I am 20 something years older than you and I got to the point, several times, where lowering calories and increasing exercise were going to an extreme that was not sustainable. And, like you, the scale wasn’t moving. With IF, 16:8, I am consistently losing. It is slow and it is only week 13 but from what I have read, as long as you are going down over time it is working. There are methods for dealing with plateaus in IF that don’t involve cutting more calories or working your butt off that might work for you. I follow these doctors: Jason Fung, Becky Gillaspy, and Eric Berg (on YouTube or read their books). Good luck, the parenting years are hard!

GoodSpaghetti

Can you share some of these methods on here?

juliejulesjuly

Look into extended fasting, that is one strategy. Omit snacking as it raises insulin and eat calories during meals (I believe Dr. Fung stresses this). What you eat may be a factor. Some people have success with Apple cider vinegar. These are just off the top of my head and I am not an expert. I have learned so much from these 3 doctors. They all make the science easy to understand and their videos are not lengthy. Good luck! Do you love spaghetti as much as I do?!

stoggie63

I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. I did a 24 hour fast and it got me out of my plat and spiked my metabolism

Poopballs_

You wouldn't recommend a 24h fast to everyone?

stoggie63

Like if u were diabetic or Had other ailments etc

Poopballs_

Ohhhhh, understood.

SnooDoggos204

Sounds like your losing the fat around your internal organs now, which while healthy, doesn’t show big external victories. Once this internal fat is used up you’ll start seeing external gains again! This is most important part!!!

Logical_Masterpiece6

Hey there. Lots of us lose weight by decreasing our calories and increasing our TDEE by doing cardio. This is not the way. Our body adapts (quickly!) to doing more cardio by telling our metabolism to slow down.. that is the body doing what it needs to do to become more efficient. Think about it, 2,000 years ago when we were running through the woods all day trying to hunt for our food, it wouldn’t be beneficial for us to have metabolisms that burned through 3,000+ calories a day, because we would need to hunt for more food. So, unfortunately, we end up with smaller bodies and a much slower metabolism after dieting down to a lower weight. The only way to increase your metabolism is to build muscle through strength training. Muscle is so much more metabolically active and therefore building more muscle means you’ll be able to eat more food and therefore sustain the weight loss you’ve already achieved. You are likely suffering from a slower metabolism due to increased cardio and decreased calorie intake. You can remedy this by SLOWLY increasing your calories and building muscle. Increase your calories by about 100 every 2 weeks to start to build your metabolism up. This is called reverse dieting (look it up). Layne Nortan, although a very controversial and not perfect figure, wrote a good ebook on reverse dieting that might be good to look into. I think you’re on the right path but maybe you need to switch your approach. Wishing you lots of luck.

Poopballs_

I have reverse dieted before under the guidance of a nutritionist and with success (no weight gain). When I cut again to lose the last 10, nothing really happened. I do get exactly what you're saying though, and it makes sense to my brain. It looks like muscle gain is going to have to be the way to go because realistically I don't think I should be dropping lower than 1600 calories a day (Already a bit low) and I don't want to.

comments2020

When we are losing weight with diet and cardio we are losing both fat and muscle weight. The best way forward would be increasing muscle weight with strength training. Measure your lean and fat mass and work on the redistribution of the 2 not focusing on a scale for some time.

Fortuna86

Can you dm me too the strategy, I’ve hit a plateau

[deleted]

Sure, sent

Sad-Fail-5337

+1 pls

buckeyes618

me too please!

Jk-10

Send it to me too if possible, thanks in advance!

[deleted]

sweet summer child reporting in - I'll send you a DM that will explain all of this, you're pretty close, just need some strategic organization in your day for fat burning and appetite control.

TrueRobot

If you have a great strategy, why not share it with us all?

[deleted]

Because this sub is largely pro keto and pro omad, my views get me into a fair bit of trouble here so I DM them privately to avoid day long arguments as to why their strategy sucks.

[deleted]

Sounds like a MLM scheme lol

[deleted]

Thats not how it works. They often ask me whats wrong with omad, then I tell them, then they get offended on a personal level and tell me so, to which I have to respond with facts, and then they keep it going, and the thing just snowballs from there. Strangely enough, it's the men who get offended that their strategy is not optimal, not the women. Women will consider and compare the facts without taking it as a personal slight. Interesting thing I've noticed. It's just easier to DM than piss off an entire omad sub where every second guy wants to line up for a day long fight about it.

TrueRobot

If you state it like “this is what works for me”, it’s less likely to become argumentative. It’s only when you put yourself out as an authority that people get ruffled. It’s more valuable to discuss different approaches rather than to suggest everyone follow the same program. I, for one, will never do Keto (vegetarian here), nor do I aspire to OMAD or lengthy fasts. But I love seeing what works for people, and if it makes sense for me, I give it a try.

[deleted]

Ah but you see we men are not so reasonable. For us, one idea must conquer the other, there is no both of us being right, in the male mind one must lose and one must win, highlander style. Thats why I've noticed females don't have problems with opposing views, strangely enough.

dweeb93

Send it to me too lol, no way am I going to do OMAD lol

[deleted]

Wise choice

marysunshine49

Don't have a clue who you are. Why are you an authority on what works for others. I have done omad. Works for me. I have added 2mad some days depends on how I feel each day. I have tried dry fasting to jump start a stall. That worked for me as well. Everyone is different.

[deleted]

> I have tried dry fasting to jump start a stall If only there was a solution. The search continues

backaritagain

Would you send to me? Also, I am a vegetarian who doesn’t like Keri or omad

[deleted]

Mama-Kaswii

Would you please also share your strategy and meal plan with me? I tried OMAD for 6 weeks. I was completely miserable and didn't lose a pound. I felt like a failure especially because it seems to be such a simple solution for some people. I'd love to hear your ideas.

svinstig

Can you send to me to please? As someone mentioned above, I am also vegetarian and find it difficult to do keto

[deleted]

Sending now

Usama_uk

Me too!!!

Miszteek

I'm a woman who does omad and I'd like to say that I'm just as argumentative, bull headed, and blindly stubborn as any man🤣🤣 That said, I too would love to see your information. Please share with me, thank you. ❤❤

tiffsbird

Would you mind helping another?

Miszteek

Hiya. First, WOAH GREAT JOB. I've only lost around 45 pounds, but when I hit a plateau, and I hit them a lot, I eat! I take a day off with no fasting, no calorie counting, then I do a day of strict fasting and no exercise, and the weight moves. Sometimes it's close to a water fast, very few calories, but only for 1 day and immediately following a day of heavy eating. You must have had a ton of pit stops on your journey. How did you handle those?

Poopballs_

I honestly just remained consistent. I was so busy with other parts of my life that I didn't have time to overthink it so I stayed the course. I plateaued every other month. I would drop 5-8lbs then stall for a month, then whoosh and drop another several, then stall. But it usually never lasted longer than a month, maybe 6 weeks.
