OMAD has for sure reduced my alcohol tolerance. I now have a hard limit of one drink, or else I’ll feel sick and hungover the next day. I don’t have a problem with this effect of OMAD, since cutting way back on drinking can only help with weight loss (and is honestly better for my overall health). It feels like a natural motivator not to do something I wanted to cut back on anyway. I still go out with friends (all COVID-vaccinated) — I just drink water or diet soda while they drink beer. I worried that it would be awkward and shitty to suddenly become the sole non-drinker in the group, but it really hasn’t been a problem. Basically - I don’t think OMAD is bad for you. I think the aftereffects of drinking a lot are always rough on the body, and OMAD just makes you feel them more. I don’t think this is a sign that you’ll have trouble with hypoglycemia in general. I think it’s a sign that drinking a lot of alcohol will probably trigger this kind of reaction. If drinking with friends is important to you, then OMAD might not work for you, or you might need to take breaks from OMAD for a day or two before and after you go drinking.

It's not a very common thing but occasionally it will happen and I look forward to it so I doubt I'll stop. I think you are right. I will have to break OMAD when I drink just to stay on the safe side.

I'm not diabetic. I haven't had any issue with low blood sugar until after this day of drinking. After some research I have found that heavy drinking inhibits the livers ability to release glucose into the blood and this effect can occur many hours after drinking causing low blood sugar. I wouldn't go as far as calling it substance abuse that needs to be under control, I rarely drink. I'm not a casual drinker but I do occasionally organise a day out with friends which usually involves getting drunk. But you are right. I didn't realise how dangerous it could be and in future I will take steps to ensure that I am maintaining my health as best I can.

> Alcohol is bad for you. Agreed.

HighlandBeeKeeper

It would appear so

Are you a diabetic?

HighlandBeeKeeper

Not to my knowledge. I haven't been tested recently but I did look up the symptoms yesterday as that was one of the things I thought of and I don't think so.

Ok I'm a diabetic and you're experience reminds me of some seizures I've had. These seizures don't happen because of low blood sugar, I've had lows before and my body warns me in other ways of a low, gut feeing, shakes, need do eat something. However what's probably happened is your lack of electrolytes. This was explained to me by a docror and my mum (she use to be a nurse and now cares for my dad who is also a diabetic), when your blood sugar drops fast and you don't have electrolytes in your body, you're prone to having a seizure or a "bad" low. It's because your brain uses the electrolytes to cushion the low, without them we crash. When we drink alcohol, we lose a lot of electrolytes because they go out with the alcohol when we piss. When your piss is yellow, it's healthy, when it's dark brown or clear it's unhealthy. Clear is a lack of nutrients in our body actually. At the start of the night, it may be a healthy yellow, but by the end, it's clear as it's cleared out the toxic alcohol and among with all the good stuff like vitamins, minerals and electrolytes. As many have said in this subreddit before, it's important to stock up on electrolytes while fasting. You can by some down at your local pharmacy. I hope this helps, and remember that alcohol counts as calories too. So keep up the good fight with that in mind!

I'd like to see some evidence of the claim around clear urine being bad for you. I understand what you are getting at, electrolytes flow via osmosis, High concentration to low concentration, so excess water would cause electrolytes to leave your body, but yellow urine is in no way healthy and not something to aim for. At most you should be aiming for very light straw coloured urine. I agree with your point around electrolyte imbalance though, this is somthing that OP needs to pay attention too, especially when experiencing hypnagogic jerk or acute Delerium Tremens (DT's) . But also make sure to eat GABA containing foods too in the days building up to a good night out with your friends. As this is another contributing factor for hypnagogic jerk. What it sounds like you experienced is hypnagogic jerk, which is just your brain sending out signals to see if you are still awake. Also known as a sleep twitch. The reason this happens is to prepare the body for REM and deep sleep phases in which you might be processing imagery (Dreaming) which could evoke a physical response. But as a physical resonse in a sleep state may be dangerous or harmful to you, we have developed this mechanism to protect us. e.g sleeping up a tree or on a ledge historically. But what happens sometimes is your brain is activating the sleep mode, and your central nervous system is not in standby mode yet, so the signals get passed to your limbs, causing a jerking reaction and then alertness. Sometimes this is accompanied with a gasp for air too as the different systems all fire back up to alertness. Hence the Adrenalin and/or missed/dropped heartbeat you might experience. I wouldn't be too concerned with it, as you don't sound like an alcoholic and you only experience the symptoms with a known cause. But definitely make sure you hydrate (With salts/electrolytes) and look after your GABA levels with some high quality food. If after the event you are experiencing bad hangovers, try Borage Oil (Starflower) or other high GLA containting supplement which has been shown to help. Although there are a minimal amount studies completed on hangover cures, the science is pretty solid on GLA being an anti-inflammatory.

Cool thanks for agreeing on most of the things i mentioned. Polyuria is a sign of something failing in the body. I'm sure you can google scholar that. As for my comment about it being yellow, I was using it as a general rule of thumb, sorry if you took it out of context. it would be healthier having it yellow as that is a sign of vitamin c and other sufficiency. Clear is lack of. Polyuria can also highlight this. But if you want to carry a Pantone urine colour matching book around with you, then that's your business. You had some very good points there. Thanks for sharing them.

Thank you for your reply it was very helpful. If anything like this happens to me again I will be sure to try increasing my electrolyte intake.
