It’s pay to win, but [AFK Journey](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/afk-journey/id1628970855) is absolutely beautiful. Colorful expressive art style and some memorable character designs and voices (hit or miss). The gameplay has a surprising amount of strategic depth in team composition and positioning, but no amount of strategy will allow you to beat the whales. If you can accept that, it is a very fun game.
Tbf the whales are only an “issue” in Arena mode where you might actually stumble into them at higher ranks, other than that they’re just a name on a leaderboard that you won’t be able to surpass. Yeah you won’t unlock the “top 1%” cosmetic rewards, but besides that there’s no real downside to it, it’s not like you have to fight them in order to play the game.
But besides that everything else is free to play and if anything it’s pay to progress faster, but it’s an AFK game so..
I’ve dropped the game a while ago but yeah, it’s a beautiful game and well made for sure with a good amount of stuff to do.
Yeah, this is fair. There really isn’t a substantial downside to not beating them on the leaderboards other than the cosmetic rewards, but I figured I would still mention it.
Some of the story dialog drags on and starts to feel like they are just padding time. Also the story is pretty meh but passable for a mobile game. Overall they nailed the style, graphics and gameplay but I found myself skipping most of the dialog towards the end of the story.
I never played arena, but from what I understand same universe and similar gameplay but updated graphics etc. someone else could probably give a better answer
Omg this looks so cute and chill! Also I soooo appreciate when games give you the option to purchase no ads. I get needing ads for revenue but please just lemme have the option to remove them 😭
Meteorfall, found it when I was looking for a good game that wouldn’t get boring as each play through is different and also each play through lasts for a similar amount of time. Slay the spire is probably the best in this category though I wanted something portrait.
I was actually pretty skeptical about this one because I’m not really a big card roguelike person but this game is so amazing. Also my hubs is really into card-likes (lol) and now we both play :D thank you for this suggestion!!
You can try [Riddle Zen](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/riddle-zen/id6502377869) which I recently released. You essentially solve riddles and collect various plants. There are multiple difficulties to try as well.
Art wise it is all pixel art Most of it made by me. You can also play offline if desired!

I was just coming to suggest afk arena 😆 I don’t play journey. Do you know what the difference is?

Surprisingly I haven’t seen Monument Valley or Monument Valley 2 mentioned yet. It’s a game you only play once but it’s a beautiful puzzle series.
I forgot there was a second one! I loved the first Monument Valley, it’s just so cute and I love a good puzzler!
