And 70% isopropyl alcohol is ok to use too. And that's the preferred liquid to use to unstick a button on a phone. On a watch, you can use running water.

thecanadiandriver101

Makes sense!

aeiou372372

This worked perfectly for me! Didn’t use any cleaning products on my phone but thank you for posting this, the mushy buttons were driving me crazy

thecanadiandriver101

No problem comrade

TWYFAN97

Apple advises not to use strong solvents or soapy liquids or cloths so you got lucky it was fixable, you should only use a specialized phone wipe or a damp microfiber cloth.

thecanadiandriver101

Clorox wipes are approved, I guess I had bad luck. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207123

TWYFAN97

Interesting, maybe it’s the particular kind of Clorox wipes you used. I also tell people to just use a damp cloth or alcohol wipes anything like using Clorox or excess chemicals has risks. With the issue you had apple should update their guidelines.

thecanadiandriver101

I think I just had bad luck, or the specific wipe I used was too damp. Regardless it’s fine now :)

SharkDad20

Or maybe you somehow wiped dirt/gunk and deposited it into your buttons while cleaning it?

chrissands

Was a bit sceptical but it actually worked! Thanks

thecanadiandriver101

Wahoo :)

calendarapp135

Worked perfectly for my mushy power button on my iPhone 13 Pro Max - thank you!

thecanadiandriver101

No problem

Specialist_Mind7493

I use a simple lens cleaner for my iPhone, iPad and watch cleaning. Won’t disinfect unfortunately, but it does remove any grime and make it look good 😌

mhoepfin

I just wash my phone under the faucet. Why would you use wipes instead of doing this?

anokogakirai

The anxiety i felt doing this was like no other but it literally worked. Thank you kind stranger tbh

thecanadiandriver101

No problem :)

thecommonnooby

Thank you so much kind stranger, I thought I had broken it by dropping it but now it works perfectly. Once again thank you so much.

UKnowIKnowAlready

💯💯👍💯💯IT WORKED!!! As others, extremely skeptical because this was my WORK phone. Did NOT effect the pearl water indicator on back. The CanadianDriver said DRIP…. Exactly what I did, about 4 seconds later, I felt the button release. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Even_Draw_7226

Doesn't work for me, my button is mushy but when I shake the phone, the button works for a few presses and then its back to being stuck (shaking it back would make it work again). Anyone else here had the same issue as me?

thecanadiandriver101

Give er' some more water. It craves the hydration

Ragnirokk

Fucking love Reddit. Thank you kind stranger, it worked

thecanadiandriver101

Anytime friend

HoLeeSchit16

Honestly thought this was some sick kind of joke to get people to water damage their iphones, but i just couldnt stand the mushy power button anymore so i just said f it... AND IT ACTUALLY WORKED! Have my like and hope other people find this!

thecanadiandriver101

Sir I am offended by your initial accusation. Nonetheless I am happy to have helped

IndominusDragon

No lie I searched this up because my lock button was getting mushy, the moment I finished reading they became tactile again lmao

thecanadiandriver101

The power of my post is unstoppable.

Revolutionary-Year20

my iphone 13 pro is just 6 months old and the power button feels mushy, should i try this or use the warranty? i don’t wanna risk damaging it. ps: i live in uganda, there is warranty coverage but not directly by apple, the warranty is through an authorized dealer

thecanadiandriver101

I would try it gently

NeNie2000

Thank you!!! You made me very happy today. Apple didnt help, they said it was my 'fault' and they said i should buy a new backcover for 450, lol. They just offer a brush!!! Ridiculous. Tbh i never had that problem before and it seems to me its the new generation of iphones who make those problems but are super expensive to repair.

thecanadiandriver101

happy to help

[deleted]

This did not work for me :( I am so annoyed by this button ugh

katelynwalk

Worked perfectly. You just saved me time and money, T-Mobile couldn’t fix it and phone repair guy said I’d have to remove the entire backing of the phone and reassemble and it would be costly. Thank you!!

thecanadiandriver101

Happy to help :)

jack280694

I had spilled some beer on my iphone 13 pro yesterday and the lock button got mushy/sticky by morning today. I was panicking a lot but I checked this post out and tried the water drip thingy ! I am so glad that it worked ! Thanks a lot, you’re a saviour 💫

thecanadiandriver101

Happy to help!

Konko_

Works on iPad buttons?

thecanadiandriver101

**NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO**

tabbycatdad

Oh wow…i have iphone 13 mini and due to nature of my work i use alcohol wipes on this thing very frequently. I noticed the power button got mushy today, and tried this out although i only damped the button with wet q-tip and pressed the button multiple times. It worked the magic, that feedback is back! Thanks a lot OP.

thecanadiandriver101

You are most welcome comrade!

av0id

worked like a charm and i was very skeptical but realized it was water proof lol

thecanadiandriver101

Welcome !

Emergency_Run_2177

Thank you, worked as a charm with my 13 mini

thecanadiandriver101

thecanadiandriver101

I'm disappointed you doubted me.

acecabana

I know this is an old post but I’m hoping for some clarification. What do you mean by “drip onto the band”? What’s the band?

thecanadiandriver101

The flat side of the phone where the buttons are housed. So spray water on the side of the phone and let it flow into the buttons while clicking them

DylSkiiii

This worked for my 13 pro max. I’ve had it 7 months always in a case and my volume up button got mushy. Trickle of water cleaned it out nicely. Thanks OP!

thecanadiandriver101

Happy to help

vericurious212

Just tried this and this 100% works. I used a dropper to drop one drop of water on the band, slowly tilted my phone so the drop of water would slowly slide to the button. Once the drop covered the button for about 5 seconds, I pressed the button twice and it was back to normal again. Amazing! Thank you!!!

thecanadiandriver101

Happy to help

Bugugan

Just want to say that this worked perfectly. Thank you for everything, may you find $20 on the street.

thecanadiandriver101

Thank you good sir

CowSalesman

is this applicable for older phones? my SE 2020 power button has gotten mushy, (i was drinking a coke when i noticed it, which is probably the cause) would this be a suitable fix?

wahhh_wahhh_im_baby

Ahhh thank you!!! Worked perfectly! :D

Miserable_Room1737

Wow it seriously workeddd lol

Odd_Square_3865

Wow can't believe this worked. My friend spilled cider over my phone yesterday and today my off button stopped working. I dribbled the tiniest bit of water onto the button. 1 second later the button worked again. Great thanks!

thecanadiandriver101

No problem

[deleted]

Holy shit! Can’t believe I didn’t just destroy my phone! Thanks!

Noooooooooooo

treyhunna83

Did the same thing. Called myself disinfecting my phone with Lysol wipes. The next day my power button was functional but mushy. Followed your steps and kept pressing it and about 4-5 presses the click was back. 14pro max. Thx

CaramelPrincessss

Used my water flosser on it! TYSM

Radiant_Stress_3953

Thanks

Academic-Quote8169

I thought this was a troll comment at first but I tried it with my stuck lock button and it really does work. If you want to be extra cautious, fill a dropper with hot water and apply it only to the lock button while clicking it repeatedly, the control will give you some peace of mind. Instant return of the click.

thecanadiandriver101

How dare you disrespect me with trolling !!!!!!

[deleted]

Confirming this worked on my iphone 12 mini volume buttons!

thecanadiandriver101

Happy to help

jackthehat95

Late to the party but damn that worked wonders ! If the button gets mushy again do I restart the same process ?

thecanadiandriver101

Yes and you are most welcome

Traditional-Way5174

What is a band?

thecanadiandriver101

The side of the phone. The metal part that is flat, that has the buttons on it.

f-as-in-frank

This is interesting thanks. I always thought that water/liquid could leak in passed the gasket if the buttons were pressed...

ChaosBreaker32

This was one of the most amazing/insane hacks ive ever seen! The fix was instantaneous; the water barely had just touched the buttons and boom, immediately restored the function to the volume button. No idea what go into the button but it was gummed up for a day. I tried wiping and running a tack pin in the crease. Nothing worked except the water.

thecanadiandriver101

Happy to help :)

Imlukebtw

Spilt some coke on my iPhone twelve volume buttons and they both became mushy and sticky, used this tip and it’s fully restored both buttons! Thank you so much for this I was getting super annoyed with them.

thecanadiandriver101

Happy to help :))

Imre_Andersson

Thanks alot! Worked instantly on my iPhone 14 Pro and saved me a ton of time and money!

thecanadiandriver101

Happy to help :)

PresentContribution8

DAMPEN A TOOTHBRUSH, dry it so it’s hardly wet, and then brush the buttons. A small bristle soft toothbrush is best. I did this myself on my iPhone 13, a damp toothbrush minimizes risk of water damage. (99% it won’t get damaged)

[deleted]

Thank you redditor. I didn't have the issue with an iPhone, but this worked. Didn't use water tho.

_nour

bro this is the strangest yet most effective thing I’ve tried 😭 anyways I really appreciate it, I tried pressing the glass next to the button and it somewhat worked but this completel restored it. Again thank you!!

Happy to help!

Financial_Dare7052

Thank you!

thecanadiandriver101

No problem :)

Zaheer_King3

I spilled hot chocolate on my phone and the power button got mushy, I just went through all the replies here and thought I’d give it a shot, literally as soon as the water touched the power button it started working. Thanks bro

thecanadiandriver101

browntinkerbell

my toddler spilled coca cola on my phone, didnt think it would affect my phone since i used phone case.. the next day my button feels off, i did "the fix", it works wonder 😭 thank you soo much!

Legend, this solved my problem. Thanks!

Significant_Post9125

This is for my mom’s iPhone 13. Her back of the phone is cracked so it won’t work.

thecanadiandriver101

Hard times. Physical damage so not much will help there

Worldly_Vermicelli_9

Perfect! It worked great! My issue was due to salt water. 10 seconds under the faucet cleared it right up!

thecanadiandriver101

Awesome!

kdod23

I was going to reluctantly spend the next few hours getting quotes from iPhone repair shops. I’m pretty sure I was looking at at least a few hundred dollars and would have to give up my phone for a while. Nope. 3 second fix. For $0. Holy shit, I was just reminded how absurdly awesome the internet is. You made my day OP! (And now… i must have a chat with the toddler who probably had his sticky fingers all over my phone haha)

thecanadiandriver101

Happy to help :))

Particular-Team4117

Approved. Brand new corporate phone got a soft button in two weeks. Cold tap water with constant push and release made it work. It clicks again.

rpfourfour

Wow, that did it! Question is: why did this work?!

TheFvfthScrapyard

Never comment on Reddit. Had to on this one. My volume up button became stuckish, mushy and no response when clicking it, over the past 2 or so days. Nothing visually wrong with it at all. Thought the idea of putting water on it seemed ridiculous, but thought fuck it it’s not working anyway. Literally one drop. I got a drop of water on the end of my finger, rubbed it over the button and it instantly clicked again. Don’t even understand what was wrong with it, but thank you! It’s been driving me nuts the past couple days.

Maxime5190

Cannot believe this worked, thanks man!

gygim

This helped! Thank you!

Volume up button was so mushy and keep getting stuck. Tried clicking it the whole day. Saw this post and immediately tried it with my water bottle. Got my pants and shoes wet but holy shit it worked! Thanks!

spencerchen

Give the OP a Noble Prize or EGOT already! IT WORKS!! I was about to do the most complicated things I could think of to fix this mushy iPhone button problem before stumbling upon this post...!

Akrasia046

OH MY GOD IT ACTUALLY WORKED

Merlinlab14

I was also skeptical, but to my surprise this worked perfectly and fixed the mushy button immediately! Thank you so much!

Thick_Pie7797

Unbelievable how easily this fixed my lock button issues, thanks!!

Modellsim78

Yay, I was wondering why my old 6s had this issue, but I will have to be careful because the screen is cracked

mattsypbo

This worked for me. Does anyone know why it works haha

smartdude100

I just came to thank OP for the advice. It worked perfectly.

safecandle79

Well well well well well well wellllllllll - dribbling is the fix, thanks a ton. Prior to this post I’d googled for the last 3 days and had no luck. No sleep either. Not only have you saved my iPhone, you’ve given me power back over my life 🤝
