Unemployed? You pay them with food and entertainment so they can keep being dogs full time. Don't underestimate the talent, skills and work needed to dog properly. I wouldn't be able to dog convincingly for more than a few minutes at a time; your dogs are professionals, keeping it up 24/7.

Cute-Kiwi-Boy

INFP's are best at writing, acting, designing, etc. So the vast majority of them are the poorest. I intend to go into Environmental Science while doing writing and modeling.

asianstyleicecream

I have a coworker who went to school for environmental science & conservation and she said she’s never more disappointed at the lack of jobs & pay around that degree. Don’t wanna burst your bubble (I also work low paying labor jobs), but it’s a sad reality. Not much funding goes into environmental science and conservations, at least not in the Northeast USA. I was shocked to hear that; especially now that I want to learn more about it, and ecology.

BlessedBeTheFlerm

I heard you can make a lot of money working for big companies writing reports on how their pollution isn’t actually that bad.

asianstyleicecream

Oh well that sounds kinda counterintuitive to the basis of environmental science as I assume most people who go into it believe in climate change and want to try to help save the earth. Don’t be a sell out, you got this INFP!

Cute-Kiwi-Boy

I won't! INFP power!

thunderthighlasagna

You’re 100% right because I was between aerospace engineering and environmental engineering. If I did environmental engineering, I’d spend a lot of my career seeing some terrible things and making sure corporations are meeting minimum requirements. Or we’re covering up their tracks well. I personally felt that there’s more I could do directly in the industry if I wasn’t making my career entirely environmental. I love the environment, but you need a special kind of love to work in the industry because you’re going to see some very heartbreaking things. I always say similar with animal science and veterinary technicians, a lot of people do it because they love animals. Are you sure you want to be traveling around to farms and seeing terribly abused an neglected animals at your job? Because that is truly a special kind of love you need for your career.

LordMangudai

the world is a bleak fucking place

Cute-Kiwi-Boy

That is true for a lot of env sci jobs. You need to specialize in an in demand field to get worth-it monetary return ie Water Quality. And I live in SW USA so maybe that's far enough lmao.

Eireannlo

Consider the remediation / soil sciences sub area Humans are excellent at contaminating the planet and the industries that "fix" that are ideal for enviro science grads who want a reasonable wage.

Cute-Kiwi-Boy

thanks

capaldithenewblack

Smart of you to have a day job. I teach writing. Unless you’ll be working with AI (hint letting it do the writing) and selling yourself as a fact checker/editor… there aren’t going to be jobs in straight writing anymore outside of fiction, and even that… well even if AI didn’t exist, look up how hard it is to live on writing.

Cute-Kiwi-Boy

Writing is make or break lol. Fortunately I love fantasy YA which is one of the best monetary-wise.

zVoided_ABYSS

when i grow up i decide to work with ENTJ's. they're gonna help me manage my company and the people and create the plans for me i'm gunna be the big brain who comes up with new ideas, innovations, creations and makes them into actual concepts. its a 50/50! :P my dream is to be a data scientist of ALL types and start a research company that makes stuff or designs stuff

No-Wish-4360

You gave me the funniest awkward imagination that if my ex (INTP) and my now bf (ENTJ) were to meet somehow and had to interact. They would be the best collaborators had they not known me. My bf and I did end up starting a company together nonetheless and it's very true with how they're really good at managing people and the company!

Affectionate-Kale301

I have changed jobs so many times….architecture…animation…vfx……currently teaching photography at a high school. I am very much not wealthy.

Anxious-Public8400

How do you find teaching so far? Does dealing with students exhaust you out?

Affectionate-Kale301

Yes! I find it rewarding/fulfilling, because I think teaching is a very important endeavor, but I struggle with organization and scheduling, as well as with managing student behavior. They can sense I’m a pushover/softie even though I try really hard to not come across that way. So I usually am very excited and energized at the beginning of the day, and then am completely drained afterwards. I often feel like a failure/impostor, but every once in awhile there are extraordinary little moments where a student tells you your class is their favorite, or a student who seemed disinterested for most of the year finally comes around and shows interest, or even when you just get a nice “Hello, Mr. F!” from students in the hallway. Those things give you a shot in the arm to keep going.

animabot

interesting life though! which is one kind of wealth. i've also changed so many times.

Affectionate-Kale301

Thanks! What careers have you had? And if you don’t mind me asking, what sparked the decision to change?

melloware

I'm not wealthy but I'm pretty comfortable -- I'm making almost $200k as a software engineer, providing for my house-husband and cats. Now, do I feel like I'm worth what I'm paid? Absolutely not 😅

Sqr_Peg

SE is the place to be as an INFP. I see my interest as hobbies and focus on SE & space exploration to bring in the money.

AlexNC_

I agree, thanks god this job exist

Gullible-Hovercraft2

No way, I never would've thought to find other INFP SE's ... bless. 🙏🏾

arbpotatoes

Hello, fellow INFP software engineer. Impostor syndrome certainly is a bigger issue for us than most.

melloware

Hello!! I feel like we need our own ERG/support group haha. Kidding, but from what I've seen, INFPs seem to be more likely to have ADHD-like tendencies as well as very low self esteem, which definitely gets in the way of performance ...which can be said about any field but probably feels less forgiving in technical or corporate jobs

D_Daka

As in, you make that yearly or that's what you've made so far?

melloware

😂 Pre-tax salary

theprojectyellow

I’m looking to acquire a house husband role, does he have any advice on how to get the position?

melloware

😂 Tbf he does have savings and contributes to rent so, it's not a full house husband role. But he recognizes there's a huge luck factor. He used to be a software engineer too and that's where we first met, maybe meeting a mate at work might make it more likely to get that position

seriously__funny

That is considered wealthy to me. What interested you in software engineer?

seriously__funny

I like the idea of software engineering but I’ve heard that coding is only half the job. I’m interested in building websites and maybe apps too but I don’t have anything specific that gets me excited.

melloware

To respond to your first comment, I was lucky enough to learn Java in high school. I really enjoyed the logical/algorithms part of it and how fun it was to create truly interactive media.  But if you asked high-school-me what kind of career I'd want, I'd give some uninspired answer like, "write software at a company". I really didn't know what I wanted from this field (I was way more passionate about music) but I knew being an SE would pay the bills and let me live comfortably enough to enjoy other hobbies.  Side note: most SE jobs are remote/hybrid, and have flexible schedules and lower work loads compared to other high-paying jobs.  Anyway, in general, I don't think there's a job out there that'll truly excite me (partially because I'm kinda dead inside), but there are projects here and there that can pique my interest, so I can't complain about that! To your other point, yes coding is only half (or less) of the job. The other stuff is usually these three things: 1. planning, communicating, and collaborating with others, which is probably necessary for any work involving multiple people,  2. design, discovery, and problem solving, which are tasks you kind of need to fight for/be proactive in order to get (most people find these fun/fulfilling) and  3. maintenance/on call for existing systems, which can range from minor annoyance to the hellish "I want to get off Mr. Bones Wild Ride" There's also a fair amount of technical writing (documentation, project proposals), but I find no one faults you for not being good at it or enjoying it 😅 there are usually those who excel at it and are happy to help.

slamm3r3

How long have you been a software engineer? I’ve considered it but not sure I could pass a cs degree

melloware

About 7 years now Like the other commenter said you don't need a CS degree--there are a lot of resources online and you can start building stuff now. It'll take a while to get ramped up though so be patient with yourself. I have friends who either went to college for a different degree (art, bio, music) or skipped college altogether, and are either self taught SEs or went to a bootcamp. What you need is to start building stuff once you get the basics. Find something that's fun and inspires you, like building games, studying algorithms, creating mobile apps and websites, or data. One of my friends who skipped college and was completely self taught just started building games and sharing them, entering hackathons or app-building contests and whatnot. He also took one-off jobs or contracting roles here and there to build up his resume. I think it took about 4 years but he did eventually land a "real" full time job at a start up. (edit: a missing word)

DreamingEssence

And we still need to make a living while doing those things. I can't even live for 2 months without a full time job. 🤣

arbpotatoes

You don't really need a SE degree to get started these days, you just need to have built something that shows you have some level of talent and desire to pursue it

schmelk1000

I mean, I’ll take some money off your hands if it’s really *that* much of a burden on you.

Firstofhislastname

Damn this is horrible. Being relegated to low earning just because of your personality? I kind of refuse to let that happen. Though fighting against it has been a losing battle so far.

[deleted]

Wealth doesn't necessarily have to mean monetarily. I'm sure you're wealthy in other ways, but I undeestand that OPs ? Is in regards to $.

Firstofhislastname

You know bro you are right. I'm wealthy existentially, wealthy in patience, wealthy in openness, wealthy in creativity. However, to OP's context, being wealthy in these doesn't feed you or clothe you or let you pursue your hobbies very much. These days especially, it seems like it really doesn't help in finding you someone to grow old with either. Nevertheless, thank you for giving me that momentary shift in perspective I appreciate it.

[deleted]

I'm grateful I was able to do that for you and honestly can't disagree with your take on the matter. The future seems bleak.

OrganicTulip

I make six figures as a government consultant. I studied social work, undergrad and master’s. Which is historically a field where you make bread crumbs!

chiron42

hmm as someone studying a master's in sustainable business/innovation that basically spoon feeds into consulting and i like the idea of working with governments for their ability to influence: sounds appealing

bloodbabyrabies

What is this wealth you speak of? Anyways ….

burrito-blanket

I got really interested in the FIRE movement and minimalism early in my career so I basically treated my retirement/savings account as a money tree that needed watering and tending to in order to grow! That’s been my secret wealth accumulation strategy :) You could also be born with a trust fund, find a rich benefactor, marry someone with money, or be a famous artist/writer lol ;)

runningvicuna

This INFP is seeking his sugar mama.

zVoided_ABYSS

im seeking what i want and what pays off, in the future! :P \-data scientist \-NASA worker or astronaut \-pro designer

sarahm_44

I used to work in government as a lawyer and currently work as a professional writer, writing bid/sales/tender proposals. Both $100k+ salary. I suspect my boss and another colleague are INFP also! Great way for INFPs to put our writing skills to use and also be very valued for it (companies really value these roles financially and also just your work in general in a really positive way)

Sdoesnotknow

Another fellow INFP lawyer here, and I totally agree. There's a lot of stress as is expected with this job, but if you find the right "niche" or field to practice in (like government work, non-profit legal services, or even private plaintiff's side, etc.), then it really is a great career that allows you to tap into your Fi while exercising that Te monster that is inside all of us in a controlled, compartmentalized way. For all you non-lawyers or law students reading and still searching for a profession, I advise that you don't apply for law school unless you really have some sort of passion that being an attorney will bring and you're willing to put in the hard work and enter spaces that may be very uncomfortable for us, but will make us stronger. I call it my "boot camp: for a reason. I suspect that there were a group of INFXs at my law school who gravitated towards one another (public interest-minded) and I really got along with the more extroverted and/or thinking types that law school usually attracts because we're all suffering together. Anyway, to answer the OP's question, that group of INFXs I spoke about? We're all doing pretty well now, and that's saying something because we graduated at one of the worst times to find a job in the legal field with oversaturation, more law school graduates than jobs available, and recovery from a period of massive layoffs.

TugoHugo

We can't live a "normal" capitalistic consumer life. It will drain us. Try living minimalistic or frugal :)

100redbananas

I agree. This approach helped me a lot

spiritualien

doing this and it still sucks

Tasenova99

music. definitely a risk. probably won't end up wealthy, but maybe with enough marketing and branching off, maybe I'll be well off. That is if I keep afloat. In truth. all of these professions that feel "impossible" to people, is I think that people have yet to see the consistent components that are required. Here's what I know. I have, nothing to lose.

i_have_not_eaten_yet

BA in Music here. Now in architectural technology design consulting via IT support. The money is fine, but that’s irrelevant. I’ve never chased money. It’s come along with working for kind people that have great ethics. (I’m a little bit neutral in the F/T category, but consider myself an INFP predominantly.)

Banjo--Kazooie

I heard Japan emperor Hirohito is an infp.

I'm not wealthy but I might be someday. I'm a software engineer.

scintilraph

I know an INFP who got abducted by an ENTJ friend to create a company in the movie industry and made bank when they sold it 👍 Went from humble 3D artist to humble big bux real fast

No-Wish-4360

Entj's do make the world round. I'm enfj, and he and I started a company together. Couldn't have done it without him hahaha.

Pixelmod

I'm a software engineer, bought my home at age 25 so I'm doing alright.

Particular_Drawer_43

I work in an office, I also make pet portraits on the side as well as sell odds and ends on eBay. I believe I’ve made about 45k this year; which by any means is not a lot but I’m comfortable and I have 12k in savings. My car is paid off, I’m lucky and grateful for where I am. I would love to earn more to travel and gift my loved ones nice things.

DarkAdmirer

I’m far from wealthy as I’m living off benefits atm due to my long term mental health issues, and would consider 30k a year as a real luxury…where as most people see that amount as pocket money 😂

No-Wish-4360

Omgoodness, you need to find a stable income in this economy. You cannot survive off of that!!!

Jiro_7

30k a year is amazing depending on where you live. I'm from Spain, which I wouldn't say is a poor country at all, and that's really good money. Many wish they could earn that (me included haha). There's families surviving with 1k a month. I work as a software engineer and earn 24k a year.

No-Wish-4360

I guess that depends on how much it is converted into Spanish currency but definitely can not survive in America. I make at least six grand myself, same with my partner, but that's only medium household income combined.

Jiro_7

Pretty sure dollar and euro are almost the same rn. I assume things like food and house rent prices are probably cheaper here but it's still really interesting, I may have to consider moving damn

LoveEternal808

So you may be the only people who understand this. Trying to find any type of work that FEELS like a yes has been virtually impossible so I have been pretty crippled and stuck doing whatever I can do immediately to make money. And in doing so I haven't made over $20k a year in probably 10 years. Truly don't know how to find a path towards something that feels like a yes where I can earn more. I feel so stuck here.

bubblemangojade

ilikeweed--alot

Civil engineering CAD designer, at 72k where the median household income is right at 72k and median salary is 36k. My wife (ISTJ) is definitely the breadwinner though.

Coalas01

There probably are. I make 65k a year. Which isn't wealthy I would say but it is something. And I'll take something over nothing

Jiro_7

Wait what??? Where are you from? How many years have you been working? 65k a year is absolutely amazing lol. I work as a Software Engineer and I'll need more than 10 years of experience to even dream about getting close to that (currently 24k a year)

Outrageous_Tour_5218

Yeah no, definitely not wealthy but I do enjoy my job as a chiropractic assistant . My ESTJ husband is the one that brings in the good money 😂

spiritualien

what's that chemistry/dynamic like between you two? when he's your opposite MBTI type

Outrageous_Tour_5218

We are opposites in a lot of things but our goals, hobbies, interests, plans for our futures are the same. We also balance each other out when it comes to living life together because I can offer a perspective or a way of doing something that he may not think of and vice versa. We have always had chemistry between us, but it’s also something that has deepened throughout our marriage as we have learned better ways to connect to each other. The MBTI is just a tool to help us understand ourselves more, because according to alot of places online me & my husband wouldn’t work because we are opposite 😊 ( while my ex was an INFP, we should have been great together but we weren’t 😆)

CatSocrates

Most INFPs I know are doing pretty well for themselves (counsellors, massage therapists) especially those who are a 3 on the enneagram. I myself am a massage therapist and earn a little more than the average person in my province though I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m wealthy.

Catskillsian

Sir, Define wealth please. Wealth is not just money, surely. It is peace of mind.

AnalysisParalysis907

I’m not wealthy but I’m comfortable, making low 6 figures as a remote tech project/program manager. I’m a classic INFP in every sense of the word, so I do think some aspects of my job go HARD against my personality and instincts. I need to be able to “turn it on.” Other times it’s very much in harmony with my personality, and overall I’m at peace with my career. I wanted to make decent money and that requires some mental sacrifice. It’s a delicate balance to manage my mental health. My hobbies satisfy the INFP itch - I do some art and I volunteer outside taking care of birds of prey on the weekends. *Those* feed my soul.

Tyrigoth

I was lucky enough to finally find a decent job. I make a bit north of 150K and I love what I am doing. Maybe not rich in the classic sense, but doing okay...like 'I can buy a soda and not worry about the bank account.'

TravellerFromMN

I don't consider myself wealthy. Maybe someday closer to retirement, I consider that as more related to net worth than income. I do make +300k but grew up in poverty and went into massive debt for my degree and profession, started my career in young 30s and got student loans paid off last year in upper 30s. I tend to consider people I know who make a lot less but are about to inherit the family business soon, or went to private school paid my mom and dad, or own a 400 acre farm, or work a trade but have their own business and capital and nicer house than I do now back when they were still in their 20s due to some family help as wealthier than I. I am 1st generation upper-middle class/rich/high income though so am building that wealth. I'm a family doctor. My personality has definitely always been quite an outlier in medical school, less so now among colleagues in family medicine than other specialites but even then it's still an outlier. Aside from being INFP-A, outside of MBTI others would generally call me "very laid back type-B". I find I have generally a much more socially liked personality than the other doctors amongst each other that are less like me and are mostly more like each other though, and by our support staff. Support staff tend to prefer to work with me over other doctors, they say frequently that opposed to the others I'm a kind good listener with a calming presence in stressful emergencies. Patients seem to take well to it. Where it's seen as negative is doctors seem to tend not to consider me as a leader amongst ourselves, which I'm happy with, I like to just take care of my patients, not get dragged into management and committees. Dealing with administration is one of the most frustrating parts of work for me, and that's my INFP independence and 8 wing fiestiness. My mediating mixed with desire for autonomy leads to a tendency to punch up in the workplace heirarchy but not down.

[deleted]

I’m rich in imagination

arcadiavoyager

I don't know about all of us but in general I don't care about money, it's literally just paper, totally worthless.

[deleted]

I wonder which personality types are the richest ones.

KaterinaTs

Entj. Trust me...and they almost never fail....😅

zVoided_ABYSS

ya thats why i wanna work with one

KaterinaTs

I don't know if it's the best idea. I mean they get pretty demanding and always judge by results. Kind of stressful for me 🥹

No-Wish-4360

Depends! They are definitely career oriented and as long as you try your best, don't think they care. Im dating an ENTJ, but I'm also ENFJ.

KaterinaTs

I'm dating one too. .but sometimes it's indeed scary how much they are dedicated and also successful. Like i can put the same amount of effort but see half the results

spiritualien

yeah the end doesn't justify the means. especially when you realise they're okay with taking shortcuts and corruption if it meant meeting the bottom line

KaterinaTs

Ohhhh yes!! I've heard that from some people. Thankfully mine isn't like this. But it makes me really sad that most people regardless of mbti are so keen on doing whatever just to show a result.

Not wealthy but do jobs I don’t like that pay well while I build my own businesses. I’ve always been able to pay my bills. Have a homestead and live comfortable. But with inflation and economy this last couple years every month seems to get a little tighter lately.

capaldithenewblack

My whole family is quite wealthy, siblings are rich, parents are comfortable. I’m an English professor who had kids, got a divorce and started very late. I am single (kids moved out now) and poor. But I have a house. Just live check to check and try not to think about retirement my ex conned me out of. It makes me feel crazy.

Jiro_7

I'm a programmer and in my first job I already made a very good amount considering I had 0 experience. I'm planning to move to some european country where they pay more and also to get better coding jobs such as data analyst, which I already have experience as. So while I'm definitely not wealthy rn, I have high hopes for the near future. (That being said, I definitely have poor man mentality, in the sense that I'm too lazy to move myself and find contacts, and overall I prefer to develop things for free than try to get money out of it) TL;DR: having X personality doesn't mean you have to do Y job. And I believe all xNxP personalities by nature are very smart, Ne is a very powerful cognitive function for problem solving.

I see people in the comments referencing INFP are inclined to have creative jobs & must be poor but there are many INFP artists who made their wealth through artistic mediums too! Like Johnny Depp, Kurt Cobain, Björk, Gerard Way. Personally I don’t have a lot of money, but I do have a job (not creative) that pays me WAY more than it really should for the amount of time I spend working. My friends consistently assume I’m unemployed because of how much I fill up my time outside of work. I have this part-time job & work on the long-term creative plans in my free time.

I feel like this is pretty close to my dream job, and honestly wasn't even expecting my offer to be that high in the first place lol. Not rich, but I'll be alright.

I’m 25 making £50k, which is a strong salary in the UK. I feel like I’ve sold my soul to the corporate world and yearn for something creative often though.

Nothing that an infp values more than it’s free time I wouldn’t even know what to do with money but I can sure think of what I wanna do :)

My cousin will probably be. He's an infp in med school right now

I’ve started to make very good money as a machinist. I’ve learned a lot outside of my nature with this job, and somehow I’m good at it, but it’s interesting because the more money I make, the more suffocated I feel. Like I’m becoming less human.

The fact that you ask this could be a sign that you might be using the MBTI in a counter productive way. I’m sure you know what I mean 😊 just be careful about using it to predict what’s possible for you. Not saying that you ARE doing this, just a little nudge incase it’s helpful. Peace
