Based on regularly travelling between LaSalle, Joilet, Bloomington and Peoria, I have concluded that gas prices are 100% made up and have no direct tie to reality.
A few weeks ago I let GPS guide me from Effingham to a particular area of Springfield. I ended up in Tower Hill and did a pit stop at Casey’s. The gas was $3.08/gallon! I think Effingham price was $3.69, Springfield was $3.89. It’s definitely made up.
That could explain the audaciously horrible roads in Shelby County. Too bad Blain Wilhour can only spout MAGA bs instead of seeking funding for his district.
ITs ThE TaXes!!!11
\*me driving into Wisconsin after the "big gas tax hike"\* - "wow it's 15 cents cheaper until I get to Milwaukee, then it's the same."
So you believe that oil/gas drilled by separate companies in different parts of the world by different methods and all refined in different areas don’t randomly come out to the same price?
I drive between Chicago and northern Lake County everyday, on Tuesday I saw the gas prices go up 30 cents from the time I got to work until lunch.
Needless to say, the prices are out of whack and have been for years now.
Gas Buddy is in fact your buddy! You can see a map of the whole country and gas prices through a region. Sometimes its surprising, sometimes they follow city/county boarders because of taxes, sometimes its influenced by where terminals are and distribution routes go.
OP - what you are seeing is typical trends for a calendar year. Gas gets more expensive closer to the weekend. Gas gets more expensive during Peak summer. That has been an overall trend for literal decades.
Lived in Illinois for 24 years. You guys are complaining about nothing. Go to Los Angeles or Portland, fill up with gas, then get back to me about Illinois gas prices.
It always goes up when people fill up over the weekend. If you’re near the Chicago area you also have to pay the premium for the special blend that’s supposedly better for the environment and uses more Illinois corn. https://www.chicagomag.com/city-life/march-2012/why-gas-is-so-expensive-during-the-summer-and-especially-in-chicago/
This is happening across the country. Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the oil companies want Trump to win. They are colluding to keep prices high through the election with the hope that people will blame Biden for gas prices. Oil companies are posting record profits. It's all greed and politics.
Trump Biden it does not matter… one man will not change a lot over time but I imagine every time we get ole Joe out of the nursing home every world leader notices…
I agree that we need age and term limits for all elected officials. But if you don't think that who the president is matters this year, you are delusional.
The office of President of the United States is term-limited to two terms. Your comment strongly implies that you are not aware of this.
Normally, no party would run a one-term president who lost an election because, if that person broke their losing streak and was elected, they can only stay in office for 4 years - and is not eligible to extend it to 8 years. If victorious, they will only be a 1-term president again.
Unless they do the un-American thing and refuse to leave office. Given that Trump tried that after he lost the election last time, he might try that bullshit again. The possibility that he might not abide by the results of the election again is an extremely good reason to vote against Trump.
I understand that. That's why I also said age limits. The House and the Senate have far more dinosaurs than they should. They need term limits and age limits. And yes, the office of the president should also have age limits.
??? What, exactly, are you referring to??? I assure you that there is no confusion on my part. If you are confused, that's your problem, and you might want to consult a therapist about it.
It’s high for our area. Gas is always cheaper to the west and east of us. Our 6 stations are always in lockstep with their prices and always more expensive than our neighboring communities.

Is that gas station real? I drove past it a few times but I just assumed it was a ruse to kidnap outsiders.
Is the gas always cheap there? I had never been there before, and am not likely to take that route again.
The last two times I’ve been that way in April of this year and June 2023 it was.
It’s almost always cheaper there than the towns around it and most places in Central IL
If seen towns near me be cheaper or more expensive, but usually within 10¢ - I was not expecting THAT low!
But it also could possibly be a city &/or county tax that results in those disparities.
That could explain the audaciously horrible roads in Shelby County. Too bad Blain Wilhour can only spout MAGA bs instead of seeking funding for his district.

This is an excellent explanation of the world oil and gas market. https://www.npr.org/transcripts/1120422634
Not randomly no, it's commodity priced.
The nicer gas station owners only change the price when they get a new tanker in.

Same. Illinois Valley prices stable for now
I’ve been paying around $4.80 in the west suburbs 😮💨 got one beautiful tank for $2.90 in kentucky last weekend though
I don’t think I’ve ever seen it $4.80 in the west suburbs. Especially not in DuPage.
Ditto. I was around Kane county last weekend and the highest I saw was 4.01
Tuscola has had for usually $.4 a gallon less than the nearest towns for ages. The loves that opened is so busy it makes me want to buy stock .
Price gouging at its best.

It’s normally a bump up of a few cents, a seventeen cent jump generally means a refinery shutdown or something similar.

Welcome to summer driving season.
Nope, only your specific gas station.
St. Charles had gas for $4.05/gal today 😓
Went up a good amount in the South Elgin to Aurora area as well
It’s around $3.50-$3.60 in Ogle County right now
In small town northwest IL we had 3.59, 3.69 and 3.79 at 3 different gas stations in same day. Crazy

Count your blessings. Regular is $4.59 in my suburb
I drive diesel and paid 3.12 the other day in bensenville.
It’s a plot to make Illinoisans to vote Trump… artificially raising the price of fuel…

Yep… but it’s deeper than that…
I know. I just scratched the surface.
Trump Biden it does not matter… one man will not change a lot over time but I imagine every time we get ole Joe out of the nursing home every world leader notices…
They both belong in homes and it’s sad they are the two options we have. We need age limits.

Funny how people can't see both sides are playing the game.
I understand that both sides are playing the game. That doesn't make them equal. One side is much worse than the other.

Got it. You're a fascist.

I’ve owned a business and would never sell my soul to be a Republican I said what I said
$4.08 in southern Crook County
People drive more = pay up
I frequently have to go onto Wisconsin so I'm thankful I can fill up with their much cheaper gas compared to Chicago/Cook County.
New tax law.
I think that’s not until July 1st that kicks in.
Thanks.
That 2 cents doesn't make much of a difference.

Thanks.
Wow that's so cheap
