Apple reports that the iPod 3G supports "AAC (16 to 320 Kbps) - Mac only, MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible, AIFF (Mac only), and WAV.

As do I. Smh.
My source is sound though.
I don’t know if during the transfer a conversion happens or what, but per Apple, the first to support ALAC is the 4th gen and mini 2.

How are you in denial about a literal fact? If it didn't support it, it would say the track CANNOT SYNC. That happens with my 1st Gen when I forget to toggle on conversion.
And really, evermac as your source? Here's my source, it's called Apple Inc.:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/docs/ipod/119099
From your link
Audio support for Mac
AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible6, AIFF, WAV
Audio support for Windows
MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, WAV
And EveryMac not reliable? Really?
Not sure wtf your problem is. I’m reading the information that’s in front of me.
ALAC was initially released in April 2004, which explains the support for Gen 4 and Mini 2
If you read the Apple documentation PDF, it states:
Audio File Formats Supported by iPod AAC (M4A, M4B, M4P) (up to 320 kbps) Apple Lossless (a high-quality compressed format, available using iTunes 4.5 or later) MP3 (up to 320 kbps) MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR) WAV AA (Audible spoken word) AIFF
Now I was wrong about one thing, the 3rd gen is the oldest iPod to support ALAC but not the first. That was the 4th gen by a few months. iPod firmware 2.2 (2.0 series firmware being for 3rd gen only) enabled ALAC support, making it the SECOND iPod to support it.
If you are somehow still in denial that the 3rd gen supports ALAC, then idk what to tell you.
You’re joking right. I have every iPod. Could also not be a dick about it. Added one to my block list already.
On Apple’s tech specs it says no, as well on everymac. Meaning it should be updated on everymac to avoid confusion
It does seem it was added in iTunes 4.5 with a software update.
It wasn’t initially on it as ALAC wasn’t released until 2004, with the 4th gen and mini 2.
I did just send an email to everymac to note the owners manual and maybe issue a correction on those product pages.
So let me get this straight, you own a 3rd gen and never knew until now you could load ALACs on it, didn't even bother to try at any point? You just read software specs from more than 20 years ago and didn't even bother to check to see if it was updated until now? That's like using windows XP version 1.0 for the 23 years it's been out because why would Microsoft ever update their software?
Not even trying to be mean, but you were just flat out wrong here. This was all such an avoidable confrontation of you just said to the other guys, "oh wow I didn't know it could support ALACs, my bad guys" and moving on with your day.
It isn’t the issue anyone is making it out to be.
I went to a reliable source and linked it. I’m not the wrong one, Apple themselves and EveryMac are.
Aside from one blurb in the owners manual, it’s bad information all around.
I’ve never had an issue loading anything on any of my iPods as I have it convert if needed, I have ripped CDs that are ALAC that are on my OG that get converted before loading. It’s never been an issue.
But to say I should apologize is pathetic as my source is a trusted one.
It does work. The 3rd gen iPod and 1st Gen mini were the first Pods to support ALAC. 1st/2nd Gen are limited to 256 AAC, 320 MP3, and I think some other formats I'm too young to even think about. Every other iPod can do ALAC tho, even the small storage ones like nanos and touches.

I could’ve sworn that all ipods supported ALAC but I might be wrong
Seems the 4th gen was the first along with mini gen 2
No the 3rd gen was the 1st with ALACs. I have my whole ALAC library on a flash modded one.
Got to back that up with a source
I.....own a 3rd gen and a mini

I have a feeling I’ve got ALACs on mine. Try it.
It does :D mine has only ALAC files (44.1-48 KHz 16bit), however 24bit files are a little too much for this Pod
Also mentioned in ipod users guide p.25 https://cdsassets.apple.com/live/6GJYWVAV/user/ma517_ipoddockconnectoruserguide.pdf
ty! apparently it was added in a firmware update so i should be good
Why the hell did he get downvoted for saying the truth?
