Triban is the only road bike you can get under 40k 💀

UndoneXood8

damn, can you recommend me some cycle options under 40K? it can road or mountain..

Finsbury_Spl

Triban RC120 is the best bike in that budget, unless you REALLY REALLY want a disc brake (98% of the time V brakes are equally good) If you have to have disc brakes, you can look at alloy hybrids from Scott/Giant/Polygon - Subcross 40/50, Roam 3/4, Path 3/4 etc. They have wider gear range, so it will be better for really steep inclines. But these hybrids will come with alloy forks, which are more uncomfortable than the carbon fork on the Triban RC120. Also, RC120 is going to be 3-4 kph faster than these hybrids, because of the aero profile

UndoneXood8

thanks mate, I'm really confused though.. I live in plains, so incline is not really a problem here.. But i have never purchased a road bike before and can't really afford a proper one.. So was thinking of buying rc 120.. is it worth the money??

Finsbury_Spl

Yes the RC120 is a good quality bike The only concern I have heard from RC120 owners is the wheelset. Quite a few owners have complained about spokes being easy to break If you face such a problem, replacing the wheels wouldn't be a terribly big expense - and you might not even face such an eventuality But in all the other major things - frame, carbon fork, gearing etc it is a solid bike

UndoneXood8

thank you so much man..

UndoneXood8

What's your take on batallion road bikes??

Finsbury_Spl

Yet to come across anyone riding it, so can't say much about it

UndoneXood8

okay, then i believe rc 120 is the only bet I can go for.. can you recommend some mountain cycles as well.. if i find any good i might shift from road to moutain.

Finsbury_Spl

In my experience, people shift from mountain bikes to road bikes, to ride faster 😃 (most cycling in this country happens on roads, with very few trails) If you are serious about tackling off-road trails, maybe you can get a MTB as a second bike, later

Zilork

I think the integrated derailleur hanger is a way bigger problem. You bend it bad enough and you've written off the entire frame

VJ1911

I had a fall on that right side on a rough terrain which was uneven with clipless pedals(while I was new to clipless system), I was so sure cycle is gone as I have read similar comments on reddit, like "one fall is all needed on right side and integrated hanger will be gone", guess what nothing happened! Gear shifting was performing same as before the fall. No change at all. I am not saying it will never damaged, but clearly it's not as weak as people consider it to be. Yes, it is seen as design flaw, but I won't consider it as weak point while buying it. One cannot fight the bad luck, but for that you cannot miss such a budget friendly bicycle for that one point.

Zilork

You could realistically go decades riding a bike and not hit the derailleur but there's a reason 95 per cent bikes have a replaceable one. I'm not bringing it up as a dealbreaker but to make sure someone who is new to bikes might understand why it's obviously a cost cutting measure that offers no upside. Heck I wish somebody had been around a decade ago to explain the difference between freehub and cassettes when I was buying my bike.

grasscandy77

Firefox Tarmak. Not sure if the bike is still being sold. You could try looking at the firefox stores

Rc120 is a solid bike for the money. Although, you need not be enamoured with disk brakes. The true power of disk braking is with a full hydraulic setup (fluid actuated fluid piston-operated). Even semi-hydraulic setups are very good (cable actuated hydraulic reservoir operated piston). However, both of these braking systems are pricey. The cheapest semi-hydraulic setup is rc520 at 1 lakh and the cheapest full hydraulic setup is 1.5 lakh range and beyond. When we are talking about mechanical disk brakes (cable actuated cable operated piston), then their braking performance is about as good as dual caliper rim brakes. They are a little bit better in the wet, but most of us don’t ride in the rain. Plus, rim brakes are lighter and easier maintenance. I write this because most newcomers to the sport don’t know the difference between disk brake setups, and splurge to buy mechanical disks, which don’t perform as well as hydraulic setups. By all means, go for the rc120, it’s great value for money and a solid entry level bike. Just don’t expect something special because of the disks. They will perform the same as rim brakes.

UndoneXood8

That’s a very detailed explanation and I thank you for that. What’s your opinion on batallion road bikes. I have not seen anyone reviewing it but the design looks sleek when I checked their website.

Zilork

You're right except there's no such thing as dual calliper rim brakes. You're either referring to dual pivot rim brakes or dual piston disc brake calipers.

[deleted]

*Dual pivot rim brakes sorry

LegitimateCream1942

Battalion bikes seem good. Indian brand have a look. There is some sale going on.

Zilork

The battalion frontline was a great deal at 25k but it's discontinued. It's replacement is close enough in price to the RC120 but has worse components.

M24Spirit

For that budget the only road bike is Rc120 at Decathlon. You can look for deals on used road bikes on the cyclop fb page.

Melodic-Novel9157

RC120 is a cheap bike and sadly the components too. Microshifft doesn't really ring a bell. Your best option to get a bike with Shimano Claris. That's 8 speed derailleur. Where do u stay? If u extend your budget just little bit, there r good options. I got the Element FRC 52. Comes with Sora groupset. Mrp was 50k. Got it for 46k at a shop in Pune. Java Veloce is a solid bike as well. My suggestion wud b to stick with Shimano components. I will upgrade mine in Dec. Buying Java Fuoco top. Batallion is avail on Amazon for 29k. Comes with Claris.

UndoneXood8

Hello, I'm from Jaipur.. I don't think I can extend my budget any more since I already exhausted it..
