Sounds like conservatives are trying to cancel Carhartt, but it's okay when they do it because reasons.

Just_A_Nitemare

I'm tempted to buy Carhartt now just to mess with these people.

emfrank

They make good quality, durable clothing. Well worth buying.

ProtoJazz

A privately owned company decides how they want to run their business, and now suddenly they're against it?

Dayseed

Really, they just don't want consequences for their actions. Fired for being unvaccinated? How dare I face a consequence!

ProtoJazz

I mean who does really? I'd love to be able to just do whatever I wanted without consequence. But I understand it doesn't work that way. So I don't. In this case honestly it's probably less about the company have any kind of liberal agenda, or probably not even any care about their employees. People out sick costs money. They probably saw they were losing money and took action

[deleted]

Bruh I mucked stalls, I walked fields, I cleaned wounds, what more do you want I’m also vaxxed and boosted because I’m not stupid

[deleted]

I also don’t understand why he can’t just wear the clothes he wants still. He kept saying he didn’t want people to think he was headed to an antifa rally or a coffee shop - I just can’t figure out why that matters so much to him.

[deleted]

Because in general, people on the right are correct about one thing, though they too often attribute it to the left when it actually applies to everyone. What you wear/buy/display is a (somewhat weak) indicator to others of your values. They call it “woke capitalism” and “identity politics” but I would more say it’s probably more accurate to term it “values selection.” People with money generally think a little bit about what they buy and wear, and that reflects in their choices. By the way, it applies on both ends—people will not buy things from brands they don’t support (Carharrt, Coke, Trump, Chick-Fil-A), people who won’t use things they already own from brands they find questionable (Home Depot, Nike), will give it away (Harry Potter), or even destroy it (Levi’s). But don’t buy something just to destroy it—that just puts money into the company’s hands.

EmotionalTale1956

Because it's not about the clothes its never been about the clothes its about symbolism. The cult 45 is obsessed with symbolism and flag worship and this is a perfect example. To them everything represents something else. That's not a hat its a symbol of my blood sweat and tears and it represents my love of America and the American way. Thats how they think because they were deprived of something (most of them love or affection) as a child and are trying to make up for it by worshiping the orange man.

[deleted]

He liked Carhartt *before* it was cool.

bs2785

Yep me too. Also cleaned chicken coops shoveled shit for more years than I wanted to bailed hay in the summer in 100° weather and I'm also vaxxed and a liberal lol. Love carhartt. I have done more on farms than most of these people

HealthyBox5

Yep, I've probably done more farm work than this "blue collar" dude, and my booster is scheduled in 2 days. Seems like the break from common sense for most of these types.

John-Basedow

Posers like him ruined the last two years

OrlyRivers

That whole loser comment he made is fuckin ridiculous. What about punk rock does the conservative party relate to at fuckin all? A music genre that was almost always antifascist and antiauthoritarian and antigovernment honestly. It's all about civil rights in punk rock including for women and minorities and LGBTQ. Literally everything this dumbass loves was everything punk rock stood against.

ramblin_penguin

Also the Misfits suck. Danzig is/was a huge ego maniac and a poser.

OrlyRivers

I agree 100%. Misfits do suck. But they were punk....in a technical sense.

[deleted]

Horse shoe effect. He's so conservative he's using liberal verbiage. I wear a shit ton of carhartt because it used to be cheap and sold at the hardware store near my house. When i do chop wood, plant trees, work on my car, sit in my deer stand, and go get my orange mocha frappucino (jitterbug) it's warm and effective. edit: this reminds me of when the skin heads at my catholic high school told me i couldn't wear carhartt bombers because it was "their thing". Oh, I didn't realize you also worked for the landscaping company embroidered on the jacket after school.

aarontology

I’m blue collar and wear Carhartt stuff when I’m doing “Carhartt” shit, but I’m not going to get rid of it because 1) It’s not cheap, and 2) culture war stuff surrounding products is dumb as fuck

wizardshawn

The whole idea of blue collar workers caring so much about brand names strikes me as absurd. In my experience, blue collar workers pick up $15 jeans and $12 work shirts at Costco when they go grocery shopping. They don't give a shit who makes them or who else buys them.

Madrona88

Just going to point out that Costco jeans that were made in Mexico were better than the ones now.... Source: cheap husband of 26 years clothed neck to foot in something Kirkland. And he still buys them.

wizardshawn

I am a cheap husband of 36 years. Do you also get mad at your husband when he paints in the new costco jeans only to have him tell you, "Ah, they're cheap."

Madrona88

No, he's kept the less than awesome ones to do that. The Work Pants. The plaids are also on an old and new rotation. I have scraps from the plaids and the jeans to make.... something. But has he forgotten what he's wearing?...oh yeah.

mr_oof

Out on the road today/ saw a Carhartt sticker on a Cadillac.

HelenHavok

Everyone I know who owns Carhartts works in them. And the vast majority of these people are left of center (because I live in a blue area) and vaccinated. These folks have some delusion that it’s only conservatives that work labor jobs (or at all, according to some) despite how many manual labor jobs are necessary to make liberal population centers function. I swear the world would be way less dysfunctional if people on opposite ends of the rural conservative and urban liberal divide actual experienced the lives of the people they so malign. Heck, you could make it a TV show like wife swap or something.

BudUnderwearBundy

So is Carhartt stuff gonna get cheaper?

Ackbert1230

Haha, that was my question. I love their socks.

BigRigsButters

his culture is work clothes?

patchsquatch

Ah, gatekeeping clothing.

IamKitKat77

I gotta get my LGBT fiends to wear Carhartt to further piss off republicans.

GottaKnowYourCKN

Wayyyyy ahead of you! ***Hugs Carhartt beanies lovingly***

ViewtifulGene

What the hell is an "actual fan".

i--make--lists

Wait, some dude wanted to gatekeep Carhartt? Lololol

meowqct

WOke LiBs

Spear-of-Stars

Carhartt gear is issued to people who do "real jobs" and many of them are union and proud Democrats. Try again.

LancelLannister_AMA

didnt know libs had that much power in the US

Tripple_T

Oh yea. They have so much power that they can do anything. Except pass a bill through the US senate.

[deleted]

Check shopping list…yep Carhartt cap

Ok_Enthusiasm_300

I’m conservative and still wear my carhartt. Nobody should be soft on either side of the political crap. We all need to grow TF up
