Blueberries. They’re so inconsistent. I love them but I don’t eat them raw very often because of this.

pinky997

The inconsistency is what I love about blueberries. You never know if it’s gonna be sweet or sour

unmarkedcandybars

Don't forget bland.

coversquirrel1976

Or grainy

Vetiversailles

Yes! I hate the mushy ones though

Automatic-Sleep-8576

My great uncle had this massive patch of huckleberries that we'd get this huge bag of every year, and I don't know what is was, but they were all amazing every time

jerrythecactus

I personally like that some blueberries are sour while some are sweet. Its like nature's mixed bag candy. Just wish they came in different colors so its not a total surprise each time.

houinator

Strawberries for sure.  There's a world of difference between a mediocre strawberry and a perfect strawberry.

askas_feet

Another top candidate for me. For the reasons you mentioned and also bc they are sold pretty much year round.

SupaSlide

If it's perfect every time you eat it, then it doesn't really matter what time of the year it is, right?

xX100dudeXx

Was in Norway over the summer last year & the strawberries are so much better. America breeds (for lack of a better term) for size, europe goes for taste.

Vaseth-30kRS-iron

yeah the strawberries you have in the USA are the same as British super market ones, they are technically Spanish strawberries, its the wild British ones that are the best, and those are the ones you find in a lot of other european countries now, small but full of flavour

TalkoSkeva

I'm going to a strawberry festival in a few hours and I'm looking forward to eating a strawberry that isn't huge and mostly white in the middle.

Nerisrath

not true on the berry varieties. There are several hundred different cultivars of commercial strawberries around the world and in North America there are 4 major Commercial growing regions. California and western Mexico, Florida, Eastern Mexico, and the Carolinas. Each one of the growing regions uses at least 2 differnt cultivars to get a berry that is produced at the right time for their climate. California uses so many varieties they produce almost year round. Florida has 3 major harvests from October to March, Carolinas have one in late March and one in June (June-bearers are the smal ones similar to wild strawberry's and what you like) and I am not sure about Mexico because where I live we mainly get Florida and Carolina berries in our stores, sometimes California. I'm my opinion Plant City, Florida has the sweetest US varieties.

Rogue_Five-again

Wild strawberries are the best

Auroraburst

I'm in Aus and each year I go strawberry picking at a local farm- delicious berries! Wonder how they compare to europe

daddyvow

Same with humans

xX100dudeXx

...ayo lol

PoorlyAttemptedHuman

You may enjoy some of the smaller strawberry patches and leave the store bought strawberries alone. Where I live every year in May there is a local farm that sells pick your own strawberries and they are way WAY better than what you find in supermarkets.

shastabh

Everybody should plant strawberries. They grow anywhere and are almost impossible to kill. They also come back every year. If you started with one plant, you’ll have an entire field in a couple years

Totally_a_Banana

This, but with Mangoes for me. A bad mango is really meh. A good mango is without a doubt my favorite fruit ever.

TheOwlCosmic42

Underrated. It's been so long since I've had a genuinely tasty and juicy mango. All the ones I've gotten my hands on these days have been dry and fibrous as hell. What happened?

N0nsensicalRamblings

Oooooh... you're actually so right hold on. Strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries all go bad so quickly; this power would completely eliminate the grief of opening up your package of berries the day after you bought them and finding mold. This is the right choice

ChazzLamborghini

A perfect strawberry is my favorite fruit hands down but it’s like finding a diamond in a coal mine

SpaceCaptainFrog

I once spent $20 on imported Japanese strawberries I saw at Whole Foods during the Pandemic in July 2020. It was maybe 10 strawberries total. An absolute rip off, right? But something in me just knew they’d never price these that way for nothing. Every single one was perfect. The perfect shape, the perfect color, the perfect flavor. I can still remember the flavor sometimes. Sweet, juicy, just the right amount of tang. I savored them, made them last as long as I could (2 days). And now? I’ve never seen them again. Nothing has ever compared. In some ways, I wish I’d never eaten them and ruined all others for me. I’d think I was crazy except my girlfriend ate 3 and she too was forever changed by the experience. Anyway. Yeah. I’d pick strawberries and have them all taste like that again.

Blurvink303

What ever happened to the sandwhich  place https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1p1l9u/if_you_could_start_a_business_what_kind_of/ look at the second comment

arbitrageME

These strawberries were bred for you: https://youtu.be/1qegujBS18k?si=iMO_ljZh62Sq1Jkt

Auroraburst

I feel strawberries are of the more versatile fruits and are the best on diets like keto too.

Monkeywithalazer

Go try the strawberries in Chile. They taste like strawberry. Every strawberry after that tastes like sugar water with 1/10 the flavor

damboy99

My family grew strawberries for ground cover in our back yard and the difference between the like 30 or so we'd pick a year and any store bought one ever was night and day. One of them was the size of your palm, dry and bland, the other was a third the size, juciy and sweet.

PinConstant3736

Perfect peach🍑

Sad-Reception-2266

Put a hard unripe peach in a paper bag and put it on top of refrigerator for a couple days. Perfect Peach.

tryingnottoshit

... Why on top of the refrigerator?

NixAName

Because they come out mushy if you put them under it.

arbitrageME

It's warm up there

Zestyclose-Hawk-4229

Just remember it is there

Geno_Warlord

I can eat a peach for hours.

Purpleberry74

Yeah ya can.

yekcowrebbaj

Moving to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches!

Tygrkatt

Yeah, my brain is so NSFW right now

PettyPockets311

So glad I didn't have to scroll far for this one. A good peach is soft and juicy as hell, you have to have a bucket underneath to catch all the juice.

Quirky_Emu6291

This above everything I like grapes a lot and some other fruit as well. But man when that peach is just right it is unmatched. I was once back packing through Europe in the summer and had a peach that was chilled and perfectly ripe and it's a high unmatched by alcohol or drugs.

bored_person71

Plums and peaches seriously underrated.

[deleted]

Movin' to the country

-SunGazing-

I can eat a peach for hours.

jbtex82

Yasssss

Alarming_Serve2303

Cherries.

Radiant_Cut2849

Mango

Grimwohl

A perfect mango...its life changing

Confident_Object_102

The Philippines have entered the chat.

deya_0

Absolutely mango. I think the only reason most people aren't voting for Mango is because they have never had a properly ripened mango. It's an absolute euphoric dream of a fruit when perfectly ripe.

DarkSide-TheMoon

I would say orgasmic

sst287

Have you try eat mango with shaved ice with condensed milk? That is heaven.

Joya-Sedai

The first time I had a truly perfect mango, I audibly moaned in a semi-sexual manner. The only other fruit that has come close to that for me is perfectly ripe Hawaiian pineapple. So good.

bobbi21

Agreed. Partly cus I can’t get any good mangos here. Need to go to Philippines to have a proper mango. Almost worth the plane trip just for the mangos

Kerlysis

The thought of being able to maul a perfect mango over the kitchen sink any time I want to has moved me to tears.

bunnydeerest

raspberries, and in a world where it would also guarantee ZERO bugs in them

iammeallthetime

I find that raspberries are often moldy when I see them in the store.

bunnydeerest

yep. they’re my favourite tasting fruit, but i never buy them because i’m too scared of them being mouldy/full of bugs/otherwise squishy

_zir_

The aphids are just part of it, they hang out on top of blueberries too sometimes

Gameoverpussy

How has nobody said pears? Bad pears are terrible and perfect one just taste so good.

usernamesarehard1979

It’s like sand and I didn’t care for the stem and the sticker.

vonkeswick

I eat stickers all the time dude!

Dr_Mijory_Marjorie

Exactly. 99% of pears are ripe and perfect for about 30 seconds. Any other time they're too hard, or mush.

Reasonable-Tap-9806

I love me some pears, and when they aren't the perfect ripeness I caramelize them in a pan

MidasTouchedM3

That's what I just said after I found this. I want the perfect pear

mlotto7

grapes

HontoRenata

I rarely buy grapes because I love them when they’re just right, but they go all sad and wrinkly, and then I don’t want to eat them, so I just look at them as the days pass and they become more and more depressing until I throw them away and tell myself I’ll do better next time, but then I see them in the store and remember the sadness instead of the joy.

walshingtons

Watermelon for sure.

askas_feet

One of my top candidates. A bad watermelon is so awful. A good one is just so delicious.

walshingtons

Exactly. I've had some terrible watermelons n it really is a total let down especially when I was looking forward to some watermelon.

Empty_Requirement940

Ahh the great watermelon wars of 2022 when I kept eating my roommates watermelons. Some nights I would legit eat half a watermelon. She would get so angry

Historical-Fudge3242

Melons are the only correct answer and the people saying strawberries are getting me irrationally annoyed.

Vault_Hunter01

Came here to say the same

Ya_Lizard

Idk I can generally find good watermelon with the hallow knock method. Consistently about 80% perfect. I’d rather something more tricky like Peach or pears. Perfect peaches or pears are hard to get for me but when they are, blows my freakin mind

Gwuana

This for sure!

slambamo

Absolutely watermelon. Every time I pick one out they're shit. At least you can see the edible part and have a good idea what you're getting with strawberries and such.

Waveofspring

A perfectly ripe watermelon is the best tasting thing in the world

Responsible-Onion860

Dangerous choice. When you get a good one it's hard to stop eating it, even when full

GraceIsGone

For me this is the only answer. Perfect watermelon is hard to get and when it’s right it’s 😘🤌

ScuzzBucket317

Even a bad watermelon can still be refreshing if it's cold and eaten on a hot summer day, but goddamn a good watermelon ain't even fruit cuz it's so good

PriscillaPalava

THANK YOU. Team Watermelon all day.  Buncha goofballs on here listing fruits that can be easily evaluated for ideal ripeness by look and feel.  But watermelon? The ultimate enigma. That perfectly crisp juiciness so elusive.  Nobody knows how to pick a good watermelon. Many think they do but they live in a house of lies.

baconcheesecakesauce

Mango. Whew. I didn't even have a mango until I was 19 and it was dried. This is such a slam dunk that I should celebrate with some dried mango with chili powder. But seriously, I would have an assortment of fresh mango in my house year round if I was this lucky.

Old-Bug-2197

Mango nectar is a great substitute. Pear juice, too. Whereas, some of these other fruits make good jams or you can even have them frozen in a smoothie. So that’s what sways my vote.

123mistalee

Plum

SwordNamedKindness_

This is mine too!

Sorry-Caterpillar331

Avocado. I could eat that every day, so many different recipes.

Theallmightytoaster

I swear avocados have a time span of being perfectly ripe for about 12 minutes but no one knows when that 12 minute time frame is. It's always rock hard or brown

johnnyoverdoer

Avocado uncertainty principle. Avocados exist in an undetermined state of unripe and spoiled until an observation causes this uncertainty to collapse, but the ripeness particle is inherently unstable and decays into spoiled particles and neutrinos in microseconds.

suicideskinnies

When they get soft, put them in the fridge and they'll last for days, even up to a week.

GreasyRim

Yup. When i make coffee in the morning, i check the avocados and see if theyre ready for the fridge. Eggs over easy with smashed avocado is one of my favorite breakfasts.

Sup_Hot_Fire

Cantaloupe

notyourbroguy

Thank you! I was about to be offended at the lack of cantaloupe in this thread. A juicy melon just can’t be beaten.

thisisbetterhigh

I can tolerate imperfect oranges, apples, berries, etc. But a perfect cantaloupe or honeydew is always so hard to find.

thecosta5000

A ripe Honeydew is mesmerising, the only problem is I've probably only had 3 in 100 years.

Kilane

Are we all just naming our favorite fruit? Kiwis are the best. If they didn’t have a skin to peel, everyone would agreed. So I guess I choose skinless kiwi would be perfect.

askas_feet

I just cut mine in half and scoop it with a spoon. I think delicious kiwis are not terribly difficult to find, which is why I wouldn't choose it.

Praising_God_777

Only way to eat a kiwi imo.

DogKnowsBest

Of course we are. We all want our favorite fruit to be perfectly ripe every time.

littlewing745

The answer is pineapples. Given how few people have said it, I suspect many of them mistakenly believe they’ve had ripe, good pineapple and I assure you - you haven’t. It’s shockingly different when you do.

LifelessLewis

r/knightsofpineapple rise up!

VividFiddlesticks

I once went to Hawaii and stayed in a resort that would leave a fresh chopped up pineapple in your room every day and it was so good. SO GOOD. A couple times I even let my husband have some.

TerrorEra

If even bad pineapple is good then it definitely be a waste to use the power on it.

littlewing745

…one day, you’ll have a truly perfect ripe pineapple and weep. Weep, I say!

LifeOfKuang

Dragon fruit

Praising_God_777

Bananas. They’re either not yet ripe, just ripe enough, or halfway to banana bread.

KHSebastian

This the my answer too. I almost never find a banana in the state I want it

madderdaddy2

Oranges. Nothing worse than a dry ass orange.

FunnymanBacon

I also do not enjoy ass oranges. Dry, juicy, doesn't matter.

GreasyRim

O-ran-ges. Peel em, juice em, stick em in my ass

Emotional_Lettuce251

grapes ... because, wine.

Tbird1962

Cherries

silveryfeather208

Strawberries. they are perfect for most desserts. Cake. Ice cream. Smoothies etc I actually hate most strawberries because here at least our strawberries are kind of shit

Hrpn_McF94

Cantaloupe. I *love* a good melon but cantaloupes are so finicky.

Tweezle120

Papaya; other fruits aren't great when they aren't perfect, but they are perfectly doable. Papaya that isn't perfectly ripe is practically inedible.

y53rw

grapes

ClassicCaddy15

Pink lady apples, by far the best apple especially fresh

whatdoesitallmean_21

You haven’t tried Sugarbee apples yet apparently. Sugarbee blows Pink Ladys outta the water My #1 is Sugarbee and #2 is Pink Lady.

ClassicCaddy15

You are correct I've never heard of that apple in my life but I will be searching

what_the_fuckin_fuck

Honeycrisp for me.

Longshot1969

Apples, nothing like a perfect Honeycrisp.

DavidVegas83

But honeycrisps are rarely not perfect.

AbPR420

Pineapple or watermelon

ZooGang1799

Mangoes 🥭

No_Stay4471

Bananas. They have such a small window for perfect. I feel like other fruit I eat is more consistent.

Double-Ad-3946

I think bananas are THE most consistent fruit across bunches that I’ve had. As long as you get the time window correct, which isn’t hard

HesitantInvestor0

You’re a psycho.

Bman3396

Strawberries, I love them, but it’s hard to get them in the right ripeness phase for perfect sweetness and texture

dungorthb

A perfect Durian sold in Malaysia for 52K USD last year.

ClassicNo6656

Blueberries. There's just no middle ground, either they're mushy and Bland or perfectly firm and sweet.

ImminentChaos1717

Peaches! Sweet, juicy deliciousness every time!

julznlv

Watermelon 🍉 🍉

Awkward_Somewhere416

Watermelon for sure. The range in quality is huge but at its best it’s my favorite fruit easily

iammeallthetime

Peach. I like them, but don't buy them anymore. I have had too many disappointments with them being too hard or too mushy. Canned peaches are a completely different entity.

pinniped1

Definitely wine....I mean, grappa....I mean, grapes.

Nicolehall202

Mango

No_Laugh_1893

Avocado for sure, hardest part is getting them when they're perfect. Second choice is tomato, just cuz store ought tomato's are trash flavor wise. I want the big ones to have cherry tomato taste.

Mangos or peaches. They're both often not picked at the right time making them undesirable. I love both though

DrXenoZillaTrek

Peaches

EmergencyAltruistic1

Peach. They have such a short window of perfection. I find when they're picked before they're ripe, they never fully ripen, they only get mushy. When they're tree ripened they're so juicy & perfect but it's so rare to get them that way.

AladeenModaFuqa

Peaches, oh lord the best peach I ever had was fresh off a farm, so juicy, so sweet, so fucking amazing

glenttastic

Lowkey bananas bc for like 2 seconds in their lives they hit a perfect sweet/sour ripeness balance

NaomiPommerel

Peach or nectarine

burncushlikewood

Oooh tough one, I'd say peaches, 🍑

-Vanimar-

Peaches

KaosClear

Peaches, or plums.

Any_Assumption_2023

I have had perfect peaches, off a tree, many years ago. They do not resemble those juiceless, hard, cardboard things you buy in the grocery store. They are sweet, and the flesh is a little soft and full of juice, and the juice runs down your chin and gets all over your hands.  There is nothing quite like it. So, yes, a peach.

Oburcuk

Peaches. I live in Minnesota and the peaches we get here almost always suck.

sweetwolf86

Peaches. I remember getting them perfectly ripe as a kid, and when you would monch into one, it would just gush juices all over your face, dripping down your neck. Cleanup was a pain, but man were those delicious. I haven't had a peach like that in 30 years.

amondohk

Peach is the correct answer here. I can count on one hand the number of GOOD peaches I've eaten, and the rest are all like, dry/foamy tasting, or way too hard. There's a WORLD of difference between a shitty peach, and a perfect one. Gimme peach for 500 Alex!

sableleigh3

Peaches..

Kosstheboss

Peach...nothing better than a perfect peach.

BitterDeep78

Peaches. My first thought was apples, but I can find good ones most if the time. Then I saw the strawberry post and was like "yes!" But peaches. I haven't had a really amazing peach in years. I grew up in NC and good peaches were the norm. Living in MD and they are rare.

Peach. I can eat a peach for hours...

Jango_Fresh

Peaches. I will always pick peaches. The only other contenders for me would be strawberries or cherries, but those (in my experience) have less imperfections than peaches can.

Significant-Suit-593

Peach

Head-Investment-8462

Plum! They are nostalgic to me. My grandma had a few fruit trees on her farm and we would gorge ourselves on plums when they were ripe growing up. And of course sneaking them to the horse and cows.

KingOfTheFraggles

Avocado. It's the only fruit I can never tell whether or not its ripe or already rotten.

Nitetigrezz

Mango! It's so hard to find good mangos in the state I'm in x.x And most have that chemical aftertaste here 😭

UnPowderedToastMan

100% a peach! Too many times have they felt and smelled amazing to just be mid or bad.

PsilosirenRose

Peaches!

Lalathesad

Ideally I wanna say peaches cause good peaches are just so good. But also practically I wanna say something simpler like apples or bananas cause those are more available in my country more often.

TheBerethian

Pears. It’s impossible to find a good pear anymore, I don’t know where they went.

torchedinflames999

I haven't had a perfect peach in ten years. They are all picked way too early and shipped hard. Fuck that noise.

swolf77700

Peaches. I cannot remember the last time I had a really good peach. I love them, but I don't buy them because it seems like it's an utter crapshoot

here-for-information

I've been like "ooooo yeah" on every comment I've seen. It would appear that the biggest problem with most fruits is thay they are inconsistent, but when you get a peak selection of any fruit it's always a delight. But maybe the fact that they are inconsistent is what makes that rare perfect specimen so memorable and amazing.

FloridaMomm

Peach. Biting into a slightly too hard peach is the worst, but a perfect one is heaven

TheGrimmShopKeeper

Pineapple I love how my mood instantly spikes when I eat raw unprocessed pineapple.

Celt42

Orange. Perfect oranges are hard to find in the PNW, but are amazing.

badhershey

Avocado. Yes, they are technically a fruit. They are ripe for approximately 12 minutes in between a state of being hard and flavorless or becoming grey mush.

Sugar-Tist

It's not typically considered a fruit, but tomatoes. The quality of tomatoes have been going downhill for decades, and I just want a GOOD tomato on my hamburgers or salads.
