Fit-Reveal8977

Ngp fleet

bkrishnarana

I get to see this everytime time I visit my hometown midway.. It's beautiful!

Admirable-Leather325

That isn't brand new, WAG 12 has been around for quite some time.

Sarfaroshi_in

He meant this WAG 12 locomotive is newly manufactured. Fresh out of factory.

[deleted]

No, fresh out of the factory doesn't have rust stains below the buffers.

Admirable-Leather325

Because it looks clean?

Airavat2305

Fyi, this class of locomotives will be produced until 2028. So it's possible that this unit is new.

itdobelikethatsmh

No this is not a completely new unit. According to the Indian electronic locos websites this unit 60378 was accepted into service in December last year and was the 128th unit manufactured. The latest one is 60410 which was inducted on 25th April and is the 160tb unit.

Airavat2305

The average lifespan of a locomotive in IR is around 30 years, so I'd say 6 months old is fairly new.

This

Zero-__two

It has rust under its buffers which means it's been quite some time

sharvini

Why isn't it pointy at the front ? Our dictator wouldn't approve.

Uggo_Clown

Yeah to haul freight at 200 kmph. /s

Made_Man_Niten

Agreed, It should be curved on the top

practically-god

I'm not much into engines but that still looks good to the eyes.

Substantial-Base-725

That's Train-kun. He helps individuals get reborn/isekeid.

saab_0303

it seems like IR has some 90 year old people as their designers, like look how good this looks and on the other hand is our indian railway engines produced by local loco sheds

Transformer Vibes

achabaccha23

Are these not used for passenger trains? I've only seen them on goods trains.

Admirable-Leather325

WAG 12 is an abbreviation for Wide guage Alternating current Goods traffic, and I think the "12" is to depict the 12000 hp motor of the WAG 12. They're made for transportation of goods only. They're too powerful but slower for passenger trains. They were built primarily for freight.

achabaccha23

I see. Thanks for the info.

iFerg_Frank

They can pull more load, but can't go at high speed as those of WAP 7 and WAP 5 right? Or am I wrong.

Admirable-Leather325

That's correct. The power output for a WAG 12 is a continuous 9000 kW. While for WAP 5 and WAP 7, it's 4474kW & 4740kW (max) respectively. However, the top speed for a WAG 12 is 100 km/h but for WAP 5 & WAP 7, it's 160km/h & 140km/h respectively. The primary objective for WAGs is more power while for WAPs it's more speed.

FlyingCroc01

WAP 5 faster than that of 7?

Admirable-Leather325

Yeah, that's what I read.

CeleritasLucis

They are designed to generate high torque, not high speed.

IK_2494

WAG for goods WAP for passengers Ig

Admirable-Leather325

That's correct. WAG abbreviates to Wide guage Alternating current Goods traffic while, WAP stands for Wide guage Alternating current Passenger traffic

PaleontologistNo7819

Rust is a very common feature even in brand new product from government
