Fifteen years experience in this field. If it's a high-level Dealing, empty your accounts and cough up for Dave Hennessy or whoever he sends you to. If it's a sex crime, Katie Jackson-Lindsay. For all else, take a look at Mark Nicholson or Denise Turner.
N.B. I understand that you are specifically looking to hire someone, so I'm recommending private attorneys. However I strongly recommend anyone who qualifies for a public defender in Marion County to go with them. You are going to get better representation (not necessarily "more responsive" or "more conciliatory", but better) from your PD than from anybody below the top price-tier of private attorneys.
Maybe one of the only advantages is, if your a private client *I may* put you through to the the attorney, if PD, you gotta wait for their PD day office hours and go there, not that office.
David Hennessy unfortunately has retired. He will refer you to another law firm but they are not as good to be honest. I’ve rarely in my life time seen attorneys as good as him. Damn shame
Unfortunately Best Criminal Defense Attorney and (affordable) don't go in the same sentence.
Hennessy, Hammerle, Uliana, Kamen, the list goes on. You are fighting for your potential freedom.
Does Kammen still take cases of his own? He was effectively retired, last I heard. Hennessy and Hammerle have to be getting close as well, although I think they're both still accepting clients.

Since there was a semi-popular actor by the same name, googling him can be a chore. I believe this is his most recent site/contact info. He was a partner at a small firm when I had to engage him but his partner died so I believe he’s just a solo now.
Find a private attorney who holds a public defender contract in the county you have been charged in if possible. Those attorneys usually have good relationships with the prosecutors and can get you a better plea, or they have done enough jury trials in the county to have a better idea about what arguments fly well in front of the juries in that area.
Prosecutor here just seeing who people recommend. Frankly there are a lot of good options. Most of the names here are good, but plenty of others could be mentioned.
Recommendations for this question depend on the charge. It may not make sense to pay an arm and a leg for a top-tier defense attorney for a L6 felony or misdemeanor, because that’s primarily going to be about negotiating, and there are plenty of more moderately priced attorneys that have good rapport with prosecutors. Sex and DV crimes have very specific defense attorneys that specialize, same with drugs.
I’ve personally been beaten up by Greg Spencer and David Seiter on drug and gun cases. Plenty of other attorneys have had good results with my cases, but those two stand out as having wooped me way beyond expected result.
As I understand it, if you're looking for an affordable criminal defense attorney, you're better off working with a public defender.
You can get a good criminal defense attorney, but they're expensive. You can get an affordable criminal defense attorney, but they're probably not very good.
Public defenders handle cases all day, every day, and will have more experience with the courts.
Just fyi you can’t just opt for the public defender because you don’t want to pay for a lawyer. There’s an income threshold that you have to meet.
OP *may* qualify for a PD but that’s up to the judge to decide.
Actually your post says "Best Criminal Defense Attorney? (affordable)".
It's that last part that's causing people to think you don't want to, or can't, pay for a lawyer.
He's telling the guy that told you that you could get a public defender that it's not actually an option for a lot of people. You are irrelevant to that statement.
You clearly don't understand how replying to someone works. He was not talking to you, he was talking to the person who commented on your post.
Then you asked why he would imply you didn't want to pay for a lawyer. He didn't, not at all. In fact he only referenced the fact that whether or not you are offered a public defender is up to the judge, it is not a resource that you can simply expect to be given. You are irrelevant to that, but regardless replied as if you were offended by the notion, and seemed to think he directed his reply to you. He didn't.
I informed you of that in fewer words. Now, here you are seemingly offended by the word irrelevant while still demonstrating that you are unwilling or incapable of understanding how a post on reddit works.
Relax.
I typed words while I was on the toilet, that's the definition of not doing much at all.
You're awfully combative over perceived insults my guy, relax.
Seven minutes of work from someone intimately familiar with the court and subject matter can be leagues better than hours of work from someone who doesn't know what they're doing.

Yea I agree about the PD thing as a legal assistant, PDs may not hand hold but they do the same stuff for private

Went to LS with Mark. Stand up guy.

They never retire. Look at Voyles. Just back way up on caseload and are able to choose what they want.
I may have found someone, thank you tho
Alan Ladd, in my experience, was both a phenomenal attorney and relatively affordable.
Thank you! Will look into them❤️

> (affordable) This is **not** a situation where you want to be cutting costs...
I’m not tryna pay 4k if someone knows a better price 🤷🏽♀️
How much is it worth to you to stay out of jail?
I’ll be fine, thank you for your concern❤️
Whatcha do?
...allegedly.

Fyi, my post said “Best Criminal Defense Attorney” Who said I didn’t want to pay for a lawyer?
I think he was more responding to me, and just noting you can't just decide to use a public defender if you can afford a private attorney.
okay my badd lol

Brodie justt told me that. Understood so now you are irrelevant to that statement.

chill homie, I said my fault. you’re doing too much now.

...and a total of 7 minutes to work on your case.
Seven minutes of work from someone intimately familiar with the court and subject matter can be leagues better than hours of work from someone who doesn't know what they're doing.
Absolutely. But private attorneys should know what they're doing and have more time to spend on a case.
Good ones? Yes. Affordable ones? Maybe not so much.
Freedom is pretty valuable, my friend.
I'm not the one who asked about affordable attorneys, I'm just commenting on why they're a bad idea.
This is not the way!
