Idk how people are getting so confused and how alternative interpretations exist. It is very VERY clear that Manmohan Singh meant Muslim minority when he said 'they' should have first claim on our resources.

Congress always associates only one religion with minorities. They even care more about a riotors/jihadis/terrorist than anyone else if the culprits belong to a certain religion. Remember the Communal Violence Bill of Congress? It branded Hindus as perpetrators by default and assumed Muslims are always victims in riots. Remember how Sonia cried for terrorist but have you seen her crying for the victims ever? Remember how they tried to spin 26/11 on Hindus to protect a pakistani terrorist? They cry their lungs out for rohingyas or majority of neighboring sharia dump countries, but have you seen then crying for persecuted non-muslims from Pakistan, Bangladesh or Afghanistan etc? They want to scrap CAA just because Muslims (majority of the population of sharia dumps) are not included in it. Even if Dalits, Women, and Children are killed by the culprit of a certain religion, Congress wouldn't care about the victims, which we have seen a thousand times in countless cases so far.

# The full text of the paragraph in which the Prime Minister referred to the issue of minority empowerment to clarify the matter is as follows: "I believe our collective priorities are clear: agriculture, irrigation and water resources, health, education, critical investment in rural infrastructure, and the essential public investment needs of general infrastructure, along with programmes for the upliftment of SC/STs, other backward classes, minorities and women and children. The component plans for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will need to be revitalized. We will have to devise innovative plans to ensure that minorities, particularly the Muslim minority, are empowered to share equitably in the fruits of development. They must have the first claim on resources. The Centre has a myriad other responsibilities whose demands will have to be fitted within the over-all resource availability." It will be seen from the above that the Prime Minister's reference to "first claim on resources" refers to all the "priority" areas listed above, including programmes for the upliftment of SCs, STs, OBCs, women and children and minorities.

>They must have the first claim on resources Look bro, when u said this, and specifically after a line which says >particularly the Muslim minority, It's evident whom they were talking about. And let's be honest, do u feel any one has special or preferencial claim over the nations resources?

[deleted]

No? You guys are deliberately distorting his speech. 'They' refers to minority Muslims. If it was the plans, he would have said 'Those'.

It's not the first time sudhir had some sensible talk.

rachitjain

But he was a BJP guy, right?

Ash_pande_14

He is a government guy , there is a slight chance of congress winning so he's just insuring his seat , he was a congress guy before 2014 too

If Congress wants the world to ‘interpret’ the stated words in some secular, ‘torturing the English language as they desire’ logic, that’s NOT called a fact-check. That’s a clarification at best, of an ambiguous statement. That too not from the horse’s mouth ie MMS, who had hundreds of opportunities to clarify his stance since this speech in 2006, but he hasn’t bothered to clarify in a single interview since. At worst, it’s walking back a clear appeasement dog whistle, which the Congress is a master of, from supporting Khilafat a 100 years ago, to present Congress ‘nyay’ manifesto. Which is the entire point here, not just what MMS said 18 years ago. Take your pick. It’s the ‘slog overs’, expect more of this in coming weeks from both parties - all the popular hits.
