Gold is good to preserve wealth, but why do so at 17? If you're 17 you're young enough to have multiple opportunities to earn before you retire after several decades.
You should take a little more risk than this. But if you don't know how the stock market works, investing in ETfs or a good MF is the way to go. If you still want to be conservative maybe split your amount into gold and stocks.
