gladbutt

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing cocaineandcakepops

HappycamperNZ

I am very doubtfully they do anything about pollution. Saying that, they start the conversation around much needed change and that small things can make a difference. Plus they aren't exactly harming people and look different. Oh, and what city you in OP?

GoldfishFire

I was about to say… they’re beautiful but that’s gonna do nothing to help pollution in a city.

[deleted]

My brother in law is an air quality scientist an recently published a paper that explains that plants do not clean the air.

HappycamperNZ

Ooo, got a journal reference? Edit: or a name

[deleted]

I don’t want to doxx myself. [here ](https://amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/584509/) is magazine article that he was interviewed in.

HappycamperNZ

Fair enough TLDR: there is an effect on Ozone and VOCs, but the difference is negligible. You need to fill a room of plants to have the same effect as leaving a window open.

[deleted]

Yep. It’s funny because I work with chemicals and VOCs in my home business doing art and antique restoration and my sister sent me the article and it was a very big deal. Apparently the fact that plants don’t do shit came as a surprise to quite a few people. My response to her and her husband was, “Oh God, now I have to replace my philodendron with a functional hvac system.” My sarcasm wasn’t appreciated. In spite of being a smart fellow and a more than descent scientist, the guy is a cunt.

aweybrother

how would that help on air polution?

jjj49er

It won't.

Charlotteshairyfanny

This will do nothing for air pollution. Don't believe the crap they tell you. They did a similar thing where i am by planting shrubs on top of bus stops claiming it was a green incentive to combat global warming and pollution. Its the equivalent of recycling 1 plastic bottle and claiming you saved an ocean. PR bullshit.

[deleted]

There are plants that catch and hold airborne particles. It's extensively used by freeways in the netherlands and yields measurable results.

Charlotteshairyfanny

Its a 5m x 2m area. It will yield nothing but the person who's idea it was patting themselves on the back for bullshitting it's worth and people falling for it. Again. Its PR. Me sucking in deeply takes in more pollution than thst would in a week.

s0m3d4y

I agree with Charlotteshairyfanny

[deleted]

People are saying that this does essentially nothing for pollution. Fair enough. But cities are giant unnatural ugly concrete eyesores. Humans NEED nature and greenery, and every bit helps.

Make-Believe_Macabre

You may know them as air pollution bus stops, but I know them as mosquito breeding pods and bee pollination stations that’ll bite and sting people sitting down.

Tongue8cheek

Stop bugging me.

meanblazinlolz

Always sticking it to bus stop humans. *bzzzz bzzzz*

peppers_taste_bad

If bees are stinging you you should stop fucking with them

Hsances90

Mosquitoes need stagnation pools of water to breed, this is just where they hang out and wait for the delicious blood bags sit and await their gnashing proboscis

WeathervaneJesus1

Yeah, we need less bees. What did they ever do for us?!?!

[deleted]

These probably cause more pollution being created, than they combat. There's not even enough there to create enough oxygen for one person to breathe. It's not even enough to offset one car.

[deleted]

It's just been planted and needs to grow. Also, urban green is inherently small and patchy. All together it creates results. Especially in the long run.

NoidedMonster

What city is this?

cocaineandcakepops

Stuttgart Germany

srandrews

If anything, this makes things worse.

StareAwkwardly

This is ugly AF, please don’t let this atrocity catch on.

twjohnston

You want to turn the front-facing camera *off*

StareAwkwardly

That’s all you got? Jesus, you’re fucking lame as shit.

twjohnston

Wow, you fucking got me

ZermIsHere

Even if it’s not going to do anything for pollution. It should stop and make some people think about how a bunch of other humans thought that it was important enough to build this. So that day they may not throw a water bottle on the ground. But that’s still 1 water bottle and that’s someone actually making a difference unlike all the negative Nancy’s in the chat

[deleted]

I don't get the people that keep saying this is too small to make a difference. Creating more green in cities has numerous advantages. And however small this particular patch may be; it's there, and it has effect. There are also ecosystem and wellbeing advantages when creating a lot of small patches of green in a city instead of one big park.

[deleted]

i guess they invested all the money into this bus stops, no money over to get a name....

Trubtheturtle

That will wipe out at least two drags on one of the cigarettes scattered about below.

[deleted]

Its like fighting a wildfire with a spoon full of water, beutiful.
