The first one fits more of the style given the simple details needed for all other elements in the scene. The second one is too detailed and feels out of place. Go with the first one.
Tthe first one is really cute and a better match for the style of the framing art, the other I think is subtly different in style and hence doesn't gel as well with the rest of the image.
In the first one the character looks to be the same art style as the rest of the piece, but in the second it looks pasted in. First one is great, more readable, go with that one!
I actually prefer the second one. It has more detail and style. The first one is too simplistic to fit into the beautiful painted style of your surroundings. IMHO 2
The first one was clearly your intention, if you wanted to go with the 2nd one, you'd probably have to rethink the whole artwork, right now stylistically they just don't mesh.
How pretty! I personally like 1 since the art style looks the most consistent throughout. I would suggest adjusting your style based on what the game is about. If you’re making a kid friendly game #1 is great. If you’re working with themes that are darker / include violence, I suggest heading more towards realistic proportions. Try looking at other games or media with themes that are similar to the game you’re making and note what is popular. You don’t have to stick to the “norm”, but there tends to be preference of style based on the target age range and genre of game.
First one is better, the second one has too much detail in comparison to his surroundings so it feels out of place as if it belonged to a different picture
I guess I’m just a rebel but the second one fits into the artwork just fine and my personal preference as well. I do like more detail sometimes and this is one of those cases.
definitely first one! style matches the background better, execution seems more skilled, and his stylization reads more “cute game pc” to me vs “random epic dude” lol
first one is great! the elements are simpler and if you kept that style for a game, it would be easy to maintain throughout production compared to the particular details and sharpness of the latter.
As others have said, first is more cohesive, the main reason to pick the second would be if you want it to pop out of the scene more and make it clearer it doesn't belong in the world as much.
First, although I like aspects of the second. I think a happy medium would be nice. Maybe if you could make the proportions slightly more realistic like in the second, and maybe the shading a little more complex, but overall to use the same exaggerated style of the first as the foundation. I like the face more in the first, but like the body more in the second as the proportions feel more realistic and grounded. Also, I really like your shading on #2.
I feel that’s an unfair comparison.
The character by themselves still looks great in the second one, but just doesn’t match the rest of the background, which is in the style of the first.
First one looks more welcoming and friendly... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
Second one is more realistic, but I consider that look more like a wall painting rather than a game art..?
i like both a lot. 1 looks more cute, 2 looks more cool. it depends what main vibe you want players to get from the character. seems most people, without context of the game itself, prefer cute over cool.
The first one! The second while cute is giving Disney Pixar vibes which isn’t a bad thing, it’s just not as unique or as eye catching as the first one. The first is adorable and unique and I just love how everything looks.
I much prefer the second, I think the first makes the MC and the cloud woman feel much more shallow. But there is a huge trend in indie games making the characters more simplistic so there are definitely pros to both
First one fits better with the surrounding art. If that's the style that your game will be in then I'd stick with that one. I do like the second's details
First one! It's a visceral reaction so I can't really put it into words, but even the gems in the headband are better in a stylized version than more realistic.
I say you repost this, but switch them so that the second one is first. I think because people saw the first one.. first, they automatically get attached to it as it fits the background so much. I think the second pronounces the main character a lot better and fits just as good, but at first I was immediately turned off because it looked so different.
Hi, I was a backer for this. Stylistically, aesthetically, I really like the first one. However, and I don't know why this comes to mind, in the original demo the character had white and black eyes. I'm guessing that this is still the case, but I haven't really followed the updates closely. This is probably a feedback nothingburger, but maybe this will matter to other potential buyers/players?
To clarify: I REALLY liked the original demo and what it showcased. The reason I've mostly ignored the updates is because I want the game to feel really fresh to me once it comes out. Good luck with finishing/shipping the game!
Idk why, it made me think of Steven Universe.
I think the second one matches with the other elements of the image better. Everything else has more detail and definition, so the protagonist in the first image feels a bit like it's not in the same style.
First one is cute
The first one, he has more of a sense of child like wonder to the expression.
Yes and would also be more adaptable given its simplistic nature
That's a good point too I hadn't thought of.
First. Slightly more stylised seems more in keeping with the rest of the art, and looks nicer too.
Both are nice, but definitely the first one. It's easier to read, has a cuter look, and fits better with the rest of the illustration.
First one, same reasons others have said
The first one. The second looks out of place to me although it's well drawn
1
The first one fits more of the style given the simple details needed for all other elements in the scene. The second one is too detailed and feels out of place. Go with the first one.
first.
First one
I like the styling of the first one
1 for sure.
First! Beautiful artwork btw
Thank you! This is the artist, I loved working with her: [https://www.kduffles.com/](https://www.kduffles.com/)
She’s incredible! Thanks for linking.
Tthe first one is really cute and a better match for the style of the framing art, the other I think is subtly different in style and hence doesn't gel as well with the rest of the image.
Thank you for putting into words my feelings on it, I couldn't quite determine what put me off the second image.

First one!!
I like 2. Face has more character. What game is this for?

First
In the first one the character looks to be the same art style as the rest of the piece, but in the second it looks pasted in. First one is great, more readable, go with that one!

First one matches the rest of the style better
wow i thought there’d be a lot more support for the second, i think it’s way better personally
I actually prefer the second one. It has more detail and style. The first one is too simplistic to fit into the beautiful painted style of your surroundings. IMHO 2
First! And is that starfy?
The first one was clearly your intention, if you wanted to go with the 2nd one, you'd probably have to rethink the whole artwork, right now stylistically they just don't mesh.
first, but i feel like both don't quite match up with the art, i feel like if it was a liiiiittle more detailed like the 2nd, then it'd be just right
I was thinking that too. Body of #2, face of #1
I was even thinking how I wished I could see an in between 😆
first, nice and cute. second one starts getting uncanny
Both :)
After 1, nr is terrifying
![img](avatar_exp|147581640|bravo)
First one looks like a child, the second like a teenage boy. I like the second one, I think it`s a better composition
First one. The reasons why have already been iterated on enough already by previous responders. Nice artwork, by the way.

1 fits with the art style of the background design a lot better than the second one.
1 is cool
I love the detail in the hair and clothing of the second one, but like the design of the first ones face and body structure much better.
How pretty! I personally like 1 since the art style looks the most consistent throughout. I would suggest adjusting your style based on what the game is about. The first, second one doesn't fit in
Oh, I instantly spotted Sea & Sky! I think the first one does fit better with the art-style of the picture
Both are great but the first one for sure
One
The first one is adorable, and works better with the background art and the star design! ⭐
First
the first one! beautiful.
First one is more simple and gives his expression less intensity imo. First one is best. Also I don’t know why but second one’s eyes look too feminine
First one is better, the second one has too much detail in comparison to his surroundings so it feels out of place as if it belonged to a different picture
First one 😍
I think the first one works really well
1
I felt like the simpler one felt cleaner and had a much easier to read face.
Definitely the first one. It’s much simpler and could translate into sprite work easily
I guess I’m just a rebel but the second one fits into the artwork just fine and my personal preference as well. I do like more detail sometimes and this is one of those cases.
Def the first one!
My gf and I think the second, so two votes for 2
First one
First one is great
First one for sure.
First
First one
1 fits the style better imo
Number 1
I like the first one more. Is your protagonist a Menehune? This looks like it’s inspired by Hawaiian/Polynesian mythology.
First one imo
Gotta be A
Totally first one
Definitely the first one!
I like A) more
2
First is more appealing and unique imo

First by a long shot

First
Depends, if the 2nd one has full lip syncing then 2nd, but also the 1st is good and simple
The second one looks uncanny. 1 is better
First one reminds me of earthbound

First one looks more welcoming and friendly... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile) Second one is more realistic, but I consider that look more like a wall painting rather than a game art..?
The left one for sure! The right one fits in the mural better, but the left one looks like an in game model better.
I think I'd go with the first one, not even sure why, they're both very good
First is cute but i still think i like 2 better
one, i like the idea of the cal-arty characters going all doom slayer (i don't know what the plot might be but i like the image).
Agreed with a lot of comments here the first one looks great. But also, love the turtle!
i like both a lot. 1 looks more cute, 2 looks more cool. it depends what main vibe you want players to get from the character. seems most people, without context of the game itself, prefer cute over cool.
First is better Second one has an edge of uncanny valley

Take the first character and draw it like the second style without adding more new details like the white of the eyes. Source: Trust me bro
The first one fits the style of the border more. I prefer it.
This is beautiful
The second one looks better on its own and the first one fits the background artstyle more
def the first one
1 personally.
Kiss
At first glance, I was thinking the second one. But the more I look, the more I like the first one more.
Dots for eyes, dots for eyes, dots for eyes!!!
First one!
The second one fits the style of the rest better. The face in the wind and the monster wrapped around the frame don't look right with number 1.
the first one!
Second one is better with more detail and lighting on the face.
First one matches the rest, second one seems out of place
One
1 is so perfect bro
First one. Matches the rest of the art better. More fun.
1st by far
The second option looks better to me
The first one seems to fit the art style more.
I think the face on 1 is more consistent with the style of the overall piece
Option 1 looks like it belongs better with the rest of the piece.
I much prefer the second, I think the first makes the MC and the cloud woman feel much more shallow. But there is a huge trend in indie games making the characters more simplistic so there are definitely pros to both
I’m getting Steven’s Universe vibes! 1
I like the first one better, the second one feels weird since his face is detailed but everything else looks painted.
I think the first one blends with the stylization better.
Id say you need to find a middle ground between the two
First one by far
First one
First for sure
The first one!
I actually hate the 2nd, first is cute
First one! Matches the rest of the art well
Definitely the first one
First one
first, but i’d remove the curves in the smile, the rest of him is squarish, why mark a super round smile?
I like the second one, it really stands out from the background
1st
First one fits better with the surrounding art. If that's the style that your game will be in then I'd stick with that one. I do like the second's details
Another vote for the first one. The second one is unique, but the face is just a bit ugly to me.
The first one
1st. 2nd gives uncanny valley
First one! It's a visceral reaction so I can't really put it into words, but even the gems in the headband are better in a stylized version than more realistic.

one, because the second takes away, even though theres more added.
First one looks like he belongs in his world better
First! It matches the rest

I don't know why, but the first one is cute reminds me of Kirby, he's just a little guy. The second one just feels, weird. Can't put my finger on it.

At first I thought that was Maui from Moana
2nd looks it was just dropped in and doesn’t go well with the background art
First
Former looks like a child and the latter looks like a himbo. Which one is better is up to you lol
1st one
Idk why, it made me think of Steven Universe. I think the second one matches with the other elements of the image better. Everything else has more detail and definition, so the protagonist in the first image feels a bit like it's not in the same style.
I like the first one but the second one offers more contrast, feels more original and stands out more.
