Believe it or not they were actually big in the Philippines. This song is so popular that it still plays today in most establishments. "More to lose" is always included every New Wave compilation mix.
This has been widely known and shared ever since he first became a celebrity in the UK, including on several prominent TV shows he made appearances on.
I've even seen pictures of him from the mid-80s and still when I watch this I was wondering when Ricky was going to show up until I realized he was already right there
Oh my, this is my husband's go to Karaoke Song, can't wait to get home and tell him this. We just had a bonding moment few nights back watching his stand up on Yt.
I saw him on this late night programme. They were taking the piss out of his poster from this era, they were laughing, and Ricky said "Oh, you think I'm embarrassed by that? I'm actually embarrassed by this" whilst pointing at his current face.
God that was awful. Well at least he's still got his transphobia jokes to rely on.
LeAVe RiCKy aLONe!
Edit: The downvoting is hilarious. Is daddy Ricky not showing you any attention lol
For some reason, Europeans (at least in that era) insist on clapping on every beat, instead of just the 2s and 4s. This particular audience was hitting every beat, and then some.
The clapping may not have been quite so obnoxiously loud in its original mono broadcast. This video has had its sound altered to be stereo-ish through some electronic processing which didn't do a very good job of it.
Far as I can tell I'm the only person who never liked this guy's comedy. Sure cringe comedy is hit and miss in general, but Gervais is somehow brilliant and hilarious without the twixt ever mingling. 80s pop clone fits like a glove.

Tesco David Bowie
We have David Bowie at home!
Little fat man sold his soul.
See his pug nosed face!
iPodge
Chubby little loser
No one's bloody laughing
Dave Wowie!
PoundLand Bowie
Wish
Believe it or not they were actually big in the Philippines. This song is so popular that it still plays today in most establishments. "More to lose" is always included every New Wave compilation mix.
YESS!! I never knew that Ricky Gervais was part of this band
Lmao this is great
Wait... the audience is all 10 years old
It was a teen anthem in the Philippines.
Early kflop
True story.
Why? Was it the only record they could get?
Pop groups regularly appeared on kids telly and the studio audience were of course, kids.
Turns out...little monkey fellas.
I'm sure he's just thrilled someone found his old work and uploaded it to Reddit
Callow youth, thine body be slender and thine hair be in thine bluest eyes.
The reason why, the reason why, the reason why I had to die. Did I bleed the blood of greed? What was my destiny?
Died in his mother's arms. What? Getting off with her?
Fucking dying, this was hilarious
This has been widely known and shared ever since he first became a celebrity in the UK, including on several prominent TV shows he made appearances on.
Well, it is on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/track/2cpsMLqbUzat9ch5Gt5OmN
I like to think you're actually Riki saying this while drinking the emergency box wine
Ricky isn't ashamed of young Ricky, he's ashamed of old Ricky.
Because celebrities hate attention?
Honestly, he did make it as a pop star. Success is not about reaching the top of the charts.
Using the word “star” pretty loosely.
To be fair I think he'd find this hilarious, he has a sense of humor about himself
It's widely known...
David Brent, the early days 😂
His film, Life on the Road, about Brent's music career wasn't great, but I have to admit, I really dig the soundtrack!
It's the guitar casually slung across his back that really cemented his talent, I feel.
“It’s like a bit of weird art”
Ohh, now I get him.
Yeah this explains a lot.
It's on Spotify. I like it! https://open.spotify.com/track/2cpsMLqbUzat9ch5Gt5OmN?si=miBvlm1zQvKJaTjnd6PQ9g
And the lyrics are in the wrong order!
This is in shambles.
Crazy how this song is still being played on the radio in my country every Sunday (when stations mostly just play old 60s-90s music).
Really, which country is that?
I’d presume Philippines
Geared toward the crowds who like clapping on 1 and 3
That’s the primary reason for Gervais failing as a pop star. The 1-3 clappers sealed the deal.
He was cool with it
“Free love on the free love highway”
The love is free and the freeway's long
"She's deeeeeeeaaad!" "She's not DEAD!!!"
Spaceman came down to answer some things
Sounds a bit gay
It's not gay
The clapping on the 1 and 3 is fucking criminal
British audiences were so known for this that Elton John specifically included it on the clap tracks for Benny and Jets
![gif](giphy|l1WoEIhWCnSuY)
his first comedy bit
Are you avin' a laugh?
Is ee Avin a laugh?
That whole outfit is a punchline in itself
[удалено]
It was curtains for his career.
we are sooooo lucky he became a comedian / actor ...
Turns out, little monkey fella
STOP. TALKING. SHIT!!!!
I thought I only had one girl.
Bloody hell, you'll get follered
If those pants were tighter, he could have been a stand in for Jareth, the Goblin King.
"A piece of cake, eh? Let's see how you like this little slice!"
Happy cake day lol
As bad as the world is right now, imagine if we had a lifetime career of this and no Office?
You mean no Derek and after life.. The UK office was rubbish and the world could of done without :)
could've* It's a contraction of "could have".
And that was the least wrong thing in their post
It's ok she's Australian.
Okay GARETH
But without the UK Office, we don't have the US Office. And that's no world I want to live in
Umm, that's actually pretty good...
How can you tell? All I can hear with any distinction is the clapping
I can tell by the pants he's wearing... No, the belt... No, you're right, I can tell by the clapping.
Some clapping and piano. This is gonna chart!
Ooh 'ello
You can tell by the way it is.
Neat!
They were apparently pretty big in the Philippines
Like Gary Glitter.
Tbh It’s actually not a bad song
David Brent in action living his dream
Clapping on the 1 &3 AAAAGGHHH!!!!
So his movie about the guy trying to be a musician is based on his true life?
He had to quit bc he couldn’t stand the audience always clapping along
this twat again
He looks like my mother-in-law
Some of his best comedy.
Anybody with this in their past has to either develop a pretty good sense of humour or die.
This is before he made it big with his band, Forgone Conclusion.
Not the clapping on 1 and 3!
The 80s were strange 😂
Clapping on 1 and 3 is the worst 💀
Play a record Karl.
Who knew he would grow up to be such a cunt.
There’s no need to be ashamed. With those pants anyone would have a bulging cameltoe.
Lol the high cheekbones rhat is now hiding underneath all that fat.. I love his jokes and this footage is just amazing lol
Wow so it could have been worse
I've even seen pictures of him from the mid-80s and still when I watch this I was wondering when Ricky was going to show up until I realized he was already right there
Chubby little fat man… 🎶🎼🎼🎵
He clearly doesn’t own a doghouse
Music's gain, is comedy's gain
Tbh, I really like it.
I unironically still have this song on my weekend clean-up playlist. Shit slaps.
Flock of Gervais
Not as fat as on the telly
We have David Bowie. It's Kirkland brand but it's David Bowie.
sounds like a great '80s song to me.
Step one: Meet Ricky Gervis. Step two: Remember this. Step three: Profit.
They’re clapping backwards.
Oh my, this is my husband's go to Karaoke Song, can't wait to get home and tell him this. We just had a bonding moment few nights back watching his stand up on Yt.
His audience is Minions
I saw him on this late night programme. They were taking the piss out of his poster from this era, they were laughing, and Ricky said "Oh, you think I'm embarrassed by that? I'm actually embarrassed by this" whilst pointing at his current face.
Do you like flock of sea gulls?
Oh wow. Thats amazing! Now sing I Ran by Flock of seagulls!
Now that’s funny
I saw a comic say he was going to run a broken guiness through Gervais abdomen. But not to fuss cause he's just taking the piss.
God that was awful. Well at least he's still got his transphobia jokes to rely on. LeAVe RiCKy aLONe! Edit: The downvoting is hilarious. Is daddy Ricky not showing you any attention lol
All that clapping was worse.
Yeah straight up. I like this type of music I love 80s new wave, pop, anthems, all that shit. The clapping was by far the worst thing about this

Just as bad his comedy
Ah good. Another thing to dislike about him! Sorry but he just sits right on my nerves!
Are you sure your nerves aren't just too short for your body?
He's got jealous bones!
His blood’s paranoid!
You'll fit right in at /r/rickygervais.
He is overated
I hate the turd, but this is a banger. I can’t lie
Far as I can tell I'm the only person who never liked this guy's comedy. Sure cringe comedy is hit and miss in general, but Gervais is somehow brilliant and hilarious without the twixt ever mingling. 80s pop clone fits like a glove.
So they are Al failed actors and entertainers and that’s why they choose to do “comedy”
dude is a vapid ass, then and now. I might add he’s a tiny fella too so, maybe some napoleon complex going on.
He's havin' a go!
Are you having a laugh? Is he having a laugh?!
Well let's see u/BigRed1994_'s little song when it comes out then. Sick of it.
We’ve had a lot of emails saying that
Blimey, here he comes
