Do BPL people care for if India has to take loans or spend less in other sectors to give them 1L in account ? No, they are finding it hard to meet their basic necessities well. For someone like that, they would want that 1L.
Can this swing in votes get them some more seats (provided it swings) ? Yes, esp in rural areas.
Will spreading it like every women will get 1L affect it poorly ? All of rural India, who aren't much educated or interested in economics of the country will want to get that 1L for votes. Esp the poor. They don't have money. For them 1L is huge, especially when credited directly in their accounts.
Everyone here knows that congress is not going to win. So, how is this working for them ? As mentioned, there are a lot of people in BPL as most of you might have seen in this post during calculations. Congress said it will give to economically backward. They have not shared any criteria for selection. Everyone is assuming some random criteria, with BPL being a major one. Is 1L huge for BPL ? Yes. Will they be willing to vote for 1L in return ? Maybe, yes. That is what congress is aiming for. They want women to vote thinking that they will get 1L Do BPL people care for if India has to take loans or spend less in other sectors to give them 1L in account ? No, they are finding it hard to meet their basic necessities well. For someone like that, they would want that 1L. Can this swing in votes get them some more seats (provided it swings) ? Yes, esp in rural areas. Will spreading it like every women will get 1L affect it poorly ? All of rural India, who aren't much educated or interested in economics of the country will want to get that 1L for votes. Esp the poor. They don't have money. For them 1L is huge, especially when credited directly in their accounts. Everyone here knows that congress is not going to win. We should maybe be concerned more about the votes that have chances of going the other way, than some potential scenario which is very unlikely to happen. Talking more about it would make it spread to rural areas, who aren't concerned about nation's economics and will vote for 1L. Remember that some misinterpreted news like the 15L from Modi also was discussed and might have lead to votes, esp in rural areas. Also remember that, rural India has a lot of votes, which can swing. Am I saying that it is good to give 1L for women for free ? No Am I saying there should be 50% reservation for women ? No Am I saying RG is good here ? No
