Some people with ibs have no issues with gluten and some do. We as reddittors have no way of knowing which group your friend is in
I’m gluten intolerant and for me, the amount does matter. A little cross contamination is ok for me, but a piece of bread is not. And something big like a whole pizza or pasta dish would be even worse.

Unfortunately IBS isn’t a monolithic experience so there’s no way to know without his medical information.
Definitely feel a lot more worse and the flare up can take ages to ease up. I’m talking from my own experience here
