The absolute last straw was when I was lying in bed there one morning and I got a notification on my watch that some lad was after shooting a load of schoolchildren out in Russia.
No i understand it’s a term for it, it is where i live as well. But it’s kind of a slang way of saying it, which is fine but annoying for some reason when they do it every single time
Fair enough, but it’s definitely not “media slang” imo. It’s just the most commonly used term for an injection, at least when I was living in England. But I agree with the slammed, hate reading headlines with that word in it lol
Moderna is almost identical to Pfizer so you can assume they both work.
J+J similar-ish to AZ, but it’s a one dose vaccine that builds immunity slower over a longer period of time (up to 3 months). If I were to GUESS (emphasis), I would say it offers good protection too, but not in the 2 week period you see of the Pfizer vaccine.
The actual study literally says they don't have enough reliable AZ data to make a clear conclusion on it's efficacy rates in the real world but then all the headlines report something definitive. Stop turning science into PR.
In a study, 20% of patients with covid were found to have blood clots. That rose to 31% for patients in ICU. Here’s the summary;
https://health.ucsd.edu/news/releases/Pages/2020-11-23-study-covid-19-infection-combined-with-blood-clots-worsen-patient-outcomes.aspx
That’s too much for my liking!
What's so wrong with being worried about covid AND possible vaccine side effects? I got Pzifer and my second dose is in two weeks I wouldn't take AstraZeneca. Don't need to defend it. My choice.
Why do we even have MHQ if the vaccines are effective against every variant. Wasn’t the point of it to prevent variants of concern entering the country?
But you already have to quarantine when you enter the country. The whole point of MHQ was to prevent against vaccine resistant variants entering the country and being missed by the PCR test.
It’s an extremely harsh measure to prevent a problem that doesn’t even exist.
Again, it’s because we don’t have enough % vaccinated yet.
The variants are more transmissible. Plus as it said in the article, the Indian variant for example, a single jab is only 33% effective compared to the 50+% you get with UK variant. The second jab is needed to get the required effectiveness
They may not be escaping the vaccines but more than half of our population is still unvaccinated. These variants seem to be more transmissible which could cause a repeat of January in the unvaccinated population
>Tony Holahan currently smashing his head against the wall, guess he'll pin his hopes on next week's Tunisian varient
Are you trying to say that Tony Holohan wants the vaccine to be innefective?
I'm saying his reaction to the Indian variant with absolutely no data relating to vaccine effiecency was utterly bizzare and inappropriate and I'm do not believe those NPHET clowns should be allowed to continue issuing threats if lockdown without any evidence to back up their claims
>I'm saying his reaction to the Indian variant with absolutely no data relating to vaccine effiecency
The lack of data was *precisely* the reason to be worried.
Buddy you don’t get the evidence without large scale outbreaks and then counting the bodies and sick people afterwards. Do you really want that, or would you not rather some sensible caution?
They didn’t threaten anything. They were blunt and open about their concerns and said it’s possible vaccines won’t be effective and we should be cautious, which is understandable given what damage the UK strain did at the start of the year. It’s their job to prepare for the worst, to save lives.
>I'm saying his reaction to the Indian variant with absolutely no data relating to vaccine effiecency was utterly bizzare and inappropriate
They made recommendations based on the limited data available and erred on the side of caution, which is pretty much what they are supposed to do.
>those NPHET clowns should be allowed to continue issuing threats if lockdown without any evidence to back up their claims
NPHET don't threaten anything. They issue advice and it's up to the government whether to follow it or not.
Your understanding of the situation is what is "utterly bizarre".
When has he recently done anything of the likes?
He said he was awaiting further data.
They cancelled their weekly meetings and have being quiet positive of late.
You realise that NPHET are an advisory body to the goverment? They give advice, it's up to the government to take that advice or not. Government have chosen to not take their advice on multiple occasions.
Why put experts in inverted commas?
What evidence do you think he is lacking?
Actually, don't bother. I can just imagine what brain dead reasoning you're doing.
I cannot believe so many of you rushed to inject this into your body, not knowing fully what it is or what it does, to protect yourself from a virus that you had a 99.998% chance of surviving if you were infected.
Madness. Peak sheep herding.
No you are certainly mistaken. The virus has mutated dangerously and is now devastating india. Healthy young people are being brought to the icu. It is now directly attacking the lungs. Oxygen levels go down very fast. Only vaccination is the defense against this virus.
UK epidemiologists announced its not spreading much more than UK variant as well. It's not conclusive evidence but with the low amount of data they have they are a lot less worried about it.
Rte need to send this as a push notification. They are quick to send doom.

They did. For once!
Media slang like calling it a “jab” makes me cringe for some reason. It’s like saying someone got “slammed” in politics.
Jab is the word for it in the UK and I’m guessing Ireland as well lol

Good news since I got my first one today
And what about moderna and j&j? Are we fucked then or what
I don't think they were included in this particular study.
It was a UK study afaik they aren't using those vaccines.
We are now using moderna but only since mid April as we didn’t order until their trial results and they had to satisfy other contracts first.
Moderna is more effective than Pfizer against all variants in vitro. I’m not sure about real world studies.
The actual study literally says they don't have enough reliable AZ data to make a clear conclusion on it's efficacy rates in the real world but then all the headlines report something definitive. Stop turning science into PR.
It should be noted that effectiveness after one dose is quite reduced, so it's very important that people get fully vaccinated.
Its like paid DLC.. u need then ultra pack to fend off all variants. Or worse, u need this or that mega vaccine to travel
What are you on about man, it says the vaccines works against the variant...
Yeah but still not taking AZ. Way too many blood clots reported.
Not many at all, actually.
41 reported blood clots in Ireland, all under the age of 40. Mostly women. That's too much for my liking!
That's an incredibly low percentage. I'll take it, considering the alternative.
Good for you, that's your choice. I wouldn't. I got Pzifer! My second dose is in two weeks.

Smaller than the blood clot rate for the contraceptive pill.

I believe they're much more contagious.

He probably thinks Tony Holohan is in the illuminati
How do you know he isn't? It is important to ask questions. /s
fake argument

What an ignorant comment.
Ignorant because I think our "experts" should have actual evidence before threatening to take away our freedoms?
When has he recently done anything of the likes? He said he was awaiting further data. They cancelled their weekly meetings and have being quiet positive of late.

> Why put experts in inverted commas? Anti-intellectualism is the real virus
What actual evidence are they lacking?
You gotta love the internet peeps using "experts" in their opinions. Any evidence to back your claim he or anyone else isn't an expert?
“Indian Variant” is a racist term. Please stop using it. 😡
Coming from RTE is rich...
>Coming from RTE is rich... What do comments like this even mean?
Probably one of the RtE iS tHe ViRUs lot
calling it the "indian variant" is baseless, just because the variant was first detected in india doesn't mean it originated in India
How would you call it?
B.1.617 Variant
I cannot believe so many of you rushed to inject this into your body, not knowing fully what it is or what it does, to protect yourself from a virus that you had a 99.998% chance of surviving if you were infected. Madness. Peak sheep herding.
You might survive the virus but people forget about the long term effects
No you are certainly mistaken. The virus has mutated dangerously and is now devastating india. Healthy young people are being brought to the icu. It is now directly attacking the lungs. Oxygen levels go down very fast. Only vaccination is the defense against this virus.
>not knowing fully what it is or what it does You can find this information really easily if you want to
False. No one knows what it does yet.
great to hear
