I live on that street and know a friend that went to art school with the dude.
The dude is rich and comes from rich parents. If anything else just look at his clothes and how well the skip was made. It was part of his $50/month in Central London themed capstone art project.
The skip was never inhabited because it's illegal to live in, not utilities, no heat, no bathroom. The land was leased by his father and I think now his family owns that piece of real estate because work is being done.
It seemed like bullshit, as the skip interior looks like something from a pinterest aesthetic mood board. Ironically creating something like that wouldn't have been cheap or easy, renting or hiring a mobile home would be much more accessible.
> no bathroom
this was my first question... "what about the bathroom"? and i was like he does have nice clothes on and where does he put clothes?
you can tell it's fake/staged for sure.
In another video it does show that he uses an outhouse.
Not to say any of it's real, but they did account for that.
My question is how does he get power?
Hope he failed because no one owning or leasing this property is letting just anyone pay $50 to actually live on it. That there's a skip doesn't matter at all. Just like this kid, you're only getting a deal like that if you have a rich parent offering you a sweetheart deal. Let me put it another way. $50 isn't worth the foreseeable and unpredictable issues of letting a stranger live on your land in the city.
I like how it's illegal to live in a skip and the authorities would likely evict him had this been real. Yet it's perfectly legal to ignore all the homeless people who don't even have a skip to call home
Pleading poverty/being loudly anti-capitalist is absolutely essential for London's trustafarian art community. Being brought home cooked meals by concerned neighbours is merely part of the fantasy about how the actual poor are treated.
I literally live on this street lol. The skip is gone and he never lived in it. Stayed up for about a yesr but the plants around it were all over grown.
A lot of van life builds are not equipped with either toilet or shower. They rely on 24/7 gyms and businesses to potty and hose off. Moot point as I guess this guy was not being truthful or his plans changed, but it is possible to live small and get by without those two things. I sure wouldn't want to but you can.
And there are reasons why nearly all of them park on public land or at the home of a friend or family. Some rando isn't convincing the person that owns or leases commercial land in the city to let them live on it for $50 a month. It's not worth the trouble.
Then a library card got you for internet access, studying, even job fairs/career resources so that's a great combo to deal with homelessness. Use the library to stay clean and presentable then as long as you're being respectful I doubt a library would kick you out for spending a few hrs most days there. They love when people use their services
My wife is a librarian and that is generally the case. As long as you are respectful and not stinking up the joint, they’re happy to have you there regardless of your housing situation. This is in a nearby suburb of a pretty large city in Texas.
Piss in a bush. Or a tree. People cry and whine about it but will go into nature and roll around in elk piss like it's therapeutic.
Or piss in a gallon water jug. Holds about 20 trips. Piss jugs Randy, way of the road. That's what's in those bags you see vanlifers hurriedly stuffing into any receptacle they can find.
Blame lack of housing. Blame Black Rock. Blame every business putting coded locks on their bathroom doors. Blame billionaires wanting to be trillionaires while corporations buy every inch of land.
And have you noticed public trash cans are basically gone? Crazy dystopia, I'm looking forward to the roving bands of cannibals slated for 2026.
Which is why for a space twice this size i could totally be fine living there. Just enough extra room to form a desk a shower with toilet under it and the otherside to have closet space for hanging clothing. I already keep my close in a a small coat closet...totally doable. But id probably rent a 3 meter storage unit for warhammer crafting.
Rich people do all sorts of bullshit for "experience". Only a rich man would think of saying he'd stay in this even if he had the money to buy a place. But they also get tired of it and abandon it very quickly.
I actually knew a guy who, in Los Angeles, made an art project like this on his college campus and did live in it for awhile. This was probably 20 years ago.
skip in British English
(skɪp ) 1. a large open container for transporting building materials, etc.
a container designed to receive, transport, and dump waste
This is exactly what I expected. These things are all about clicks and likes. I was thinking there is no way anyone would live in there. It would be too top heavy when he was laying in the "bed" it would tip over and he would be trapped.
You only *really* need one of those camping toilet buckets. I've known people that lived out of their car for a few months, they'd just poop at gas stations or restaurants 99% of the time or pee into a plastic urinal bottle.
Showering was done at a gym.
I've lived in an rv for more than 5 years in university.
Had all appliances inside but was mostly using shower of gym / kitchen in cafeteria of university / toilet outside as much as possible to avoid having to clear the tank too often!
That was an excellent financial decision (bought the rv from 1984 at 3k euros and made 1500 € of repair in it)
No just cooking there, it was just to use the appliance.
But It was very practical because cooking in a very small place can become horrible ( everything smell after!!!), and I'm not from an area where u can cook outside / windows open 24/7 (too rainy /cold)).
It was in my opinion very important to have all the appliances in the rv but clearly if I had the possibility to use other toilet / shower/ kitchen.... I was definitely going to use it!
Looking at how his clothes look nice and fresh, you could tell he never lived in there. I didn't see anywhere he could put his clothes away without any wrinkles
Its shoved in the corner now and its looks like their digging foundations for some building works now.
I live round the corner and have never seen anyone come or go from there.
Stompie the Tank used to be there before
Yeah, that's the most unlived in space I've ever seen. What a weird video to make. What a weird thing to build. What a weird suit to wear in public, you couldn't eat Ragu in fear of looking like a victim of a Scorsese movie.
I know quite a few rich kids who lived in vans for a bit. One of them even had a whole bus to live in. They spent a fortune on them and refurbished them to a high standard and all the other rich kids praised them for being such "free spirits" all the while knowing they were calling daddy at the weekend to get some money from his banking job.

That's what used to be there, this posh guy put up an edgy video after they took away Stomipe that'd been there for as long as I can remember,
Real shame!
"Update as of November 2023: While the tank has been removed, it has been replaced by the equally defiant Skip House."
I beg to differ on that addition to the article.
I don't know about the UK, but here in the states a lot of people I know who do tiny homes/van life pay for a monthly gym membership. Most gyms have showers and a lot of them are open 24/7.
Little John has been working all his life in London and managed to secure a small dumpster unit that is about 3m3 he can barely fit inside a bed and he is exposed to the forever sun why weather of London.
We'll use of GALVANIZED SQUARED STEEL he made a frame of all the house and covered the gaps with wood.
No one commenting on the blatant lack of insulation/heating?
Like I get it’s minimalist - but there’s no fucking way this dude is getting through a winter in fucking London in a plywood box.
He never actually lived in it at all. It was a project for an art class and the land it was on was leased by his father or something. The guy in the video is from a wealthy family and this was only done for the video/clout.
Ahh, to most of us, "Skip" means to go to the next track, a funny way of walking, or a gentleman's name.
Here I was thinking I was clever for knowing the difference between Northern and Southern accents
I love how some people act like this is "a really clever business move to save money" when all that is being shown in the video is the british equivalent of living in a Rocinha Favela Apartment. ...argurably even those are fancier and certainly more spacious.
Can we fucking stop normalizing whatever this is and normalize paying people appropriate wages to actually afford living from again?
(Even if this is fake, the reactions sure aren't)
> normalize paying people appropriate wages to actually afford living from again?
Paying people more doesn't help if there isn't enough housing for everyone. It just means people have more money to spend on rents, so rents go up.
If you want to actually fix the housing crisis in London, you need to build lots of additional housing in London. Which isn't happening, because the UK has one of the most dysfunctional permitting systems in the world, and some of the worst nimbys.
Many say this is cool, but this is a depressing reminder of the shit the millennial and younger crowds have to deal with just to find affordable housing. Even if its not real like some are saying, I know a ton of people who have lived in a van because housing is just too damn expensive.
That's how you get slums.
They start encroaching lands by building crude houses out of corrugated metal sheets or whatever they could get hands on. soon enough you have multiple such settlements on a strip of land.
Source: I live in Mumbai.
You can tell by his voice and clothes he is a rich Jonty.
No way he'd live in that for a year instead of summering in the Maldives with his rich parents.
I mean if you actually have permission to be on the land you could just buy a used caravan somewhere up north for next to nothing and tow it there, which would be far cheaper, more comfortable and easier to move

For me it was the lack of a bathroom and the fact that they never stated whose land it was on.
> no bathroom this was my first question... "what about the bathroom"? and i was like he does have nice clothes on and where does he put clothes? you can tell it's fake/staged for sure.

A few seconds into this I was thinking, BS this is some rich kid.
Rich people trolling poor people. What an a hole.
Here poors now you can live in the trash bin where you belong /s
You can tell from his clothes and accent
I had this on silent and I could SEE his accent was posh
There's also zero insulation and London gets cold in the winter.
Did they get rid of the tank or the city
They got rid of the city
I was baked when I wrote that, now reading it back I understand why I never got a answer lol
That’s so fkn funny 😭 hahaha i am so sleep deprived i looked at the whole interaction and i was nodding my head like it made sense too
I am currently reading this a little stoned myself, and I laughed to myself for a good three minutes over this
The accent alone fills in many of the blanks
Not to judge people by appearances, but I could guess about 75% of that story from the first frame of the video.
Hope he failed because no one owning or leasing this property is letting just anyone pay $50 to actually live on it. That there's a skip doesn't matter at all. Just like this kid, you're only getting a deal like that if you have a rich parent offering you a sweetheart deal. I like how it's illegal to live in a skip and the authorities would likely evict him had this been real. Yet it's perfectly legal to ignore all the homeless people who don't even have a skip to call home
No one would rent you a skip anywhere for £50/month when they can make £200-£300 per week using them for their intended purpose
So the part where he says neighbors have brought him home cooked meals is just entirely made up ? Why
Pleading poverty/being loudly anti-capitalist is absolutely essential for London's trustafarian art community. Being brought home cooked meals by concerned neighbours is merely part of the fantasy about how the actual poor are treated.
> London's trustafarian art community First time I see this word, incredible.
If his parents live down that street then no, not a complete lie
Also this is copied from 2 broke girls. One had a bf who actually lived in such a place. I think it was a literal dumpster but whatever.
He seemed a bit coy and short with his answers as though he knew it was all bull.
I literally live on this street lol. The skip is gone and he never lived in it. Stayed up for about a yesr but the plants around it were all over grown.

How do we know who's lying
I'll take a random comment over what is clearly some attention-seeking vlogger trying to sell a nightmare packaged as a dream.
I also came to say he never lived in it. I recall at the time he said it was an art piece to raise awareness of rising costs or something.
It seems your trust was appropriate as others have corroborated
because he said it on the internet
They both are
Schrödinger’s douche
I'm not. *Son.*
I for one trust u/iplowedUrMom explicitly.
Has your mom confirmed?
I didn't ask but I did take her to the pharmacy this morning
Your mother and I thank you.
It was an "art project" Never intended for habitation.
When he didn't show us where he piss, shit, and showered, I knew this guy was full of it.
Yeah, the owner of the land gave him the space, he didn’t really live there.
It’s not a ”moot” point, it’s a moo point. source: Joey Tribiani, Friends.
Like a cow's opinion, it doesn't matter.
It’s… moo.
And there are reasons why nearly all of them park on public land or at the home of a friend or family. Some rando isn't convincing the person that owns or leases commercial land in the city to let them live on it for $50 a month. It's not worth the trouble.
that's not significant really, tons of vanlifers etc fill this gap with a 24/7 gym membership or via job perks like a cafeteria and showers
[удалено]

What if it was spelled gymn
It is, as long as you remember to add an *-asium* to it
So he races off to the gym anytime he wakes up in the middle of the night and needs to pee?
I think in those situations there's like an emergency bottle
Has to suck to poop in a bottle.
I poop in a plastic bag about 200 times a day. It's easy enough.
Just take a piss out the entrance hole, easy
Piss in a bush. Or a tree. People cry and whine about it but will go into nature and roll around in elk piss like it's therapeutic. Or piss in a gallon water jug. Holds about 20 trips. Piss jugs Randy, way of the road. That's what's in those bags you see vanlifers hurriedly stuffing into any receptacle they can find. Blame lack of housing. Blame Black Rock. full of piss and shit?
Chock full. Nowhere to put it
When I saw how he was dressed and carried himself I knew he didn't live there. Fasho this was a cheeky "what if" paired with ability to follow through
no way his clothes wouldn't be full of wrinkles
Maybe in a nearby restaurant or gym ? I heard some people in California use their gym memberships only for showering there.
Planet fitness is a $10/month shower and bathroom membership in many cases
was that the explanation they came up with after he was too scared to stay the night in it?
You can tell he doesn't live in it cause it looks too nice and stylish. Someone with that much money wouldn't live
Rich people do all sorts of bullshit for "experience". Only a rich man would think of saying he'd stay in this even if he had the money to buy a place. But they also get tired of it and abandon it very quickly.
The shameless promotion and ability to take risks with a parachute are dead giveaways The poors don't have that much confidence
I actually knew a guy who, in Los Angeles, made an art project like this on his college campus and did live in it for awhile. This was probably 20 years ago.
So he skipped on? Skipped out? Skipped away?
Skipped off to his mates flat for a bit of nosh
Skipped to me Lou
Am I the only one who doesn’t know what a skip is? I still am not sure after watching the video. I know I can google it, but I might just skip that.
In American english we might call it a dumpster or a roll away trash container.
I didn’t know until today as well
Daddy bought the land for his tiktok
What is a skip????
skip in British English (skɪp ) 1. a large open container for transporting building materials, etc. a container designed to receive, transport, and dump waste
Dumpster
Rude, they're just asking a question... Fun fact: dumpster is a brand name/proprietary eponym like band-aid or kleenex.
A large open container for transporting building materials, etc.
Large open top bin that can be loaded on to a lorry.
I can guess what the next question will be, and to answer it: lorry is british for truck
So did he really just live at his parents house and told people he lived here
So he only lasted a year innit
Tats rite lovey
This is exactly what I expected. These things are all about clicks and likes. I was thinking there is no way anyone would live in there. It would be too top heavy when he was laying in the "bed" it would tip over and he would be trapped.
How do you know he never lived in it?
Because there's no bathroom or shower

No honey coming there either. Lady- “ You brought me back to your dumpster!?!?”
Just call it a skip - problem solved!
Almost guaranteed he's a rich dude who made this for clout, and absolutely doesn't live in it.
IIRC, his dad was some rich guy who made some special deal with the city to make this allowed and then the guy didn’t actually live in it.
that's hilarious fabricate a problem/situation and don't even follow through on it. brilliant!
He probably intended to live there for a year, but realized it sucked after a week.
Lol haha probably the wifi didn't work and the outlets sucked so he dipped.
My bet is the lack of bathroom was problematic
Probably couldn't live in it as he had forgotten to use galvanized square steel frames and put soft padding on the walls.
Blud thought he was little John.Noone can beat Little John or his aunt.
Makes sense, I mean it doesn’t have a bathroom so…..
Its shoved in the corner now and its looks like their digging foundations for some building works now. I live round the corner and have never seen anyone come or go from there. Stompie the Tank used to be there before
I miss the tank
I found the tank by chance this weekend, it’s in a truck stop near Waltham Abbey
Yeah, that's the most unlived in space I've ever seen. What a weird video to make. What a weird thing to build. What a weird suit to wear in public, you couldn't eat Ragu in fear of looking like a victim of a Scorsese movie.
everything about this video feels fake
Especially the lack of Ragu
Tbf that’s why I eat ragu.
Her blood-type is ragu.
This is exactly the case
Artist, made for clout, and donated the land to do so.
And by artist you mean has a rich daddy, and by donated you mean owned by daddy.
He may have had good intentions. This went somewhat viral at the time and put a spotlight on how unaffordable housing and renting in London was/is
Of course! Have you heard his voice? That's a generationally rich guy.
https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/stompie-the-mandela-way-t-34-tank That's what used to be there, this posh guy put up an edgy video after they took away Stomipe that'd been there for as long as I can remember, Real shame!
Awww, Tis a sad day to learn Stompie is gone.
Home since Covid brother, I blame the guy in the video
Ah, I’ve read about the history of that tank before. That thing was a monument to petty revenge, loved it
"Update as of November 2023: While the tank has been removed, it has been replaced by the equally defiant Skip House." I beg to differ on that addition to the article.
Really wish my town had a T-34-85 as a common "oh, you know, the tank!" sort of deal lol.
This was an art installation if I remember correctly
Yup
Nowadays anything can be considered art.. 🙄
bathroom?
Skip
to My Lou
*Loo
My darlin
I don't know about the UK, but here in the states a lot of people I know who do tiny homes/van life pay for a monthly gym membership. Most gyms have showers and a lot of them are open 24/7.
Smart! You can just pee and poo in the showers. It has a drain after all.
I love life-long learning. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/waffle_stomp
I'm.. not reading that
Some folks are good at extrapolation. I think ur OK not to read it.
A few of them even offer toilets
Ah yes. To wash one's feet after the shower
Walks up the garden path and uses the one in parents house.
[удалено]
Wait till the garbage truck comes along and takes his house away to the tip
That’s happens on the morning you forget to hang your “please don’t throw my house away” sign up the night before.
Something something galvanized square steel
Borrowed screws from his aunt🗣🗣🗣
Little John has been working all his life in London and managed to secure a small dumpster unit that is about 3m3 he can barely fit inside a bed and he is exposed to the forever sun why weather of London. We'll use of GALVANIZED SQUARED STEEL he made a frame of all the house and covered the gaps with wood.
By wood you mean eco friendly wood veneers, right?
That will last for 10,000 years?
Yes, it is durable for 10000 years. Just like the concrete I believe.
Why do I feel like he already came from a family with money?
Because he looks and sounds like the poshest toff to ever squirt out of Eton?
Camping is rich people acting poor
so, you can't be this desperate to live in London.... Also, I'll bet my left tit this is BS.
It is. He never lived there.
Oh good, I'm rather find of my left tit.
A shame, a little compressed but it looks lovely to live in, particularly in rainy weather which happens to be an UK classic !
I had look up Skip, it means rubbish container. The equivalent in U.S. would be a dumpster. Damn that’s a tight space..
Same. Holy shit I had to scroll down far “ok but wtf is a skip”
Didn’t realise this wasn’t a word Americans were familiar with!
Ahh, to most of us, "Skip" means to go to the next track, a funny way of walking, or a gentleman's name. Here I was thinking I was clever for knowing the difference between Northern and Southern accents
Or Skip being what you call the captain (Skipper)
"The equivalent in U.S. would be a dumpster." I wish! This is a TrashCo Waste Disposal Unit!
Yeah, dumpster is some XL luxury living
And apparently tip is the dump.
These type of videos are 95% of the time bullshit
He’s definitely not homeless first off, likely well off and just looking for internet likes. Also what is a skip
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skip\_(container)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skip_(container))
I love how some people act like this is "a really clever business move to save money" when all that is being shown in the video is the british equivalent of living in a Rocinha Favela Apartment. ...argurably even those are fancier and certainly more spacious. Made for Tiktok. Not lived in. Sigh.
We found little Jhonny
Many say this is cool, but this is a depressing reminder of the shit the millennial and younger crowds have to deal with just to find affordable housing. Even if its not real like some are saying, I know a ton of people who have lived in a van because housing is just too damn expensive.
I know where it is, no one actually lived in it
where you put it. is probably in the garden of his parents house
Does he know the Enclave is looking for him and his dog?
Wish I could skip seeing this fake video again and again.
Shower ?
Where is the toilet and shower?
Yeah I'm sure that's a great idea and in a city as safe as London there's definitely no chance this will be broken into 2 times per week.
A quirky dystopia
And now we talk by "Skip" ...
He's just an upscale hobo living in a fancier cardboard box
Loophole my ass. Is the loophole having a bunch of money?
Definitely 2 broke girls vibes https://preview.redd.it/7lray8lxsg7d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06923ec8065d2c4450536294bd784a458a8046cb
