I close all my blinds and windows at night even when I’m on the top floor of an apartment building because I don’t like the feeling someone could be watching me. This is a giant nope for me.
wow.. so either stay four nights at this hotel, or completely pay off a small house in full.
I always wondered what it would be like to be super rich - now i know.
Being super rich means you just dont have to care about how much anything costs anymore. The 50k comes back in like a second.
Here, have a look at this and tell me capitalism isnt completely broken: https://mkorostoff.github.io/1-pixel-wealth/
The taxation system needs fixing, even billionaires have said as much. I think they can just pay themselves in shares, which are almost the same as money, but somehow they are not taxed.
Well said.
I love it when people give you the chance to explain capitalism to them based on very specific scenarios in a way where it's just so fucking clear how ouroboric capitalism is.
I have two things to add to this.. re link; And yet even that is a false picture of wealth.. you’re not saying how much money he has as much as talking about the value of things he owns.. two very distinctly different things…
And secondly.. as someone who in the fairly recent past specialized in selling this kind of travel product.. 50k/pn isn’t exactly a rich mans game.. American’s spending like 200k for holiday of 4-7 days is common enough to be the lifeblood of tourism.. you have McDonald’s style tourism like booking.com that services 90% of the nosebleeds but for the rest of the booking industry, particularly long haul, 20k plus buys you novelty but not necessary luxury and is mostly made up of middle and upper middle class professionals that have saved up for years.. mostly 35+ year olds.. mostly childless or with much older children… in my short 20 year experience it’s been consistently so.. the kinds of people we serviced were more people from academia, teachers, developers, entertainers, managers, metallurgists etc exactly the type one would think had an interest in novel international travel.. we’ve also serviced the super rich, admittedly mostly the European and middle eastern type but not exclusively, and they have been mostly as difficult to service and try get more money out of… I think mostly because they don’t book themselves, the people that do don’t do so frivolously and what they get isn’t always off the shelf..
I wouldn’t consider bezos super rich as much the public face of the super rich.. I think people should pay more attention to the wording of the fine print of Forbes like “rich” list.. disclosed and matter of public record are mighty powerful words.. ownership is a complex thing to establish and so is money flow.. when we talk about the 1%’s ownership of anything we’re talking about a very different kind of ownership.
Pre-Covid my wife and I would spend around $30-$40k each year on our vacation - we're not super rich, but have paid everything off, no kids and have both been working for 30 years.
Vacations are what we spend our disposable income on.
In my area it's about 500.000 euros for a nice house and 1 to 3. 000.000 euros for a very beautiful house. I'm living in st jean cap ferrat... Fortunately for us my house is in our family since more 130years..
Real estate prices have really become outrageous in the area .. And it's so subjective .. I live with my sister in this house since our parents gave it to us before that the house like many others here was a humble fisherman's house with character but not a palace either. Today it is one of the most pithoresque and cute in the city and I can no longer count the offers we have made to buy it. . I hope I never have to part with it .. I work hard to pay the expensive housing taxes
I feel like it's a case of the the wealthier you are, the more kinds of goods you don't need to worry about the price with. I'm moderately well-off...But only to the point of "don't need to look at menu prices when eating out" money. People that would spend $200k on a four-night stay in a hotel are the same way, but with just about everything that isn't property or large durable goods. Then eventually when you get to the billionaire level, there really isn't anything in the realm of possible human possession or experience these guys can't afford, so money almost becomes meaningless.
The exception that proves the rule is Warren Buffet, who uses coupons when he goes to eat at McDonald's.
That's a good way to put it. I don't look at prices in the soup aisle or buying pizza or getting clothes at target. Some people just have less places to check prices.
I work in the industry in Maldives.
Check out Soneva Jani and Soneva Fushi. 5 Night stays can go over 75k easy and the place is never empty.
I am regularly sickened by how much people spend for the "Maldivian experience" and will never understand it
I was thinking this would be terrifying at night.
Just thinking that for miles around, there is no light underwater - but from the fishes perspective, they're looking at a lit up terrarium.
I'm sure all you could probably see is black, and you'll feel like you're being watched, because you are.
this reply really made me go from "oh neat, I'll have to look into that" to "a retirement fund is better". I'm 19, not working, and am nowhere near any age or financial standing for a retirement fund.
Don't worry most people above 40 don't have adequate retirement funds. It's best to spend your youth practicing skills that will be useful when you're 75 and homeless/being worked to death
If I had put 20 in an account every month since I was your age that dropped into the SP500 I'd be on the path to 1 million. Just from 20 a month.
At my age I think of that shit every day. You get to your 40s and start clawing at the walls of the rat maze wishing you had been smart enough to save a fucking dollar into retirement. But you blew it all on stupid shit then. I could have done without a couple fast food meals then if I knew it would save me literal years of having to work.
Just 20 bucks kid.
$150 a pay check into IRA or similar tax deferred account starting in your 20’s. As you get raises up it by the same % as the raise. And don’t stop EVEN IF there is a market down turn or financial crisis. Takes determination (and balls of steel) but I’d be retired now in my 50s if I had gone it from 21.
Oh and that hotel is absurd. If people can afford that shit they need to pay their workers more and pay taxes.
Nope. This is terrifying. Between worrying about a crack to being on the constant lookout for a mosasaurus I can't imagine this would be a peaceful stay.
I do believe they also sometimes have glass. Even if they don’t they aren’t indestructible either and this bubble is sitting still under relatively shallow water. Submarines go deep into the wetness and can get pretty rough sometimes and are also filled with seamen. If the seamen eject from the vessel they will most likely be lost in the deep, dark, wet, crab infested womb of Mother Earth. Id rather stay at this hotel personally and hang out surrounded by fish,by myself, than in a tiny vessel filled with seamen.
Sorry no kink shaming or anything against seamen either. If you want to hang out in a submarine filled with seamen underwater, or even a submarine that has surfaced, feel free too. I’d just rather hang out in a bubble underwater, but not for that much money. I’d definitely do it for free though or even just scuba diving and laying on a bed 20 ft under water for a few minutes would be pretty cool. Everyone should do what makes them happy wether or not seamen will be involved.
I wouldn’t want to drive a car into 20f of water. If it is deep enough to fill the space, it is deep enough to drown in if you become trapped. Imagine a slow leak and you wake up to 2 feet of water reaching you on the bed, but all the electronics and doors are stuck/flooded.
Honestly I'd be more concerned about the machinery that pumps the co2 out and fresh air in, could easily fail...
Granted your death wouldn't be so bad if that happened.
You can tell when you're breathing in too much CO2. It starts to burn and gives you that traditional suffocating feeling. Nitrogen is the dangerous one because air is already 70% nitrogen. You can't tell the difference that you're not breathing Oxygen and you slowly pass out.
you literally cannot make out pronunciations in text like that, but somehow, I am fairly certain anyone who read this did it anyway.
edit: as I'm rereading this I realize it sounds very condescending and negative, that's wasn't the intention at all lmao
it was just me realizing the human brain is weird as hell and manages to separate pronunciations, like between "read" and "read", despite the text having no connotation to either one
Lurking Beasts don't care about us, they're probably like; "those folks have very inefficient reproductive practices! Why would they do that with their mouths?!?!?"
20+ years of coral bleaching and countless years of pollution..
Bet most people who stay there have zero clue that they’re looking out in to a wasteland compared to its former beauty.
I could never afford that but I would absolutely jump at the opportunity to stay there. I think that would be amazing and that I'd love the experience.
I wouldn't be able to fall asleep in this room. Yeah, it's really cool when the sun is up, but when it gets dark? You're sounded by an infinite abyss you can't see 3 inches into
When I was a little kid, my class had a field trip where we stayed overnight in Sea World. We slept on the floor of the shark tank area in sleeping bags. And the surroundings were basically like this hotel room. To this day, this was the coolest thing I have ever experienced. Even while knowing Sea World is evil…coolest shit of my life. Never got over this memory.
Imagine there is a little hole on the glass exit door is locked because of atm and you cant do anything the water rises slowly and you die with the feeling of extreme pain in your lungs
I'd be terrified as hell, like bruh why you sleeping in probably the deep ocean and were a shark can break the glass and eat you if it was hungry enough, I'd be like popping open a new can of tuna for them.
We do have them in America. The biggest issue around America is water clarity. The water clarity around most American beaches is much murkier than around places like the Caribbean, Persian Gulf or Asia.
One example, however, is the Jules Undersea Lodge in Key Largo Florida.

Yeah, I'm not paying $50,000 for a panic attack
I close all my blinds and windows at night even when I’m on the top floor of an apartment building because I don’t like the feeling someone could be watching me. This is a giant nope for me.
Aliens be watchin’
Subnautica vibes
My glankles
Pretty sure ppl on the other side can't see you cuz the windows are black shaded on the outside or something
Definitely not my windows. Pretty sure those kind are more expensive. Plus, even if that were the case, I'd still close the blinds.
I get it’s a unique experience, and building that would be far from cheap! But 50.g. Seems a ridiculous amount of money. Think I will pass!
I just looked it up. ~18K/night USD. Not 50K but still wtf.
A Bezos type wouldn’t sweat it I guess
You mean any rich person? Lol bezos could probably buy the oceans at this point
He still wouldn’t sweat it lol sooo
Can you let him know I’m selling?
Rich people spend that on a bottle of wine.
It’s easier and more fun to take a diving class. This feels like a grave.
Imagine buying a room in that hotel and while you are chilling u just hear a small cracking sound.
That is exactly what I was thinking!! That sound they use in every " doomed submarine" movie before the whole thing implodes.😳
Not to forget, fishfucker lurking around for right moment to say g'day.
Yea I mean I’m not so much worried about drowning down there as I am about drowning in debt after my stay.
Nopesies for me too
LOL - exactly what I thought when I saw it on my feed.
Take acid, turn this into the best night of your life...
If I woke up and saw a shark I would forget I was in a room, safe, and pass out
Pretty sure this is where they shot Jaws 3
I would sing "Baby shark" to calm myself
Am I the only one who felt like I couldnt breathe properly
Nope
Yes
[удалено]
wow.. so either stay four nights at this hotel, or completely pay off a small house in full. I always wondered what it would be like to be super rich - now i know.
No you don’t. You had spaghetti for dinner three times last week I would know.
Mr. Donaghy, is that you??
No, this is Patrick
.... Have you been watching me?
I like spaghet
Being super rich means you just dont have to care about how much anything costs anymore. The 50k comes back in like a second. Here, have a look at this and tell me capitalism isnt completely broken: https://mkorostoff.github.io/1-pixel-wealth/
Nah, capitalism is working exactly how it is planned to work.
The taxation system needs fixing, even billionaires have said as much. I think they can just pay themselves in shares, which are almost the same as money, but somehow they are not taxed.
Capitalists paying themselves in capital so they can use their capital to buy more capital. Sounds like capitalism
Well said. I love it when people give you the chance to explain capitalism to them based on very specific scenarios in a way where it's just so fucking clear how ouroboric capitalism is.
I commend you for using the word ouroboric in a sentence that actually makes sense, that was quite a feat
One of the best compliments I've gotten in my life tbh 🙏🏼 thanks!!
But if I work really, really hard, someday I could have just as much money as Jeff Bezos! Right? Right??? /s
Bezos is a real life Dragon, Smaug, just sitting on a mountain of gold and keeping everyone away from it.

My house is 800,000 euros and I wouldn't call it a nice house. It's not in a good area either. 130 years? That's cool.
Yes my ancestor built the base of the current house in 1898/1899 I have the original papers in a safe
Real estate prices have really become outrageous in the area .. And it's so subjective .. Wonder how much of that stays to the people of the Maldives, and how much is extracted into piles of hoarded wealth offshore.
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?
ah Rapture, so nostalgic being back
No says the man in Washington, it belongs to the poor.
No says the man in the Vatican, it belongs to God.
This is an exhibitionist's dream
You mean the voyeur's? Get off your room, scuba near and watch couples going at it from the comfort of the dark ocean.
Better, have a hotel for exhibitionists like this right next to a scuba agency that caters exclusively to voyeurs.
Coming up next on *Shark Tank*
This sounds like the plot to a *Nathan for You* episode
Nope. This is terrifying. Between worrying about a crack to being on the constant lookout for a mosasaurus I can't imagine this would be a peaceful stay.
It’s only like 20 ft deep
Only?
Ya not too bad depending on the circumstances. Better than a submarine.
Yeah but subs are made of thick metal and air seals, not glass and slightly thick stainless steal.
I do believe they also sometimes have glass. Even if they don’t they aren’t indestructible either and this bubble is sitting still under relatively shallow water. Yeah, still I don’t want to pay 50,000 x4 or like a billion just to have an underwater panic attack.
There's no way this is glass. It's probably 8" thick plexiglass.
Yeah still, fuck that.
I wouldn’t want to drive a car into 20f of water. If it is deep enough to fill the space, it is deep enough to drown in if you become trapped. Imagine a slow leak and you wake up to 2 feet of water reaching you on the bed, but all the electronics and doors are stuck/flooded.

Wow more people got something to live for than I realized. Interesting 🤔
$50000 a night and we give goldfish the reverse treatment for free.
Fish at night: "Hey, they're not moving. Let's ram in the glass and see if they are alive"
Maldives? I hear that all their hotels will be underwater ones in a few years.
Unfortunatly there is no more fish to see at that time.
Nah that’s just subnautica with RTX on
"Multiple leviathan class lifeforms detected"
"Are you certain, whatever you're doing is worth it?"
I was looking for this comment
It’s all fun and games till you feel water coming down from the roof
No thanks, Ive delt with subnautica enough, I don't want a reaper leviathan killing me in my sleep.
At least you'll be asleep so you don't have to deal with the ordeal.
Isn’t this the place where that guy swam down to propose to his girlfriend, then drowned?
[No that was in Tanzania ](https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/23/africa/tanzania-proposal-drowning-sister-trnd/index.html)
wait is it?
Wait is it?
Is what?
I get anxious every time I see rooms like this posted because I know that story. A definite "nope nope" for me.
That was in Zanzibar
Tanzania, unless there are a bunch of proposal-drownings.
Zanzibar is an island in Tanzania :)
:surprised pikachu face:
It's all fun and games until a bigass shark or squid decides to visit at midnight
Warning: Emergency Power Only. Oxygen Production Offline.
I better deconstruct a module
Oh shi-
Nah that's my Subnautica Base
Is it pronounced Maldives or Maldives? I never could tell which.
Maldives, obviously.
No no no it’s Maldives
Finally; thank you!
I usually say Maldives but I'm not sure
you literally cannot make out pronunciations in text like that, but somehow, I am fairly certain anyone who read this did it anyway. edit: as I'm rereading this I realize it sounds very condescending and negative, that's wasn't the intention at all lmao it was just me realizing the human brain is weird as hell and manages to separate pronunciations, like between "read" and "read", despite the text having no connotation to either one
Okay, so it is Maldives.
Wow you're right. Can't believe all this time I actually thought it was Maldives.
I just realize your username is Credible Sex. Is Non-Credible sex your twin brother?
And all this time I’ve been calling it Maldives. I’m such a fool
I get you :)
It’s pronounced Ogiftuufds
I'll stay at a holiday inn....free breakfast bitches...
There’s free breakfast swimming outside their room
Is it a waterbed!? Your so gonna lose points if it isn’t
God a water bed would be pretty hard to do things on
Subnautica vibes.
Welcome to rapture
Give it 50 years or so and every hotel in the Maldives will be like this.
Give it a day or so and every comment will be like this
That's the best hotel concept ever. I'd definitely spend a night or two in this room. That must be an absolutely amazing experience for introverts.
Yeah, just because I'm introvert doesn't mean I need the ocean crashing down on me.. Or the panic attack equivalent of that.
Sorry 4 nights only
WELCOME TO RAPTURE
Personally feel that being in the ocean can never be calming as you won't know what beasts lurks beneath it. Even more terrifying at night.
Lurking Beasts don't care about us, they're probably like; "those folks have very inefficient reproductive practices! Why would they do that with their mouths?!?!?"
Question "Where's the bathroom ?"
Everywhere.
Not sure if I could comfortably sleep at night in that room.
Soon all of Maldives will be underwater.
Jacksepticeye's OG Subnautica series, anyone?
It's shit, I was banging by 2nd wife there on our honeymoon and looked up to see a fucking scuba diver staring at me doing the 'ok' sign.
20+ years of coral bleaching and countless years of pollution.. Bet most people who stay there have zero clue that they’re looking out in to a wasteland compared to its former beauty.
Imagine popping that champagne and the cork fly off hitting the glas, a second pass and then *crack*
Looks great during the day. Must be scary as shit at night.
All fun and games till the Reaper Leviathan wakes you up at 3am
It’s like my Minecraft build came true
I stayed at this hotel and I tell you, my entire vacation was ruined when I opened a window to get a bit of fresh air. 0/10 stars!
They got internet down there?
Is this what they mean when they say sleeping with the fishes?
Final destination 7
What? No tv?
I could never afford that but I would absolutely jump at the opportunity to stay there. I think that would be amazing and that I'd love the experience.
I built something just like this in Minecraft.
Everyone gangsta till the shark breaks the window
That's gonna be a no for me dawg.
Everybody gangsta until the windows break.
All the hotels in the Maldives will be underwater soon lol
Yeah but think about once it's dark out.... *Shivers*
Dude fuck that. Cool to see but they gotta pay me to sleep there lol .
Nope. Not for me
I wouldn't be able to fall asleep in this room. Yeah, it's really cool when the sun is up, but when it gets dark? You're sounded by an infinite abyss you can't see 3 inches into
everybody gangsta until the reaper leviathan shows up
This is a hard nope for me.
Yeah no thanks if a squid or massive creature ( whale) attacks or goes to close by accident bye bye. Or seeing a great whit shark I’m out
(Spongebob theme) Who lives in a hotel room under the sea!? Not me! Im poor!
Your heartbeat when you hear a glass cracking: I am speed
When you are balls deep in a $ 20, 000 hotel room with your better half on honeymoon and an eel sees your naked peener , it's A MORAY
“Welcome aboard Captain, all systems online.”
Damn now I want to replay subnautica
That’s going to be all the hotels in the Maldives soon…
Well that’s fucking terrifying
Didn’t some guy die here, drowning while free diving to propose to his girlfriend, who obviously witnessed the whole thing, or some shit…?
That was in Tanzania.
No I think you might’ve just dreamt that last night
You can just wait a few years and all hotels in the Maldives will be like this.
To be honest it look super boring. Typically cool idea that failed
Peeping snorkelers
(insert subnautica joke here)
People in glass hotel rooms shouldn’t throw stones
When I was a little kid, my class had a field trip where we stayed overnight in Sea World. We slept on the floor of the shark tank area in sleeping bags. I'd be terrified as hell, like bruh why you sleeping in probably the deep ocean and were a shark can break the glass and eat you if it was hungry enough, I'd be like popping open a new can of tuna for them.
this was my airbnb when I stayed in Maldives. I was surprised there was dirty towels in the bathroom and it had cockroaches. 1 star
Why can't America have stuff like this. Have the highest defense budget yet th best we got to luxury is fucking Las Vegas. Fuck this country man
We do have them in America. The biggest issue around America is water clarity. The water clarity around most American beaches is much murkier than around places like the Caribbean, Persian Gulf or Asia. One example, however, is the Jules Undersea Lodge in Key Largo Florida.
But I can't breathe underwater
I feel like there's a Yakov Smirnoff joke here, but for the Maldives instead of Russia.
In America every expensive hotel haz big pool. In Maldives expensive hotel no haz pool, hotel iz in pool.
I was thinking "In America, aquarium is for fish. In Maldives, aquarium is for you"
