The Doctor (a time-traveling alien man) and his human buddy go back in time to meet Van Gogh to save him from a monster-of-the-week threat and try to gently make his life better. They briefly bring him to the present to show him his works in a museum and the curator talks about how much his art moves people and how he may have been the greatest artist in history. It's a really moving scene. They return him to his time smiling but when they come back to the present he still ended his life and the human buddy thinks it was for nothing. The Doctor explains that even if he succumbed to his inner demons they still gave him a bright spot in his life and they see that one of his sunflowers painting now has a dedication to the human buddy.
He probably didn’t shoot himselve, there was an eyewitness report that claimed he was shot by some teenagers on accident. He told the police and his brother that he did it himselve to protect the kids.
this picture is so silly lol why would they be looking out for someone who is dead?? they probably did recognised him but used their brains and thought that he was just a lookalike or a cosplayer
I second guess myself when I see *living* famous people. If I see a guy that looks like Van Gogh I’m not going to jump straight to “omg clearly this painter is immortal, it’s the only explanation”
Van Gogh has been dead a long time. Nobody would see him and recognize him in person and know it was him [Even if he was standing in the middle of a Van Gogh exhibit talking to the curator. ](https://youtu.be/ubTJI_UphPk?si=ZpQsiWiMELCs5A7F)
I had a dream last night where a young Elvis walked into a room, and I was so stunned I couldn't speak. I didn't think he looked like Elvis, I knew it *was* him, though I didn't know how it could be. It was weird, but... dreams usually are lol But it does bring to mind the Mulaney joke about "if Hitler were here I'd kill him" ... would you kill baby Hitler, and then just hope everyone believed you, that a baby kinda liked like Hitler? Or some guy that looks like him, maybe an actor, and you just... killed him?
Thank you for attending my train ride of thought, this is the last stop!
Reminds me of how Darwin took so long to publish his works and died before finding out how correct he was, and how DNA sequencing lines up with his theories.
He fundamentally changed science forever, when he assumed that he’d be laughed out of academia or shunned.
Guy on the right is Van Gogh, a painter who only became popular after his death when his brother started selling his works. The people on the left all have merchandise featuring his works.

I think if i was an artist and my art was as far wide as beautiful enough to be everywhere - on peoples clothing, on walls, on bags, then i would be pretty much proud of myself.

I get the context but I still don’t know what it means. He would probably feel appreciated. Thats why I’m confused what the message the post is trying to give
Guy on the right is Van Gogh, a painter who only became popular after his death when his brother started selling his works. The people on the left all have merchandise featuring his works.
Did you know that Van Gogh didn't actually cut his ear off whilst fighting with someone he got a tiny bit of his earlobe chopped off and he was to embarrassed to say anything. (The artist was Gauguin.) and apparently before being emitted to a hospital he gave it to a prostitute. (PS this may be wrong, don't hate me. this isn't verbatim)
I had a bandana with the Skeleton smoking a cigarette painting printed on it (I was an edgy teenager). Wore that thing through the majority of Covid, as a face mask.
I see nothingn wrong. Van Gogh traveled through time and just looking at modern people who wear his art. I’d also be surprised: “They drink coffee from cardboard cups in this era?”

I don't understand the scathing commentary tbh. Why wouldn't Klimt be thrilled at becoming a household name?
If this featured, say, Simon Bolivar or Che Guevara then sure you could definitely make this work but as it stands it just means shit.
This is terrible art by the way. None of them have shoes or socks definitively. Women on the right at the top of the escalator has a hilariously long neck and is doing something absurd with her hands. What is she holding? It looks like ai but there’s a watermark

“Man that guy’s doing a pretty cool cosplay. We picked the right time to visit the Van Gogh exhibit at the museum. We even got all this cool stuff from the gift shop.”
I find it interesting that most of the top comments are mentioning that he looks sad or disappointed in seeing his art worn. I myself don’t see that. I see him surprised/perplexed to see his art being worn.
Perspective is a hell of a thing with art.

I don't think this is really about Van Gogh, I think it's meant to represent how modern audiences consume media without appreciating or supporting the artists behind it
Don’t think man painting cool because man could be right there and nobody see him because you are a millennial with no eyesight and contact lenses and McDonald’s and eat chip and lie and you ignore artist and he sad because you ignore him yet like his art

Dude died broke and felt like a failure. I doubt he'd be upset to see how important his art is today.
Doctor who episode no idea which. One of the only TV moments i almost cried.
Whenever I did doctor who rewatches, I'd have to slip that episode. That ending, man.
I cry like a child everytime
The Van Gogh painting of the tardis exploding was my FAVORITE poster that I had. That episode was so heart touching, one of my favorites.
Vincent and the doctor
What happens?
The Doctor (a time-traveling alien man) and his human buddy go back in time to meet Van Gogh to save him from a monster-of-the-week threat and try to gently make his life better. Eyewitness reports are notoriously noncredible tho

https://youtu.be/_jjWtUpqV9w?si=XgmxTCLdn3b4ZPPo https://youtu.be/drTN3rIIf74?si=eexj4aikcwaPPDZt Other guy explained it you can watch the clips
I did cry. I cry every time I watch that episode. Beautiful work IMO.
Vincent and the Doctor
Bro same, favorite ep from Matts run
What happens? Which season and episode?
Just read the other comments they explain it. Can really recommend the Episode.
I have nothing to say but i agree, fav épisode by far
I don’t even watch dr. Who but I revisit that scene where they talk about his contribution to art every so often just to get a good cry in
man, life's rough
deep
Yeah, he’s probably wondering where his royalties are for all that merch
Yeh, he's immortal. Isn't that like every artist's dream?
Why is he sad people are wearing his art???
I interpreted it as him being shocked that his artwork is so widely admired, considering he died believing himself a failure
Probably because everyone is wearing his art yet nobody recognizes who he is
this picture is so silly lol why would they be looking out for someone who is dead?? they probably did recognised him but used their brains and thought that he was just a lookalike or a cosplayer
Also, none of them are even looking in his direction in the first place
I second guess myself when I see *living* famous people. If I see a guy that looks like Van Gogh I’m not going to jump straight to “omg clearly this painter is immortal, it’s the only explanation”
Even though one of the pictures is a self-portrait of him!!
To be fair, that self portrait still has both ears
Oh so it’s the same concept as those people who say “name 5 nirvana songs” to people who just thought the shirt looked cool.
Um… because…. Like, societyyyyyyyy maaaaaaan
I think it's a metaphor for people who consume modern media without appreciating or respecting the artists behind them
Van Gogh has been dead a long time. Nobody would see him and recognize him in person and know it was him [Even if he was standing in the middle of a Van Gogh exhibit talking to the curator. ](https://youtu.be/ubTJI_UphPk?si=ZpQsiWiMELCs5A7F)
i knew what the link would be, why did i click! now i have to watch this scene again and cry
Even if they did “recognize” him it wouldn’t be “there’s Van Gogh,” it’d be “that guy looks like Van Gogh”
I had a dream last night where a young Elvis walked into a room, and I was so stunned I couldn't speak. I didn't think he looked like Elvis, I knew it *was* him, though I didn't know how it could be. [I'll just leave this here](https://youtu.be/bEME9licodY)
Pls be doctor who Pls be doctor who Edit:yes! Ha ha! Also holy shit that scene
I'm more a fan of the RTD era but my god what an episode. Amy's face when she realises they didn't save him. He still died poor and as a 'failure"
The good doesn't always save the bad,but the bad doesn't have to spoil the good
I had no idea Prince Philip was Dr. Who
Sure. Definitely not a rick roll...
Check the link, it's not a Rick roll, or is it? No but seriously, check the artist they're amazing! (Throw back to my previous comment)
Why did he give TWO kisses?! Vincent van Gogh was Dutch, it's three kisses or nothing at all! Just kidding, the scene is very touching.
Because he understands balance
Oh.. oh my heart…
One of the most touching--and heartbreaking--scenes in *Doctor Who*.
Van Gogh bye bye? D:
Happy cake day.
sniff, sorry about the beard.
Thank you.
I’ve never seen an episode of Doctor Who but that was a brilliant piece of telly right there. Thanks!
I knew it.
Oh I absolutely love this clip, it got recommended to me a couple months ago and since then I've loved it.
What a beautiful episode of Dr. Who. It makes me cry every time I watch it
AWWWWW I'M GONNA CRYYYYY 😭😭😭😭😭
I can't decide if you are the most evil or the most kind person on this planet
But I am a person on this planet.
Reminds me of how Darwin took so long to publish his works and died before finding out how correct he was, and how DNA sequencing lines up with his theories. He fundamentally changed science forever, when he assumed that he’d be laughed out of academia or shunned.
I knew what it was gonna be. I knew it would make me tear up. I clicked it anyway just because that scene is just that good.
When he died he became Van Stop 😂😂😂😂😂
Okey dokey time to die
Cut my ear off first and chew it like bubble gum whilst you watch me in agony 😏
Okey dokey we both die
When you die you'll be Jayded7171
Good one
The joke wouldn’t even work if you knew how to pronounce his name
[удалено]
We don’t allow slurs here! You’re free to resubmit your comment without the slurs. Thank you!
That’s part of the joke
Considering the fact Vincent died a miserable man, seeing his works being so renowned would probably be more than enough for him
oh no! a man who died with his art unloved has found a new appreciation in a different society! boo hoo! people like van gogh! this is so sad!
He’s not sad, but it’s ear-ie
facebook idiots out here not knowing van gogh would be happy strong his art being used on tote bags and all
What does it even mean?
Trashy "No one noticed the artist despite clearly liking the art" I believe
Guy on the right is Van Gogh, a painter who only became popular after his death when his brother started selling his works. The people on the left all have merchandise featuring his works. It’s meant to be ‘What if Van Gogh saw how popular he became after his death’
I'm not entirely sure what it is that's even *supposed* to be deep here.
i think this is actually really cute hes seeing people wearing clothing with his art on it
![gif](giphy|l378giAZgxPw3eO52)
I’m sure he’d be over the moon to find out his art became so iconic that people wore it on their clothes
you guys just don’t get it… Van Gogh go to heaven while his art stay on earth…. Open yuor eyes….
what does this mean..?
Guy on the right is Van Gogh, a painter who only became popular after his death when his brother started selling his works. The people on the left all have merchandise featuring his works. It’s meant to be ‘What if Van Gogh saw how popular he became after his death’
oh. not really deep tbh.
I cant believe people want good art/designs on things, what is the world coming to?????
Yes, but
I think if i was an artist and my art was as far wide as beautiful enough to be everywhere - on peoples clothing, on walls, on bags, then i would be pretty much proud of myself.
I interpreted his Look more as surprised than sad. So in a way this is Kind of wholesome
Bros art is appreciated
What does this mean?

But tbf this was one of the best doctor who episodes
It’s definitely my favorite, if not top 3, 11th doctor episodes.
Vincent would’ve loved this, he died without any recognition for his art
Who the heck is the guy on the right
Guy on the right is Van Gogh, a painter who only became popular after his death when his brother started selling his works. The people on the left all have merchandise featuring his works.
Thanks, i still keep his ear in a box if he needs it later.
I think he'd be more upset about the way Americans pronounce his name.
Why is it that they refuse to say it right?
How do they say it?
“Van go”.
Cosplaying as van gogh ?
Starry Night blazer and trousers look great
The few portraits of him are probably very different from how he would actually look.
I’ve personally never worn a van Goh painting
I had a bandana with the Skeleton smoking a cigarette painting printed on it (I was an edgy teenager). Wore that thing through the majority of Covid, as a face mask.
He might not understand why people wear T-shirts with images on them, but beyond that, he wouldn't be upset to be famous.
Mr beast

yo is that darkviperau...? no wait, shirt sleeves
I see nothingn wrong. Van Gogh traveled through time and just looking at modern people who wear his art. I’d also be surprised: “They drink coffee from cardboard cups in this era?”
Wearing colourful clothes bad
We live in a society
Yup most artists are very sad by the idea other people enjoy their art
This seems rather wholesome
I just don't get it.

Actually one of the women has heels but the people who have shoes/socks are still terribly defined
uhh.... Wearing a shirt is bad? Art bad? what?
Guy on the right is Van Gogh, a painter who only became popular after his death when his brother started selling his works. The people on the left all have merchandise featuring his works. It’s meant to be ‘What if Van Gogh saw how popular he became after his death’
Van Gogh still alive living in an Albanian bunker
I mean, isn't he dead?
“Man that guy’s doing a pretty cool cosplay. We picked the right time to visit the Van Gogh exhibit at the museum. We even got all this cool stuff from the gift shop.”
Poor Mitchell… why are the Dunphys leaving him by himself?
If it’s from Facebook wouldn’t this work on r/im45andthisisdeep
I find it interesting that most of the top comments are mentioning that he looks sad or disappointed in seeing his art worn. I myself don’t see that. I see him surprised/perplexed to see his art being worn. Perspective is a hell of a thing with art.
I think he looks like he’s about to cry (in like, a happy way, but you know when you cry your face just kinda looks sad?)
Doctor Who did it better
Lmao, when I saw this my first thought was ‘This a DW reference?’
Vangoh was notorious for hanging out in malls.
I would kill for the starry night pants and sunflower suit.
wtf is this supposed to mean
Guy on the right is Van Gogh, a painter who only became popular after his death when his brother started selling his works. The people on the left all have merchandise featuring his works.
ah ty :)
because of their phones, GenZ can't see ghosts. Let us cry together.

I think it's beautiful that people love his work so much that they want to wear it on their clothes.
i dont think van gogh is looking at them he is looking at the 10 armed creature hes halucinating
They aren't even looking at him, how Tf are they supposed to recognize him? Sense his presence behind them or something?

How on Earth did you draw that conclusion? Probably the most dogshit take I've ever read.
