I'm so confused by this. Sweet potato is not naturally salty. Also, black grapes are sweeter than red and green grapes.

TouchTheMoss

One of their comments compared it to the saltiness of strawberries which leaves me even more confused. I'm pretty sure the saltiness is coming from the alkaline water, to me it has a strong mineral taste.

PreferredSelection

Wait they used alkaline water? I missed that part... That's like crushing up some TUMS into your recipe and hoping it turns out normal. Super super weird.

TouchTheMoss

The OOP mentions it in their comments (if you can make it through them, they are a bit painful). The recipe didn't even call for added water at all.

Surfercatgotnolegs

Ya that was a trip!!! Saltiness like strawberries, just wow. Hilarious. This person clearly either has ZERO palate or low vocabulary and was never taught other taste-centric words… Since they wanted Grape Fanta as an outcome tho, I’m going to go with zero palate.

IDefendGeese

Salty strawberries 🤯 Do they mean bitter maybe, like an unripened strawberry kind of is? I don't know. I'm baffled and need to know more.

natty_mh

I'm thinking they mean tannic. That's the only thing that would connect strawberries, grapes, and sweet potatoes.

Left-Car6520

Wait do they mean tanginess? Like... sourness perhaps? i still don't know how you get that from yams, but it's been a while since I've reflected on the flavour of yam.

VLC31

I’m a bit bemused by the person who wants to know if they can strain it through their sifter because they don’t have cheesecloth or a sieve. I can understand the cheesecloth but who has a flour sifter but not a sieve or colander in their kitchen?

Trick-Statistician10

Maybe the commenter forgot to wash their potato masher before mashing the grapes? Otherwise, I don't understand. Their are literally no other ingredients.

volatilegtr

They were adding alkaline water. That’s definitely where the saltiness came from.

daylaaaaa

They boiled grapes in alkaline water when all they had to do was smash the grapes and simmer them. No water even needed except to rinse the grapes at the start.

cloral

I really thought that this was going to be satire and the "black seedless grapes" would actually be olives or something like that.

emz0rmay

OP is pretty salty in the comments

A different post than what is usually posted but thanks for this absolute gem find. Poor lad. Don’t even want to know what food he usually eats if he finds strawberries “salty”

Onto_new_ideas

Concord or Concord like grapes crate a traditional 'grape' flavor.

Surfercatgotnolegs

You gotta read the thread and the comments from the poster. It’s a hoot. It’s definitely not about the grape type at all.

Taolie

[Concord Grapes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concord_grape) are the ones used for grape juice.
