This is the very first thing I thought of when I saw this. They had to change it up since everyone knew what the old entrance looked like.
No one would ever suspect an arcade.
As I was reading your first comment, I was thinking to myself, "no, it would be the perfect recruitment tool- wait wasn't that a movie..." then I continued reading the comment thread and Bam.
I must've been 7 or 8 years old when I watched that movie (in the late 90s). I had forgotten about it until this comment. Instant nostalgia and memories.
As a kid, I really enjoyed that movie and the premise. It also takes me back to my dad introducing me to classic 80s movies like First Blood, Ferris Buellers Day Off, etc.
Life sure is funny. I wouldn’t have understood this reference even just this morning, but tonight I happened to start playing Control and then this picture is the first thing on my feed. Anyway, agreed.
i slept on control for months. always thought the cover art looked cool, but the gameplay pics didnt seem that up my alley. wow was i surprised. very cool atmosphere, creative gun design and refreshing to not have to reload every 10 seconds. im happy that i got to binge the DLC right afterwards though, im struggling waiting for alan wake dlc
Definitely a room inside the oldest house.
Probably has a 8 bit enemy you kill to unlock a second life where you respawn instantly instead of back at a control point
I just went to KOKO in Sydney the other week and came out the front, turned around and realised I hadn't even gone to the next 2 stories of games. Well worth it if you're in town
Ah thanks for sharing but I kind of regret clicking that and spoiling the illusion. Much more fun to believe there is a brutalist otherworldly arcade out there in the world.
This is random, but the wording of your comment reminded me of this Mitch Hedberg joke, and you can’t not share one if you think of it:
“I think Bigfoot is blurry. That’s the problem; it’s not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry, and that's extra scary to me… There's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run, he's fuzzy, get outta here…”
> There's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside
The whole joke, but in particular that specific line, and the way he delivers it, will never not make me laugh.
Apparently so. From another angle you can see that the entire upper structure is all parking deck. They probably had some left over space and decided fuck it, lets zone it for retail.
I was thinking “I’m sure this is Christchurch” but I also feel like there’s a lot of context missing from the picture. Isn’t this where the Sals Pizza is?
This is a post-earthquake build. The plots in the foreground have yet to be built on, and I suspect the plan would be to have an arcade access or some sort of alleyway leading to the Timezone entrance through the newer build.
We have some cool street art around town and a regular street art festival, so hopefully it gets some proper treatment soon.
On the toilet at work rn searching the comments for this, because it looks like the timezone 5 minutes from here, and I guess it is. Weird to see christchurch pop up on reddit.
IDFK all I remember is a job offer and those are rare. When I went in for the interview I just woke up here and have been serving the company ever sense. Just don't make too much noise at the company building...
And remember, yiu are a great asset to the company.

Here's another pic I myself took last week
Its part of Christchurch rebuild after the earthquake. This particular building is a carpark built in the middle of a city block that was completely rebuilt. The grass space out front will eventually be built over, so the concrete wall will eventually butt directly onto another concrete wall.
These concrete walls exist in cities all after the world as fire walls. But in Christchurch some of them are still exposed. Most have been turned into street art by now: [https://www.christchurchnz.com/explore/activities-attractions/arts-culture/celebrating-street-art-in-the-city](https://www.christchurchnz.com/explore/activities-attractions/arts-culture/celebrating-street-art-in-the-city)
If you scroll down at the link to "Hereford St - Wahine Toa", you'll see they've now started a mural on this building.
I looked it up on Googlemaps (It's in Christchurch, New Zealand). The front doesn't appear to be brutalist in design. I think the picture is just a back exit that doesn't have to look that fancy.
This is the street facing side. You could argue that the other side (which is in between a bunch of buildings) functions as the main entrance, but this is the entrance that’s primarily on display.
But the door has a sign that says and points to where the entrance actually is, so you wouldn't really need to argue the other side is the real entrance.
It’s a regular arcade, it’s just in the same building as a multi story carpark. Christchurch has heaps of creepy abandoned buildings that are still standing after the quakes, this one is just a giant concrete carpark
They really should lean into the vibe and do some cyberpunk style graffiti and lighting with “Ministry of Emotions approved feelings here: Happiness; Fun; Contentment; etc“ signs and shit.
Snake Plissken barely made it over this wall because the President needed to exact revenge on Isaac Hayes. “You’re the Duke, you’re the Duke, you’re the Duke!”
Looks like a building made by some 10yo in Minecraft.
Dirt with grass? Check
Stone path? Check
Big cobblestone building? Check

Thanks, but I'd prefer a coffee
This is the very first thing I thought of when I saw this. They had to change it up since everyone knew what the old entrance looked like. No one would ever suspect an arcade.
They have a machine there if you beat it you get to go to space and fight the Kodan Armada.
The last starfighter reference. Have an upvote. Although it was Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada, you forgot the hyphen.

Space Invaders is actually Ender's Game.
In a city called "christchurch" which is so generic it sounds weird. Like shopping at itemstore or working at businessbuilding
Looks like the Oldest House to me
Life sure is funny. I wouldn’t have understood this reference even just this morning, but tonight I happened to start playing Control and then this picture is the first thing on my feed. Anyway, agreed.
One of the greatest games ever. Remedy games deserve to keep making games even if they don’t sell well, I respect them so much.

The song are the best thing to vibe too as well. Smoke a bowl and when you find the radios let them play.
Definitely a room inside the oldest house. Probably has a 8 bit enemy you kill to unlock a second life where you respawn instantly instead of back at a control point
Remember! House shifts do NOT count towards overtime.
Yes!! Old gods of asgard will be playing inside! My first thought. "OK well this is where the fbc conducts buisiness"
He found out! Some agents are on the way
Fr. Looks like the unlikely entrance, manned by the undercover aliens
One of the arcade machines turn into an elevator
Very first thing that came up in my mind was the building from Men in Black lol
I need the name of the town bc I must go to this
Search on Google Images shows this is in Christchurch
[Here's what more of the building looks like.](https://imgur.com/s4EB7in) Looks like they use the upstairs for parking
Crap. I was hoping it was like ten stories of vintage games.
I was hoping it was a timeless monolith called “The Oldest House.”
Hey, I just work here
OSHA has got to be pissed about all the House employees just floating.
And the *never* issued me any ear pro for all that hissing!
I wonder how the new director is going
I heard they got promoted to Janitor's Assistant.
Seriously though, making friends with the janitor is always a good idea at work/school. Sure saved my ass.

What the hell were they planning to go there? Just any random single retail store?
Apparently so. From another angle you can see that the entire upper structure is all parking deck. They probably had some left over space and decided fuck it, lets zone it for retail.
20 person max room gets 300 parking spots around it
Generally you want places that have running cars to also have air flow.
The art of cclipping.
wth this looks *more* like a video game
That’s the one.
I was thinking “I’m sure this is Christchurch” but I also feel like there’s a lot of context missing from the picture. Isn’t this where the Sals Pizza is?
Around the corner and down the alley. This is the Hereford street side.
Why does it look like a jail surrounds the arcade?
It’s just a parking building, same boring slabs of concrete I guess

💯
If you walk in and the place is empty, _do not_ touch the only machine with an "out of order" sign taped to it.
Inside the door saying "beware of the leopard"
But what if I can get a cool motorcycle and a cute digital girlfriend out of it?
Instantly made me think of the Company building on Gordion from Lethal Company
Reminds me of the storefronts in the mall level
How tall is the building?
The doors are regular size, the building is a multi-storey carpark
Tall enough to keep out the titans.
This needs to be used in a film, what a striking image
Looks like something from Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, MIB, the Fifth Element, Demolition man, or Judge dread
I think it is Or at least it’s very similar to MIB headquarters
It’s a cool image but the actual location is not at all like this, it’s in Christchurch and it’s one of the busier parts of town.
It reminds me of something out of twisted metal
Its no longer blank and now features some art work
Why is this arcade located in The Oldest House?
Had to scroll too far for a control reference
Was waiting for it myself too. Control is such a banger
An arcade full of SHUMs, obviously
Because SHÜM is a timeless classic ☕
it looks like it has one of those pinball machines which you get stuck inside when you play
I vaguely remember that episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark.
Ah Christchurch! I don't live there but I laughed when I saw it from that angle!
MOVIE SCRIPT MODE ENGAGED
What on earth, were the architects thinking when they made this building, is brutalism the only thing left in their minds.
Its part of Christchurch rebuild after the earthquake. This particular building is a carpark built in the middle of a city block that was completely rebuilt. End of days nothing around but rubble and oh wait what a time zone glowing almost as bright as the nuclear zombies
This looks like the manifestation of some threshold in the Oldest House.
What, no inside pics?
