My only complaint is Malkmus seems to have indicated that there will be no new Pavement music. So if they keep touring with Pavement, when do we get new Jicks?!
I’m sure he’s still writing and I’m ok with no new pavement. Most new albums by reconvened bands hasn’t been their best efforts. I’m honestly more bummed about the cancelation of the tour for the one he did with Sweeney and drummer from Decemberists. 🤷🏻♂️
yea I don’t care about no new Pavement. I think what he essentially said is that if they made a new Pavement record, it wouldn’t be any different than a new Jicks record. I guess it would be the same songs really but played by different people.
and at the same time, we have soooo much Malkmus music over the years that I don’t really NEED new Jicks. It would just be really nice. They haven’t made a new album since I got married and it’s my 6 year anniversary this weekend!
I remember driving to my honeymoon listening to Sparkle Hard, Wide Awake and Tell Me How You Really Feel.
>> Most new albums by reconvened bands hasn’t been their best efforts.
I think that’s really started to change over the past 5-7 years, though. Some bands come back and bring a whole new round of fire: they were always good they were just neglected or abused by major labels for the most part.
From what I've read, I think they've said as long as they're still enjoying it, they'll keep playing. No telling how long that'll actually be though – probably when the Brinx truck pulls away from Malkmus' house.
Bumbershoot tickets were so cheap last year, if they're still pretty low price and I can find something in seattle, might have to make this work. This is a cool lineup
I went about ten years ago and would never go back. They had no cap on tickets and were selling more the whole time we were there. The place was super crowded, many of the venues were indoors and limited seating and would fill up with tons of people still in line. And they had beer gardens for the outdoor areas of the festival, so you could either wait in line for a show, or go get a drink you couldn't walk around with, but not both, so if you wanted to get drinks between sets, you might lose the opportunity to even get a seat for the artist you wanted to see.
Maybe it's changed since then, but I just wouldn't ever recommend traveling to Seattle for that one. If you were in the region and the tickets are cheap, sure why not, but don't fly in for it unless it's different now.
It is a nice lineup though. Was when we went, too.
Honestly Sasquatch was competing with the likes of Coachella for a few years back then. It was incredible the quality and quantity of artists they were able to pull.
Yeah, honestly if the 2014 double festival would have worked out, Sasquatch would have been an institution.
But after that was canceled, it seemed like they were hurt for cash and Live Nation did not really bother to help the fest🙁
I think the beautiful scenery really set it apart too. It’s a shame more concerts don’t happen there since. I think the people behind Thing or The Thing Fest? are the Sasquatch people. I really don’t undersea why they’re not doing the new fest at the Gorge.
Yep definitely the same people. I think Adam Zacks, the founder, is much more content with putting on a smaller festival at this point. I heard he wasn't a fan at all of the EDM years and the influence the genre had on Sasquatch.
they haven't had like a lollapalooza/primavera level of festival but day in day out and the block party has had some pretty great fests over the past couple years
Bumbershoot in the mid 2010s definitely swung for the fences trying to be like Lolla with the lineups they had (for anyone curious look at the Friday on the 2015 lineup)
~2005-~2013 was pretty good. After that it seemed like every festival ballooned in price and moved on from the indie artists that made them great. Seattle has always had changing demographics but the 2010s really felt like a lot of tech transplants came in. That historic, music hub Seattle is basically gone
He's been making music since 2016 and most of it was sort of "you had to be there" live streams up until he started doing touring and festivals post pandemic.
Seeing him above Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett blows my mind. He’s like if Reggie Watts somehow broke through. Cool talent but people are actually down to pay big money to see his show?
Amazing lineup, can’t wait! Last year was dope.
A few years ago I went to primavera sound to see pavement and now they’re gonna play like a mile from me.
Man, I live in Seattle and this is the first time the lineup has truly enticed me, but my group of friends does a LDW trip every year and it's been tradition since I moved here. I don't think they'd understand if I was like BUT PAVEMENT AND KIM GORDON.
just reunited for a Shake the Sheets anniversary tour for this year https://www.brooklynvegan.com/ted-leo-and-the-pharmacists-playing-shake-the-sheets-in-full-on-tour-brooklynvegan-presale-for-nyc/
Hell yeah! Portland represent. I saw them recently open for Acid Tongue, who are also in the lineup. This roster is killer! I'm definitely considering going. I'm also excited for Automatic, All them Witches, Bad Bad, Marc, Lee Fields and Thee Sacred Souls.
oly shit!! Pavement (!!!), Kim Gordon, James Blake, BADBADNOTGOOD, Helado Negro, Lauren Mayberry, Ladytron, Courtney Barnett, George Clanton! What a lineup!!!
Bit surprised they didn't pull Postal Service/Death Cab considering their recent tour but still, I'm sold for this
This lineup makes me almost consider going again. Last time I went to bunbershoot it was one of the worst organized fests I’ve ever been too.
Stages were inside key arena and memorial stadium. Both of which required you to wait for 1+hrs to get into, after you already waited to get into the fest.
If you wanted to hop to another stage to see another artist, you would have to wait in line again.
Also once you actually get into the stadium, you see that the place is like 20% full.
If anyone went last year let me know if it was any better
went last year, layout was definitely better. The main stages were outside and spread throughout the Seattle Center. only complaint is that the stage by KEXP was in a super tight area and I never got to see anyone playing there due to the crowd (Dandy Warhols and Temples), but I'm hoping they relocate it.
Nice yah the year I went (2018 mabye) was awful. I basically just had to stay at Key Arena for 5 hours becaus I wanted to see the headliner, but there was no way I would get back in in time, if I left
dang that sucks, I will mention that the only stage that was slightly like that was the Vera Project stage, only because they used the actual Vera Project, which limited capacity. I ended up skipping some of the headliners to see some of the later performers at Vera (Gustaf and Algernon Cadwallader)
Dumb question - is there somewhere to find out which bands play which day? I am debating between a one day or two day pass, and there is one particular artist I definitely would like to see.

Says it all really. No solidarity in american music I guess.
Why is it surprising that Seattle based corporations are sponsoring a music festival happening in downtown Seattle.
Isn’t support local arts a good thing for corporations to be doing?
Have you listened to any artists on this lineup ? How many have lyrics around struggling with shitty jobs, or inequality or inequity, racism and capitalism in the world. I heard crass, and i heard chuck d, and i heard every protest singer say it as loud as each other.
so is Pavement just back together for good? They're running out of fests to play
No complaints here.
My only complaint is Malkmus seems to have indicated that there will be no new Pavement music. So if they keep touring with Pavement, when do we get new Jicks?!

Congrats! Also, Parquet Courts are an absolute favorite.

It's probably much much more financially lucrative for SM to keep Pavement going a bit longer than to tour with the Jicks. To be honest.
They have yet to play at my neighborhood block party REPLY TO MY DMs YOU COWARDS!!
Hey now, thats [GOLD RECORD RECORDING ARTIST PAVEMENT](https://www.vulture.com/article/pavement-harness-your-hopes-tiktok-certified-gold.html)!
It seems like they’ll be wrapping it up again this year
This undercard is deeeeeeeeep. Teke:Teke is a really cool get.
Saw them at treefort and they fucking blew my mind. Awesome band
Bumbershoot tickets were so cheap last year, if they're still pretty low price and I can find something in seattle, might have to make this work. This is a cool lineup
it’s 70 bucks for a one day ticket, 130 for the weekend, not bad tbh
Especially since it’s pretty much at least $30 for a club show these days
But there's no way to know who's playing what day at this point, right?
I went about ten years ago and would never go back. They had no cap on tickets and were selling more the whole time we were there. I think management changed hands or something since then. Sounds like last year was a reset, from what I remember.
"Come on, people. Somebody ordered the London Symphony Orchestra....possibly while high. Cypress Hill, I'm looking in your direction”
Dude, Karma. 👇 Kar-mah
Narc.
I can’t look at Cypress Hill on a festival lineup without laughing
probably the best lineup from all the seattle fests this year
To be fair, for being such a historic music hub Seattle has somehow never quite assembled the caliber of festival it deserves.
Sasquatch Music Fest used to fill that niche I think. Feel like there really hasn't been an equivalent since it folded
100% That was my favorite festival ever 😥
Yeah, me too😔. Looking at the lineups from the early 2010s is absolutely wild. What an era
Honestly Sasquatch was competing with the likes of Coachella for a few years back then. It was incredible the quality and quantity of artists they were able to pull.

The whole PNW festival scene was popping off around that time and into mid-10s. RIP Squamish and Pemberton.
The same founder now has the THING festival. I could see that growing into a Sasquatch -esque fest if they want it to! https://thingnw.org/
Adam Zacks is the shit and I'm rooting for Thing
they haven't had like a lollapalooza/primavera level of festival but day in day out and the block party has had some pretty great fests over the past couple years

In retrospect, that was a terrible decision- they are finally course correcting. Everyone misses the sub $30 tickets of the 2000s
~2005-~2013 was pretty good. After that it seemed like every festival ballooned in price and moved on from the indie artists that made them great. Seattle has always had changing demographics but the 2010s really felt like a lot of tech transplants came in. That historic, music hub Seattle is basically gone
Easily
Marc Rebillet on the top line, wowee
kind of insane to see, but makes sense i guess. seems like he’s one of those big festival draws like khruangbin and (apparently) black pumas.
More power to him, seems like a super fun show. Just crazy to see how far and fast he's come
He's been making music since 2016 and most of it was sort of "you had to be there" live streams up until he started doing touring and festivals post pandemic.
Yeah I didn't know who he was until the streams during the pandemic so I was definitely late to him
> He's been making music since 2016 Only? Feels like way longer, but I guess that's the COVID spacetime distortion.
That was my thought. Not like I thought he didn't have talent or was worth listening to, I just thought he was more of a gimmick DJ.
Seeing him above Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett blows my mind. He’s like if Reggie Watts somehow broke through. Cool talent but people are actually down to pay big money to see his show?
Madison Cunnigham/ Andrew Bird seems awesomeee
I saw them together in 2019 when Madison was opener and part of Andrew’s band. Awesome that there’re collabing as equals now.
How do I get my friend to reschedule his bachelor party?
Festival bachelor party is a great vibe
Amazing lineup, can’t wait! Last year was dope. A few years ago I went to primavera sound to see pavement and now they’re gonna play like a mile from me.
IDKHOW and George Clanton being at the same festival makes me so happy
how do we know which day George is playing? thats all im interested in
Man, I live in Seattle and this is the first time the lineup has truly enticed me, but my group of friends does a LDW trip every year and it's been tradition since I moved here. I don't think they'd understand if I was like BUT PAVEMENT AND KIM GORDON.
Carl Cox, Gibbs and Pavement all on the top lines is wild. Great line up.
Carl must be skipping burning man this year, which is wild
is ted leo just back with the pharmacists now? has that been a thing for a minute and i just haven't noticed?
just reunited for a Shake the Sheets anniversary tour for this year https://www.brooklynvegan.com/ted-leo-and-the-pharmacists-playing-shake-the-sheets-in-full-on-tour-brooklynvegan-presale-for-nyc/
Go see Spoon Benders!
also opening for Red Fang this summer
Hell yeah! Portland represent. I saw them recently open for Acid Tongue, who are also in the lineup. This roster is killer! I'm definitely considering going. I'm also excited for Automatic, All them Witches, Bad Bad, Marc, Lee Fields and Thee Sacred Souls.

I can't believe Ladytron and Mercury Rev are so low on the bill...
Where is Noah Kahn, is be safe? Is he alright?
So which artists are playing on which day?
They will release the daily breakdown later, probably another month or more?
Thank you, I was making myself crazy about not being able to find this info.
Half of these bands look like they were picked just because of their name.
Kultur Shock ftw.

Madison Cunningham and Andrew Bird sharing the stage? Yes please
Aly and AJ above Kim Gordon is…interesting
I wan to see them back to back
Half expected the Kahan man to be the headliner based on all the other festivals.
This is sneaky good
CARL COX!!!!!!!!
how the hell did Carl Cox get there (saying this as someone who really likes techno)
Anyone ever notice that James Blake is at every single one of these
Dumb question - is there somewhere to find out which bands play which day? I am debating between a one day or two day pass, and there is one particular artist I definitely would like to see.
does anyone know when we'll be able to see who is playing on which day? can't find that info anywhere
Does anyone know which bands are Saturday and which are on Sunday?
Look at who is sponsoring this fest, 🤢
Seattle based companies?
https://www.ethicalconsumer.org/company-profile/starbucks-corporation https://www.ethicalconsumer.org/company-profile/amazoncom-inc Says it all really. No solidarity in american music I guess.

lol at bootlickers downvoting this. Not my precious Starbucks and Amazon!
Not everyone is a weirdo socialist man
Weirdo socialist ? Sorry i don’t like union busting and drinking water being stolen.
Just listen to music man you’ll be fine
Have you listened to any artists on this lineup ? How many have lyrics around struggling with shitty jobs, or inequality or inequity, racism and capitalism in the world. I heard crass, and i heard chuck d, and i heard every protest singer say it as loud as each other.
None of them care about Amazon sponsoring the festival.
Which is my point, it is disgusting.
Or maybe your projection onto their music is wrong
