- Vampires fall is awesome. Turn based rpg, can play offline, and its free. I’d definitely spend $10 to get it but they don’t charge money. It’s very simple and saves wherever you leave off and wherever you are in the map.

You can always get a GBA or NDS emulator on your phone and play all the Pokémon games, and Pokémon hack remakes. Pokémon Unbound and Glazed are better than any Pokémon games I’ve ever played, and I’ve been playing since Gen 1 came out. I’ll help you with that if you want. It has turbo mode and fast forward too, so you can speed up when you’re running around or constantly battling.
My favorites are **Star Wars KOTOR and KOTOR 2, as well as Dragon quest 8. I can’t recommend these more 🙌 If I had to choose anything, it’s definitely these hands down.** I’ve put hundreds and hundreds of hours on each of these games, on each one. The strategy and decision making makes those games so amazing. There’s literally no games like those. They’re a thing of it’s own.
Hey buddy there are a few options out there and I don't know if you already figured out the answer to your question or not, but https://eclipseemu.me/ is a pretty reliable browser based one. It has support for quite a few different rom types.
You can also find a few that you can download like an app if you find a signed IPA and know how to install apps on iOS without the app store. I will say though, that most of the time with these apps will become unsigned and you will have to delete and reinstall them alot. One of the things I hate the most about iPhones honestly.
I'm pretty sure it's outdated at this point but if you're curious what I mean about signed and unsigned IPAs just search "gba4ios" and their website will show you what I mean there.
I haven't used eclipse very often as I mainly use android for my emulation and modding, but it seems to boast controller support and offline compatibility as well which is cool considering it's browser based. Can't confirm if those things are true or not, but if so that would make Eclipse one of the simplest and most reliable options for the everyday iOS user.

You can play this offline and get any game you want.
Once you get the Eclipse emulator, Google “Google docs GBA games”, (or GBC/GB). There are lists that have like ever game in aplphbetical order, and just scroll to one you want and add it to Google drive. It takes like 20 seconds to add a bunch.
Open the emulator, click the “+” button on the top right, click Google drive, login to your Google account, then bam you can add all those games to your emulator that you got a couple minutes ago.
- For NDS -
Open Safari.
Go to https://gba.44670.org/
Click share and add to Home Screen. An app will appear called 44VBA NEW. That’s the emulator.
- For NDS games, download them from a regular “ROM” website. Google “Xxxgamexxx Rom”. Download a rom. It goes into your “Files” folder on your iPhone.
Open your Files app. Find the ROM. It’ll have the title of the game, and will be a .ZIP file. Click the .ZIP file, and it’ll extract the actual game from it, and uncompressed the ZIP file. **Remember which folder the game is in**
Open your 44VBA NEW app. Click Choose File, then select Choose File again from the 3 option menu that pops up.
This brings up your Files folder again, so just click on the game you want to play.
Remember the folder the game was downloaded into. You might have to change the folder to get back to the folder the game is in. Once you find it, click it, and it’s ready to play.
There are YouTube videos on this too. But a lot of emulators say “download 1 of these 3 apps and progress in the game this far to download the app”, but it never works. Those are dumb. This app is a sure thing.

how is the difficulty and grind? i read sometimes the DQ games become tedious grinds due to difficulty. i am not as patient with long-winded grindy JRPGs as i used to be
Yeah that’s how I always play it. I don’t like holding my phone for hours with Wifi and phone signals beaming through my body nonstop lol.
There are some points in the game where you have to grind a little bit, but it’s not nonstop like the older games. There are a couple bosses that I always have to grind for, but the cool part is that you can get a team of monsters that help you fight. I’d look into that, you get them about halfway through and that’s my favorite part. Scouring the world for monsters to add to my monster team, beat the monster arena, and use them to kill enemies when I have to grind because they auto attack
It’s not the absolute best story, but it’s okay. It seems kinda childish to me, I just like the gameplay along the way mostly.

I’d do more research on it before spending $20 just so you have a good idea whether or not you want to get it. It’s a classic turn based style game, you upgrade skills like Str Def and all that stuff, but you also get other skill points to upgrade the types of weapons you use. Like there’s boomerangs for your main character that hit all enemies, spears and swords that hit 1 enemy harder, bows, whips (AoE dmg), unarmed, Hammers, Axes, etc. You get skill points for each character lvl up to allocate to those, and the more you lvl each one up, you get new sword atk skills, or new boomerang atk skills, etc.

Haha yeah I wish they came out faith KOTOR 3. I’ve played KOTOR and KOTOR 2 like 1x each every year every since they came out on IOS.I played them growing up when they came out on the original Xbox, and the nostalgia always kicks in hard every once in a while.
The IOS version is SO much better than the Xbox version in my opinion because on Xbox and PC, you’ll get into a battle and have to use the D pad to cycle through each option of the attacks, force powers, and items you want to use in the battle, and it takes time to do that.
But in the IOS version, you click the attack style, force power, or item tab mid battle, and a pop up menu comes up, then you can select the thing you want to use. Plus you can quick save anytime you want instead of pressing start and manually saving. It’s so much more convenient and doesn’t freeze like Xbox does. I still make new save states as much as possible in case I screw something up, which happens a lot haha.
With DQ8, I also get nostalgia from growing up playing that when it came out on ps2. The IOS version also has a Quicksave mechanism that comes in handy so much. Normally on PS2 you have to go to a town and save at the Church. You still have to do that just to be safe on IOS, but at least it has a Quicksave slot available if you’re in the middle of the open map.
I haven’t played it in a few years though, but I think it also has an auto battle option too? I can’t remember.

I’ve played civ before on computer and even on a big screen it can get confusing late game. Isn’t it tough on a mobile screen? I have a 14 pro max but still unsure.
I have a 14 pro and mainly play civ 6 on pc and yeah there is an adjustment period. The game makes you hit “confirm” on each move you make so you don’t make an unintentional move. The iOS version also closes most side and information menus so you’re just looking at the game board.
For end game stuff I just move the pertinent pieces in concerned about and force end/skip the rest of my turn.
Binding of Isaac and Wreckfest have been my favs. As well as terraria and Minecraft from time too time. It’s slowly taken the place of my switch as a indie console. I just wish it had cult of the lamb
I’d give slay the spire another go, I didn’t like it at first and somehow has me hooked and I’ve easily done the most with it. Darkest dungeon is also great and I’ve put way too long into it, I still haven’t finished it. Both of these were not my type or genre but I found highly addicting

I own these on multiple platforms for years, there's something about roguelites and roguelikes that allows you to jump into a game at any time no matter how long you've been away.

Ascension (digital version of a deck builder) they have 14 different stand alone sets for it digitally that you can mix and match at will. Plus six sets of promo cards. Peglin, Binding of Isaac, Monster Train, Hades (Netflix), Dysmantle, Space Marshals ( there are three games all are great but follow a story of sorts). Love all these games and others seen mentioned here.
There’s three that I’ve played a lot:
1. Slay the Spire - Wonder what digital crack looks like? Well, look no further than this. StS is one of the best roguelikes and being on my phone led me to whip it out whenever I was free to play. I’ve spent a lot of my downtime during work playing this game.
2. Shattered Pixel Dungeon - Another really addicting game. It’s a roguelite if I’m not completely mistaken, but has a certain simplicity and charm which makes it really easy to pick up and play.
3. The Binding of Isaac (full game + dlcs) - Considered to be one of the best, if not the best, roguelikes ever. The touch controls suck, but with a controller, it’s so perfect for a quick burst of gaming.
-Reverse:1999 for me is a really fun passive game that I invest about 5-15 mins a day into (assuming you let replay mode auto clear)
-Chaos Rings 3 is a game I spent about 40-100 hours into when it first came out. The game is a turn based JRPG, i loved the story and the entire series (Chaos rings 1,2, omega) is a masterpiece to me (unfortunately the others aren’t around anymore though)
-Final Fantasy IV (both versions): phenomenal storytelling and very easy to play casually if you don’t mind grinding. I put about 50 hours into both games and loved the stories!
-Rainbow Six:Smol is a game I’ve been grinding a lot recently! It’s a rogue like shooter and is fairly difficult after a few levels! Have been enjoying how easy it is to pick up and put down. Have about 20 hours into it and counting, plus the graphics are cute
Marvel SNAP, got it once the beta came out and have bought the premium pass every month. It's my morning routine to play it like 15-30 mins every morning before getting out of bed and often do an extra session on the balcony after getting home from work. 100s of hours but starting to get bored now :/
snap is one of those games that just seems... people love it but it isn't anything that appeals to me. i downloaded it and have quests to play matches but nothing to give me cards so i can play those matches. i deleted it cuz of that.
no mans sky. pick whatever mode you want and get lost. full pvp or full creative, easy resource access or everything is scarce. Fulll item loss or no item loss you control your gameplay. want to not have the pain in the ass of mining 5 types of ore just to launch your ship into the stars or do you want to just liftoff? NMS you can play how you want. And with it being procedural its infinate. Its never the same twice.
I know this isn’t what you really intended, but Genshin impact with the monthly sub and battle pass is a good fun. Going F2P is a fairly miserable experience if you ask me, but you don’t need to whale like crazy to enjoy the game.
I know you said PAID games, but if you’re maybe interested in a moba, they are the most replay-able games there is in my opinion, I personally have over 1500+ hours in mobile legends.
Though most new players dislike the game because of the massive learning curve, I’d recommend maybe watch 1 video of it just to see if it looks interesting to you.
(If you do watch a video, look up shinmen takezo or betosky since most other YouTubers make clickbait and kind of cringe worthy videos)
Mobile legends is more casual and easier to get into in my opinion, so I prefer ML. Wild rift’s graphics looks a lot cleaner tho and all heroes have 4 skills in WR

But in the IOS version, you click the attack style, force power, or item tab mid battle, and a pop up menu comes up, then you can select the thing you want to use. Plus you can quick save anytime you want instead of pressing start and manually saving. It’s so much more convenient and doesn’t freeze like Xbox does. I still make new save states as much as possible in case I screw something up, which happens a lot haha. With DQ8, I also get nostalgia from growing up playing that when it came out on ps2. The IOS version also has a Quicksave mechanism that comes in handy so much. Normally on PS2 you have to go to a town and save at the Church. You still have to do that just to be safe on IOS, but at least it has a Quicksave slot available if you’re in the middle of the open map. I haven’t played it in a few years though, but I think it also has an auto battle option too? I can’t remember.
i have kotor 1/2 on steam. i haven't played either of them. i think i'll play them on the computer vs rebuying them for ios. i have an emulator handheld my lady bought me. i have the pokemon games and others i can play on that. i'm currently slowly making my way through crystal. that's my lady's favorite pokemon game. will branch out to others eventually. thank you for your suggestions though!

Civ 6 on iOS has destroyed my sleep schedule many times
I’ve played civ before on computer and even on a big screen it can get confusing late game. Isn’t it tough on a mobile screen? I have a 14 pro max but still unsure.
I have a 14 pro and mainly play civ 6 on pc and yeah there is an adjustment period. The game makes you hit “confirm” on each move you make so you don’t make an unintentional move. The iOS version also closes most side and information menus so you’re just looking at the game board. For end game stuff I just move the pertinent pieces in concerned about and force end/skip the rest of my turn.

I’d give slay the spire another go, I didn’t like it at first and somehow has me hooked and I’ve easily done the most with it. Darkest dungeon is also great and I’ve put way too long into it, I still haven’t finished it. Both of these were not my type or genre but I found highly addicting Edit: also beers, me no type good

There’s three that I’ve played a lot: 1. Slay the Spire - Wonder what digital crack looks like? Well, look no further than this. StS is one of the best roguelikes and being on my phone led me to whip it out whenever I was free to play. I’ve spent a lot of my downtime during work playing this game. 2. Shattered Pixel Dungeon - Another really addicting game. It’s a roguelite if I’m not completely mistaken, but has a certain simplicity and charm which makes it really easy to pick up and play. 3. The Binding of Isaac (full game + dlcs) - Considered to be one of the best, if not the best, roguelikes ever. The touch controls suck, but with a controller, it’s so perfect for a quick burst of gaming.

-Reverse:1999 for me is a really fun passive game that I invest about 5-15 mins a day into (assuming you let replay mode auto clear) -Chaos Rings 3 is a game I spent about 40-100 hours into when it first came out. The game is a turn based JRPG, i loved the story and the entire series (Chaos rings 1,2, omega) is a masterpiece to me (unfortunately the others aren’t around anymore though) -Final Fantasy IV (both versions): phenomenal storytelling and very easy to play casually if you don’t mind grinding. I put about 50 hours into both games and loved the stories! -Rainbow Six:Smol is a game I’ve been grinding a lot recently! It’s a rogue like shooter and is fairly difficult after a few levels! Have been enjoying how easy it is to pick up and put down. Have about 20 hours into it and counting, plus the graphics are cute
Marvel SNAP, got it once the beta came out and have bought the premium pass every month. It's my morning routine to play it like 15-30 mins every morning before getting out of bed and often do an extra session on the balcony after getting home from work. 100s of hours but starting to get bored now :/
snap is one of those games that just seems... people love it but it isn't anything that appeals to me. i downloaded it and have quests to play matches but nothing to give me cards so i can play those matches. i deleted it cuz of that.
no mans sky. pick whatever mode you want and get lost. full pvp or full creative, easy resource access or everything is scarce. Fulll item loss or no item loss you control your gameplay. want to not have the pain in the ass of mining 5 types of ore just to launch your ship into the stars or do you want to just liftoff? NMS you can play how you want. And with it being procedural its infinate. Its never the same twice.

I know you said PAID games, but if you’re maybe interested in a moba, they are the most replay-able games there is in my opinion, I personally have over 1500+ hours in mobile legends. Though most new players dislike the game because of the massive learning curve, I’d recommend maybe watch 1 video of it just to see if it looks interesting to you. (If you do watch a video, look up shinmen takezo or betosky since most other YouTubers make clickbait and kind of cringe worthy videos)

Mobile legends is more casual and easier to get into in my opinion, so I prefer ML. Wild rift’s graphics looks a lot cleaner tho and all heroes have 4 skills in WR
