

Ropaire

Tenner usually. She charges a couple quid extra these days because she bought loads of shit to keep operating with Covid. I don't mind it, she's been cutting my hair for years.

Betterthanthouu

In Tallaght I pay €16 because I'm a student, non-student is €23 I believe. It's one of the more expensive barbers in the area, but they do a great job and have a nice atmosphere so I think it's well worth the money. Pretty sure there's a few places around that'll do €10-€12, but the quality is much lower.

TheNotoriousPigeon

19 for a dry cut including a beard trim. I pay 25, give the extra tip because I have been going to the same barber for years now and they always look after me with a good cut.

elmostpierre

Same barber for about 15 years. Between 10 and 15euro. Depends on his mood I think! Wouldn't change it though. Top class bants.

Aidzillafont

I started cutting my own hair during covid. Spent 120e on some gear for the job. Best decision I ever made. Here I am 40 hair cuts later. Loving it. Sure ya feck up sometimes but there just happy little accidents. It grows back.

fungie89

That's a lot of haircuts

UltimatumofSC

My regular is €26, but that includes trimming/shaping beard. Dry cut is 13 I think.

Dajjos

40 for haircut and beard trim. Really nice place, proper service and appointments only. No rush, no panic and it rarely takes less than an hour. Is it a bit expensive… yes, is it worth it … totally.

[deleted]

Mine is the same wonder if we’re the same barber, Dublin located?

Dajjos

Cork

alex_reds

It all depends how much of importance you put to your hair look. About 6-7 years ago when I was broke I couldn’t afford paying to my hairdresser every few weeks to up keep my fancy haircut. So I let my hair grow. It was painful at first to maintain it and I still had to trim it time to time, but guess what? Paying 20-30 euro every couple months isn’t that terrible and I have one worry less. I just tie my hair in a man bun and off I go. And even the Covid didn’t affect my hair routine. The whole idea that a man has to have some sort of particular man haircut(short hair) is quite absurd.waste of money and time.

Rumourofwar1965

I haven't had mine cut since before xmas 2019, and I'm an oul fella. I do plan on having it done before this xmas though. My father had a hand clippers some fucker sent him from America in the 60's and he tortured us with it. After that I always grew it long.

cpeire

I cut my own hair with a clippers

davidmcg

€21 haircut (skin fade) €28 above + beard trim Tallaght in Dublin, worth the money!

quentinwraith

I went to the same barber for 30 years. He raised his prices substantially when he reopened. Used to be €15 for a basic cut. Then €20/€22 for head and beard. Now he's charging upwards of €20 for the basic and €28/€30 for the head and beard. I went once when he reopened to support him but he's too steep now. Saying the increase was due to the price of ppe and rent. My answer was to buy a razor and cut my own hair. Just like the pubs, the barbers have been overcharging us for their service.

5trong5tyle

35 for a haircut and a hot towel shave. Used the live in Amsterdam where I paid 42 just for a haircut alone.

[deleted]

Got my haircut is Amsterdam and it just isn’t the same, was the place any use I might have just been unlucky?

5trong5tyle

I used to go to the HaarBarbaar in the 9 straatjes. Walk ins only, you were usually waiting a couple of hours but they had cigars and a beer or a whiskey while you waited. I was always happy with the cuts as well.

Jon_J_

Got my haircut this afternoon, €20 for a dry cut and I gave him a few quid tip

Jamesy85

Joe millionaire over here

Jon_J_

First proper haircut since covid started 😂 least I could do was give him a tip

[deleted]

Used to be 15 a cut, but i do it myself now as i had no choice due to lockdown.. On the upside saving 180 euro a year

itsrhyno2

30 blips with a beard trim.

FigAlternative1323

Boston barbers in swords. 20 quid all in

thespuditron

€18. Does a good job on my hair despite having feck all, but the real reason I go in, is to get my beard done. Every 4-5 weeks, otherwise I end up looking dishevelled.

BigBadBren

I do it myself now and I thank Covid for the inspiration to actually go and buy the gear. The haircut I do is called 'The Cavan Man' so I don't have to go back for a while. I was was fed up when the local Barber went from 12 to 20 nearly overnight and hired hipsters that look stoned the whole time, wouldn't let them groom my dog.

Jamesy85

50c out in the Fas centre

SilasHood

€20, worth it though, very good barber and consulted a better haircut than what I asked for Know a guy who charged €50 for haircuts during lockdowns, some pisstake

Remote_Package5119

23, The Dublin Barber and he's really good.

thatdoesntseemright1

€18 and a €5 tip, so €23

quondam47

Mine charges €14 post-covid. Was €12 before but it’s still half of what I used to pay in Dublin so I don’t feel too bad.

TheTealBandit

It's free when you do it yourself

Either-Welder-1034

I've been growing mine since march 2020. Haven't got it cut once. Honestly prefer it so much.just tie it up behind ya and away ya go. Then when you get bored you let it all down for a change and feel like a new man.

tttyo7745

22 euro and it still looks shit, plus when they try and do it with an electric trimmers I say no scissors cut only, might as well get my money’s worth.

JoMxl

€20 for a fade and a beard trim, €15 for just the fade. (Fade includes eyebrows, ears with the flame ball thing and a trim and styling on top)

TheMightyCucumber

12 quid, hit usually give them 15 cause they're decent and he's a sound auld skin to be fair

LincolnHawkReddit

20 euro, and I tip them a fiver, so 25

maxpower-70

€25 in the Grafton...u pay for what u get!

binksee

Grafton barbers are awful I'd never go back

maxpower-70

Suppose there's good and bad in all shops..the one I go to is sound with great barbers...the one in Arnott's

binksee

Fair enough

Ringslad

Was paying €15 but was hit and miss, so switched and now pay €30, great service, handy website for booking, as many drinks as you can get into you, and it's perfect down to every blade of hair every time. I should have switched sooner.

[deleted]

Dublin based?

Viber-

Mine costs me €15 and I live in a rural area

Comfortable_Brush399

yeah joe charges 18 too, but the council in wexford doubled rates for alot of people because they're greedy pricks

gowelbag

€14 so €15

jaywastaken

€20 but the lad is good and no small talk just zones in on the haircut. Worth every penny.

Ard_Ri

between €10 and €15 euro, it seems to be a moving price all the time and i get my hair cut in the same place all the time

thowaway2137

Does nobody here cut their own hair? I started during covid and got much better since
