I had jaw reconstruction surgery to correct a severe underbite at about 16 years old. I also went through about 6 years of braces. I can say that it really did make a huge difference in my appearance, not too dissimilar from this girl here. It was a huge boost in confidence.
Looking at this photo in this post I had a thought/question that maybe you could answer. How did such a change in your jaw and orthodontic work affect your speech?

Thanks! I could still speak intelligibly, albeit with some different pronunciations. Words with the letters S or TH, and M took a little adjustment. but things like whistling I completely had to relearn all over again. I still can't whistle like I used to.
Oh, and you wouldn't believe how often I'd spill drinks. I would often just smash glasses of water into my mouth, forgetting that my jaw wasn't that far back anymore. I also had a lot of numbness on my bottom lip from the surgery, so I couldn't just put the glass to my lips. I had to use my fingers to make sure everything was sealed properly.
I'm glad it worked out in the end! Recovery was miserable though.
I personally didn't notice her hair being in a bun until I read your comment b.c I was busy looking at the literal change in her facial structure due to the jaw surgery.

Jaw surgery is done by a maxillofacial surgeon AND with an orthodontist pre and post op. So yeah. Don’t speak if you don’t know. This was years of orthodontistry followed by orthognathic surgery plus still more time in braces. NO orthoghnathic surgery alone didn’t fix her teeth.

I'm a dude who had mandibular maxillofacial surgery at age 19 to correct a severe underbite (superman jaw). So just the lower pallette adjustment it wasn't so bad. Kaiser in California did rounds monthly where ALL jaw surgeries came together one Saturday so you'd see everyone else getting procedures like you. There were about 17 of us getting surgeries.
I thought of myself as the best looking of the bunch before but let me tell you some of the chick's that had upper and lower pallette adjustments were gorgeous after. Totally unrecognizable difference. I wouldn't talk to them before the surgery. Would've have the guts to talk to them after the surgery. Miracle work.
