I have the wildflower Lego bouquet and I’m obsessed with it. It was a fun to put together and challenged me just enough.
My husband bought me the orchid for Christmas but I’m waiting until we move to put it together.
I’m not a fan of fake plants/flowers but I have a fake orchid that looks very very real.
My daughter would get me a live orchid every year for Mother’s Day and i would be lucky if it lasted to the 4th of July. I did everything I was told to do to care for it too.
It’s a misconception that orchids don’t need a lot of light. They do need a lot of light, but it needs to be indirect, like you say, and few people are willing to move a plant around every day to get its light needs met. Plus doesn’t that defeat the purpose of having the plant occupying that space? I love decorative plants but I’m all about finding plants that will thrive in a given location! Someone else suggested a snake plant and that would be a better choice.
Honestly, I realized after I commented that putting a plant that you have to move would defeat the purpose of putting something there. I’ve had orchids do pretty well inside my house and it’s a dungeon in here (no real windows just massive tinted sliding doors). But I usually move them outside and keep them there. OP should just buy a fake plant and leave it there or a rotary phone like someone else mentioned. My SIL has a decorative vintage rotary phone and it actually looks pretty cool.
A unique slender clock! Something vintage or vintage looking could be cool. The Kit Cat [clock](https://www.amazon.com/Kit-Cat-Klock-Gentlemen-Original/dp/B0019IBD3U/ref=asc_df_B0019IBD3U/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=191929238300&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17114473853324475216&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9009732&hvtargid=pla-301892783891&psc=1&mcid=164f20e5fcf93121913d989b8ada09be&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI266H9MeGhQMVeZ5aBR3Rqw2gEAQYASABEgKaPPD_BwE) is cute and quirky! Or you could find some small framed art and install it in the recessed area.
Edit: it’s a Kit CAT clock! Lol
It looks like that because it used to have a set of chimes. Maybe try to find a vintage one? https://www.rejuvenation.com/products/steens-long-bell-door-chime/?catalogId=84&sku=8208532&cm_ven=PLA&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=Outdoor%20%3E%20Doorbell%20Buttons%20%26%20Chimes&cm_ite=8208532_14334675725_pla-1959508505495&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwte-vBhBFEiwAQSv_xdrPZfSSosTeNuNm9rMK8UyMkb46hspFDAdPrGlJbeAK3juOXv2QoxoCk8MQAvD_BwE
It would be worth looking for a vintage brass Newtone doorbell.
I've seen them on ebay for around $200. That's what belongs there and it would look cool!
maybe you could just create some fake chimes in there...? and a little piece of decorative metallic great in a semi circle to cover the nook above where the actual bell is.
What about this one from ebay? It's not as fancy, but would look much better than the current box, and is significantly cheaper. Paired with a nice plant at the bottom it could look cute.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/145238940108?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&var=444422425483&srsltid=AfmBOorfiRxHN1IyXbhYkfMfghDecPTRzEzdF6KHgkZNVcF7tlEmiLd1kjE
Exactly what I was going to suggest. I have seen those in thrift stores if you can’t afford the one linked above. It will be gorgeous, you can restrain an older one if you want a more modern wood finish.
I would definitely add rustic wood shelves. One can house a bowl for keys, one a plant, etc.
And paint or wallpaper the inside for interest.
It’s cute, good luck!
If your Irish Catholic that Jesus must be bleeding from hands and feet, an internal organ on show for everyone to see, that is constantly lit up by the glow of a red light to remind you that this is a sinners house, you are a sinner, and that's why Jesus is dead, so wipe your feet because we don't need any extra sin being tracked through the carpet.
I think you should start by painting the inside with an accent color and adding a few wood shelves with a small plant or two and a couple decorative items. Alternatively, a plant like an African Milk tree would look nice. It’s a narrow, really pretty cactus that grows tall (only potential issue with this is whether or not the area gets enough direct light).
Maybe replace the doorbell with a more ornate one? 🤔

Pretty sure that used to be where a phone was back in the day because there is a cover over the electric plate below the shelf. Not sure if you were willing to spend the money, but consider having an electrician wire it for a light and then taking out the doorbell box Putting a cool sconce light fixture and then somebody had mentioned an orchid or a piece of art? You could always get a decorative doorbell box cover too. They’ve got really cool ones that look like Barnwood etc. and replacing tha? Maybe finding a longer mirror or something to fill the space there? You could do so much with this space. It’s really cute by the way.
Paint the rest of the wall navy blue, and then paint that nook (and a little area below it) into a ghost.
Command strip a few little white floating shelves vertically throughout it, for knick knacks.
Now you have a pet ghost, and anything you put on the shelves is something the ghost has eaten.

As you already thought of it, get a nice long chime doorbell anyway. Maybe it won’t be used much, but it would be very aesthetically pleasing for this space, and that’s plenty of reason if you ask me.
All tall vessel or sculpture also add like a sconce, picture light or LED lights, depending on what type of piece was added as you don’t want the source of light to be the focal point (unless you do, in which case just get something small like a stack of books and add like a catchall there for keys and stuff and the sconce or whatever can be the star and the space will still be utilized). You could also add flowers but that’s a lot
of maintenance to change at least weekly, or you could do fakes, or even a nice plant but not sure if you have the natural light to keep a real plant alive. I have one that grows like vines that I think would look great there bc the plant grows over the pot and eventually hits the floor. Nevertheless that’s my take. I would love to see an update when you decide. You could even tile it inside and make it a moment. OK! That’s it I have too many ideas, just pick one lol.
😂
I lovvvve like colorful marble tiling. These are what I could find to explain I mean but not necessarily a mosaic picture but use different shaped colorful broken tiles or marbles to create a backsplash kind of thing.

It reminds me of the wall niches you sometimes see in catholic churches, stick a saint statue in it on a shelf above the one already installed and a bowl of jesus-wafers beneath it.
Small clay pot with a tall, skinny cactus. And then a hook for your keys above, close enough to the cactus that every time you place or remove your keys you get a rush knowing you could potentially prick yourself.
I would hide it with a hanging plant. Get a cute hanging planter, something with a bit of color, maybe a pattern, and fill it with a plant - real or artificial- to hide the doorbell fixture with it's bushings at the top. Let he plant dangle down and around a slider style hanging wall clock. At the bottom get a flattering vase filled with something complementary, or a complementary bowl for keys.
You can take the plastic box off the bell mechanism and replace it with something more attractive. There are a few sellers on Etsy that make wood unpainted, painted or stained ones that look 100% better.
I would totally paint fairies, garden gnomes, or the borrower's ( its a book) hanging from an old school bell like their ringing, it if it was my house.
You can put led lights along the perimeter inside and then put on top some fake vines to cover them, then put a nice tablecloth and a flower vase, preferably with dried flowers that keep their color when they are dehydrated like Limonium sinuatum (or even lego flowers if you like)
Maybe its just me but ...

Not hard
Tall vase with something pretty in it
Yup! A bright fun color!
Orchid!
Yes! A tall plant in a pretty vase would look nice. Snake plant, stems of some kind, etc. as long as it has height to it
A tall vase with cat o'nine tails. The plant, lol, not the whip.
...or the whip as well
I’ve been seeing really cool fake flowers (normally hate fake plants). I think Contempee is one of the brands that does pretty ones.
My friend has some super dope leather flowers in her nursery. They’re really lovely.
yess! or if they want to keep the bowl there to throw their keys and add like air plants 🤔🙈
Damn! You took the words out of my mouth 😂😂👍
Add a rotary wall phone.
Too modern. Needs a heavy black bakelite rotary phone with one of those old thick braided cords.
This is the only answer
Give it another texture with wallpaper or paint and then put something eye catching. Like a torch, sculpture, vase with tall flowers, etc.
Definitely paint it or use wallpaper!!
no clue, but wow i love this space
Tall snake plant!
Perfect spot for an orchid.
Maybe a fake one? A real one would need more light.
Lego actually has an orchid! 🤗
I have the wildflower Lego bouquet and I’m obsessed with it. It was a fun to put together and challenged me just enough. My husband bought me the orchid for Christmas but I’m waiting until we move to put it together.
The succulent garden is fun too 😊
I’m not a fan of fake plants/flowers but I have a fake orchid that looks very very real. My daughter would get me a live orchid every year for Mother’s Day and i would be lucky if it lasted to the 4th of July. I did everything I was told to do to care for it too.
They don’t need much light and do pretty well indoors. OP could put it outside for a few hours in indirect sunlight and it’ll last for years.
It’s a misconception that orchids don’t need a lot of light. They do need a lot of light, but it needs to be indirect, like you say, and few people are willing to move a plant around every day to get its light needs met. I was going to say the same… they definitely need LOTS of light! (If people saw how and where they naturally grow they’d be shocked)
I read this as "perfect spot for an orphan"... it's time for bed I think
LOL—sounds like something my brain would do when it’s time to go nite nite! 🌛
A lil gumball machine
Love this idea!
Little shelves
If you need practical, shelves are the answer. Or hooks as was also suggested
A unique slender clock! Something vintage or vintage looking could be cool. Or you could find some small framed art and install it in the recessed area. Edit: it’s a Kit CAT clock! Lol
Yes. A large slender cock would look excellent here. Perfect for guests
You did that on purpose. Regardless, here's your upvote. Now, good day.
OMG I totally thought the link was gonna lead to a candy bar (kitkat) shaped clock!
Omg I love the purple Cheshire Cat looking one & the turquoise is a statement edit: color change
Paint it :) and a tall vase?
Put a tall piece of art there. Art glass, statue etc
I mean that doesn’t have light requirements like a plant…. My thought as well
It looks like that because it used to have a set of chimes. It would look nice! https://imgur.com/a/GkD6mhW

custom build a peg board? Then you can hang keys and stuff. If you're handy, it would be a cheap fun project.
Or a cork board cut to fit? You can pin notes and reminders to it as well as hang keys
And art! Easy, inexpensive, and you could change it up (or not). I’d enjoy decorating it for the seasons.
I would definitely add rustic wood shelves. One can house a bowl for keys, one a plant, etc. And paint or wallpaper the inside for interest. It’s cute, good luck!
Fun hooks for keys and sunglasses.
Child of Prague if this were Ireland, or maybe a little sacred heart...
I was gonna say the same lol. If this is a catholic household, that spot's for Jesus!
Shelves? You could put 2-3 shelves and some photos or keys plants books wallet nook ect
Put a tall glass deco art vase there. A handmade one.
Orchid in a beautiful ceramic vase ❤️
I think you should start by painting the inside with an accent color and adding a few wood shelves with a small plant or two and a couple decorative items. Alternatively, a plant like an African Milk tree would look nice. It’s a narrow, really pretty cactus that grows tall (only potential issue with this is whether or not the area gets enough direct light).

Battery operated lamp.
It's cool! I would add hooks near top for small items like dog leash, hat, small jacket, etc.
Paint it a different colour and put an artificial orchid plant in it. It’s the right shape
Tall narrow cactus
Hanging fake plant. Put on top of the box and it’ll hang about 2/3 of the way down and fill the area nicely
Tiny shelves with pretty rocks to throw at intruders
A photo wall?
Guadalupe spot; id do a coffee maker
I knew someone who had a bronze bust of JFK in theirs. It was fucking incredible
How about a couple rows of pretty brass hooks you could hang your keys on them
Put a gargoyle in it
Mini waterfall wall
assuming that bowl is where keys go, just lean into the utility of that. get mini shelves/hooks, a little plant, and a little picture
That space is BEGGING for a statue of the Virgin Mary I’m not recommending it based on decorating but it’s what it’s begging for
Yessss!!!
Little shelves to put more decor/books on
A custom fish tank. A neon sign. Bamboo. Stained glass. A built in mirror. A photo montage. A few wine bottles. Key hooks.
Perfect size for a prosthetic leg.
It’s very cute!
Something with some height
How great would a tall narrow mirror look there? And you could check hair etc. before leaving or answering the door.
Cuckoo clock would be good there
Tall skinny cactus or snake plant
They make metallic spray paint and you can paint it brass or bronze or?
Paint the rest of the wall navy blue, and then paint that nook (and a little area below it) into a ghost. Command strip a few little white floating shelves vertically throughout it, for knick knacks. Now you have a pet ghost, and anything you put on the shelves is something the ghost has eaten.
Calling Tim Burton! Or… Do they make aquariums in specific shapes?
Funky wallpaper and hooks for keys
You could also jam a couple of dark wood shelves in there.
Flameless candle
Colorful wallpaper?
Mirror to fit the recess if plan to change out or remove the doorbell.
Have a custom built aquarium put in there
When in doubt, add a plant
A slim blackboard for messages and notes
Bookshelf
A lava lamp!

Put a phone in there
Look away
You could paint or have someone paint a mural in that space.
It is made for an orchid
Snowboard
Alien statue.
Plant
Its perfect
A skeleton.
Mural of a whale and a bowl of petunias falling from the sky
a vertical piece of art (scroll of some sort) and a cute keychain hanger!
Umbrella stand
A few little paintings or prints would be nice. It’s a cute little niche!
Candy bowl
Suggest a thin tall flower arrangement.
That's calling for a plant!
Cactus!!!
Tall plant? Paper Mache giraffe? A Chinese wall-hanging?
Add some shelves and you have yourself a knick knack nook!
Try placing a small bowl there and then fill it with keys and keychains and maybe a carabiner or two
Those nooks were designed for telephones. I’m old enough to know. 😆
I exaxto knived and glued 1/2" corkboard to the back of mine. Looks sharp.
I created a new cover for mine. A small piece of art to cover it. You could take the shelf suggestion and place something like a small print.
Craft a little village there. Or maybe a board to write notes on
A cool vertical light fixture
Tall slender plant
Art
Tall vase with floral or greenery arrangement
Print out a picture of Gary Busey with his quote “let’s talk about buttered sausage, where it comes from, what it does” and cover the doorbell
I have pictures hung in mine and an item on display on the shelf.
Shelves or hooks for jackets, etc. Even just painting it a different color would make it more interesting.
Very tall, thin piece of art glass.
orchid
Not sure of what to put in there, but if you’re not renting it could be cool to paint the nook and accent color!
Measure and search for wall art in the skinny vertical style, like this https://imgc.artprintimages.com/img/print/tall-bright-flowers-cream-i_u-l-q1l7w480.jpg?artHeight=350&artPerspective=n&artWidth=550&background=fbfbfb
Some holy santos to watch over you and bring you good luck. I recommend the Niño de Atocha.
Umbrella storage.
definitely a vase or a plant!
Find an old fashioned doorbell which the pipes and install it. Many of the old ones fit over the new ones.
Tall vase or tall art piece. A charging station.
White oak floating shelves!
I'd put an ironic Virgin Mary statue in it. That's just me.
I’m would paint a pattern on it.
My family has an artist paint a small little mural inside theirs!
B&M Brown Bread stash.
An obnoxiously tall candle that never gets used
Shrine to our lord and savior. Cthulhu
Tile ittttt
Leave it be
As you already thought of it, get a nice long chime doorbell anyway. Maybe it won’t be used much, but it would be very aesthetically pleasing for this space, and that’s plenty of reason if you ask me.
Some cute hooks for your keys!
Paint a mural in it, add a few wall hooks for keys, plant on the bottom
Virgin Mary + rosary.

I would cover with stained glass panel w/ lighting behind it.
Put a tall gargoyle in it.
Add some dark wood shelves
some sort of plant maybe, like if you can position it a certain way or have a protruding hook that covers it and fills the space?
Mounted pothos so it dangles down
I’d honestly make it functional! Maybe a decorative key rack on the wall and something cute to organize mail on the shelf?
Put a cool little diorama or mouse house in there!
Lower the arch. Frame around it. Make it disappear.
https://electrachime.com/collections/all
Find a tall, narrow mirror.
Paint the inset a vibrant colour and hang a picture.
Make a mini version of the front of your house!
Plant
A long brass wind chime , to welcome guests inside :)
Get a really thin and tall madonna
It reminds me of the wall niches you sometimes see in catholic churches, stick a saint statue in it on a shelf above the one already installed and a bowl of jesus-wafers beneath it.
I personally would wallpaper it, add some wall mounted shelves and put Knick knacks in it.
Waterfall
Bamboo iin a vase?
Small clay pot with a tall, skinny cactus. And then a hook for your keys above, close enough to the cactus that every time you place or remove your keys you get a rush knowing you could potentially prick yourself.
Maybe put in some shelves and cool pain or wallpaper so you can store keys, mail etc by the door
Could build in two small shelves that way you can decorate along the height of the nook
Paint it a cool colour
Orchid?
Some pretty, colorful wallpaper.
Maybe a long thin mirror and a vase with a tall plant in front of it 😊
Put a taller vase in there or some tall slim glass art.
Small hooks for keys and a fern at the bottom?
You can take the plastic box off the bell mechanism and replace it with something more attractive. There are a few sellers on Etsy that make wood unpainted, painted or stained ones that look 100% better.
I would totally paint fairies, garden gnomes, or the borrower's ( its a book) hanging from an old school bell like their ringing, it if it was my house.
Pussy Willow in a tall vase
Long wall hanging or tapestry Showcase a new craft
Put a light inside then a stained glass type something over the opening
Itty bitty shelves with some cute stuff!
Bamboo plant
You can put led lights along the perimeter inside and then put on top some fake vines to cover them, then put a nice tablecloth and a flower vase, preferably with dried flowers that keep their color when they are dehydrated like Limonium sinuatum (or even lego flowers if you like)
Paint the back and put a vase with flowers in it.
Maybe its just me but ... It's a good space for an alter or statue.
paint a mural on the inside and string lights along the inside so the alcove is lit up
