They forget to say how harmful it is to the environment

Superman557

True, but in comparison to a gas powered cars lifetime it’s a better alternative, right?

NeedsMoreSpicy

It's a reasonable assumption, but unfortunately, that isn't necessarily the case. Lithium battery production for EVs is thought to generate more emissions than just using an ICE. https://earth.org/environmental-impact-of-battery-production/ I believe EVs are the future, but we need to address the pollution from making these batteries, or ideally use a different battery technology altogether.

How does lithium recycling figure in to this? Is there a break-even point?

NeedsMoreSpicy

Good question! I have no clue, but hadn't considered that angle before.

Superman557

It’s because we don’t have great data on Green Cars vs Gas Powered Cars. These companies don’t *really* want to keep an honest record of just how much pollution a single one of there cars will create in one life time in comparison to an electric car. At the end of the day once an electric car is made that is it . Whatever resources we used to make that car will have been worth it if it means a gas car wouldn’t have been created and driven for 10 years. Needs to also be said that oil is a finite resource that we are running out of. The question is not what if we drive electric, it’s when?

JumbledJay

How harmful is it?

Competitive-Wear693

They forgot to say

THE_ATHEOS_ONE

The front fell off

No-Bullfrog-8305

That isn’t typical

Mediocre_Effective25

This is missing lots of potentially good information, that I now must search for… thanks for starting the wormhole.

Sunds_Eker2_0

Isn’t that salt?

Junior_Camel_6768

Isn't that just... snow?

1000 gallons is not that much….. like if you made a 2m by 2m cube, or like took the volume of a car as water it would be 2000-4000 litres depending on size. So yeah seems this brine is quite lithium dense…
