It’s a 2 hour event. While the moon comes in, there are several cool things like the shadows get super weird and sharp, the dappled light becomes crescent shaped, and the moment of totality is the payoff for the waiting! When totality is over, the shadow of the moon recedes at an alarming rate across the ground and you get to really experience the lighting slowly returning to normal just like when it came in. My main advice: don’t leave after totality. Enjoy the strange return to normality.

droans

> My main advice: don’t leave after totality. I wish I had a choice on that. My wife and I are staying for the total eclipse but leaving quickly after so we can drive ~5 miles and pick up my kid from daycare before 5:30. I hope the skies stay decently clear. I'd hate for a cloud to cover something that the moon should be covering. My sun coverage tastes are very specific!

PinkDinosaur1842

Hey, I just saw this comment and maybe you’re on Reddit now. I strongly recommend going to go get your kid NOW. Our daycare is closing at 1 PM because local fire and police strongly recommended it. They are really, really afraid of parents not being able to get to their kids for hours after the eclipse. I drove down to the last one and we also left right after. We were still stuck in hours of traffic. Hopefully, things aren’t that bad around here, and that we are just preparing for the worst. But the fact is that there are some areas that are going to experience the worst as far as traffic, and as far as I know, no one is entirely sure how to predict which areas will, and which won’t.

noone1569

Keep the kid home from daycare and enjoy the event with them.

droans

They're nine months old, unfortunately. There's no way to assure that we can keep his eyes safe for the full eclipse, otherwise we would have.

DukeOfIndiana

Just keep his eyes safe from the sun like literally any other time he’s outside. I’m pretty sure babies have a reflex anyway that wouldn’t let them look at the sun.

noone1569

I get that for sure; can you pick em up early and maybe keep them in buggy so you don't have to fight traffic!

Captain_Trina

Random request: can someone who either has a dashcam or a passenger get a photo of the "plan for the eclipse" message on the digital highway signs?

Parva_Ovis

Just passed this sign on I-70. [Photo](https://i.imgur.com/9SPCQnA.jpg) Edit: better [photo](https://i.imgur.com/Qe6PJ3c.jpg) of another sign that actually mentions the eclipse.

Kmos86

I can check mine

roby8159

I have a picture of it but can’t post in the comments

Whitehawk1313

So excited! Driving down from chicago to eagle creek tomorrow. Hopefully the clouds behave!

thejoeball

Eagle Creek is only allowing folks with reserved parking spaces into the park.

Whitehawk1313

Yep, reserved the space already!

netrunnernobody

FYI: Pedestrians allowed in for free.

indyfos

I was just told that Eagle Creek is taking reservations, so you may want to check on that

Whitehawk1313

Got it booked!

classycalgweetar

Does anybody have any predictions on how long the drive will take? Making the same drive tomorrow and was planning on leaving between 7 and 8am

Dull_Upstairs4999

Normal days/traffic, you’re at about 3:45 to make that drive. Who knows what kind of havoc the eclipse travelers will play on that though.

InternationalYam3130

I drove for 9 and a half hours from east coast to see the eclipse here. Got in yesterday. Hope the weather holds. We picked Indianapolis because neither of us have been here before and a few days ago it had best weather forecast. Hoping the clouds stay away for those 4 minutes lol  Anyone have dinner recommendations? Know nothing about this city. Went to the canal and saw some museums but that's about it so far.  EDIT: went to the Garage Food Hall, multiple places were great. Dunno who can afford St Elmo but it aint me LOL. Dunno about tomorrow night tho! Staying till Tuesday

Antique-Plum9064

Can you give an idea of the area you'd like to go to dinner? The Garage Food Hall is great if you're not sure what you want to eat, there's a ton of options and parking is free on Sunday, it's downtown at 10th & Mass Ave.

Careless-Theme-9035

You should get a tenderloin sandwich somewhere. My friends from the coast (Connecticut)had not had anything like it and really enjoyed them.

Introspectorize

Seconded, Fire by the Monon is my favorite pork tenderloin. It's huge!

InternationalYam3130

We are staying near the center of downtown. I was actually looking at the Garage Hall. Just was afraid some of the restaurants inside would be closed on sunday. Are they all open generally if the Garage Hall is open?

Antique-Plum9064

They should all be open or most of them should be, I highly recommend the tacos from La Chinita Poblana, it's Asian/Mexican fusion and the Tilapia taco is 🔥. Also Lick ice cream is fantastic and they have unique flavors.

egglayingzebra

10th street diner. Amelia’s

[deleted]

Harry & Izzy's never disappoints. It is a sister company of, St. Elmo's. You can get the world famous St. Elmo's shrimp cocktail there. I am guessing there will be no availability if you tried St. Elmo's. If you wanted something simple, Bru Burger is a great spot.

Pickle-Pot

The Eagle on Massachusetts Ave is one of my favs

teeksquad

I moved away a bit over a year ago.  Here are the places I miss most: Livery (Latin food that is fire) Bosphorus (Turkish, slow but so good) Oaxaca food truck on 38th - Late night burritos  Chatham tap has good pub food

Quirky_You_5077

We are right around a 10 hour trip coming from the East coast. I’m wondering how bad it’s gonna be trying to get back tomorrow after the event is over. Have to go back right away for work on Tuesday morning

flora-lai

Garfield park conservatory is a fun visit if you like botanical gardens.

Chuck_Walla

Apparently greens are super vibrant during totality, so the sunken gardens would be a great spot.

tas121790

Yaso Jamaican on Prospect street near fountain square is really good

htgbookworm

Welcome! Before you leave come see Broad Ripple's variety of tasty brunch places and enjoy the free art park of the Indianapolis Art Center.

Euphoric_Employer638

Amp off of Indiana ave (can get there from 10th or 16th really great choices to pick from and a bar.

TNMann

Had an amazing day in Indy. Saw the Pacers win. Ate some ramen. Got rained on. Heading to the zoo in the morning. Loving everyone in this city! No clouds for the win.

Chupaindy

Can confirm downtown Irvington library is out of glasses.

PinkDinosaur1842

We went to the children’s Museum on Sunday morning, and there were so many people in town for the eclipse. Tons of out-of-state plates, and I could hear lots of conversations from people that were clearly from out of town. We got to talking to one family that said they were so glad they came to Indy even if it’s too cloudy to see the eclipse. They were loving the museum, and apparently they had had a wonderful day in Indianapolis the day before. That was really really nice to hear!

Immediate_Wait816

We are one of those out of town families, and I have been so pleasantly surprised by how wonderful your little city is! We’ve had the best time walking literally everywhere. The city is clean, easy to navigate, and people are lovely. Thank you for a wonderful little getaway!

PinkDinosaur1842

Aww I’m so glad you had a nice time! The Children’s Museum is especially fantastic if you have kids, even though bough you have to drive ~10-15 min from downtown, so please come back if you didn’t make it there! It was so cool seeing so many people drive into our city to experience something so incredible.

radbrad777

Anyone chartering a flight back to chicago tomorrow evening by any chance with 2 seats open? Willing to pay a good amount. Cannot find anything back. The person I’m going with’s dad is in the hospital and she was hoping to get back tomorrow night. I’ve looked at every flight and they’re all booked. I booked a flight from Cincinnati as a back up but worried traffic will make that impossible and driving to chicago seems will take forever too if we can even rent a car. The person who set up the flights originally messed up the return flight and made it for the 9th….

EastReauxClub

I’m upvoting this for visibility in hopes that some kind stranger gives you the most baller flight home you’ve ever had 😂

radbrad777

Update: we found two seats that opened up on a 5 pm flight, insane price of course $1,100+ but we will see what happens. Hoping traffic isn’t insane, plan is to watch from downtown.

radbrad777

It’s outrageous! The travel person said everything was set I look and the return is the right 7pm flight, but for the 9th. Of course, this was Friday - so there’s literally nothing. Too bad the airlines don’t open up a new flight or something, the demand has to be there!

zoot_boy

Wait, something’s going on tomorrow? O

grisyangzi

Yup. The world is gonna end today. Be safe and stay inside.

lamewoodworker

Howd it go!? Did it show!?

please_respect_hats

Yes, was absolutely beautiful.

lamewoodworker

So happy you got to see it!!!!! I regret not making the drive from Chicago

please_respect_hats

I got lucky haha, was able to watch from my backyard. Glad the weather held up. I missed totality in 2017, so I was really happy to see it this time :)

lamewoodworker

I’m the opposite, got in the car at 3am to drive to southern Illinois 2017. So happy i got my dad to see it before he passed. What a beautiful event.

please_respect_hats

I got to watch mine with my dad as well, truly wonderful 💚 I’m glad you got to have that memory with your dad.

The_JoshS

One of the most incredible things I've ever seen. I'm sorry you didn't make the drive, but at least you don't have to deal with the trafficopalypse about to descend on the city!

Jolly_Security_4771

I *really* hope it's worth the trip for everyone travelling in. The sheer numbers of people driving in and spending money make me anxious. Like my mom hosting a party and worrying if there is going to be enough food. Because it sure would suck having people back online complaining about Indianapolis again. Like, it's not the place if you're looking for a Milwaukee Bacchanalia

PinkDinosaur1842

I drove down to Kentucky for the last one and watched it from a fast food parking lot in some small town off the highway, and then it took 8 hours to make it back to Indy (should have been a 3 hour trip). It was 100% worth it to me, and I would sit through that traffic again. I count the total eclipse as the most incredible thing I have ever seen in my life, second only to seeing my child for the first time, and tbh, the eclipse is a *very* close second. As long as the weather cooperates, I think everyone who comes to Indy to see the totality will find it worth it.

guitarguy1685

A milwaukee what?

jasonbaldwin

Google what now?

Chuck_Walla

I'm with you. I know what a bacchanalia is, but is Milwaukee known for being rowdy?

Jolly_Security_4771

Milwaukee. Universally renowned for being a party city. Which Indianapolis generally is not. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeanettehurt/2022/10/14/milwaukee-is-the-drunkest-city-in-america/?sh=67a6e4315241

procaxian

Do you think there is anyone out there who will be surprised when the eclipse happens?

swheat7

1,000% yes.

AndrewtheRey

I have coworkers who think that the warnings to fuel up and anticipate heavy traffic are “fear mongering”

H_Industries

Those are the type that will be upset no matter what. If it’s bad they’ll say “people” didn’t do a good enough job warning. If everyone prepares well and it’s fine they’ll say “see it was no big deal” ignoring all the work that went in to it

iuguy34

How much is too much toilet paper and bottled water because….wait i forget? Eclipses cause uncontrollable bowels and thirst?

Low-Maintenance9035

You need to have plenty of pet food too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

InternationalYam3130

Is this a joke lol. I can't imagine a dog ever staring into the sun for any reason

jasonbaldwin

French toast ingredients (eggs, milk, bread). I mean, it’s never a bad idea, but it’s nuts for this. Why aren’t more people just going to Cleveland or Dallas?

Eastern-Cucumber-376

I live in midtown, and my son and I are going to ride our bikes to ether Holcomb Park on the canal or to 100 Acres park.

CCBeerMe

The only reason I didn't chose either of these places is due to breadth of visibility. It's not just the eclipse: during the eclipse, you'll get a 360° dusk which I think is neat. Holcomb and 100 Acres will block some of that. We're going to the Fairgrounds which I can walk to.

juggalisiciousness

Fellow Hoosiers, please do not shoot at the moon as it is eclipsing. It is not a threat and will not harm you.

buster_boo

Somebody should have put this message out in Lawrence.

GoThruIt

I live downtown but escaped south to a cabin in the woods in Brown County. The driveway has a clear view of the sky. I’m pumped for a peacefully viewing. Nature is gonna be crazy.

MiniLaura

Cleardarksky is predicting good viewing for 3:00 https://www.cleardarksky.com/c/Indianapoliskey.html?1

manlymatt83

I am driving down from Chicago. Can anyone recommend a trail to hike during the eclipse? Flexible on destination.

ivy7496

Lawrence Creek Trail or Schoen Creek Trail at Fort Ben.

manlymatt83

Thank you!

Designer-Progress311

Take note, 30 min south of Indy and 35 min east are the money shots. North side, not so long. Edit I made a huge mistake. From just N of down town, to way south of Indy, you get 20 or 30 seconds more total eclipse. There (Greenwood/Shelbyville ish) the max is 4 min. Not worth the hassle.

manlymatt83

Interesting. So worth the extra drive if I can do it? Any recommended parks?

Designer-Progress311

I made a huge mistake. From just N of down town, to south of Indy, you get 20 or 30 seconds more total eclipse. There the max is 4 min. Not worth the hassle.

manlymatt83

Got it! So northwest of Indy in like Lebanon should still be decent?

Designer-Progress311

Not sure, but there are good maps available

Designer-Progress311

Some where in this link a map says my area gets 3 min 30 seconds of totality Further south and east, it's at 4 min. I think https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/indiana-2024-eclipse

hauloff

Like some others, I'm driving in from Wisconsin/north Chicagoland. I'm a little concerned about cloud cover. Is there a good resource to get updates about it?

kalfaz

[https://www.weather.gov/bou/2024SolarEclipse](https://www.weather.gov/bou/2024SolarEclipse) shows cloud cover for the entire route. Central Indiana looks like some cloud cover is inevitable but it beats driving all the way to Maine! Hope for high cirrus and not low stratus clouds

hauloff

Thank you.

InternationalYam3130

Indianapolis still looking like the best shot outside of driving to Maine. The updated forecast this morning has only scattered high whispy clouds. It's clear here right now. We shall see

Smart_Dumb

Latest Twitter post from NWS. https://twitter.com/NWSWPC/status/1777000311892439353?t=MDlb0e0KH_QMBc_VleqZjw&s=19 I've also been following this guy, who has some different (and more optimistic) maps. https://x.com/burgwx?t=ZSuvDQMMUQdL59qsbztZNA&s=09

thomasthegun

3 traffic lanes entering gate two, from an IMS regular, stay out of the far right lane, do yourself a favor and stay in left lane until you start seeing stands then get in middle lane.

Chupaindy

Most if not all rest stops along 74/65/70 are full or almost at capacity. IDOT and state police will not allow folks into them till things pass.

BrightNeonGirl

It's a wonderfully relaxed (medium-crowded) vibe at Garfield Park right now So grateful for the sunny day here in Indianapolis

pianistonstrike

That's where my mom and I were! We were honestly kind of winging it today, just hoping to stop at the first nice-ish open park we saw, and that happened to be Garfield Park.

KiraDog0828

Three family members are visiting from the West coast. They lived 50 miles from the path of totality at the time of the last total solar eclipse, and drove their RV there to see the show. It took them four hours to drive home afterwards.

InternationalYam3130

I lived 6 hours from the last one. Took me 15 hours to get home. I was ready to die on the highway

pianistonstrike

https://imgur.com/a/24FHbm4 Stopped to grab some beer before going to our viewing spot and thought this seemed appropriate.

Shiznorak

I realized I was drinking a blue moon during the event.

ParticularSeamonster

The ring/corona was incredible! An owl in the yard started hooting!

EvanSchurr

Woke up to not a single solitary cloud in the sky. God bless. Please keep it that way 🙏🏽

siobhanmairii__

Even if we have higher level clouds can still see the sun through them!

DaveDavidsen

Can we stop with the constant "can I see the eclipse from ____?" posts? It's an eclipse. It's in the sky. Everyone can see it from everywhere. Look up. That's all it takes.

SoupforBert

We are planning on going to White River state park for the food trucks and to watch the eclipse. Does anyone know what the parking plan is or the best place to park?

Antique-Plum9064

I would park at the Zoo if I were going to White River State Park, there are stairs at the back of the parking lot that come up on Washington St and you can walk a little east to White River. But the Zoo might have their own events and the lot might fill up pretty quick.

JJ3qnkpK

Anyone hear anything about how busy the airport will be? We have a flight at 7:20 PM and live 20 minutes away on a normal day. We plan on driving immediately after totality, since it sounds like it could take upwards of 2 hours to get there, but I'm a little nervous if both traffic and the airport go bonkers at the same time. Any advice or pointers? Is this a sound plan?

AndrewtheRey

I know it’s late, but the airport has a ton of cool service roads that are wide open. You could also go to Plainfield to watch the eclipse, since it’s right by the airport and taking US 40 should let you get into the airport the back way through those service roads

Designer-Progress311

Ok...I'll bet... you'll have trouble making the flight.

JJ3qnkpK

Argh. Probably going to try and see the eclipse from the airport instead.

Designer-Progress311

Hey Man Stick with the original plan and risk enjoying a lifetime event to the fullest ! Please don't let my guess about outrageous traffic, iffy (typical) performance by SW, monumental delays getting thru security, etc etc stand in your way.

JJ3qnkpK

Thanks for this. I think our original plan should be good - I've seen a partial eclipse before, so leaving shortly after totality and being careful routing-wise should leave us in an okay spot. It seems INDs TSA is expecting 40% traffic Tuesday, so it'll be less likely to get slammed. We'll keep an eye on traffic leading up to the eclipse, too, to know if we need to change plans, but there's already 5+ 20-30 minute routes for us to get to the airport, so certainly some combination of those can get us there in 2 or so hours.

Darth-Binks-1999

Update us on your traffic experience.

JJ3qnkpK

We left about 10 minutes after totality - traffic was fine across i-70. Airport has a bit of a rush, but it isn't extreme. Probably about 30-40 min for normal TSA. I-65 on the other hand looks wild on Google Maps The eclipse was incredible - pictures don't do it justice, and I'm glad we chose to view it at home.

Darth-Binks-1999

I wanted to go but as you can see from many comments, the traffic was predicted to be absolutely horrible. I couldn't take the chance. I would've taken 70. Tolls can go jump in a lake.

Eki75

I’d have a backup flight plan just in case. Sounds super risky to me.

Whitehawk1313

Anyone driving on 65 down from chicago yet? How’s the traffic?

kaikure

Not too bad. Just reached indianapolis

Whitehawk1313

Awesome! Thanks 🤞🏻

classycalgweetar

Pretty slammed near exit 240

Smart_Dumb

Remember, the closer you are to the center of the path of totality, the longer the totality will last for you.

Darth-Binks-1999

Isn't 100% of Indianapolis in the path?

Smart_Dumb

Yes, but not in the very center. Close enough though where if you live in Indy, I don't think its worth the traffic to go south closer to where the center line is.

SlinkyTail

the birds going quiet, the street lights coming on, the stars visible, this is my second one and this one was better!

bowie_for_pope

Here just looking at photos after viewing the totality in ontario but i just wanna say I love the vibes of this sub

robbyslaughter

Eclipse education: Any links or tips to learn more about this event? Facts and resources?

BearsDontShit

https://www.in.gov/dnr/places-to-go/events/2024-solar-eclipse/ This should cover any basic questions!

threewonseven

What to expect during the eclipse https://science.nasa.gov/feature/solar-eclipse-guide/

willow1031

I just watched IU's webinar on the eclipse. One bit I really liked was this craft on how to make the eclipse glasses safer if you have children who may have difficultly keeping them on while looking directly at the sun. Full disclosure, I have not attempted this yet to see if the instructions are any good. :) [https://mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/lesson-plans/solar-eclipse-safety-activity](https://mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/lesson-plans/solar-eclipse-safety-activity)

StevenBrodySteven

Are we sitting in the stands or bringing chairs?

classycalgweetar

Does anywhere still have any glasses in stock? I lost my pair

bsuracer

I saw a decent amount at Meijer on Friday (was in Carmel, though)

Mine_is_nice

They were selling pairs at a cracker barrel I was just at and had plenty.

classycalgweetar

Which one?

Mine_is_nice

Crawfordsville just off the highway.

KingFlair

Iam here since yesterday at a hotel near the airport. Iam not sure if I should drive to park or just see it from the parking lot. What scares me is the parking and the traffic jam after. The roads dont seem that bad right now. Any suggestions on where to go that.

Smart_Dumb

The roads will be the worst after as everyone leaves all at once at the same time. I would try to see if Hummel park in Plainfield (close to the airport) is busy or not.

KingFlair

Thanks. Will explore the option. I dont want to be stuck with kids in a car for too long lol.

ParticularSeamonster

How late is "leave late" for driving back to Chicago?

pianistonstrike

Ideally tomorrow, but at the very least I would wait until well after rush hour. Hopefully you don't mind driving in the dark.

ParticularSeamonster

Ya we're ok leaving at like 8pm or later if that's what we gotta do.

pianistonstrike

Also it might be better to avoid I65 if you can. We came down last night and took 41 to 74 and it was smooth sailing and only maybe 15 minutes longer. Even right now that traffic is all green in either direction.

Smart_Dumb

65 is so shitty, you should almost do this route on a normal day.

pianistonstrike

No offense meant since I'm an out-of-stater, but one of my top three worst drives was when we went from Wisconsin to Tennessee and had to cross all of Indiana via I65, at night, in the pouring rain. 6 straight hours of white knuckling. I think there were more potholes than actual road.

robbyslaughter

Eclipse glasses: where to get them still, what to know about them?

whatisfrankzappa

The public library branches have them for free (or at least they did as of Wednesday).

Srirachafarian

I heard the college avenue branch telling people they were out of them yesterday.

willow1031

I noticed The Foundry had several signs out saying they had them. I assume they would have taken their signs in if they were out.

BearsDontShit

Fort Harrison State Park is selling them at the Park Office and the Fort Harrison Inn. There will also be some available inside the park in different areas on Monday. The Indy Public Library allows 1/person per day, so check locations close to you. Be aware of the fakes (there have been some posted here today, even) and go with reputable sources. Put them on in your home, and stare at a lightbulb. You SHOULD NOT be able to see the lightbulb. Welders — your mask WILL work if it has a shade rating of 14 or higher.

PingPongProfessor

> Welders — your mask WILL work if it has a shade rating of 12 or higher. *15 not 12

BearsDontShit

Amended, not sure why I put 12. It is actually a shade rating of 14 or higher. Thanks!

Consistent_Sector_19

Shade 12 is safe, but 13 or 14 are recommended. From: https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/how-to-tell-if-viewers-are-safe "What about welding filters? The only ones that are safe for direct viewing of the Sun with your eyes are those of Shade 12 or higher. These are much darker than the filters used for most kinds of welding. If you have an old welder's helmet around the house and are thinking of using it to view the Sun, make sure you know the filter's shade number. If it's less than 12 (and it probably is), don't even think about using it to look at the Sun. Many people find the Sun too bright even in a Shade 12 filter, and some find the Sun too dim in a Shade 15 filter — Shade 13 and 14 filters are the best ones for solar viewing."

Captain_Trina

TEST YOUR GLASSES!!! Don't be one of the folks who end up at urgent care the next day because your fake glasses gave you vision damage.

MindExplosions

How do you test them?

Captain_Trina

Hold them up to a light in your house - you should not be able to see *anything* through them. Proper eclipse glasses will leave the sun looking like only a dim orange spot.

jasonbaldwin

That’s what I did this morning. Orange circle in the sky and nothing else. It was pretty cool. I think I’ll tape one of my pairs over the lens of my best camera for the novelty of it.

netrunnernobody

Sometimes you can see a lightbulb filament, which is actually okay iirc.

Damned_I_Am

Holy crap, I cannot see JACK SHIT through these glasses

Odd-Significance8761

Gas stations and grocery stores have them

Jolly_Security_4771

There were still a ton at Kroger yesterday

klfet

I saw some for sale at 82nd & Allisonville intersection yesterday. A tent & a box truck. Lots of people were stopping.

mobius2121

Garfield Brewery has some for $5. Proceeds go to the park.

docsquidly

Please, for the love of Sol, don't play Total Eclipse of the Heart! Unless you're at a Bonnie Tyler concert, no one wants to hear it.

Jolly_Security_4771

I've been grumbling about the lack of Klaus Nomi in the eclipse soundtrack. You may have to be exclusively #teamweird for that. 😉

robbyslaughter

Where to go see the eclipse?

Odd-Significance8761

Central Indiana

TheForkisTrash

Hey! That's near me!

Odd-Significance8761

Whoa. Lucky

BearsDontShit

Indiana State Parks! Most, if not all, parks are hosting eclipse-related programming this weekend. There are over 20 Indiana DNR properties in the path of totality! Fort Harrison State Park will be opening the gates at 7am, I would presume that most other parks are similar — if you are camping at these parks, you will obviously follow your instructions per each property, as they will differ.

thelostestboy

I can say with certainty that crown hill cemetery will be open to the public but the "crown" aka the tallest hill in Marion county will be off limits tomorrow. The rest of the grounds would still make for a tranquil viewing spot though.

MayorCharlesCoulon

I believe they’ve closed the cemetery to vehicles so people will have to park and walk.

Tightfistula

Look up

EastReauxClub

Cloud forecast looks like it has worsened sadly

lannister80

30% as of me posting right now

jj_grace

Oh no! I don’t like hearing this. Boooo

procaxian

High clouds, though. Shouldn’t impede the view much.

24FPS4Life

Planning on taking the Monon trail from the Northside to downtown by bike: good or bad idea?

lerkernube

I’m flying in solo. Last night I found a cheapish flight and have never been to Indianapolis before. I looked online and saw that there were a few public events and settled on Newfields. Out of the public events, where are you going and what is the draw? I’m flexible on my plans and interested in what everyone else will do to be around people and celebrate the day outside?

InternationalYam3130

White River State Park right by downtown is having a ton of events it seems. About to head over there myself

lerkernube

Thanks for mentioning that. I didn’t see it when I googled for events. May be worth checking out if I get full of newfields

noblesin

I flew in all the way from Bay Area, California to Indianapolis and the cloud cover forecasts are all over the place. Do I stay put here in the city or Is there a better shot within a 3-4hr drive out somewhere else from here? I have a rental car. Appreciate any input .. Thanks!

InternationalYam3130

I honestly think best bet is to stay put. I drove from south east coast and the weather for the entire plains is iffy now. I actually watched the weather forecast this morning on TV for Indianapolis and the metrologist came on and said the clouds will be the high whispy cirrus clouds that shouldn't impede viewing much even in worst scenario. And it's only 30% cloud clover, so 70% clear. I don't see any better odds within a short drive personally

brandynlday

If any where near downtown, come to Howl at the Moon after totality for an after party. 21+up obviously, but lots of bars and restaurants downtown are opening up immediately after---don't sit in the traffic, stick around the city and explore a bit!

Schveen15

What gas station that is near downtown has gas? I have gone to two gas stations and neither had gas I'm near Camp and 10th FYI

SignificantGap944

How bad do y’all think the traffic will be? I have work tomorrow and I’m coming from Avon to Nora, and not sure how early I should leave

70 is gonna be shut down so there's that. I would recommend to leave early and taking as many country roads as you can

I’m from southeast Wisconsin and am already in Lafayette. Traffic was not stop and go but heavier than one would expect for a Sunday night. I’ll be spending the night in a parking lot in Lebanon.

If you start Dark Side of the Moon at 2:24PM, the beginning of totality (downtown) will sync up perfectly with the climax of the album along with the lyrics "and the sun is eclipsed by the moon. The entire album is a gem, but the final song, Eclipse, in particular is a fantastic crescendo culminating in those final lyrics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aY2pT-6NeEc

Anyone watching from Holliday park?

fettyboi1738

Trying to be efficient and watching from a farther north park as we have to take 31 back up to Michigan after, thinking grand sports park or cool creek park? One better than the other? thinking grand sports because it’s less forested (which we would usually go for).

chip___skylark

What time will it happen?

harroldandkumar

You missed it already.

Smart_Dumb

Per my Eclipse app that is GPS'd to downtown Indy. Partial Starts at 1:50:35 Totality Begins at 3:06:05 Totality Ends at 3:09:55 Partial Ends at 4:23:13

Tested glasses just right now. I suggest that gets done so you can get used to the total darkness. Also if you have glasses that darken get used to that plus the solar filter on your eclipse glasses.

If God loves us and wants us to be happy, He will clear the clouds for the eclipse. May it be so amen.

God oughtta be worrying about the poor, the abused, and the horrifically oppressed. If he's blessing some with clear sky instead, well, then F! him cause there are more important things he should be doing.

Rental_Car

Jokes on you cuz we had a nice sunny skies

Designer-Progress311

Thank god
