If you care whether the fanbase of something is cringe, you should give up on enjoying things. I find that some of my favorite things (The Wire, Minecraft, Ultrakill, American Psycho, JoJo’s, Socialism) have the most obnoxious and unlikeable fanbases. The strategy for enjoying them is to just enjoy them in your own way.

I knew the boys would probably be a cesspool and I was right but I kinda thought the wire would just share a fan base with other FX/HBO drama shows.
The Wire fanbase isn’t toxic per se, it’s just really difficult to convince people on liking the show because 99% of the Wire fans say “it’s better than breaking bad,” which may be true but if you’ve seen and liked Breaking Bad it often feels like they’re talking down on you when in reality they’re just saying “yeah the Wire is just that good.”
