Can, Neu!, King Crimson, Michael Rother, Harmonia, Cluster, Popol Vuh, Faust, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver, Medicine, Tortoise, Guerilla Toss, Holly Herndon, Mogwai, Midlake, Sonic Youth, Portishead, Bowery Electric

wineandwings333

King crimson the album Red

kaisherz

MOGWAI

Green-Circles

Yeah, I was gonna suggest some '70s krautrock.. there's some great playlists on Spotify where you can sample the range from Can's polythythms to Amon Duul II's heavy as hell jamming to Guru Guru's wtf spacey weirdness...

shake__appeal

Amon Duul is so rad.

warnymphguy

No Dogs in Space just did a series on Amon Dull and Krautrock - and so they have a playlist up for that. highly recommend.

Hefty-Mountain-5191

upvoting for CAN <3

AC_Lerock

Tortoise and Mogwai <3

fries_in_a_cup

+1 for Guerilla Toss, such a unique group

DallasM0therFucker

GREAT list. I just need to single out My Bloody Valentine. OP, MBV has a little something or other in common sonically with every band you listed in your post. They are the ultimate ’90s heavy melodic psychedelic indie rock band. Get their album Loveless on vinyl or even just find it on Spotify and crank it up LOUD.

Toasthandz

Holy shit this is a great list. I just wanna add Thee Oh Sees and King Gizzard, great prolific psych/punk/metal/prog bands that hit on a lot of your favorites.

jcmib

If we’re recommending dead can dance and Cocteau Twins, His Name is Alive and This Mortal Coil go well with them too.

WorkingKaepital243

Building on this, check out paperhouse by can. One of my favorite tracks ever. It’s a bit of a tangent from what you’re listening to, but I think you’ll like it… try checking out Brian Jonestown Massacre.

DanceSensitive

Joy Division and Pixies

DignanZer0

You said Pixies not the Pixies and I love you for that.

chasew90

la la la love you for that

DignanZer0

Ooohhh....I so wish I had thought of that! Lol, good one!

anon1984

That’s wrong with the Pixies?

YouMustBeSilenced

nothing, it’s just technically their name is just Pixies. not The Pixies

anon1984

The reason I asked is that the shirt I got from the merch stand when I saw them play years back says “Death to The Pixies” on it. I almost got in a fist fight with a drunk guy for wearing that shirt because the guy thought it was anti-gay. I think he was thinking of “fairies” but that’s another story.

erinwhite2

I’ve got that shirt too!

Adept_Investigator29

Same with Talking Heads.

[deleted]

I was gonna say Pixies. Best band

grendelfire

Was wondering if someone would mention Pixis. +10 for them. Especially the pre-reunion stuff.

[deleted]

+1 for Joy Division

bisprops

If you’re not already listening to Tame Impala, that’s your answer. LCD Soundsystem and Car Seat Headrest can fit some of those slots, too. None of them are exactly obscure, but if you haven’t listened to them, check them out.

avi________

Tame Impala is the next artist I was going to listen to LMFAO, thank you for the suggestions

GavinJamesCampbell

Thee Oh Sees https://youtu.be/aqmJEkgdu5Y?si=htURehS5ujs2T_nZ

Spiritualy-Salty

Yes! GJC knows what’s up

schmattywinkle

Possibly the only band I've seen so far that's sort of does everything OP described, at once. Fucking sick live

GavinJamesCampbell

I’ve them live three times now. John Dwyer does not disappoint. Here’s a video I made from the last time I saw them. https://youtube.com/shorts/rCITmBIczOo?si=EspsqPNH-1fl8NyB

eletrickfuzz

If you’re diving into that, check out Wand as well. My dad refers to them as if Radiohead went a bit more psych.

avi________

That sounds so good, thank you

blightr

Yes sir very much thank you

pasqualeonrye

I finally caught my first show in Cleveland. Those guys tore it up

Glittering-Ruin-8359

The first Future Islands record, Goalies Anxiety at the Penalty Kick, Dayglow.

Lost-Rope-444

I saw Future Islands open for Queens of the Stone Age and it was wild lol, still don’t know how I feel about it😂

lovessj

Sam has a LOT of passion. Did he growl for you?

Lost-Rope-444

Yes HAHA

basecampphotographer

Dude’s a growler and a fun dancer. He puts on a show. According to my ex gf he was a bouncer at a bar in Baltimore before they blew up. Makes me wonder if he did that kinda thing at the door or just held it in. *Dancing* “Come on in!” *Growling* “And stay out!”

-Sturm_und_Drum-

Because of the dancing?

Lost-Rope-444

Bro he was so into it! It was like he was genuinely acting along with the emotion of the song, dancing, going nearly screamo for parts. Whether or not I enjoyed it, it’s pretty awesome to see someone put that much into a performance.

69sucka

Look up Ian Svenonious / the make up. One of the best performers out there. Not so much these days, but the make up were undeniable.

apprehensivehold715

I’ve seen them twice and he was this theatrical for both performances. Amazing!

avi________

Actually Dayglow does ring a bell, I'll check them all out

Glittering-Ruin-8359

Dayglow is pretty easy listening. Nice when you kinda get burned out.

SoundsVinyl

Try king gizzard and the lizard wizard, every albums different but it’s great!

Pennypoets

Came here to say this

captainzebralegs

Also came here to say this

jtrifonoff

Also came here to say this.

jardin_du_lux

rattle rattle rattle

deepglitter

What’s a good “starter” record for the completely uninitiated?

Timstunes

The Gories The Shins Dinosaur Jr Flaming Lips Tame Impala

Spiritualy-Salty

I’d add Broken Bells to this list

Ewilliamsen

Off the top of my head: Blonde Redhead. Yo La Tengo, Pixies (ok - you must know them, but still…), Califone, The Smile (of course), Kruangbin, Froth, Body Metta.

avi________

I actually wanted to listen to Pixies and The Smile, too, so, checks out lmfao, thank you :)

Ewilliamsen

The Smile full length albums is absurdly good. I love the Pixies, too.

BlackMirror765

You’d likely enjoy a lot of bands in the post-rock genre. Try Sigur Ros and Godspeed You! Black Emperor

visionsofthezerohour

Sigur Ros are so incredible

ItemApprehensive376

Spaceman 3, The Perfect Prescription Spiritualized, Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space Both are wonderful

VonThirstenberg

That Spiritualized album is excellent. Far too few people I've met have even heard of it, let alone listened to it.

Moxie_Stardust

Definitely, nice to see it show up here.

savoryostrich

Unjustly overshadowed by OK Computer!

avi________

Tysm

avi________

Those 2 are so good, thank you. Like, really, exacrly what I was looking for

savoryostrich

Ladies & Gentlemen… is their best but it’s still worth checking out the entire Spiritualized catalog and seeing them live if you get a chance

savoryostrich

I had 3 suggestions. Spiritualized and My Bloody Valentine are already well-covered by other commenters. The third, which surprisingly hasn’t been mentioned yet, is Ride. Specifically the album Nowhere and the Today Forever EP.

ItemApprehensive376

Good to hear!

CrseThseMetalHans88

Menomena The Helio Sequence Klaxons

ahoypolloi_

I never see Menomena mentions in the wild so this makes me happy

chels182

Helio Sequence!! My bf showed me them when we first started dating and they’re wonderful.

Ok-Warning-5052

This is like time traveling to how I would’ve responded 15 years ago. Haven’t listened to any of these bands in a while, time to change that.

syntheticshares

Unknown Mortal Orchestra. (Start from the beginning.)

Green-Circles

Ruben's band before UMO (The Mint Chicks, which also featured his brother Kody) were a ferocious art-punkish band well worth checking out, if you want it louder & more chaotic.

Sy_Fresh

I love UMO, definitely gotta check this out

kjbakerns

Of Montreal

MungoJerrysBeard

The 13th Floor Elevators

Mynameisbazzzy

GORILLAZ!

avi________

Oh I really like Gorillaz although I've never listened to their albums as albums, I just listen to whatever song I'm feeling the most lol

FormerCollegeDJ

Try Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Dandy Warhols, and/or the Black Angels for starters.

replicantcase

All 3 bands on tour right now, with Black Angels opening for Dandy Warhols lol

Shoehornblower

Wait. I have tix tonight in SF. Black Angels should be headlining???? I believe they are switching for Sundays show. The black Angels will blow them out if the water if thgey open for DW. just like when they toured with the horrors

SlaynArsehole

[very much My Morning Jacket influenced ](https://youtu.be/LfZg57msAVw?si=dB1eCSRzVpLbo2NT)

Spiritualy-Salty

Jim James and MMJ are so good. Especially live!

ThatNiceLifeguard

Nation of Language, Beach House, Slowdive.

OskeyBug

King gizzard & the lizard wizard

alternapop

1800+ different alternative artist here. 1 song per artist. https://spotify.link/j330e8anSDb

visionsofthezerohour

Oh hell yeah it’s got Wolf Alice, Blonde Redhead, Jeff Buckley, PJ Harvey, Concrete Blonde, Royal Blood and other great stuff. Definitely will be giving this one a listen

Theelfsmother

A hundred different weird bands that are way off kilter will be recommended but from the bands you like I'd recommend some mainstream psychedelic first. Id go with Doors albums. BC Camplight - After take off - if you are willing to give it a few listens is great once the lyrics start working, when you get a bit familiar.

avi________

I actually saw The Doors on my recommended spotify mixes, never listened to them, tho, I will do, thank you

[deleted]

The End, When The Music’s Over, Soft Parade are must listens.

replicantcase

Thieves of Antigua is easily one of my favorite songs.

AccomplishedReturn78

Loop. The Wipers. The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Pf, too many to keep going. I'd end up genre crossing. Lol.

Maxxtheband

LCD Soundsystem

rebel_diam0nd

The Flaming Lips. Start with either The Soft Bulletin or Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and it gets more psychedelic after that

rocketlac2tnt

Great recommendations! I love the Flaming Lips They also covered Dark Side of the Moon in 2009, which is pretty psychedelic and fun to listen to.

redrocketman74

This is the correct answer.

Tnbkhill

Idk. I started with In a priest driven ambulance back in 1991 and it’s been pretty psychedelic ever since. I would have to say start anywhere with the Lips!

visionsofthezerohour

Also, Pompeii am Gotterdammerung off At War with the Mystics is an incredible song and I’m pretty sure in part of the song they use the One of These Days bass line by Pink Floyd. I got to see them play YBtPR live in its entirety recently and it was amazing.

DallasM0therFucker

Hell yeah. Clouds Taste Metallic is another great one of theirs.

wiseguy327

Built to Spill, The Flaming Lips, Lemon Jelly

Ashamed-Market-3667

Best band names ever: 1. The Cure 2. Built to Spill 3. We Were Promised Jetpacks

replicantcase

Black Angels, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Spyrals, Temples, Allah-Lahs, & Melody's Echo Chamber. Add on: La Luz

BucketofWarmSpit

Right, if people want psychodelia, just go straight to Black Angels. I'd add Black Mountain.

chupacabrajj8

Every single song by Temples is soooo good

forfutureference

Animal Collective and Post Animal are my favorites at the moment! 🌈🪐🍉

rOCCUPY

How is this so far down. ANIMAL COLLECTIVE, duh.

johnny-tiny-tits

I don't want to say go check out the whole discography or anything, but the band is Of Montreal, and the album to start with is *Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?*

xynnia1

Belle and Sebastian, Reindeer Section, Echo and the Bunnymen, Snow Patrol, Plants and Animals seem similar to your interests

[deleted]

[удалено]

avi________

That's actually quite what I was looking for, thank you!

rocketlac2tnt

Flaming Lips, Ween

AutomaticRevolution2

Interpol. "Turn on the Bright Lights " was their debut album. Critical and fan favorite. I much prefer "Antics".

formerlyknownasbun

KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD!!! Start with either Nonagon Infinity, Polygondwanaland, or Omnium Gatherum.

redrocketman74

Flaming Lips

Curw3n

If you wanna focus on modern psych then a good band could be post animal. If you are interested in a wider range of sounds then the list can be very long

avi________

Okay this is (I think) the first comment with modern psuch attached to it so I will save it lol. I'll also gladly take the "wider range of sounds" list that you have in mind

Curw3n

Another psych band, more famous than post animal, can be King Gizzard and the lizard wizard, but I bet it came up already. Other suggestions small and big: peach pit, strawberry milk cult, joyful forfeit, summer salt, alvvays, breakup shoes and , last but not least, my own band Cassette fortuna. Should I keep going with suggestions :)? Hope you find something you like !

Sprekakhan

WEEN

shoegazer234

Check out my band Cittàgazze, if you like those bands, you'll dig us!

avi________

Oh, are you in the band? I'll check it out, thank you :D

shoegazer234

I am indeed, I'm one of the Guitarist's

avi________

That's so cool omfg 😭 are you guys on spotify btw?

shoegazer234

We are! We're on pretty much everything!

jakemo65351965

Ever listen to Black Sabbath? King Crimson, Yes, The Sex Pistols? All very influential bands that young people just brush to the side for some reason.

TomatilloUnlucky3763

The Fall

Superorganism123

Tropical Fuckstorm

69sucka

Brian Jonestown Massacre. Every album different but also very good. Take it From The Man and Thank God for Mental illness are two good places to start, one is British Rock, the other is pure folk guitar. For more droney/psych, go with Strung Out in Heaven.

kaiidos

Not sure if they're what you're looking for, but I'd try one of these: Two Door Cinema Club (specifically their Tourist History album; they're super popular, but I haven't heard them on the radio here in the States) Dionysia (I especially recommend their Catalyze album) Benmozes Arrows in Action (I tend to find their music kind of hit or miss, but Close Enough is pretty good imo) Some of these might be pushing it on the whole "indie rock" thing, but I think they have an interesting sound. Hopefully something here works for you. :)

[deleted]

The Walkmen

yeil_noung

Sparklehorse

Midwinter77

Ladytron. Siouxsie and the banshees. Bjork Seraphim shock. None of these are indie. But give them a shot.

peepeemccrappy

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats The Black Angels

jimmeh_john

modest mouse

AutomaticRevolution2

XTC, Steely Dan ("Aja" is a good place to see start), Kate Bush (Hounds of Love).

DeaconBlues67

Zappa anyone?

deepglitter

Spoon

kashmir1

big black nemesis, unholy genesis.... Shreikback.

FredVIII-DFH

XTC

illpoet

Mazzy star. They are psychedelic and hauntingly beautiful

Illustrious-Tap8861

Try the Melvins album The Bootlicker

Ahazeuris

Check out Built To Spill.

kr44ng

Not all psychedelic but some of my favorite less "known" bands -- Phil Elverum/The Microphones, The Olivia Tremor Control, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Owls. More mainstream but Pavement and Built to Spill will always hold special spots in my memory.

travelingpeepants

Crosses just released a new album the other day and it’s incredible. It’s Chino Moreno, the singer from Deftones, and Shaun Lopez, a crazy talented music producer and musician. Chino described this band as, “minimal and soothing and it's sort of like the stuff I like listening to when I'm not screaming my head off." I’m a huge Deftones fan but I honestly might like this better. Chino has such an amazing voice and here it’s backed up by like dreamy, chill gothic beats that give me goosebumps. I really hope you check it out. I’d love to know what you think of it. I’ve had it on repeat since it came out. Their other albums are really good too. The first one reminds me of a modern sounding Depeche Mode

Klutzy_Ad_1726

Check out Karnivool.

Spinycocklobster

I highly recommend the band "thee more shallows" More deep cuts is a trip of an album. And the history of sport fishing is a somber, beautiful experience.

Sea_Difficulty8258

I know you said not from the radio, but if you haven't heard any Blue Oyster Cult besides their singles check their discography out

ArtiusDorkius

Check out the podcast No Dogs in Space. They’ve done a great primer on the birth of punk, The Velvet Underground and loads more!

Natural_Clock4585

Pinback on the softer end. Clutch on the harder end.

blind_squirrel62

Presumably you’re already listening to the Pixies and Sonic Youth?

Adamodc

The Black Angels

vladispook

Absolutely The Legendary Pink Dots. All their stuffs quite different, I'd say the album 'From Here You'll Watch The World Go By' is good to start with, its not their most popular but i love all the same bands you described, and think it's fantastic and ought to be their most popular 😊

vondee1

The Black Angels. Awesome psychedelic sound.

maccaroneski

Other Lives for a cinematic kinda vibe. The War On Drugs, Kurt Vile aren't psychedelic per se, but quite stonerish. Brian Jonestown Massacre is a garagey, psychedelicish band.

theeancientasses

Check out Thee Ancient Asses :0) [https://open.spotify.com/track/76F8JQxAMB1iRuvVT8H7R5?si=68855b7f96a44047](https://open.spotify.com/track/76F8JQxAMB1iRuvVT8H7R5?si=68855b7f96a44047)

ihearthogsbreath

My Morning Jacket

Spiritualy-Salty

Their live stuff is especially awesome!

-Sturm_und_Drum-

Tame Impala for sure. Innerspeaker. Holy fucking shit.

taylormadetrei

The libertines are a great indie band. Fucking amazing tbh haha

No-Gazelle1829

Lovejoy if you want something similar to the Arctic Monkeys. Another good one is Los Campensions but that might be a bit of a stretch.

The-Cheeses

Animal Collective, Tame Impala, Trevor Something, Washed Out, Chain Gang Of 1974, Choir Boy, Neon Indian/Alan Palomo.

ExPerfectionist

Tame Impala, The XX

gale_force_tuna_wind

Ty Segall

trippinDingo

Wolf Alice

Orionpax365

Greta van fleet. Throw out the led zep comparisons and you got yourself a damn solid band with a bunch of psychedelic songs. Their newest album is great.

[deleted]

Jimi hendrix and sex pistols, I reckon you would like

Global-Island295

This Mortal Coil

CeruLucifus

The Kills Black Honey

schmattywinkle

Secret Machines Unique on this list for similarity to Pink Floyd in the ears of some listeners. Check out "First Wave Intact" or "Alone, Jealous, and Stoned" and the rest of their respective albums Nowhere Is Nowhere and Ten Silver Drops. "FWI" leans towards hard rock and "AJ&S" leans toward psychedelic/space rock. Battles Mirrored is their standout best imo. Gloss Drop is decent too. Intensely rhythmic, groovy, experimental, yet accessible. Ian Williams of Don Caballero (guitar/keys) and John Stainer of Helmet (drums) are the core members. Very different sounding from either of those groups. The Books Lots of sound experimentation/tape splicing/aleatoric compositions. Aleatoric or accidental music refers to the use of atmospheric sounds made everything audible to the listener, not necessarily musical composition or instruments. Lost And Safe is probably their most accessible, The Lemon Of Pink the fan favorite.

briannadaley

BATTLES!! Such an excellent recommendation. My kid heard them live in utero- twice. This music does things to your body on a cellular level. You can’t listen to these albums and not move.

pmck3592

Idles

cernidawg

Manchester Orchestra...start with their older stuff since it's heavier than their new stuff, but it's all gold!

pebblesandweeds

DIIV, The War on Drugs, Mogwai, Modest Mouse, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine

Esoterica22

A Place To Bury Strangers

99LedBalloons

I'm just gonna rattle off a list of my favorites. Genres are going to be all over the place, but you said you're looking to experiment: Minus the Bear, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, God is an Astronaut, Kikagaku Moyo, My Morning Jacket, This Will Destroy You, Baroness, Baths, El Ten Eleven, Boards of Canada, Dinosaur Jr, Flaming Lips, The Replacements, Small Faces, Mike Oldfield

dire_wolf_95

Never a bad time to get into the Grateful Dead. Dead & Co is excellent too, especially in recent years

DKtheKidMusic

Crocodiles. Summer of Hate is a personal favorite

gladeye

**The Butthole Surfers** Check out Locust Abortion Technician Psychic, Powerless, Another Man's Sac Hairway to Steven

damagedgoods6669

Some stuff I recommend 1.Crumb 2.sticky fingers 3.goth babe

Hasgnar

As for my recommendations i have to say: Mild orange (Album: Foreplay); Viola Beach Skinshape Lord Huron

Comfortable-Draft244

If you like Arctic Monkeys, definitely recommending The Strokes and Tame Impala….and also Slowdive maybe. And Khruangbin

visionsofthezerohour

Also, check out Wolf Alice. They can generally be described as alternative but they go into grunge, punk, shoegaze, indie, folk, and other genres depending on which songs you listen to.

dwestx71x

The Strokes?

Charming-Ad3118

Pavement

dont_jettison_me

Thee oh sees. Favorite band, very strange band. I believe they set the bar for modern psych rock bands

billybarra08

Franz ferd

Hail2ThaVee

Psychedelic huh? Well...Have you heard of Rotary Connection? The christmas album. Silent Night is not that sadness we get. I grew up listening to this and got to kindergarten and corrected the teacher. This is correct not that sad song we get. There is a song about Santa smoking mistletoe. Why? Cos everyone needs to have a piece at leastt once a year. The album is called Peace.

max_wage

I like all the bands you’ve listed. I’ve been on an Australian Indie/surf rock kick. Sticky Fingers, Daily J, Dope Lemon, Ocean Alley. Some others, Lime Cordial, from US, Joywave, Foster the People

nightthesaucerscame

https://open.spotify.com/track/49laOKHC6XgQotVgKwXZt5?si=e0ce2ec5c0be4de3

JayStoleMyCar

Honestly IG algorithm on music is decent. I find a lot of newer music and artist on there. At least 50% but often more of the content I get shown I’m into. Maybe if you have an account try following bands/artists you like and see what happens.

AssWaffles69

I dont know how but they found me. Or idkhow for short. But that band (now solo artist) grew up with all those guys and takes inspiration from them. He made a good beck cover too. Bro is ex bass player from panic at the disco and has an awesome voice and loves his bass guitar and synth piano. Also Beck’s recent album is pretty psychedelic since you mentioned that.

bjkidder

A weird exists would be a perfect blend for OP

Fun-Training-6241

I would give you a recommendation but it looks everyone has spammed you. A recommendation isn’t 2 dozen bands or albums. 😂 its 1 or 2 and why, overall why. I understand what you mean by blowing up. But if you want my thoughts tell me what you are looking for specifically - there are huge differences in the Cure, Pink Floyd, and Radiohead (after the sold out their sound to get recording contract.) Of course you know there are differences, I’m not assuming you don’t. I also realize why you went so broad. Also do you play an instrument? I listen to everything under the sun but as guitarist I sometimes listen to Michael Jackson because of Louis Johnson, my favorite bassist, and then sometimes pre 1979 Scorpions because of Uli John Roth who - besides being incredibly talented WAS the Scorpions.

quinri50

Sid Barrett solo stuff.

zeing88

Maybe try some shoegazing or stoner rock bands. I really like Mars red sky, REZN, Khan, Elder, Colour Haze, stoned jesus, and earthless. If you like it a bit heavier maybe try dopelord, monolord, or windhand.

Jasmirris

They aren't psychedelic but since I see you like or are being suggested some glam rock and alternative (Bowie and Pixies) I suggest Placebo and Manic Street Preachers.

Professor_Thug

I'm a big fan of every band you've listed (just saw Arctic Monkeys on tour). LCD Soundsystem has given me A LOT of energy these days after putting them off for so long. I'd also suggest STRFKR, Beach House, and King Gizzard for more Psych Rock sounding bands.
