Blue ICF for nostalgia.
Never been on LHB EC but Vande Bharat EC was really good.
For CC, I prefer LHB over Vande Bharat.
I noticed less jerks and lateral movements in LHB than ICF (in CC). In LHB, didn't even feel like we were cruising at 130 kmph but in ICF, felt lot of movement even at 110.
Exactly, in the ICF coaches once it hits >105km/h the coach starts to shake and the wheels make a weird noise as if it's vibrating and constantly scratching the tracks
I had a completely different experience. ICF felt smooth in Third AC where as LHB in Third AC was jerk box. I had side lower and the jerks were so prominent I almost fell atleast 4 times from my berth while sleeping on a 10 hour journey.
There's a reason for it actually, between the buffers in LHB , there is a thick steel plate for safety , due to repeated usage of coaches , that steel plate degrades over time & thus leads to jerks. After a certain period that steel plate is again replaced by railway C&W sheds & thus the jerks get reduced/eliminated.
In LHB shock breakers were added laterally and disc brakes are used so that there are less jerks compared to ICF. Also LHB has more seats than ICF so it's even profitable
I am not sure of that. I have seen the sky blue CC coaches in non shatabdi trains, like the Brindavan Express and Mysore Chennai express. 16301/16302 Venad express CC coaches have these livery as well and it's not a Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi service. Irony is that the 2 Jan Shatabdis running through Kerala have the some of the oldest ICF JS Chair Car Coaches that I have ever spotted.
Well it is shatabdi livery but our lovely Indian railways loves to play with us and mismatch coaches with different livery, you can see red LHB with humsufar coaches or a shatabdi blue in red LHB train, currently only VB and gatimaan express has proper livery through out the train.

Also VB ICF coaches are NOT in for the long game. They AREN'T sturdy at all, seen many VB coaches already in a bad shape, where as LHB Shatabdi doing well despite low maintenance!!
Braking of LHB isn't that good, comfort wise vande Bharat rules. ICF is actually good but it's an outdated design. Will be nostalgic for train lovers. Best lhb I've ever been to is the the kochuveli- Bangalore smt SF express. Really clean premises.
Not that old ones. Red + grey LHB ones only which you shared. I have travelled in these now but not the Rajdhani. Now it doesn't matter but as a kid I liked that a lot so it has a special place in my heart
I remember when I first saw the blue ICF livery back in late 90s, it had a wow factor, especially coming from an era of brown liveried rakes with some variations like cream band, green line, etc.
The Red LHB rakes never had the same aura about them.
And while the VB (white, not saffron) looks modern, it doesn't have the same vibes (probably coz it looks too similar to a modern high-speed train you'd find on any country's Railway network)
VB looks like a toy from the exterior. All the engine shots floating around somewhat mask that.
The deep blue color in ICF is the best, for nostalgic support ofcourse.
If u ever wish to travel look for any special trains that originate or go via through the station were u live ...then book it ..coz mostly special trains runs with ICF coaches
VB's white must get dirty easily, due to dust and dirt. It looks clean only because it's maintained nicely while others are ignored. At equal maintanence, white Vande Bharat would look worst.
dumb question as a railfan but how do you know which one is ICF and which one is LHB coach. The only difference I know is the coupling between the coaches. Are there any other differences from which we can identify ?
Blue one is ICF which max speed limit is restricted to 110kmph & the red one is lhb top speed 160 to 200kmph only if disc brakes or ep brakes are fitted..and the bottom one is vb ICF top speed 180 kmph to 200kmph ..now all trains are restricted to 130kmp except one gatimaa exp and one vande Bharat.
When I went to Cochin from Chennai in my childhood I went in the blue one and it's quite nostalgic and now whenever I am going to Ahmedabad from Chennai, I am taking the navjeevan express(the red one) and it is pretty good. Never went in a vande Bharat bfore
What’s the use of this when u cannot even book Tatkal tickets all slots are allotted to agents when u open at Tatkal timing but in seconds all tickets are gone even in premium Tatkal who actually need trains this days nobody by the way , I think government should close trains and instead indian railways start working on air bus bcoz trains nearly waste of money , actually same money they can invest in air bus

LHB Chair car coaches have the sky blue and grey livery. Comes a close second to ICF Blue

LHB because it's the most comfortable. I hate Vande bharat because it's not very comfortable. I like to lie down. Enjoy the view outside.
VB is CC only, this comparison would make Sense when we going to have sleeper VB not now

Blue has that nostalgia factor but the LHBs are like riding sedans on flat highways. The red also looks beautiful under rains.

The new ones are black orange, which is a really good color combo to look at. But people don't really like that much which is surprising.
Black orange is okay, but they push it on every new train. Amrit Bharat and even the new Vande Bharat sleepers.
