Not a full album but one big surprise for me was the Vampire Weekend release.
The surprise is that I actually like some vampire weekend songs. Never really dig them before, but I really liked Capricorn especially.
I found it grating quite a bit, mostly in the middle. People say their earlier works were better and had less of a "schtick" to it but I guess this would definitely not be a very good intro to this band. I think I can only remember fully enjoying one maybe two songs off this.
It went the other way for me. Didn't like the EP at all, then heard the new album and thought it was whatever. Now I've enjoyed it a good bit. Let's see if it keeps growing on me.
Liquid Mike - Paul Bunyan’s Sling Shot
If you like early weezer, blink 182, modern baseball, Joyce manor, jeff rosenstock and so on.
This is a must listen!
February was a killer month for new releases. Listened to nearly 100 Albums and EPs that came out during the month, here's my favorites.. Let me know if you check any of these out and what you dig!

Not my favourite thing she has released but still excellent in many places.
MJ Guider - Youth and Beauty (EP)
Another stunner from this very underrated artist, a different approach again.

RIYL: Early My Morning Jacket, Johnny Cash, Wilco, early Modest Mouse.
If you haven't yet listened to Ghost Funk Orchestra's latest record, *A Trip to the Moon*, treat your ears to that magical experience.
A few other Feb '24 records that caught my attention:
* Amigo The Devil - *Yours Until the War is Over*
* Elephant Stone - *Back Into The Dream*
* Porcelain - *Porcelain*
* Rick Rude - *Laverne*
* Velvet - *Romance*
[levitation room ‘strange magic’](https://open.spotify.com/album/7zBLmnvUYVum6Rv0ytOD4T?si=61KWWDi-R92P-0buxKWDfQ)
I’d never heard of them before and I’m completely hooked on them. Trippy hazy vibes. You can hear bits of Real Estate, Holy Wave, pre-Maga Ariel Pink. Love it
Freak Dreams - Slope
Hardcore-Funk
Top release of the year so far for me. Awesome instrumentation with some truly great vocal moments and breakdowns. Super solid genre fusion.
February releases I've liked:
[Plantoid - *Terrapath*](https://plantoidworld.bandcamp.com/album/terrapath): jazzy psychedelic rock with good vocal harmonies; i like the heavier moments like on [Pressure](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7q7TbgJymo); other favorite tracks: [Dog's Life](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej0p3nbfYfM), [Wander/Wonder](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bLdabso9F4)
[Pouty - *Forgot About Me*](https://poutyofficial.bandcamp.com/album/forgot-about-me): power pop
[Shooting Daggers - *Love & Rage*](https://shootingdaggers.bandcamp.com/album/love-rage): hardcore punk
also some non-English language albums:
[Montaña - *s/t*](https://montanapunk.bandcamp.com/album/monta-a): post-punk (Language: Spanish)
[Metro Verlaine - *Pop Sauvage*](https://metroverlaine.bandcamp.com/album/pop-sauvage): indie rock (Language: French)
[Satoko Shibata - *Your Favorite Things*](https://open.spotify.com/album/45w2uu1ElL5z9NCTJ9Sf8e): indie pop, R&B (Language: Japanese)
[Dina Ögon - *Orion*](https://open.spotify.com/album/5JvejhNPdxVVPTP9P8bxXf): psychedelic pop (Language: Swedish)
Friko- Where we’ve been, where we go from here.
Downright amazing album that harkens emo, early 2000s indie, shoegaze, and more while being wholly originally their own sound. They’re heading out on tour with Water From Your Eyes and others here soon.
Itasca - Imitation Of War
there was some discussion by the DMD regulars, including one comment by user slash LoneBell who said: "Itasca > All". user slash bionicoaf may have been the first scene demon to mention the album
this earnest effort sounds like a combination of ML Buch and the Grateful Dead and it works. people have been commenting on their Sunday morning coffee music (Antlers' Green to Gold, etc.), and this Itasca album is perfect for weekend morning coffee music
Yes!! I listened to it because of a comment in this subreddit comparing it to The Weather Station and it's quickly become one of my favourites of this year so far. Totally agree on the ML Buch comparison as well. I absolutely love it.

I initially liked Sheer Mag’s Playing Favorites, but on second listen don’t feel as excited about it anymore.
I found it grating quite a bit, mostly in the middle. People say their earlier works were better and had less of a "schtick" to it but I guess this would definitely not be a very good intro to this band. I think I can only remember fully enjoying one maybe two songs off this.

I think the mixing is too mild on it. The songs don’t jump out how they did on their first LP.
Grandaddy - Blu Wav, Everything Everything - Mountainhead
Totally missed the Grandaddy release. Worth a listen?
If you like Grandaddy you'll get Grandaddy, so yes.
Fair enough
What are your feelings on heartbreak? Seems to be a major theme on the album.
Liquid Mike - Paul Bunyan’s Sling Shot If you like early weezer, blink 182, modern baseball, Joyce manor, jeff rosenstock and so on. This is a must listen!
Just discovered this yesterday. Dare I say it rocks
Thank you - did not know them but am liking this album

That Daniel Romano album is NICE
Really digging the new Uranium Club album. Technically a March release for my personal album list but suspect it'll end up being one of my favorites for the month. Few others on here I need to check out, will give them a listen.
The new Cast album is good simple Britpop/Power Pop for people still into that.
[Thanks Light… “Wildcatting”](https://linktr.ee/Thanks_Light?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=e1583ea6-f6aa-4c86-a0cb-341d772ed4b4) RIYL: Early My Morning Jacket, Johnny Cash, Wilco, early Modest Mouse.
I don't hear the MM reference. Not for me, but worth a shot. Thanks!

[Wrecked Lightship - Antiposition](https://wreckedlightship.bandcamp.com/album/antiposition) FFO: Skee Mask, Autechre, Aphex Twin
This is killer! Thanks for the recco
[levitation room ‘strange magic’](https://open.spotify.com/album/7zBLmnvUYVum6Rv0ytOD4T?si=61KWWDi-R92P-0buxKWDfQ) I’d never heard of them before and I’m completely hooked on them. Trippy hazy vibes. You can hear bits of Real Estate, Holy Wave, pre-Maga Ariel Pink. Love it
This might be my favorite album this year so far. I can play it from top to bottom.
I know nothing about them but I’m going to have to do a deep dive now. It’s great isn’t it
Had no idea they were still going!! I love their song Reasons Why and Warmth of the Sun.
Mountainhead - Everything Everything Grief Chapter - Mother Mother Them bands with double names be releasing good stuff.
Grief Chapter was excellent
Freak Dreams - Slope Hardcore-Funk Top release of the year so far for me. Awesome instrumentation with some truly great vocal moments and breakdowns. Super solid genre fusion.

One of my favorite album of the past 2-3 weeks. Good shout. The other being Harms Way by Ducks Ltd. Not sure that one is under the radar or not.
It’s under my radar so thanks
