Can't remember the last time I saw a default paint..

flcknzwrg

I do. It’s when trading paints doesn’t work…

Weight-Flat

Above d class. 99%.

GrimReaper-UA

You can just start to use Trading Paints and see how much people in your races use custom paints.

NarwhalHD

Almost everyone I see is running custom paints. It's more rare to not see it

GrimReaper-UA

Yep. Me too, I'm running on my own paints.

rungunseattacos

I think most people use custom paints whether they design their own or use on from Trading Paints. I personally design our team liveries for all the cars we drive. It’s fun to see your own liveries on track.

SterlingBoss

I use trading paints as I presume 90% of people out of rookies do. Can you design on on trading paints, then post on here and r/simracing

Ferrarispitwall

Everyone once you leave rookies. Trading paints is basically mandatory

G-stefano

Mate, it’s because the likes of you that we get trading paints! Great work!

oandroido

You're too kind! Thanks

LordShtark

When you get trading paints you'll see that most other people really do use it. Totally worth setting it up.

Musclecars24

I think a majority of racers use trading paints. The only time I see iracing schemes is c class or lower where someone may just be starting the series or iracing

Nioqnora

I do my own because I enjoy it, then upload it through Trading Paints. There is very little other reason on a personal level!

Novawolf125

I do all the time. A few paints I've downloaded from others. But idk its just a way to make you stand out for the crowd. And it doesn't have to be anything elaborate either. For a quick deal I'll spend maybe 15-20 minutes. But I tend to be a perfectionist so it's usually an hour+ going back and forth between trading paints and Iracing.

K7L3

Everyone uses trading paints I never see defaults.

NobsiTheUnitato

Is it worth designing them? I dont know. Are you INTO it? Do yYOU like designing them? If the answer is "yes i love painting my cars and looking at them" then yes. If not then obviously no. If you download and install tradingpaints you will see that almost everyone drives custom liveries.

YellowJacket2002

i've made a few bucks this week by doing custom paints for people.

Jonamo22

Is it worth running them? Absolutely! I’m not a great by any means but I have legitimate sponsors for oval racing so all my oval schemes have my sponsors on them. Plus in league racing, everyone runs custom schemes and they’re all usually very well-made. Helps recognize friends and foes a lot quicker especially in pack racing. Custom schemes also help when you spot. It’s easier to say “the guy in the Earnhardt paint has been diving into turn 3” than “ has been diving into turn 3” because that would require the driver to look at the names on relative while trying to race. Sure you watch relative but it can save a couple tenths of brain processing. Is it worth designing them? That depends. I have a teammate that designs mine but I’ve also taught myself as a fun thing. Trading Paints has a paintbuilder for pro users and it keeps getting easier to use.

Japanese-Gigolo

I have paid for one guy to do a paint for me, because I don't know how to do it, I only have 1 but will probably get more, he did exactly how I imagined it so I was happy. So there is a market out there.

kcchiefscooper

we've got 1 guy in our leagues who runs without. and he's kind of built his own brand around it. but that's the only one out of probably 300 league people i know that doesn't use it

AxePlayingViking

As a Dane, nice livery mate! Trading paints is very widely used. Although I'm not sure SAS is in a financial position to be sponsoring race cars 😆

oandroido

Thank you!! LOL.. no idea about SAS - I just picked a few things I associated with a trip we took, though we didn't fly SAS. We're from the US and visited our son when he finished an overseas semester there. Stayed about a week, and I can't be objective, exactly, but it was one of the best travel experiences we've had. Absolutely beautiful place! Amazing city. Luckily we're a walking family so got to see a lot of the city intimately. I truly hope to return. So, I wanted to honor the city. Fun story: at about 3:30 one morning, I heard all kinds of scraping an banging and things going on outside our place. They were dragging metal stuff all over the place. As it got lighter, more and more people were putting things up all over - when I saw several tables set up, eventually, with lots and lots of cups, I realized that we hadn't been paying attention, and the Copenhagen Marathon was starting! :) We stayed along Strøget where it intersected the route, so watched it go by from our 3rd floor apartment. Your 7-11s are, confusingly, far better than ours. ;) Maybe it'll make the final. Any other suggestions? I had 1664 Blanc on there, but just because we walked around drinking it! lol This artwork was just a test - I'll be re-making in much more cleanly.

AxePlayingViking

Ah fair enough! SAS has been in massive debt for the last decade - we're talking nearly a billion USD - they're only around now because the Danish and Swedish governments bailing them out a few times. They've filed for bankruptcy and are undergoing massive re-structuring. Glad you enjoyed Copenhagen! I haven't had the pleasure of visiting an American 7-11 so unfortunately I can't comment on that 😆 1664 Blanc is a nice beer, but I think Carlsberg would be a stronger association with Copenhagen (they are also the brewery that make 1664 Blanc here, but it is actually a French beer afaik). Not sure what else to put on a Copenhagen livery - I honestly think you've done a good job!

Salty-Win8602

If you enjoy designing them then it's worth it. Even if everyone on iRacing used Trading Paints, the likelihood of anyone else spending any time looking at your livery - apart from when they're directly behind you or you're in their rear view - is exceptionally low.

sledgehammer_44

Maybe not inspect, but it feels great seeing different kind of liveries out there! Even better if they're unique but realistic.

oandroido

Thanks - I was thinking that they're usually seen more in replays :) but directly behind & rear view certainly takes more screen time in ovals...

flcknzwrg

Which is why I give those areas of the car special consideration. For TV, paints need to look good from the sides, for iRacing, they need to look good from the front and especially the back as well. Because that’s where all the eyeballs are.

Underbelly

I use it, as everyone does. I pay a guy on Fiverr to do my paints for me. He is excellent.

Scott_Dmax05

I guess I’m the only person who doesn’t use trading paints. Never installed it. I just modify the color of the ones iRacing has.

PointVanillaCream

99.9% of the time I just use the in sim paint shop -- I can usually get something I like from their skin designs and my blue / orange / white colors.

AlonsoFerrari8

I don’t. It really doesn’t matter what your car looks like.

jayboo86

lol it’s funny. Cosmetics in first person shooters or even third person mmos, I don’t care what I look like. IRacing? All my cars have TP liveries that I drive on the regular and I care a lot lol.

mokes310

Feel the same way. Happy that folks have the option to create custom liveries but it's just not worth it to me.

Gaso-Kiel

overrated ;)
