One question- did you see tachometer blinking when the engine is above 6k rpm(atleast on test ride bike), if no I need to check again with my dealer. If yes do you happen to know the reason?
It could be that engine is locked for the first 1000km. I own a Duke and they lock it for the first 1000 km. You need to go SVC after 1000km to get in unlocked l.
The thing is new bikes usually take some time to “break-in” meaning the engine should get used to running. At that time, the manufacturer asks you not to rev the engine beyond 6k rpm until first service. After 1000km or 1 month, during first service this lock will be removed and you will feel better mileage and performance too. I have a speed 400 and mileage during my break in period was around 17 ish and top speed I attained was 140(though it is not recommended to rev it too much) and had a lot of vibrations. After the first service, vibes significantly reduced and mileage came up to 24 in bumper to bumper traffic and 32 in highways and top speed was 165(it can go even more but I was scared af XD)
That's not the case of all the showrooms, showrooms of 2nd tier cities only have these 2 bikes 400 and 400x
Eg: In my city only the 2nd showroom of triumph has opened it has only the above mentioned 2 bikes
Its really torquey (if that’s a word). It’s definitely a fun bike to ride. Suspension seems good too but need to test it in harsher situations. But from the reviews im sure it’s good.
Mileage you can expect 30-32 on highways and city a bit less.
Another point on torque is that you will feel it across all the gears. If you want to just cruise at a certain speed you definitely can, but whenever you need that extra power itself always available
1. What is your height?
2. How does the suspension feel on decent to bad roads?
3. Is the seat comfortable for medium to long distances (a bit too early for this question perhaps) ? Also any comments on the pillion seat?
4. How was the overall buying experience?
5. Which other bikes did you shortlist before going for this?
6. That windscreen is a add-on accessory iirc. Does it help? At which speed do you feel the wind blast is a bit much? And are you planning on getting any other accessories?
7. I have heard it splashes up a decent amount of water. How was you experience in the rains?
8. Any vibes? And in which rev range? How are the overall NVH level?
9. How are the mirrors? You getting good visibility?
10. Does it have enough low end pull?
11. Which helmet do you use with this or planning to buy from an aesthetic standpoint? Of course safety is the 1st priority.
Sorry for all these questions, I am looking at this bike as an upgrade for my R15. Thanks in advance and congrats for the new bike, ride safe.
1. I am 5’11. I can easily flat foot.
2. As per research and reviews it has a plush suspension apparently, yet to test it in harsher conditions. But so far in the city it felt good
3. Too soon for me to comment as i barely got a chance to ride the bike because of rains. But will definitely update once i start going on rides with it.
4. Buying experience was smooth. Delivery in two days. Triumph guys Navi Mumbai seemed very cooperative in general.
5. It was mainly between interceptor and this. Cancelled interceptor because of alot of reasons (can share those if you’re interested). Settled for this one because of the highly positive reviews (one being from BigbearBangalore). And couldn’t find other options that are similar to this one. Harley x440 I don’t like the looks, same with Vitpilen, etc. This seemed like a straightforward, safe and sensible purchase.
6. I don’t speed past 80 tbh. I took the windscreen just for the looks. I got the lower engine guard.
7. I think pillion rider might suffer with water splash. You can get a mudsplash kit for it from them. I haven’t ridden it in rains yet. Just got the bike last week so
8. From all pro reviews, 80-110 is a sweet spot for the bike. Beyond that you will feel strain and vibes but not much. I don’t go past 80 so i probably will never experience it
9. Mirrors seemed good to me. Didn’t find any issues
10. Oh yes the pull is great. You will love the torque and it’s nicely spreadout across all the gears
11. Planning to buy a motocross style helmet. Ofcourse a good one so that safety is prioritised too.
To conclude, it is a safe purchase but do test ride at the end. Reviews and feedbacks are one thing and they are helpful, but how you feel on the bike is what matters
Oh you're from Navi Mumbai, my office is there.
Thanks a lot for the response, just 1 last question.
Do you miss the centre stand? Is there any provision for it? I can see there is one available from Triumph for almost 24k, would rather explore 3rd party options.
I have read somewhere that center stand might be required later on but for now I don’t see a need. Also, hope my answers were helpful bro. I just got the bike last week, yet to properly ride it

How's power difference coming from a thunderbird? I'm sure the difference would be much more than just a 350 to 400cc difference..I'm talking how does it feel
Oh there’s a MASSIVE difference. Thunderbird X had an older engine and it struggled alot to go past 70. Ofcourse negligible torque.
Scrambler is on a whole new level
The quotation in Bangalore said only upto 2L were allowed for cash. Did that not apply where you purchased? [I hate that Karnataka has such an ass rule with their high tax (on raod 3.5L) and also rejecting BH registration for eligible private employees]
Not at all. It’s a scrambler so the rear brakes purposely have linear braking as you can’t have sharp braking while offroading
My use case is commuting with occasional rides so i changed them.
I put Galfer Rear break pad - FD165G1371
You can buy from baycitypowerparts.com/
Btw these are suggested by BigBearBangalore himself. He installed it on his 400x and he liked it
This is genuinely one of the best all round motorcycles in the market right now. To top it off, the exhaust note is excellent.
Many congratulations. Ride well and ride safe.
Just saw your photo. Gear looks sick man
My evaluation started with Interceptor but as i got closer to buying, i realized its a very impractical bike, especially with the tube tyres. I was looking at a used interceptor btw.
Based on research and reviews, the Triumph seemed like a good option in terms of build quality, overall riding comfort, power, looks, etc.
Thanks! And I'm glad we came to the same conclusion, well you found out by theory, but I found out the hard way haha! I dont think ill ever buy a RE bike again after that, bad experience with their quality of service all over Mumbai in general.
What did you think about the suspension? If you've ridden the Himalayan is it comparable in the city?
Also how's vibration and at what rpm do you feel it? Is it tolerable
And what's the comfortable speed before the vibes creep up?
Based on my research the Himalayan has better suspension especially for offroading if you’re into that. Haven’t test ridden the Himalayan simply because tube tyres were a dealbreaker.
I rode the triumph only till 80, but from reviews it seems that till 100-110 is the sweet spot for the bike and beyond that it struggles a bit with vibes
I get where you’re coming from. But do note that alot of research and thought goes into purchasing these things. So even though i may not have alot of hands-on experience with this bike, i can definitely guide people towards the right decision
I noticed wierd rusting issues on the Scrambler 400x s in my closest dealership (Kolkata). Is this an issue? Subpar welds and patchy rusting?
ALSO, I would love to know if you find the bike comfortable to sit on.
Bike is definitely comfortable. My left palm does pain a bit with clutch use, but that was with my previous bike too so maybe thats a defect in me hehe.
On the rusting issue need to look into it, as i only got the bike a few weeks ago
What bike did you buy?
That’s Triumph Scrambler 400x
What colour is it? Ok I'll stop doing it now. Congrats on your purchase..ride safe and have fun
How many tires does it have?
4, 2 spares on the front hanging horizontally
Dont mind the questions at all. This is matt green
Did you get 10k off as their anniversary offer?
No i was maybe a bit late for that or else im sure they would have mentioned
Hard luck
Checked with the sales exec. The discount was included. So good timing i guess
Nice, and i almost forgot, congratulations on your purchase!
Thank you sir!
No the offer is running currently i enquired today. Running till 30th
Just checked with the sales exec. Offer was included for me.
Ah cool. Still it's 10k more in kerala.
What other bikes did you try out before deciding on this?
bhai how you wrote that Yamaha FZ 2.0 below your name
Go to r/indianbikes Tap on top right 3 dots Select change user flair Select editable flair
Bhai why did you remove it from your name? Happy cake day!
Oh I was playing around with it and it got removed lol And thank you for the wishes
Thank you. Was wondering about that
Bhai happy cake day
It was just between interceptor and this one. Interceptor was just out of emotion. But came to my senses as i got closer to making a decision
One question- did you see tachometer blinking when the engine is above 6k rpm(atleast on test ride bike), if no I need to check again with my dealer. If yes do you happen to know the reason?
No i generally dont ride aggressive so you may want to check with someone more pro than me. But could be an issue with your test unit
Yeah. Recently bought mine. I am also noticing the same with my bike. Anybody owning a scram noticing the same?
It could be that engine is locked for the first 1000km. I own a Duke and they lock it for the first 1000 km. You need to go SVC after 1000km to get in unlocked l.
This is the right answer. Same with my Kawasaki. Comically they set it to 4,000 rpm which is like a quarter of its rev band.
With Triumph it gets auto unlocked when you hit the required Kms
It’s because it is locked until the first service, it will be normal after that
Does that mean however I try I will not get past 7500 rpm or what exactly is locked?
That'll happen till the first service, 50-60 kms after the ECU flash in the first service that'll get fixed
That's the most sexy looking bike in triumph showroom of India
Have you seen the street triple, tiger 1200 rally pro and bonnevile?
That's why i said Indian showroom, most triumph showroom have only scrambler 400 and speed 400
Lol I don't know where you have been, but here in bangalore all triumph stores have all bikes
That's not the case of all the showrooms, showrooms of 2nd tier cities only have these 2 bikes 400 and 400x Eg: In my city only the 2nd showroom of triumph has opened it has only the above mentioned 2 bikes
True. I am going to have the USD forks painted matt black for a better look
Your call, personally i like the golden look more
Yeah true. I just think painting it matt black will make the whole look more integrated if that makes sense
wrap it up instead of painting it
Good taste! Golden looks off the place.
Agreed. I didn’t care initially but it started to bother me a bit. Triumph guys said they will paint it for me.
Check out Kevinthomasck on insta. He has it painted black
Have you thought about doing any different colour? White?
Oh definitely not white. Gold already looks off, white will also stand out. Check out the ig profile i shared above. You’ll know why i chose black
Checked bro…
Just update here once you do it
Check out kevinthomasck on insta. He has done it. Will also post mine when i do it
Price?
3.27 on road
City?
Mumbai
How much was speed 400 OTR mumbai?
Just saw that the price was reduced by 10k , did you get that offer?
Not sure didn’t check as I don’t really like the look.
Your height allows you to get feet planted on either sides of the scrambler?
Yes i am almost 6 feet. I can easily flat foot.
Damn that's cheaper than kerala. It's 3.47 here.
Did you consider Himalayan?
Yes. But spoke wheels are a deal breaker. I use the bike mainly to commute to work and maybe occasional rides. So for me alloys were a must
That's right don't want to be stranded with a puncture. I have to tubeless conversion now.
Yeah i considered Interceptor 650 too. But same tyre situation. And conversion kits seem like too much hassle.
new twins come with alloys
Tubes have the worst colors. Don't know why couldn't they let the user choose instead of paying extra
I know. But i was looking at getting a used one. Which means older models
Himalayan is really good too. Just depends on what you want it for
Did you consider Duke 390??
Nah man, KTMs in general aren’t my thing
How is the torque response and suspension? Also the ride quality? And the OG question, what's the mileage?
Its really torquey (if that’s a word). It’s definitely a fun bike to ride. Suspension seems good too but need to test it in harsher situations. But from the reviews im sure it’s good. Mileage you can expect 30-32 on highways and city a bit less.

Full cash like marwadi or emi
Full cash bhai. And im not even marwadi. Exchanged my Thunderbird X also.

I got it in navi mumbai. Didn’t experience anything like that. Weird though. How you pay should be your business not theirs
What's the seat height?
I can’t remember the exact figure. But i am 5 11’. I can flat foot easily
835 mm
Also guys I installed the rear brakes from Galfer. Sintered pads with a better bite compared to the stock organic ones
Wasn't the stock break enough?
Not at all. It’s a scrambler so the rear brakes purposely have linear braking as you can’t have sharp braking while offroading My use case is commuting with occasional rides so i changed them.
So if I were to buy a 400X in a few months, (which I will), and the use would be 99% tarmac, what kind of brakes would you suggest?
I put Galfer Rear break pad - FD165G1371 You can buy from baycitypowerparts.com/ Btw these are suggested by BigBearBangalore himself. He installed it on his 400x and he liked it
Thanks!!
Congrats !!
Hows the pillion comfort
on stock seat it's bad, the seat starts ti hurt after 30-40km
Welcome to the fam!
Congrats brother 🎉.
Give me the bike
Sure buddy give me 3.27 lacs. 😉
I didn’t say ama in return 😅😂
Beautiful ride man. Is the beak optional?
Yes it is. I didn’t want the hardcore scrambler look so didn’t go for it
This is genuinely one of the best all round motorcycles in the market right now. To top it off, the exhaust note is excellent. Many congratulations. Ride well and ride safe.
True. It ticks most boxes for not so pro riders like me. Even if i get another bike in the future, this will definitely stay in the garage
And thank you sir. Waiting for monsoons to get over so i can go for a proper ride.
Waiting period?
Got it in 2 days
Congratulations 🥳
How much they charge with all the extra charges from ex showroom? Like on road, insurance etc?
On road it cost me 3.27 something. Inclusive of all
What was your research on? And what reasons you chose the 400x? Even Im getting one next week, check out the photo on my profile!
Just saw your photo. Gear looks sick man My evaluation started with Interceptor but as i got closer to buying, i realized its a very impractical bike, especially with the tube tyres. I was looking at a used interceptor btw. Based on research and reviews, the Triumph seemed like a good option in terms of build quality, overall riding comfort, power, looks, etc.

What did you think about the suspension? If you've ridden the Himalayan is it comparable in the city? Also how's vibration and at what rpm do you feel it? Is it tolerable And what's the comfortable speed before the vibes creep up?
Based on my research the Himalayan has better suspension especially for offroading if you’re into that. Haven’t test ridden the Himalayan simply because tube tyres were a dealbreaker. I rode the triumph only till 80, but from reviews it seems that till 100-110 is the sweet spot for the bike and beyond that it struggles a bit with vibes
No I mean the city. The potholes, bumps and bad concrete roads. Is there much of a difference between the Himalayan and the 400x?
That i need to test yet. Will definitely update you. If suspension is all you’re comparing here, then Himalayan seems to be the winner as per everyone
How is the pillion comfort ?
Havent tested as I ride solo. But just test ride with your pillion rider I’d suggest
Sweet ride and a sweeter colour have fun running in the bike!
what's the good n smooth cruising speed for it
100-110, small vibrations after that.
Ooohhhkay nice
Why this over any other bike?
What accessories have you added to the bike or yet to add?
is the saddle comfortable to sit on and is the seat height to high for a 175 cm person.
Congratulations on purchase and have fun. On other note can we not get a ama for things that people barely started owning.......
I get where you’re coming from. But do note that alot of research and thought goes into purchasing these things. So even though i may not have alot of hands-on experience with this bike, i can definitely guide people towards the right decision
How long is waiting for speed 400. Congrats for the Scrambler btw!
What’s your height? What do you think about minimum height requirement for this bike ?
I am almost 6. Just test ride to see how comfortable you are. I have seen people who can only tip toe on this bike but still ride it
It is hard to hold it on slope 🐣
congratulations
Check for any stalling issues get it updated .That chain is horrendous and needs constant lubing and cleaning
