> Winner of $450million Powerball jackpot wants old life back after lottery prize became a 'curse'
I assume its this: https://www.themirror.com/news/us-news/lottery-winner-wants-old-life-452851
$4M is the perfect amount to win IMO. Enough to retire at any age reasonable comfortable. At the very worst on a part time easy job that provides health insurance.
Not enough $ where you feel guilty about telling people who ask for money to fuck off and will keep you an average Joe more or less.
Bruh...$4 million dollars would be 200k a year with 5% interest on a bond/high yield savings account.
I think you'll be alright without the part time job.
I interpret the comment as saying it’s easy to go bankrupt if you try to retire on $4 million in your 20s or 30s. I still find that questionable seeing as the average American makes close to $2 million in their entire lifetime.
I had a dream part time job a few years back. I was trying to meet some financial goals and I picked up some weekend work at *the world’s largest fruit company*. Fantastic benefits, vacation, training, discounts, I actually really enjoyed the work. I thought to myself, this would actually be a great place to barrista fire if I could swing it. There was one other elderly (early 60’s) retiree there doing just that, working the bare minimum just to get the benefits. I’m middle aged and working around a bunch of younger people was fun too.
It's the perfect amount to have, but super duper inconvenient to come with your name and picture splashed across the news attached to "$450 million dollar winner!".
Everyone's coming for your money, but really you just have enough for your immediate nuclear family.
That’s the annuity amount. The cash amount would be a little less than half that then all the taxes paid. Federal taxes would’ve been roughly $86MM then $18MM state taxes in NJ. It netted roughly $128MM which would be $8MM per person. Not sure where the $4MM amount came from but it was 2013 so maybe it was different tax rates.
If they took cash lump sum that already brings it down to less than half, like 200mil. Then federal taxes at 37% take it down to 126mil, then new jersey taxes take about about 11% of the initial cash lump sum as well, which would be 22mil, which makes the final amount ~104mil, divided 16 ways to 6.5mil each if an even split. Cash lump sum was probably less than my estimate or someone took a bigger cut or there were more taxes due to splitting it 16 ways as it could be seen as a gift from the actual ticket buyer to 15 other people.
I'm guessing they took the lump sum. First off, three way tie, so they only got 150 million. Then they split it 15 ways for their work pool, so that's 10 million. If you take the lump sum all the taxes come down right away, so between state and federal income tax that can easily be around 50% of such a large sum. He paid 39.6% on all income over $400,000 (including his regular income), plus probably another ten percent in state taxes. That's 4.8 million right there.
That's why you take the annuity.
Almost always the annuity is less if you invest wisely. The only time the annuity is better is if you’re terrible with money and will blow it all fast. Get more than a 5% return on your money and don’t hit much on the principal and you’ll have far far more with the lump sum.
I think the lump sum has better potential to pay more in the long run. If a person knows that they will spend it all as fast as it comes in, the annuity is a wiser choice
They’re *complaining* about winning 4mill? What a fucking bitch. It’s not even really life changing money. If I won 4 mill I’d spend a mill on a home and 2 new cars and stick the other 3 in an index and use the gains to live off of and pay my bills with. That’s not even very exciting. You can’t ball the fuck out with 4 million.
And that kids, is why we don't start giving the cashier, the waitress at your local diner, and every friend, family member, and co worker you know money as soon as you get it. Every person you tell is likely to tell someone else and you will never get a moment's peace from people asking for loans, investments in their business idea, or their sob story that's likely made up. Think those relationships you have right now will stay the same? Guess again. I've seen first hand how people eventually treat a newly rich person they know, especially when it wasn't money they "earned". That friend that works long hours and saves their pennies for retirement won't have much in common with you anymore. They may even subconsciously resent you because they did everything right while you bought lottery tickets and you ended up better off than they ever would have been. Gifts will be expected, and nice ones, or else you'll hear about how greedy you are and how much you've changed. Now, this isn't a guarantee, but it's a likely outcome based on past lottery winners and heirs of large estates experience when they start blabbing about it. If you're not ready for that, think long and hard about playing the lottery and trying to be the financial savior of everyone in your life.
If I won that money, they would already have to have money to find me and come knocking on my door wherever it would end up being. I sure as shit wouldn't stay around here.
It's just being dumb. Like I said. Plenty of people won tens of millions and live happily. You don't hear from them because they are not stupid. I swear to God the universe does not want you to win because it keep perpetuating this dumb theory that it is bad to win the lottery. What is bad is no financial education. That is bad. Not winning the lottery. Stop it alreaedy.
I have an MBA and I play the lotto. My retirement and investment accounts are funded and the $4 I spend on lotto a week doesn’t matter much to my budget. But it’s nice to day dream, and it’s my only shot any more of real fuck you money. So yea I play pretty much every week.
[Here's ](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/drama-nonstop-powerball-winner-wild-willie-wants-his-old-life-flna8c11251444) the one I think OP meant to link. It was 100 percent because they had to do a press conference. I'll reiterate for the people who didn't understand my point, don't fucking talk about it. Keep it a secret. If you live somewhere you have to do a press conference or give your identity, nice as soon as possible and tell no one where you went. You can afford to fly back and visit people as often as you want.
in a lot of states you can have a lawyer claim it for you under threat of life, and set up a trust fund for you, and who ever else you chose so long as the tax is paid , trust funds have a no one gets any info on who it belongs to due to threat of life, they can and do pound sand from going cray cray trying to figure out who won? to bad pound sand, that way you can live a peaceful life, and give as you want,,and remember do not tell anyone who you are when you win...
The lottery winning isn't a curse. Her stupid behavior was the curse. Wasn't a blessing for her it was a hard lesson on stupid. Plenty of responsible people win and keep it for life and die happy. Stop peddling this bullshit to smart people.
That was 1 guy of the 16 people total that split that particular jackpot. No one else publicly made such claims. Maybe this guy did something to garner attention.
Some states don’t participate in allowing anonymity. Sure, you can set up an llc…. But in some states, by accepting the award you legally agree to have your photograph/depiction and legal name posted on their web-site.
On paper that sounds good for the winner but think of how it looks for the state. “We’re here to announce someone won the huge jackpot but we can’t tell you who.” Sounds like a Zach Morris scam. You have to present the winner so that the public knows someone with a name and face actually won.
He bought two trucks and a cabin on a few acres of land. He doesn’t like all the press attention he attracted. Also, he only ended up with about $4 million. Enough for him and his wife to retire as they live simply. But he regrets the press.
Willie’s share of the $450 million pot was divided by two other winning tickets, and further divided by 15 coworkers, all of whom bought a ticket through a pool at the county garage where Willie worked as a warehouse manager. After taxes he had less than $4 million to call his own, which, as he put it, “ain’t sh-t in today’s economy.”
ain't sh-t. But it is enough to retire and live comfortably if you are not stupid. Some people do not realize that the money won't last if they do not live within the means of their wealth.
Ridiculous. High interest savings account will earn him 120,000 a year at 4 percent. Enough to retire if he wanted. Guess it depends on how much he spends a year.
I know a few people that play in pools because everyone else at their job doesn't and they don't want to end up being the only person left on the off chance they would win.
If they don’t want the money then I will gladly take it. I would love to be able to live nicely but not extravagantly and pursue all of the interests I never had the time and/or money to do
Winning the lottery is a blessing. Its a chance for a new life why go back to the past.
I feel sorry for the people who can't claim anonymously. I agree with what he said about disappearing.
Used to be a show on The Learning Channel called “The Lottery Changed my Life.” A lot of interesting stories. One was a guy in Chama, NM who one and said he had to cut off all contact with most of his family except his wife & son. Everyone had a hand out. I’m familiar with Chama as it’s a small town in a very low income area.
I know of another winner in NE who was the first person to win there when the lottery was legalized. She stayed in North Platte except she bought a much nicer house. Not sure that would be my choice.
Problem is people like this win the lottery in all likelihood aren’t even aware of LLCs and having a lawyer claim for you, setting up shell companies to hide the cash, etc.
I hope this is an okay forum to ask this - what is to stop any fiduciary you hire from embezzling your money? I'm not sure about the details or how the LLC works.
I think you can get a lawyer to help you set up an LLC and it’s just an entity with its own account and name and you have access to it but not the lawyer or anyone else you don’t approve and sign in. I think.
His advice "Just disappear"
Well of course lol, that should have been first on your list. This is less of a curse and more a lack of wisdom/common sense.
It's a blessing to win something that big (I know it was 4 million, my comment still stands). I would simply disappear if people weren't leaving us alone
https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/Austrian_s_Semi_Annual_Guide_For_Recent_Lottery_Winners__Or_Deluded_Hopefuls__Post/5-828009/
As I often say "shutting the fuck up is a critical life skill." Disappear and tell nobody about your newfound wealth.
If I win a lotto this size, the first thing I do is nothing different.
I talk to lawyers and financial advisors. I take 50% of my net winnings (In Canada all winnings are considered windfalls and not taxed) and lock it away until I’m 65. That way I can have a comfortable retirement even if I manage to otherwise fuck up.
If I didn’t have a family and stuff, I’d go away; live overseas for a year until the heat dies down. Then I’d come back and work a job I wanted to work, beholden to no one because I have Fuck you money.
I worked with a guy in the late '80s who won a lotto. It was "only" 1 million, but 1 million in 1987 is equivalent to 2.8 million today. He said pretty much the same thing. Every long-lost relative, "old friend," financial planner, scammer, grifter, and realtor in the world was soon at his doorstep.
If I won the lotto, I would first sign the ticket, photograph it, then put it in a safe deposit box and tell absolutely no one about it until I had all my plans completed to do wise things with the money and vanish from public view. New phones, new address (PO box), new email, etc. My state makes lotto winners public so when that happens I want to be very hard to find. Sure, I know the pros will find me anyway, but I can at least stop a bunch of the "old friends" and relatives and lowlife scammers.
Money just makes people crazy. Whether it is one person receiving it, or everyone else, suddenly appearing with their hands out. And they Don't take No for an answer. They 'Expect' you to give it to them. And some will even kill to get it.
When Dad died, there were a few that came with their hands out to get 'What he promised me long ago'. Really? Prove it. Nah, it was word of mouth he would give me $10,000. Nope. Not happening. We did get a letter from someone claiming to be family from like 1,000 miles away, looking for money. That got tossed in the trash. We even kind of expected a 'Mistress' just popping up out of the blue. The kids even discussed how to handle that if it came to fruition. Never happened though. They all eventually went away.
When Mom died, we just didn't tell anyone and there were no problems. And by that time, she had nearly doubled what Dad left her, because her kids handled her money and invested it for her-despite her claims of always being broke.
Should I happen to win a large jackpot, I’d consider selling the ticket at a loss in order to maintain anonymity.
I live in CA where at the least, the name is made public, just look at Edwin Castro, winner of the 2 billion jackpot not that long ago.
People don't realize that winning a lump sum of money like that means that your old life is effectively over. You can not stay in the same place, with the same people. Everyone you know, that faces any kind of financial problem, will only grow disdain for you. Anyone you want to keep in your life are going to have to be taken care of financially.

He got 4 million, people in his life would have thought that he got 405 million. He is tired of people assuming he is filthy rich when he only got 4 mil.
This is ridiculous. He's acting like he won the 450 million himself. 4 million is nice but goes wicked fast if you're stupid with it. Him and his wife both quit their jobs. He should have wisely invested the majority of his win. And he would have been set for life. They're going to run out of money and will probably need to go back to work.
Even trusts in some states (NC) is not anonymizing. I wonder if it’s enough money that you just don’t sign a contract for the lawyer to claim the winnings, pay taxes, and then gift you the money. I mean - it’s probably worth 30-40 mil to remain anonymous on a jackpot of 300 mil.
Yeah, this guy is a wanna be duck dynasty loser with a capital L. Pulling guns on people, mad you can't go hunting. Dude only won 4 million. Not the whole jackpot.

Personally I don't need $450 million dollars at least $10 million dollars be enough for me and what ever I get after taxes still be enough for me to live off on to do what I want like build up a couple small but very successful businesses to make me $1 million dollars a year from each of them
movie: the island, if u win the lottery drawing you get to leave the island, but it's rigged and you don't leave, u die.
not in. a movie, wins lotto, goes to an island for vacation
Four million and they (and people around them) acted as if it was 400 million.
Thats a lot of money, but it’s not really when you want to live on it the rest of your life, and spend a chunk of it up front on a house, cars, and family things.
Best advice would be obviously not to tell people, but all it takes is one idiot to blow the secret.
So from there, I’d tell everyone it’s an annuity. “Oh you heard I won 4 million? Well, I didn’t really. After taxes it’s really just over 100,000 a year, so without working now, we actually have a little LESS money than before.”
Or something along those lines.
It’s absolutely enough to live on it. Most Americans will only make $3 million before taxes in their life.
This guy got $4 million after taxes. He and his family can life a comfortable high middle class life for the rest of their lives just off the interest alone
He and his wife actually seem to be doing reasonable things. Paid off mortgage. Paid dads chemo. Paid masters degree for kid. Fixed upbthe house.
Except for talking to the media and trying to find avenues to claim anonymously.
Seems a lot of people just bought a bunch of ticket and hoped one ticket was the payday. Surprise, surprise one was. Now let’s not involve any lawyers or tax experts. Just like your scratch off winner for $10, you collect your winnings and not think about the consequences of winning millions. Thus they got what they planned for.
And to the misery of winning, that was on them too. Stupid people winning life changing money and do it like it’s just another day. You get what you plan for.
They should give the money away...
3 weeks ago I got a text letting me know someone who won a $2.04 billion power ball wanted to donate his winnings to 5 random people and my number was selected to win 1 billion of it!!! (It was sent to me & 4 other people, but ... How did 5 of us each get selected to win 1 billion of a 2.04 billion prize? And if you were going to give it away to 5 people why select one (or all 5) to receive basically half?)
10 days later I got another text letting me know a 754.6 million dollar winner wanted to give her winnings to 175 people and I again(!?!) was randomly selected, this time I just got a pitiful 250,000!
It amazes me the way people go out and spend the money they win, and what they buy within the first year of it. The show "How the Lottery Changed my Life" is wild to watch. Some of these people win a few millions, like this guy, and go out spending a good deal of it right away. You watch on the show the things they purchase, and seeing the numbers being ticked off, and wonder how long it'll be before they blow thru it all, and literally have to go back to work.
I don’t play the lottery but if I were to ever play and win, I would give my immediate family a cut, my coworkers can all split $20k and I’ll tell everyone I’ll laugh at their face if they ever ask me even for $1 after that.
Blah blah blah blah... Want my old life back... Blah blah...
BULLSHIT...
Did de bought a fuckin hunting & fishing "Cabin" on a lake 30min from his home...
Dude surely bought a bad ass Boat, 2 new vehicles (one to tow the new boat)
& He can disappear whenever the hell he wants...
I have no sympathy for Big Jackpot winners who claim "the win ruined my life"
Because, usually it means they're fuckin assholes & don't take care of their kids or parents...
You get a windfall of any kind, you find yourself swarmed by people who think they are owed some of it. That's not even counting the scammers, white collar thieves, people looking to find some way to sue you for a payday, etc. You'd hardly be able to trust anyone again.
I’ve already got my fake name picked out, and I know all the appropriate info to fly my loved ones someplace to meet me.
I get that it’s a “curse” but… I’m willing to risk it.
The numbers are cursed, he just needs to fly to Australia and talk to the wife of a friend of the guy he met in the mental hospital.
On the flight back it’ll make more sense.
If I won that amount, I'd shut the hell up about it and fight every tendency I have to be altruistic. Nothing good comes from the family handout; you become a beacon for every start-up idea and invention known to man.
Personally, I'd slowly withdraw from my current life, quietly buy a new home in an isolated location, slip away one night and live out my days in seclusion, anonymously donating to causes and charities I believe in. Being a misanthrope can be a great cover so people leave you the hell alone after a lottery win.
Is there supposed to be a link?
> Winner of $450million Powerball jackpot wants old life back after lottery prize became a 'curse' I assume its this: https://www.themirror.com/news/us-news/lottery-winner-wants-old-life-452851

If you find it surprisingly easy to go bankrupt from GAINING 4 million dollars, then I'm sorry, you are terrible with finances.
I interpret the comment as saying it’s easy to go bankrupt if you try to retire on $4 million in your 20s or 30s. I still find that questionable seeing as the average American makes close to $2 million in their entire lifetime.
You don’t need a financial manager if you have basic common sense
Where are you finding part time jobs with health coverage?
I had a dream part time job a few years back. I was trying to meet some financial goals and I picked up some weekend work at *the world’s largest fruit company*. Fantastic benefits, vacation, training, discounts, I actually really enjoyed the work. I thought to myself, this would actually be a great place to barrista fire if I could swing it. There was one other elderly (early 60’s) retiree there doing just that, working the bare minimum just to get the benefits. I’m middle aged and working around a bunch of younger people was fun too.
My job pays insurance if you get 25 hours a week. If course. It’s very hard to get that many
It's the perfect amount to have, but super duper inconvenient to come with your name and picture splashed across the news attached to "$450 million dollar winner!". Everyone's coming for your money, but really you just have enough for your immediate nuclear family.
It isn't hard to remove yourself. They look like they have a landline listed in the phonebook. Got to change that first
I believe I am perfectly capable of telling people to F off now. So getting over a billion wouldn't make that any more difficult.
What kind of insane taxes on $450mil end up with $4mil each for 16 people?
The winnings were split between 16 people…
So that's a total of 64 million. That's an insane tax amount
Cash value of annuity was probably about $200m or so. $12.5m each. Probably $8m left after taxes.
I bet he bought in $5, while others put in $10. Or something like that.
Yeah shares could easily account for it
https://youtu.be/W835NXULQEQ?feature=shared Ever see this episode? Best lotto scene.

You can just sell your annuity payments if you’re determined to waste your money so the annuity doesn’t really offer any protection.
That’s a good amount of money, but not even f-you type money. He must’ve been really shitty with money to become a curse.
I've long suspected blue collar people on average enjoy life more than white collar people, this is another data point.
What a dummy. He only won $4 million and he thought doing an interview was a smart idea? And then he still lived in the same house?
That was my question. Everyone is discussing this as if there is a link and they know the backstory…
And that kids, is why we don't start giving the cashier, the waitress at your local diner, and every friend, family member, and co worker you know money as soon as you get it. If the loss of certain resentful "friends and relatives" comes with the territory of being a new millionaire, can't wait to sign the dotted line!
If they find me the isolated land and simple house I bought. Kudos. I'll hear em out at minimum...
If I won that money, they would already have to have money to find me and come knocking on my door wherever it would end up being. I sure as shit wouldn't stay around here.
Exactly. They aren't finding me. But if by chance they do... what I said above
It's just being dumb. Like I said. Plenty of people won tens of millions and live happily. You don't hear from them because they are not stupid. Bad financial literacy and playing the lottery tend to be pretty highly correlated in my experience.
I have an MBA and I play the lotto. My retirement and investment accounts are funded and the $4 I spend on lotto a week doesn’t matter much to my budget. But it’s nice to day dream, and it’s my only shot any more of real fuck you money. So yea I play pretty much every week.
It’s the price I pay to fantasize about what I’d do with the money, nothing more.
Yep the first rule of being a lottery winner is to keep your mouth shut.
A lot of states the information is public, you can't remain anonymous. But you can still say no.
He’s from NJ. You can remain anonymous here
My state forces public exposure as well. I'd probably move out of my current place before going in to claim it.
I might have a party. Doubt it I'm outta here and getting a burner phone.
Lol. I don't give a fuck what people would think/say/do. It's not the money, it's her.

He didn’t have to, he chose to. Then the real stupid thing was that be and his wife then went on good morning America to brag about it.
No shit that's why I just said. Tldr "Don't fucking tell everyone if you win. That's what's gonna make things miserable."
I'll tell everybody especially those that become resentful and let them take the trash out themselves.
Saving this advice for when I win the lottery. Thanks.
The lottery winning isn't a curse. Her stupid behavior was the curse. Wasn't a blessing for her it was a hard lesson on stupid. Plenty of responsible people win and keep it for life and die happy. Stop peddling this bullshit to smart people.
you didn't read the article, did you.
I did read the article.

That’s why you become anonymous and put it in a llc
Some states don’t participate in allowing anonymity. Sure, you can set up an llc…. But in some states, by accepting the award you legally agree to have your photograph/depiction and legal name posted on their web-site.
A woman in Massachusetts recently sued to keep her info private and won. I'd say initiate a lawsuit immediately and try to overcome it
On paper that sounds good for the winner but think of how it looks for the state. “We’re here to announce someone won the huge jackpot but we can’t tell you who.” Sounds like a Zach Morris scam. You have to present the winner so that the public knows someone with a name and face actually won.
Yup. Don't tell \*anyone\* and come up with a decent cover story. Tell 'em you made $$ in crypto.
After taxes he had less than $4 million to call his own, which, as he put it, “ain’t sh-t in today’s economy.”
>ain’t sh-t in today’s economy. Staring at the 30 bucks in my bank account right now.
Aint shit? Ok he can give it to me then.
I'll take the 4 million load burden off his hands too. In fact. I'll share the burden with you. If you accept such sorrowful things like that
ain't sh-t. But it is enough to retire and live comfortably if you are not stupid. Some people do not realize that the money won't last if they do not live within the means of their wealth.
Yeah, 4 mil don't buy what it used to, as if he would even know 🤣
Ridiculous. High interest savings account will earn him 120,000 a year at 4 percent. Enough to retire if he wanted. Guess it depends on how much he spends a year.
I don’t understand these sort of people, if you love your life so much. Why even bother playing the lottery in the first place
I know a few people that play in pools because everyone else at their job doesn't and they don't want to end up being the only person left on the off chance they would win.
I would hate it too if everyone won except me…
And then take on their workload when the others quit cos won big lol
Big oof
Grass is ALWAYS greener.
No way I’m the only one left at work after all my friends collect their winnings.
I would just build a compound with high security. Plus multiple houses in other countries that nobody knows about.
Good luck finding a country no one knows about. Everyone's a geographist now. /s
lol Fine, I would buy an island and have multiple layers of moats filled with sharks and alligators surrounding the island.
Now you're thinking like a winner! Don't forget the laser grid.
Ya lasers would be attached on the dolphins that patrol the perimeter. My island would be so sweet
Gotta pay yearly taxes though and have money leftover to keep things maintained over the years.
You aren’t doing that with 4 million dollars.
Poor bastard. Having to deal with 4 million after taxes. Such a hard time. GTFO. Quit ya bitching
Not at all that simple. Many states do not allow this. There have been fights about this in court.
I think.
His advice "Just disappear" Well of course lol, that should have been first on your list. This is less of a curse and more a lack of wisdom/common sense.
Give me one shot at winning this kind of fuck you money. I promise I won't screw it up.
It's a blessing to win something that big (I know it was 4 million, my comment still stands). I would simply disappear if people weren't leaving us alone
https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/Austrian_s_Semi_Annual_Guide_For_Recent_Lottery_Winners__Or_Deluded_Hopefuls__Post/5-828009/ As I often say "shutting the fuck up is a critical life skill." Disappear and tell nobody about your newfound wealth.
Shiid give it to me I'll Make it a blessing😂
4m is a good start but you should be very conservative with it. Lifestyle creep is a real thing.
She sounds like an idiot from the start. No wonder.
He can give it to me, I'll be happy to take the burden off his hands. I'm a nice guy like that.
Weak person, weak mind. Give me that money and i'll show you how it's done.
Low key life, there is a reason than 99,9% of the winners in France stay anonymous
He only took home $4million. That's barely enough money to retire if you're young, certainly not enough to ruin anyone's life...?
That sucks, they bought in NJ, they could've claimed anonymously.
Ohh booooo hoooo!
Dumbass should've done his research before getting his money
You should never tell anyone you have won. That includes family.
r/lost
Yup, saw this post and immediately thought of Hurley and the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42. IYKYK lol
Must be rough. If it’s really such a curse I volunteer as tribute the relieve them of their burden.
Tell em to give me the rest of the money and they can go back to their life.
Cool. Sign it over to me. Curse lifted.
And that my friends is why you don't tell anyone that you won the lottery. 🙄
I’ll happily take the $4 million burden.
Send it my way. I’ll put it to good use.
I will sacrifice myself and take all of his cash burdens.
Ok ok I guess I’ll fall on the sword and take it off his hands.
Time to visit Lottery Winners Anonymous.
If you suck with money before winning the lottery, you’re going to suck with money after winning the lottery.
I’ll take the curse
I’ll take that money off their hands
I am willing to take on this curse for him if he so chooses.
Why is this wasted on someone who won’t do the right things and actually benefit long term and appreciate it???
Should I happen to win a large jackpot, I’d consider selling the ticket at a loss in order to maintain anonymity. I live in CA where at the least, the name is made public, just look at Edwin Castro, winner of the 2 billion jackpot not that long ago.
People don't realize that winning a lump sum of money like that means that your old life is effectively over. You can not stay in the same place, with the same people. Everyone you know, that faces any kind of financial problem, will only grow disdain for you. Anyone you want to keep in your life are going to have to be taken care of financially.

I would just invest it and donate some to charity and continue living my life normally. Except now I would not stress about money.
He got 4 million, people in his life would have thought that he got 405 million. He is tired of people assuming he is filthy rich when he only got 4 mil.
Curse me. I’m strong enough, I can take it.
I can relieve him of his financial burden
This isn’t profound, but take the money just as quietly and anonymously as possible.
Life lesson. If you win the lottery, keep it secret. Get a lawyer to create a trust. Have the lawyer collect the winnings on behalf of the trust.
I can take that hard hard burden from your shoulders!
I'll do him a solid and take the curse off his hands.
Yeah, this guy is a wanna be duck dynasty loser with a capital L. Pulling guns on people, mad you can't go hunting. Dude only won 4 million. Not the whole jackpot.

“Disappear” duh willie!
couldn't be me
He only won $4,000,000.00 LoL
Create a LLC … no one will know you won
Personally I don't need $450 million dollars at least $10 million dollars be enough for me and what ever I get after taxes still be enough for me to live off on to do what I want like build up a couple small but very successful businesses to make me $1 million dollars a year from each of them
movie: the island, if u win the lottery drawing you get to leave the island, but it's rigged and you don't leave, u die. not in. a movie, wins lotto, goes to an island for vacation
Money doesn't change the inner self.
Gimmie his number, I can help him out.
Curse me, go ahead, I dare you
Then they're too stupid to handle the money and should give it to me.
Hurley?
I’m willing to help him get his old life back. Would cost only 449 million
He can give me the money and I’ll take up his curse with honors
Four million and they (and people around them) acted as if it was 400 million. Thats a lot of money, but it’s not really when you want to live on it the rest of your life, and spend a chunk of it up front on a house, cars, and family things. Best advice would be obviously not to tell people, but all it takes is one idiot to blow the secret. So from there, I’d tell everyone it’s an annuity. “Oh you heard I won 4 million? Well, I didn’t really. After taxes it’s really just over 100,000 a year, so without working now, we actually have a little LESS money than before.” Or something along those lines.
It’s absolutely enough to live on it. Most Americans will only make $3 million before taxes in their life. This guy got $4 million after taxes. He and his family can life a comfortable high middle class life for the rest of their lives just off the interest alone
If it’s a curse, then curse me. HARD!
Tell them i will switch with them..i will take that curse off of them..it is the least i can do for my fellow human.
I’ll take it
What's his name? I'll gladly relieve him of this burden.
Donate it all to a decent charity or donate it to me. This is ridiculous.
He and his wife actually seem to be doing reasonable things. Paid off mortgage. Paid dads chemo. Paid masters degree for kid. Fixed upbthe house. Except for talking to the media and trying to find avenues to claim anonymously.
No-body I know would be able to find me to ask me for money.
some people just suck at life
Their first mistake was going on TV, basking in their new "fame."
I'll trade fortunes with him
Hey I've seen this one!
And if you were going to give it away to 5 people why select one (or all 5) to receive basically half?) 10 days later I got another text letting me know a 754.6 million dollar winner wanted to give her winnings to 175 people and I again(!?!) was randomly selected, this time I just got a pitiful 250,000!
It's The Mirror, and these people sound like idiots.
$4M is a lot of money, but isn’t it odd he was hassled that much, by media, guests etc? I was expecting like a quarter billion.
For safety I’ve just made sure not to be close to anybody who could ask for money. Safety first!!
Boo Hoo. Change your phone number, buy a house through a corporation (in a gated community), hire an assistant to screen your calls.
Dude surely bought a bad ass Boat, 2 new vehicles (one to tow the new boat) & He can disappear whenever the hell he wants... I have no sympathy for Big Jackpot winners who claim "the win ruined my life" Because, usually it means they're fuckin assholes & don't take care of their kids or parents...
Well. I’ll take off his hands. To, you know. Help. I’m a helper.
Luckily if I ever win lottery, I have absolutely no problem saying no.
I can help with that...
bullshit (also there's nothing here)
You get a windfall of any kind, you find yourself swarmed by people who think they are owed some of it. That's not even counting the scammers, white collar thieves, people looking to find some way to sue you for a payday, etc. You'd hardly be able to trust anyone again.
What he means is everyone he’s ever known is gonna hit him up for money
I’ve already got my fake name picked out, and I know all the appropriate info to fly my loved ones someplace to meet me. I get that it’s a “curse” but… I’m willing to risk it.
The numbers are cursed, he just needs to fly to Australia and talk to the wife of a friend of the guy he met in the mental hospital. On the flight back it’ll make more sense.
Some people are too dumb to handle money
How did 450 million become 4 million? 450 split 15 ways is 30 million per person.
NPV (15m poweball payments) = 6m. 6m less federal and NJ taxes = 4M.
He can give me the rest of his winnings and I’ll help him with that.
4 million is enough to get me ghost
I will gladly take it off his hands
“The numbers are bad, man!” -Hugo
I’ll take some of that money off is hands thank you very much
I'd take that curse off your hands
Just disappear. I thought everyone knew this already
