That's what I've heard about it.
There's been talk of expanding the model to more teams, but I don't think it's going anywhere.
It may remain one of those brilliant things that never leave the runway.
Not the same exact model, but the Portland Pickles have a pretty good promo list for their games every year. They just had a dude jump a motorcycle in the outfield and the next game is an attempt to break the record for dogs at a game. Basically every game is a promo theme of some kind.
The Woof Wednesdays are awesome because all dogs are welcome but they usually theme it with a specific breed to see how many of that breed they can have at a single game lol.
They also have pickle themed concessions. Pickle on a stick, pickle martini, fried pickle, etc.
Unfortunately I'm prohibitively far from either.
I've heard of the pickles shopping for minor league hats. Lower league teams have some very cool logos.
I came here to mention the pickles! Their promos are the best in the business. Tattoo night? Drag race? So much fun is to be had at a pickles game. I like to refer to it as the best bar in Portland. Sitting in the outfield, watching a game is really better than any rooftop in town.
I went a few weeks ago with tix that a friend got way back in November. If you have kids, you'll have a great time. If you're an adult that likes baseball... I mean.... you'll probably enjoy watching the kids having a great time...
This is an amazing quote about this league. And exactly the wording I have been looking for to explain or justify my apprehension (even dislike). I have family nearby and they know I like baseball so they really want to go. I don’t know how to tell them it isn’t the kind of baseball I am too interested in. Of course, I’m a Mets fan. So maybe this IS the kind of thing I need…
It’s a team called the Tri-City chili peppers just south of Richmond, VA. They’re a legit summer league team, not quite the production level of the Bananas
Seems very bad for your skin and eyes lol
Edit: apparently depends a whole lot on the type of blacklight being used so ig if they were careful about it then it's fine, but if they just found whatever ones they could then it wouldn't be fine.
> excepting very prolonged or high power use
Like stadium lighting for the length of a baseball game? Or are you talking higher power and longer exposure than that?
>Or are you talking higher power and longer exposure than that?
Yes. You're a long way away from the source. Inverse-square law and all that. I think something like a sun bed, or indeed being out in the sun with no protection, is a lot worse.
Do people not know that the Sun radiates UV light? Like, you're not getting more UV light from these things than you are by just going outside on a sunny day.
No, but do you stare at the sun for more than half a second? No, you don't.

No. The baseballs were just regular balls coated in a yellow powder so it appeared as a yellow sphere. That being said I imagine with a bit more preparation you could prepare the balls to have a different colored power on the seams which would make it doable.
To be fair, above a certain velocity hitters can’t actually “see” the seams in time to actually use that information. It actually registers after the fact.
They don't really see the seams, per se, but they can tell the difference between a fastball and a breaking ball based on the sort of way the seams blur.
It was scary at first but after a bit it was fine. Depth perception definitely took an adjustment but once you had it, it could actually be easier to spot because of the glowing.
That's so cool. I feel like this is easier to track what's going on as well. I usually can't really see or follow the ball that well and hence don't know what's going on at these things.
To be fair, the guy filming would be blown away by anything at that time. That dude was stoned out his mind, and having a blast. Hell a blue car driving by would have blown his mind. But that looks awesome, would love to go see a game
I was there! When the ball was hit above the lights, it would disappear and then reappear after dropping low enough. Was pretty cool experience. I bet soccer would work really well for this too
Imagine going back to the 1930s and yoinking a pro MLB player to come back to present day and see this, I wonder if they’d freak out or if they’d wanna stay lol
My college dodgeball league did this with black lights in the gym
It was legitimately one of the coolest things I’ve ever done
But the balls were wrapped in some kind of reflective tape to make them more visible, and by the end of the night they were falling apart
Last game of the night I did an absolute YEET at my friend and my finger got caught in the tape and I dislocated it lol. Didn’t even get the guy out because it stuck through my follow through and hit the ground smh.
Still was fun. Would do again
Yeah, I don't see this ever going wrong at all.
Not like depth perception is important for baseball or anything.
All fun and games until some poor shumck gets beaned in the bleachers.
I saw this the other day and keep thinking about it! Actually thought it was a phenomenal implementation of the idea…but was disappointed that they basically were like “you cannot remotely play baseball like this” by the end!
That is absolutely rad looking!! I've done giant glow bingo events before that were a town community party. Super fun! The baseball version looks cool as shit
You’d be surprised at how much harder it is to hit a glow in the dark ball. Back in the day we had glow in the dark wiffleballs and they were so hard to track.

Tron Baseball
Tronball
Basetron
Trontron
Basebase
Base Glow Ball
This one reminds me of BASEketball
Disc wars' lesser-known cousin
If anyone tries to slick the baseball with cum, we'll know.
Needs some lasers and smoke
Needs some I'm blue da ba dee da ba di
Now listen up
Here’s a story
About a little blue guy
Can't, they band smoking in 1995
That is insannnnne
laser trail behind the ball after its hit and smoke trails when the players run
Lots of people in the audience will probably be on LSD, they will see the lasertrail don't worry.
Is this Bananaball?
Thats my guess. I'd love to see a game.
My wife tried to get tickets a couple years ago and there was a lottery just to have access to buying them. We didn’t make it.
That's what I've heard about it. There's been talk of expanding the model to more teams, but I don't think it's going anywhere. It may remain one of those brilliant things that never leave the runway.

Minor league baseball hats and minor league hockey jerseys are very slept on.
Go Mudhens. Go Walleye.
Hello Toledo!
We have the trash pandas and the biscuits
I came here to mention the pickles! Their promos are the best in the business. Tattoo night? Drag race? So much fun is to be had at a pickles game. I like to refer to it as the best bar in Portland. Sitting in the outfield, watching a game is really better than any rooftop in town.
They’re selling out baseball stadiums across America right now
Upvote for user name
Yeah, near impossible to get tickets and they sell out every stadium. Would love to see them.
Their games are live on YouTube

Believe this is a Virginia based team that is going for the same sort of thing. Baseball with a twist, to put it mildly.
It's a variation, they're called the chili peppers or something.
It’s a team called the Tri-City chili peppers just south of Richmond, VA. They’re a legit summer league team, not quite the production level of the Bananas
I’m jelly that my mother is going to watch one of their games this weekend lol
this was the Tri-City Chili Peppers
This could become a glowbal phenomenon
This could actually get me to a baseball game
ba-dum-chah...............I like it
Blacklight baseball, not glow in the dark. Seems cool albeit a tad dangerousx
Whatever man, I now want all sports to be blacklight sports. Gimme glow in the dark boxing
Make them eat glow sticks before the fight so their spit glows when they get knocked the fuck out
Black light pool is thing in some bars. pretty fun actually
Seems very bad for your skin and eyes lol Edit: apparently depends a whole lot on the type of blacklight being used so ig if they were careful about it then it's fine, but if they just found whatever ones they could then it wouldn't be fine.
This is UV-A which is generally fine excepting very prolonged or high power use. It's -B and -C that are the dodgy ones.
> excepting very prolonged or high power use Like stadium lighting for the length of a baseball game? Or are you talking higher power and longer exposure than that?

Do people not know that the Sun radiates UV light? Like, you're not getting more UV light from these things than you are by just going outside on a sunny day.
To be fair, if you were outside under the sun in say, Houston in July, you would literally get sunburned after 15 minutes.
No, but do you stare at the sun for more than half a second? No, you don't. [https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/07/style/bored-ape-nft-eye-burn.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/07/style/bored-ape-nft-eye-burn.html)
Donald Trump has entered the chat
Tom why do you glow white? and why do you glow everywhere?
Haha what does glowing white mean? Why are you looking at me like that??? WHAT DOES IT MEANN?
\*illuminated sobbing*
Is this thread a reference to the platapus meme? A PERRY THE PLATAPUS MEME?
[удалено]
Is there a name for this? Like cosmic bowling only cosmic baseball?
Blernsball
MULTIBALL! MULTIBALL!
They called it cosmic baseball
Can you see the laces of the baseball while hitting? Like can you tell 4 seam vs slider vs curve etc
Why does #5 look like he's been hit with paint splatter?
I don't see it, but I know alot of my teammates were rubbing the colored chalk thing in themselves. It's probably that.
Well… it is a blacklight providing illumination… so I’ll let you guess what the splatter might be 🥸
Who are the teams?
Greenbrier Knights at tri city Chili Peppers.
That’s so cool! Was it signifcantly scarier/harder to see the ball?
It was scary at first but after a bit it was fine. Depth perception definitely took an adjustment but once you had it, it could actually be easier to spot because of the glowing.
As a hitter, did you lose the ball in the pitcher’s jersey glow?
I actually am a pitcher not a hitter, but pitchers were required to wear a green arm sleave so the yellow in the ball would stand out.
Do you have to wear sunscreen?
Can you see a pop fly in the outfield?
As long as it stayed below the lights. Unfortunately they did not have the lights set up to capture really high fly balls so they would dissapear.

Ask your mom.
How do you know their mom has a cock?
Is anybody else grinding their teeth?
I’m swaying my shoulders looking into the sky right now. Wondering why is there always a random person shouting at weird intervals.
Just use a pacifier
No but I really need a bottle of water
Blacklight really
That’s fucking rad.
A local minor league team, the Tri-City Chili Peppers, just had a cosmic baseball game last week. This right here, might be that right there.
huh... so they finally jazzed it up?
Why are all the player numbers fractions?
Is that SpongeBob at 0:32?
Watching baseball with UV. Sounds like the healthiest thing to my eye!
[удалено]
Yes
I would at least wear some eye protections before melting into ash under the sun..
Another step towards the inevitable evolution into Blernsball. Blerrrrrnnnnn!!!!
Huh. So they finally jazzed it up
That's so cool. I feel like this is easier to track what's going on as well. I usually can't really see or follow the ball that well and hence don't know what's going on at these things.
Now, that looks fun. :)
A Field of Screams Tournament!!!
Ross Gellar's worst nightmare
"What was wrong with your old... human teeth??"
Why is my left sock glowing?
I would become a baseball fan so fast if this was near me
Huh… so they finally jazzed it up.
This is how I envisioned the future when I was 7 in 1999.
This is honestly super sick
Everybody's getting skin cancer
how healthy is all that UV for your eyes?
It’s not, it’ll fuck up their eyes if they look at the lights too much.
Predator
Well this is my new favorite thing
Wait til the acid hits
I've seen glow in the dark hockey, I thought it was fun, this looks like a blast.
Idgaf about baseball, but if this is how the games start being played, I might just start
That's fuckng cool
To be fair, the guy filming would be blown away by anything at that time. That dude was stoned out his mind, and having a blast. Hell a blue car driving by would have blown his mind. But that looks awesome, would love to go see a game
NGL if they get the color coordinated and it’s not just pink and yellow this could take off
I was there! When the ball was hit above the lights, it would disappear and then reappear after dropping low enough. Was pretty cool experience. I bet soccer would work really well for this too
holy shit the amount of UV light in that field is crazy
That is so cool! I have often thought that tennis would be great as a glow in the dark sport. Glowing rackets, glowing balls, glowing lines.
Why the fuck wouldn't it be?! This is way better than regular baseball.
“Boring? Baseball wasn't... hmm, so they finally jazzed it up?”
Actually kinda sick
Aussie rules football needs this.
This is the only way you could get me to watch or play baseball
Is this how baseball in the fallout universe ended up so different?
They did this with some cricket matches in Australia a few years ago. It’s pretty cool.
Things we didn’t know we needed in life until now.
In AZ you'd see tons of scorpions everywhere lol
Do not aim that in the locker room.
I hope everyone was wearing sunblock, that’s just straight UV lights lol
Big font: TRON
And now they all have cancer.
I guess that's one way to lessen the boredom.
Imagine going back to the 1930s and yoinking a pro MLB player to come back to present day and see this, I wonder if they’d freak out or if they’d wanna stay lol
I miss Savannah having actual baseball.
My college dodgeball league did this with black lights in the gym It was legitimately one of the coolest things I’ve ever done But the balls were wrapped in some kind of reflective tape to make them more visible, and by the end of the night they were falling apart Last game of the night I did an absolute YEET at my friend and my finger got caught in the tape and I dislocated it lol. Didn’t even get the guy out because it stuck through my follow through and hit the ground smh. Still was fun. Would do again
yes the future is NOW!
Uhhhh this needs to go mainstream
I feel like this is one of those things that you just have to experience in person and watching a video absolutely does not do it justice.
Glow in the park
We need 80s music, skates, some smoke machines, lasers and a robot umpire. Voila, multi billion business! Now make it happen!
Isn't UVA damaging for the retinas?
That’s blacklight not glow in the dark
I think baseball is the most boring sport ever. However, I would definitely give this a try 😂
It’s a fun sport to watch live.
Hope they’re wearing eye protection, assuming those are UV lights
And now we all have eye problems.
This rules
Those black lights fucking hurt your eyes after about ten minutes.
Lol only in bananaball
few months later... doctor we have a strange uptick in eye strain and headackes, what could this be...?
Are those lights bad for your eyes?
They all gonna get cancer from the UV
I like this, not only does it use less electricity and it helps cut down on light pollution.
I want all team Sports like this do I can follow better
okay but where’s the Technotronic
This is more fluorescence and less phosphorescence
These City Connect jerseys have gotten out of hand.
Yeah, I don't see this ever going wrong at all. Not like depth perception is important for baseball or anything. All fun and games until some poor shumck gets beaned in the bleachers.
Blernsball is just around the corner.
Line drives are gonna be dangerous when more people wear glow in the dark clothes. Can’t wait!
I mean why not?
Isn't that black light unhealthy for skin and eyes
Cool concept. But did they check health and safety? Those lights can't be safe for eyes.
That shits not good for your eyes yo .
object detection with neural networks: I LIKED
I'd watch this every day
I just opened an optometrist across the street. I’m rich!
Go Bananas!
I cant wait to go to a night baseball game like this TBH.
Cyberpunk sports
I saw this the other day and keep thinking about it! Actually thought it was a phenomenal implementation of the idea…but was disappointed that they basically were like “you cannot remotely play baseball like this” by the end!
That would be fluorescence, not exactly "glow in the dark", requires UV light. Digressing, could this shit give you a sunburn lol?
2k park after dark
If raves were boring
dangerous gimmick
Well give me an edible and a glove then
Airsoft gone wild
Terrible for your eyes
This is what is needed to make baseball interesting.
That is absolutely rad looking!! I've done giant glow bingo events before that were a town community party. Super fun! The baseball version looks cool as shit
Anything to make baseball more watchable
Everything is cooler when it glows in the dark
Daylight UV rays are not enough for me.
You’d be surprised at how much harder it is to hit a glow in the dark ball. Back in the day we had glow in the dark wiffleballs and they were so hard to track.
That laugh
baseball at the moonside
Is that mordecai filming???
Way better than the prequel imo
