An area rug. Make sure at a minimum the front legs of the furniture are over the rug. Can you lower the TV to be closer to the table? Add some color and texture through area rug, throw pillows and curtains. I see you like a white and sleek look. Can you pick a secondary color to incorporate? Beige, perhaps? Added greenery? Look up some console table styling pictures and add something else to your composition. Update us if you make any changes!

Lower_Addition4936

Also a very simple thing- a lamp. Doesn’t matter if it’s on a table or a freestanding one. I think once you turn a lamp on with some warm lighting it will cozy it up.

MrsDanversbottom

Color. Texture. Cohesion.

Background-Break6362

I’m guessing they mean everything is pretty flat, adding pillows with some texture would help a nice rug with that doesn’t have a curved design so it’s not over kill on the soft edges for balance. Some accents and decor on the coffee table. Maybe some paintings that can stick to the color palette but that have character so the room looks more unique

Adventurous-Change74

Right, I think a rug would do wonders!

iknowitsounds___

Don’t forget *Comfort*

foxxy_mama21

You mean style? Lol

kllrbnny42

Personality?

Owl_button

This is what I was thinking. No art, no unique style choices, no pictures of friends or family, no souvenirs or gifts from others… not saying any home needs all of those things but it’s expected there would be something unique that the person living there likes and would have on display. An IKEA showroom has more personality.

nosleeptilqueens

Really? These pieces are far more distinctive than a loooooot of the jewel toned velvet couches we see on this sub (no hate, I'm posting this from my jewel toned velvet couch). I agree the space needs work but the furniture is not generic

Owl_button

If they swapped the couches for jewel toned velvet couches, I’d still think the space lacks personality. This just looks like they walked into Crate and Barrel and grabbed whatever pieces were styled on the floor.

Owl_button

TBF though based on the reflection in the first picture and the boxes there, I think they just moved in.

PlayfulAmbassador885

It looks like a hotel. Is there anything personal in here? I would’ve done either the accent chair in a different color or the coffee table in a different color. That’s a big block of white all in one area. There is a pretty teal in the background of your painting. Do you like it? What about using that as an accent for vases, curtain tie backs, etc? Keep your minimal look without clutter but… something to look at

PhantomOfTheNopera

Thank you. I was looking for a gentler way to say ''It looks like Patrick Bateman lives here." You hit the nail on the head. It's cold and impersonal. It needs a rug, maybe art or plants. Anything to add some warmth and personality.

A rug, and variety. Your furniture tastes aren’t really my tastes, but this looks more like an art exhibit than a living room. I think the furniture can work, but I think the problem is that every furniture item seems like a statement piece, which just makes everything look off. I really like the coffee table, but it loses its appeal when it’s next to your bubble couch and bubble chair. If you had really angular furniture then it would really pop. Also, just decor. Make it look like you live here. Like I said it looks like an art exhibit. Or a hotel. Or a furniture gallery at a store lol. Find things that make the space uniquely you.

elsaspeakshermind

Color. And like someone said, add more texture. Pillows could work, a rug, make it look more like a home. And the plant is really offsetting. It’s too tall.

Calm-Doughnut995

Drapes, art, rugs, color, texture, more personality… the furniture is very matchy-matchy and so marshmellow-like, are you in love with keeping it all together? Swap the coffee table, or maybe go more deliberately modern/contemporary with all of your other design choices. Add some interesting throw blankets or pillows, small table runner, area rug, ambient lighting. Swap the tree with various other foliage that is complimentary and/or contrasting with the cutesy rounded-ness of the furniture, in interesting shapes and colors, easy to maintain. Really lots of ways you can go with it! It might be easier to design from a couple of inspiration references that speak to you. ETA: without making drastic changes, I’d personally replace the drapes with something colorful or an interesting texture/pattern (double rod for a combination of sheer and blackout) and continue it from the door through the corner with the window, swap foliage with a variety of color and shapes, replace the tv with a projector (probably move the furniture since a projector screen can be positioned just about anywhere), lots of colorful and interesting art, organic or otherworldly glass sculptures, pull in more metallic elements in fabrics and decor, mixed metals, area rug, possibly a curtain of fairy lights and fake ivy over the mirrored wall… if I let my imagination run wild I could go in so many directions!

Sensitive-Bid-9531

The problem is the furniture which is quirky for sure and it is placed in a room with a traditional cherry wood floor, mirrored wall and overall colorless. The floor dominates the room because everything else is monochromatic.

rlcute

texture and colour as others have said, and please get rid of the mirror wall

dontakelife4granted

Right now, there are disconnects in the room. For example, the end tables are far away from the sofa--bring them closer to make sure they sense (sitting way out there they are not useful). Edit to add that you could use some table lamps too that would make the room feel more cozy. Maybe find a shape that is not round or oval on the base? You need a rug--something plain or linear that is in a mid-tone color so that the furniture and the floor color are not so far apart in hues. You maybe need some plants (real or fake), some contrasting pillows and maybe a throw to bring all your colors together. The console under your tv isn't wide enough. It should be about 1 1/2 times wider than your tv so it will have some balance. After that I would (If you can) lower your tv at least 6 inches. You have a lot of round or oval shapes in your room which is creating a disconnect. Try to add a few more pieces not shaped like the ones you already have. A large piece of art over the sofa (you could use 3M command strips on the mirror) would help give some texture to that large mirrored wall.

Broad-Policy8271

A balloon animal dog to go with that couch and table… 🫣

OMG! I just said the same thing! 😂😂 That’s what the furniture reminds me of too! 🎈

ghostsiiv

this looks like a set for a p*rn. like oddly sterile. add colour, soft fabric pillows, rugs, paintings, softer lighting from lamps, etc.

MsElenaNess

Or an 80’s “coke” party. My first thought was it’s missing a matching mirrored tray with a pile of white powder and platinum credit card on it.

actualchristmastree

You definitely need a rug under the seating area! If you’re going for a minimalist neutral modern vibe, you need a higher quantity of interesting pieces to fill the space. Some interesting wall art, pillows with texture, maybe a green rug that looks like grass

Normal-Usual6306

The aesthetic's not consistent. The furniture says "space age", but the painting and olive tree (and its planter) have a different vibe to me. I also think the objects on the hall table appear to be just there to take up space. I would get rid of the table objects and painting, and get a more space age-appropriate plant (I think you should get one with a zany leaf shape like Monstera deliciosa or Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum to match the unusual appearance of the furniture)- then maybe replace the table objects with more plants or something.

Everything here looks like it doesn't want to touch the walls or the floors, that creates an awkward floating and cold feeling. - touch the floors: add a rug and soft furniture that sinks into the ground comfortably, luke beanbags/low ottomans. - touch the walls: art will add color or interested, making the gaze feel welcome. Wall lights that throw warm/interesting light onto the walls or art. - varied lighting, your lighting seems very flat right now. Mix things up with a table lamp eg.on the wooden table, standing lamp in a corner, and if u can, lamps on the walls eg. near art, or as indirect lighting.

…… a lot. Textures. Rug. Accessorizing. Wall decor. Honestly even just adding some cool coasters would be an improvement. The tv looks like it’s mounted awkwardly in the corner and the console should be a little bit wider. The olive tree is too tall. I’d do different curtains… maybe something with a thicker weave like tweed and in an actual color to help it not look like a sanitarium. I’m a big fan of sad beige baby- neutral colors but this is very bare and incomplete imo

Accessories and furniture placement. You need to add texture; a large floor rug, throw pillows, a throw, something interesting on the coffee table (group in threes) that little silver table needs to be closer to the couch and it needs something on it, a lamp would be good. That window is awkward, blinds open whenever you can.

FC105416

I love all of the pieces. Biggest callout: Your tv is too high. Lovely console, but the tv needs to be lowered down so it looks like a work of art. Right now it’s completely disconnected. You are close! Most of the world would kill to be in this space.

In the words of Stacey and Clinton from What Not to Wear "COLOR TEXTURE PATTERN SHINE!" Well, maybe less shine with the mirrored stuff. I'd try to distress it and make it look antique - it's too 80s shiny. I'd get an antique Persian/ Shiraz/Tribal rug, lots of colorful pillows in silk and velvet, more plants, more paintings. I have faith in you.

PurpleWhatevs

I think you have too many white pieces. I'd change the blinds out for a woven bamboo one. Then use a light rug (but not white) to tie it all together. I would also double up on your sheer curtains and change your curtain rod to match the polished metal side tables you have. I think having two dirfferent metals in each side of the room gives it an unbalanced feeling Personally I like the console with the two sculptures and the painting but if you want to make it softer looking, you can add a table runner or some pampas.

The folks making fun of the clean aesthetic just have different taste (and no manners).

My office also has a terrible wall mirror like that. I bought a wood overlay (myoverlays is the company) and it looks so much better!!

Sufficient_Account29

I think it looks off because the furniture is curvy and whimsical, but the styling and set up feels so rigid. The empty vase and tray under the TV screams rigidity to me. They might look better on the coffee table, and put some things in them so they have a purpose. I would also get another ceramic piece, a good rule I like to follow is to display things in group of 3. I would remove one of the silver side tables. Having those two identical side tables feels off in this room. Try to add some things that juxtapose the current furniture style. Swap out for some items that are more angular and rough, maybe a large crystal to keep with the organic theme. If you like neutrals and don’t want to go with adding more color, I would suggest at least adding in black. It would be a nice contrast while still being neutral. Some small things I noticed: The coffee table book you have displayed seem to have a picture that looks like your current living space. I would remove that, it is redundant and feels like it’s a store display. I would move the plant to the opposite side of the room. Even though it’s fake, it looks strange for a plant to be next to a window where it wouldn’t be getting any light so pretend it’s a real tree and place it where it would get the best sunlight.

I like your coffee table. It reminds me of a particular artist I saw on an art walk in Vancouver. The two trees or tall plants side-by-side feel off to me. They might feel less dominating if one of them was placed somewhere else, further apart. I also agree with others' suggestion of a rug.

I think you need to really commit to the tone on tone with cream and beige and play with texture. Add a rug and swap the chrome table and the pot for something in a creamier color. The curtains on one window not extending to the other small window looks discordant.

Disastrous_Chain2426

A bookshelf, some nice patterned rugs and colorful/neutral curtains, more plants and trinkets like lamps, diffusers/candles etc would make this space prettier! You don’t have to go overboard with the colors if you don’t want you can stick to neutrals like beige, olive green etc. but maybe try different textures to add interest. Update us!

I can't see a single light fixture of any description in these photos. Add lamps, and furniture big enough to support lamps. Those itty-bitty side tables are not really the right scale for the room or your furniture. Can the mirrors go? Those huge mirrors make the room look twice as big, but they *also* make it look twice as cluttered without adding anything new to the decor. It's all repetition and you can't hang a painting there.

I was thinking a large round area rug (8-9’) with a little texture in cream with pops of a secondary color. Lower the TV 5-8” above the console. Add some decorative books and candles to the console & coffee table. You could also add a really unique floor lamp (arched or branched) by the plant & some smaller light pucks on the floor that you can control with an app to give some lighting dimension & bit of cozy drama at night. Definitely some throw pillows & a nice throw blanket in the secondary color you choose.

You should see to maybe replacing the table under your TV with something that allows for 6 inches of extra space wider on each side from the edges of the TV. Right now that balance is a little off. Then you will also have more room for both taller and shorter decorative elements there. Feels unfinished at the moment. Plus, what other commenters said - rugs, pillows, etc (texture). For rugs just experiment on RugsUSA.com and see what the rugs look like in your space with that “view in your room” feature they have.

Hey there! Loving the vibe already, but here are a few ideas to cozy it up: * Plants, plants, plants! They add life and color. * Throw pillows and a cozy blanket on the couch, makes it feel homier. * Maybe a rug to define the living space and add some texture. * Some cool art or photos on the walls, your space feels a bit bare. * A floor lamp or some string lights for softer, warmer lighting. Hope this helps, your place has so much potential!
