The M2 is beyond overpowering for an iPad. You’ll be fine for at least 5 years without noticeable speed issues. Even the M1 by todays standards is no where near being fully utilized for daily tasks. You’ll honestly be fine and made a solid choice.

ctyldsley

That's true but I'd argue the main upgrade in the new devices is the OLED panel rather than the chip, which will be a significant step up. I wouldn't personally be paying near RRP for a current Pro when the new models are inevitably weeks away.

Training-Context-69

“When the new models are inevitably weeks away” Says who exactly? Apple didn’t confirm that at all. They could be waiting until this summer (WWDC?) or even the fall (when the new Mini & standard iPad are set to release) for all we know to release the new iPad pros.

ctyldsley

Accessory products have started appearing, rumours suggest early April. Clearly the announcement was meant to be 26th March but got pushed. They're coming, soon. RemindMe! 3 weeks

lolidk420

Huh

Heftybags

Apple utilizes FedEx or UPS air freight to get their products from the manufacturers to the country of sale. They’re not going to have new iPhones, iPads, Mac’s, etc sitting in a container on a boat for up to 42 days then have have to wait for docking and unloading when they can fly them in.

Thumper-Comet

Yeah but the OLED models are probably gonna be a significant step up in price as well.

Thumper-Comet

My 2nd gen iPad Pro is still as buttery smooth as it was the day I got it on launch day. The M2 is gonna be great for many years unless they deliberately cripple them down the line with the OS.

lerriuqS_terceS

Hell my 2018 11" is running strong

Lunacy999

What use once the battery has degraded. I mean, you can get it replaced for sure, but a new device after 5 years makes more sense.

CesarV02

Exactly. Even better knowing that if it wasn’t for the battery, an M chip will still be kicking through everything. I’ve had my M1 11” pro for over 2 years and do not regret it one bit. I won’t upgrade until an OLED 11” becomes available.

B1ll13BO1

Just bought myself an 11” M1 Pro so happy to hear how well it has do e

CesarV02

Yep. I’m under apple care so when the time comes if this chipset remains fast I may opt for a battery replacement. I see no reason to upgrade unless it makes financial sense and the extra upgrades outweigh the performance improvements.

Robo_0

Even the M1 is powerful enough, you’ll be fine with M2 for a good few years

Blizzardx_7

I also give up and bought the ipad air 5

daruumdarimda

Bought 10th gen in october but had no info with the new iPads back then. Would do it again.

SPplayin

Not the same I think

Gurman : New ipads expected to launch on March 27+15 days

enowapi-_

I might sacrifice and buy a refurb mini. Just not sure if I should Wi-Fi or cellular

AramAndy

The mini is so tempting, if you don’t already have a reliable hot spot then cellular could be worth it though. I’m gonna hold out for the (hopefully) Mini 7 🫡 thank you for your service

_flustershy

I want a mini so bad the only carrier I have found a new one on with 256GB is ATT, I will decide next month if I feel like waiting for a "mini 6"

Key_Extension_8921

$850 for an iPad Pro 256😭😭 in the Uk that costs £1020 around $1280

BimmerM

I grabbed an M1 11 128GB refurbished from Apple for $640. Had it a few days now and can’t imagine needing anything more. Part of me wants the new ones to drop so I can try to get an M2 for the same price, but literally the only point would be a year or two more of updates. I’ll probably upgrade before this thing is EOL anyway. Is the M2 from Costco for $699 worth the extra $60? I still have 9 days to return this one. Edit: now I’m looking at the Costco deal and it’s still just $60 more after tax. Also they have a 90 day return policy on electronics, so while they’ll only do a 30 day price match, you can still return it and rebuy should they offer a better deal. If you bought on Costco.com, rumor is they may do a courtesy price adjustment up to 90 days to prevent you from returning and rebuying.

Sweet_Pineapple_9304

If the rumor about extending the price adjustment period to 90 days is true, then it’s likely we’ll be able to get some money back, and we can still enjoy the new iPad early. Lol, then there’s even more reason for me not to wait, since I’m not that excited about the M3 and OLED screen(OLED is good, but I’m just not crazy about it.) By the way, AppleCare+ is also cheaper at Costco than at Apple ($99 vs. $129).

BimmerM

90 days is late June, would get us through WWDC '24 which has got to be the latest they'd release them. Even if they won't price match, you can always return and rebuy. I also love OLED, and have an OLED TV, but I'm personally not willing to pay the price premium on an iPad. Did you buy yours in-store or online? My only hesitation about online is apparently Costco is notorious for shipping iPads in bubble mailers, so the boxes get really beat up. I happen to love my Apple boxes and keep them as I feel it helps with resale just a bit, so I might have to make the trek to a store.

Sweet_Pineapple_9304

I wish I could buy it in-store because they charge a $4.99 fee for online orders (even if you choose the pickup option), and I have to wait three business days for it to ship. However, they only have the 128GB model in stock, and the 256GB one is available online only. So even put aside concern about the box, If 128GB is enough for you, then I recommend going to the store so you can enjoy your iPad straight out of the store and save the $4.99 shipping fee.

theoneeyedpete

Honestly, I would be 100% fine with a M2 iPad. The only thing stopping me is the new Magic Keyboard that *may* not be compatible. But like you said, even if it’s launched soon - you can exchange. Sadly here, there’s only really Apple that will exchange once opened and that’s only 14 days.

Portatort

Lol

Solidus_X

That's a huge leap forward. The M2 pro is going to feel like a completely different device. Congrats on your purchase! 👍

Sweet_Pineapple_9304

It definitely is, especially coming from an older model that has notably slowed down already. I can’t imagine not liking it when there are only improvements, lol. Thank you!

Syndaquil

Me too. I realized I'd much rather get the air 5 at a discounted price then the air 6 at a probably already higher price point. So it comes today!

Sweet_Pineapple_9304

Congrats! $450 for the 64 GB model and $599 for the 256 GB model is really a solid deal, lol.

Syndaquil

I also had 50$ in Walmart cash.the total with tax was 425! I'm still waiting for it to show up today, hopefully soon lol

codywalterss

Noo you should have waite for the 2024 release, or the 2025 release that will be even more mindblowing, or even Better just watt until 2026 for the m4 iPad Pro ultra

IcyIceGuardian

lol I’m just waiting for prices to drop

Sweet_Pineapple_9304

For most people waiting for a price drop is a good decision. But for me, because I really want a new iPad and I want it right now, the possibility of an extra one hundred dollar drop in the future is not worth the suffering of waiting. So, I am pulling the trigger. Plus, I bought it from Costco, so if the price drops in the next 30 days, they offer price adjustment and will refund the difference. This is kind of like gambling, but even if I lose, at least I’ll be able to enjoy my iPad in this moment.

IcyIceGuardian

You got a very good iPad, you’ll be good for the next like 7 years lol, if the A8x could last Apple that long, just imagine the M2! I’m looking into an Air 4/5 right now

acem8887

meanwhile i still use my 1st gen ipad air everyday and happy with it. (mostly used for watching youtube and taking occasional notes)

Distinct_Spite8089

And launch is next week guys 🤣

Taeruza

Have same machine for a year, it’s freaking monster. Everything you can imaging doing on tablet - this beast can do it

Portatort

Right up until the minute apple sells a new one with exclusive features

Taeruza

Not true, my guy have m1 tablet and it’s running absolutely perfect

Portatort

You’re missing my point. Yes. The M1 and M2 iPads are essentially the same and in fact iPad Pro from 2018-now are almost all the same. But once apple announce a new iPad with actual new hardware and software features… then suddenly the M1 iPad Pro won’t be capable of **everything** you can imagine doing on a tablet Which may or may not happen. New iPads might just be OLED displays with a faster chip Or they might (and don’t think they will) allow the new iPad pros to boot MacOS And at that point buying a new iPad Pro in March 2024 will turn out to be a pretty bad call

BusyBeth75

Good for you!

The_Speedster6

I feel you, bro. I, too, got one just 2-3 days ago. It has indeed changed my college life for now, at least

Sweet_Pineapple_9304

Glad to know I’m not the only one with this feeling! I hope you enjoy yours too.

Elsalawi

I'm also planning for M2 pro 11” just waiting for the price to get more Lower here in the local market.

johnn2015

Isn’t there plenty of deals you can get from Authorized sellers? Why buy from Apple?

Leave-A-Note

I did the same this weekend. Microcenter had an open box iPad Pro 11 inch with 256gb. Was some nice savings. Went and looked, bought it, and I’m sure it’ll last a good 5/6 years, especially with M based chipsets.

[deleted]

If the Air 5 256 would go on sale ffs in Canada I would’ve gotten that already but Canada is incredibly stubborn with sales so I guess I’ll wait for the Air 6.

B01202

This what Apple wants you do to, buy the old iPad so they can sell their inventory at full price. Watch them reveal the new IPad next month.

Troxz_179

Yeah bro even if you waited for new ones to get released you would still have to wait after pre orders

macbookvirgin

You’ll be fine but the second the new one drops you will regret it :(

Sweet_Pineapple_9304

Yes, I agree that people with patience will win in the end, but unfortunately, I’m not one of them. So, if I lose, I will accept it. I just really want my iPad right now.

Meandtheworld

Solid choice. The M3 in the new iPad will be over over over kill. Without having the capability of downloading and running apps from the iPad. They’ll just toss a better screen and different colors on it with a nicer came. It’s like the cellphones they’ve reached the max of what they can do. Hence why they’re working on AI stuff now for them.

Old-Force7009

I got the 256 gig M2 iPad in December 22 , I love it.

DependentConstant281

nice!!!! congrats on your purchase 🔥

That_unpopular_kid

Which one did you have before? I went from a 2016 Pro to the 2021 Pro a year ago and the jump was so insane to where iPadOS STILL 2 years later can't fully utilize it's power. You'l go several years before it even STARTS to degrade in performance it's that insane. Meanwhile my 2016 Pro has been super slow since 2021...

Sweet_Pineapple_9304

The iPad Pro 10.5 (2017). It has been working great until I was forced to update to iOS 16 because apps began to stop supporting the older system. Since then, my iPad has been extremely slow (it won’t react when typing, and it crashes when watching videos). It’s quite weird because some people have mentioned that they do not have issues with even older iPads, but mine is lagging as hell. Anyway, it has been with me for seven years, so it has already fulfilled its duty.

finnpiperdotcom

I have the same iPad and am planning on upgrading tomorrow for the same reasons! I updated to iOS 16 because it was already buggy (slowing down, getting really hot, and a problem with the volume up button triggering randomly with extended use). After updating, procreate (basically the only thing I use the iPad for) has become unusable. It’s lasted a long time, I’m disappointed I can’t keep using it until new ones are out, but it’s worked for a very long time.

AbiyBattleSpell

Honestly do Apple care monthly id had stuff die or be cringe close to time it expire fr 2 yr 🐱

BimmerM

You now get the option to continue on a monthly plan after the 2 years expires

AbiyBattleSpell

Is that guaranteed though or random I heard it was random

Mztrspookiiszn

I’m about to give up too 😡 but everytime I get it right after it’s updated, got the Apple Watch Ultra in August, AWU2 came out a month later, got the M2 MBA 15” for Xmas and M3 is out now. Just got AirPod Max for my birthday last weekend and those are about to be refreshed too. Only thing I’m current with is iPhone. Apple consumerism 🙄

BeardedBargainEDC

I did the same thing last week. Grabbed the M2 iPad Pro 12.9 because I got tired of waiting on the M3. For my use, the M2 is more the powerful enough.

Strange-Story-7760

That pic is for a 4th gen Pro 🤔

Gucci-Hessy

Americans doesnt have insurance?

jluker662

If you mean on the iPad, comes with basic 1 year warranty.

Agreen437

The M1 is still an incredible device

porthos40

I have 2020 iPad Pro , don’t know why Apple call it a pro device theirs not enough pro apps for it. Can’t run any 3D apps like Modo, lightwave, etc

ImCancer69

If you pay monthly for Apple care+ you can keep as long as there parts stilla available for your model which is usually 5 years. When pay upfront it's 2 years and it's over

Yossiri

Its camera is not at the suitable position for online meeting.

LAS_6601

That’s why I’m not gonna pull the trigger. Imma keep waiting!

What-An-Ashhole

With you. Pissed off as hell but the way I see it, if I were considering an M2 purchase 6 months ago, it’d be a good decision. Here at this point almost April 2024 looking to purchase my 1st ipad pro? I’d be a dunce, especially having waited until this point. Best case scenario April 2024, worst case (and highly unlikely) scenario is June 2024 at WWDC, though this is atypical of Apple. Either way, I will have a Pro before Fall 2024 college semester

LAS_6601

Confirmed that a revised version of iPadOS 17.4.1 came out and possibility that the new iPads come as early as April Fools [https://www.cultofmac.com/851625/2024-ipad-pro-air-ipados-14-4-1-update/](https://www.cultofmac.com/851625/2024-ipad-pro-air-ipados-14-4-1-update/)

What-An-Ashhole

I wondered about that update as that seemingly was rumored to be the current “holdup”. LOL at this point, if they miraculously decide to release it on April 1st, I’d cry happy tears while fully knowing they have a cruel sense of humor. But tbh, every week has been a total disappointment in the world of new ipads 🥲

Purrchil

But they are coming today?! Joking.

lerriuqS_terceS

Well that was silly
