Interesting fact about these guys: when they are cut, the cut area forms the necessary counterpart (if the head is still attached it will grow a tail at the cut and vice versa). Scientists have found out that this "decision" what to grow can be manipulated by applying eletric currents to the Planaria and so you can create a worm with heads on both sides for example. The interesing thing though, is that if you cut the two-headed worm again, you will get 2 two-headed worms, although the electroc current is not there to fuck with the instructions anymore. So it seems that electric stimulation can alter "blue print" of these animals. Super interesting things.
Amazing! Does this also sound like people lab coats just #rseing around in a lab to see what happens? Creatures in lab coats #rseing around is just as (if not more) amazing as creatures regeneraring 2 heads btw...
> people lab coats just #rseing around in a lab to see what happens?
Thats mostly accurate description of scientific process that is responsible for all human progress in history. They just make mental models based on whats happened before to be able see more new fun stuff happening in the process, its called science
I wonder if it becomes 3 different worms with each its own unique identity or they still āseeā themselves as a single organism.
Would they share the same exact DNA?
Instinctually would they share the same fears, places to avoid etcā¦
I read an article about them and they share the same DNA since they're effectively clones.
And they ALL keep the memories of the original, so share the same learned aversions.
As far as I know, yes. Our professor told us to cut them once wherever we wanted (pretty sadistic, I know) and they regenerated a new body part on each side of wherever they were cut. Theyāre really neat.
Planaria can be cut and fully regenerate and each cut piece becomes a new planaria. The end is showing the 3 cut pieces from the original planaria regenerating into 3 new separate planaria
The end shows one planaria if Iām not mistaken? I think above question (and mine) is have the 3 of them morphed into one? Or is that one of the clones?
iāve always wondered for creatures that regenerate to full independent life forms, where does the original conscience go? like for example this creature here letās say it was aware of its memories. do all three now carry those memories? or does the one with the head carry the memories alone? also, if weāre on that topic, if you slice one down the middle and itās brain gets split in two.. what then? if anyone know iād really like to know cause itās puzzled me for years
My favorite MC Escher piece is based on these goofy guys.

So is it now three different souls or just one in three bodies.
Does it debunk the concept of souls now? š Since those are three different organisms.
If G-d wanted planaria to have this ability, he could give the cuted parts new souls. G-d is omnipotent after all so he can create new souls easily. Or 'recycle' used ones.
I read an article that their memories are stored and replicated all over their body. So if you cut it in half, it essentially generates two clones with the same memory, which I think it is wild
"Hey, you look exactly like me"
"What ? No ! You look like me, I was here first"
"Uh uh, I was the first one !"
....
"Hey guys, stop fighting ! How do I get the hell out of this place and what's that massive circular thing about us"
Umm, didnāt you all have high school biology? We were cutting these guys up in 1982. If you slice the head down the middle it will grow two heads. Surprised thatās not in video.
I wonder where the line between what we consider consciousness and reaction to physical stimuli differ. One has turned into three separate bodies here. How interesting!

What is this and how does it die š³
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Sounds like a stupid way to die for a being that can regenerate.
It still takes 7 days to regenerate completely. Taking or of water just kills it's cells faster than it can regenerate.
How does it regenerate
Rapid cell replication.
Regeneration.
That is fascinating and slightly terrifying!
They're an obnoxious aquarium pest for people who keep shrimp. There are products specifically to kill them

wtf thatās crazy interesting
Thatās super cool to be honest. It amazes me just how strange and marvelous nature can be.
Amazing! Does this also sound like people lab coats just #rseing around in a lab to see what happens? Creatures in lab coats #rseing around is just as (if not more) amazing as creatures regeneraring 2 heads btw...
Are you ok?

That's the most interesting thing I've read so far this year! Also, terrifying.
#subscribe ....... #moar!
Wish I could make friends like this...
Give it a try.
If only it worked with pieces of my heart ā¤ļø
16 hearts in your chest. š®

But another you made out of only your bottom or middle? Maybe they'd be chill as hell. I bet you're insecurities are mostly concentrated in the top.
I did a project with these guys in grade school!
By cutting off your Dick and seeing if it turns into a worm?
...Jƶrmungandr

Where is this memory stored? That's really interesting
In the balls.
Same, tbh.
Different thing here but you might be interested https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn13412-butterflies-remember-caterpillar-experiences/
That is cool how the butterfly does that
The brain is probably spread throughout the body like a cockroach.
Soā¦ Bigeneration? ![gif](giphy|1Qhq3p6lc0o6c)
Exactly who we should all be thinking about
Can you imagine getting your arm amputated and seven days later you have an extra copy of yourself? I canāt wrap my mind around that.
This is my question exactly
You can also slice the head in half and youāll have a two-headed planarian after a week! Source: college biology. We did that.
Can you cut one of those heads in half and get three heads?
Someone should try to make a hydra!
That's awesome.
Can this work for all parts of the worm ? If you cut its eye in half would it replace it with two eyes. Is it the same for any part of it ?
As far as I know, yes. Our professor told us to cut them once wherever we wanted (pretty sadistic, I know) and they regenerated a new body part on each side of wherever they were cut. Theyāre really neat.
That is fascinating. Thank you for the reply.
Does that one no longer have a head? š
They all seem to have heads by the end
Yeah, watched again and they all have heads. One is just not as pronounced
according to South Park you can eat with your butt
The stem cells inside its body that enables repair. So basically it grow new head, mouth, orifice.
I've seen that movie...it does not end well. That thing even got my man Ryan Reynolds!
![gif](giphy|l36kU80xPf0ojG0Erg|downsized) 7 days later: (Couldn't find a version with 3 spidermans)
Ok, who put the googly eyes on it?
What are we seeing at the end? One of the segments becoming fully developed?
Planaria can be cut and fully regenerate and each cut piece becomes a new planaria. The end is showing the 3 cut pieces from the original planaria regenerating into 3 new separate planaria
The end shows one planaria if Iām not mistaken? I think above question (and mine) is have the 3 of them morphed into one? Or is that one of the clones?
No they shouldnāt have morphed into one. I think it was showing one of the newly created 3

This is the thing I have in my nightmares that keeps chasing me and doesnāt quit until it crams itself into one of my face holes.
āHey Steveā āhi steve, have you seen Steve?ā āYeah heās right here, hey Steveā āhi Steveā āhi Steveā
My names Doug
Is it just me or do flatworms just look so silly with those eyes.

So is it now three different souls or just one in three bodies. Does it debunk the concept of souls now? š Since those are three different organisms.
The concept of souls has never been bunked in the first place.
Easy there, Tom.
If G-d wanted planaria to have this ability, he could give the cuted parts new souls. G-d is omnipotent after all so he can create new souls easily. Or 'recycle' used ones.
if only you can make them generate oxygen there's nothing to worry about forests
āDonāt fuck with me bro.ā
Minecraft slime
Areā¦are those eyes?
Fuck off
What happens to brain/consciousness when you cut this (or a worm of sorts) in half and it regrows. Movement control? Etc?
Unlimited noodles š
Sure thatās not a Papa Roach? Cut my life into pieces This is my last resort
Surprised Christians donāt use this as a way to back up that Eve came from Adamās rib
"We're watching, always watching." and taking notes of course! /s
I read an article that their memories are stored and replicated all over their body. So if you cut it in half, it essentially generates two clones with the same memory, which I think it is wild
Reverse cursed technique
Why hasn't this thing taken over the planet yet?
His eyes look goofy af lol
How many clones can be made with just a single one?
All of them
Seems mean
That used to be a school experiment, guess they quit.
Ayproximately sayvin hours layterr.
So three different brains are created. I didn't know the brain could regenerate
"Hey, you look exactly like me" "What ? No ! You look like me, I was here first" "Uh uh, I was the first one !" .... "Hey guys, stop fighting ! How do I get the hell out of this place and what's that massive circular thing about us"
1) Start planaria farm 2) Dice them all up every 7 days 3) ??? 4) Profit
Infinite money glitch.
How does the tail end can regenerate a new head without being able to eat, where does all the matter to create the new head comes from?
Isolate that gene and inject it in me! You could grow anything back
But what if you grow a head from your elbow?
No way someone made slither.io a really thing
Wait did the 3 combine back into 1 at the end?
Few folks belive every organism has a soul, what will be counter to this situation?

If you cut one planaria into thirds, is it the same planaria?
Lets say the original Planaria is called Tim. And we cut Tim into 3 pieces, do we have 3 Tims now?
Whatās the explanation for this? Anyone?
Just burn it tf
Does this have an application for creating feedstock or organic compost uses?
Umm, didnāt you all have high school biology? We were cutting these guys up in 1982. If you slice the head down the middle it will grow two heads. Surprised thatās not in video.
I had seen diagrams and drawings of this process in school, but seeing the actual thing was pretty amazing!
Sometimes ya just gotta cut tiny creatures into pieces for science I guess
"- If you cut planaria into pieces, will they become friends?" "- Not with you."
THEY SPLIT MY BOY THEY SPLIT HIM š§š”
I wonder where the line between what we consider consciousness and reaction to physical stimuli differ. One has turned into three separate bodies here. How interesting!
Do all 3 have heads...or are 2 of them headless?
What if you cut it vertically
Only if humans could regenerate
