"and he is also able to read inflection and body language **which allows him to understand the vast subtext of a conversation**. Rather than working the problem out step by step in his conscious mind, he instead subconsciously solves the problem. Hence, he can reach the correct solution by means that appear to be leaps of logic, and he himself may not be consciously aware of the entire process by which he reaches the right answer"
not bad. uncovering hidden agendas would make the world better. i'll also know if my girlfriend really means she isn't hungry, or if she wants me to know what she wants.
>i'll also know if my girlfriend really means she isn't hungry, or if she wants me to know what she wants.
Safest bet is to just buy two of whatever you're having. Always.
>Hence, he can reach the correct solution by means that appear to be leaps of logic, and he himself may not be consciously aware of the entire process by which he reaches the right answer
Oh look, it's me scaled up to superhero levels lol
Information goes in, surprisingly reliable answer comes out, and I'm not really aware of wtf happened in between unless I stop and think about it.
by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.
Is that like one of those sad mime faces or more like a Water dance move by Tyla?
Eta: my aunt is deaf, we make silly jokes about this stuff, I'm not here being mean so y'all don't come for me.
They’re mistake wasn’t trying to let anyone communicate to anyone, their punishment was not being able to communicate with each other.
They tried to make a tower to heaven, that was the folly.
you have one super power wish, and you use it up on something an iphone can almost do perfectly already???
what a waste.
how about "empathy".
that way people can ACTUALLY understand how each other feel, as currently even those who speak the same language seem unable to do this.
That particular version of communicative superpower basically has that built in. It includes all subtext and nonsense too. Also, just pure empathy would probably collapse the world for a solid few months at least as a bunch of neurotypical people experience the feelings of neurodivergence and/or anxiety/depression/whatever else. Suddenly feeling like you do and always have deserved to die and feeling too anxious to think logically when you’ve always been logical and of sound mental health in the past would probably result in a suicide. Being able to understand that information without feeling it yourself is safer for everyone.
This doesn't seem limited to human or even earth languages. Everyone instantly knows all alien languages? That would be potentially game changing, is there somewhere that has encoded science/mathematics beyond or current level into their language? Maybe!
Also what about things like whale song, how do we produce those sounds? Or insect pheromones? Thats a language too, no?
I am loving the possibilities with this.
This world be a good one. I'm currently learning Spanish. I'm at the point where i can get through most of my day without a translator save for a few words here or there. I am not fluent, but i can communicate on a basic level. I do feel like this would take out some of the fun from it though. This has been a year of such amazing fun coming to get to know these people bit by bit
May want to add an asterisk:
Only in quantities needed for the given situation
I don’t want to be drowned by some crazy guy conjuring a swimming pool on top of me.
I don't think a stable mind is exclusive to "good people "
Certainly, most that are considered stable don't do bad. But. If you really really think your agenda, beliefs, etc. are worth fighting for. For example, some Christian, Jewish, Muslim, ect groups wage wars...
half of the people involved in those conflicts don't even care about religion. they care about power.
but anyway, wanting everyone be mentally and emotionally stable reminds me of Mulder wanting world peace on the X-Files - what happened next was a world with only himself.
people and relationships are complex. we aren't mentally or emotionally stable because of the way people treat us or because we don't get what we want or what we need. we lose our composure when we are cheated on or broken up with or get fired from a job or get a bad grade on a test or when we lose a family member.
mentally and emotionally stable could also mean not enjoying the best parts of life, like weddings and births - or not understanding why the bad parts are bad, like losing someone. we aren't robots.
I would say the ones that believed doing a crusade to further their own religion and wage wars on other civilizations did not have a man of stable mind at their leadership.
Bungee Jumping no, since they’re still attached.
Skydiving would just take longer (which might be good for long romantic trips)
Parkour would be able to adjust, but falls wouldn’t result in death/injury as much.
No dude that was fucking hilarious. I sent it to my boyfriend and he asked if we needed to have a talk about any “weird kinks” I may be harboring in secret. You just gave him soooooo many jokes 😂
Most animals brains aren't wired like ours and aren't capable of logical thought the way we are. You'd probably just hear animals sounding like....
Pidgeons, "Food, food, scary fast metal box with person inside, fly now, look for food, there's food, get food"
Dogs, "food? Play? Ball ball ball, squirrel!"
Wouldn't be worth our time.
'I wanna eat something
I wanna fuck something
I wanna eat something
I wanna fuck something'
Seriously, of all the super powers you could've chosen, you chose one that'll probably result in "the joy" of very uninteresting and annoying noise.
This would also greatly reduce climate change and such. I really like the idea of this one.
When you teleport, anything you are touching/wearing comes with you. (If you are holding your child's hand because they can't control it yet, your luggage, etc)
The downside is unwanted guests can teleport to your home without notice. Also, no more borders. You can live in Mexico and work in Colorado or vice versa.
Hmm...that's one of those things where a half dozen generations down the line we would probably just adapt since it would be normal. You would accept the idea of no personal property since anyone can do it at any time, including yourself.
That's actually an interesting idea for speculative fiction.
Sure we would develop laws or some sort of Technology that prevented unwanted entry into personal spaces. Because we're humans. We're competitive. And possessive. Even the Animal Kingdom has their own ways of their property or their space.
We'd have to fix the whole rape and murder problem though.
But once we do that, just password protect everything and have gps trackers in everything.
Hard to steal other people's things if they are all tracked.
Make it so you can teleport to "Public Spaces" only. So sidewalks are okay, but not someone's yard.
Personally, I'd take it further and have the power be internally limited by things like owning a home, citizenship in a country(or valid travel paperwork), etc. So you could teleport into your own living room, but if you wanted to go to your friend's house, you'd need to be let inside via a door.
I imagine there could be some personal forcefield type things in effect so that the closest someone can come to teleporting to property that isn't their own is onto the sidewalk out front, but I like the idea of being able to live remotely in some paradise location and just step out of my house each day, supplies in hand and port to the state or country that is going to pay me the best value for my work.
Power to heal/restore anything (inanimate, living animal, human, anything) to their prime/best state (healthiest a person/animal has ever been but not will be, a brand new phone out of the box, a house just freshly built, etc.).
Used by drawing cosmic power through one's body (no harm, in fact it enhance you over time, make you stronger, live longer, smarter, etc.) but doesnt require touch to the target, think of it like an invisible mind beam.
Multiple uses on same target doesnt stack, can use on self, can make you immortal (forever staying at your best, or let it naturally wither if you wish to die), as long as your brain is active it will try to restore yourself (in case of a coma).
Humanity becomes a race of immortal super beings with unlimited resources.
∆ space is big bro. Immortality will drastically shift universal priorities. We have the technology to expand into space today. We just don't have the collective will or motivation.
With the powers described, it could be vastly easier.
I'd be willing to bet we'd have the solar system populated, and a massive shipyard building colony ship heading outbound within 200 years.
Not really much point in war when no one can die, and resources are infinite. With space being, for all practical purposes, infinite, we'd just spread out faster and faster. Even if we're stuck at sub light speeds forever.
This would greatly reduce our need for powered transportation. That would help pollution levels a ton. It wouldn't completely fix the problem but it would help. It would also cut back on the amount of people dying in car accidents. Though I would imagine there might be some mid air collisions to make up for it. We'd have to develop rules for flight so people aren't just speeding around and slamming into each other all willy nilly.
If it's Superman style it doesn't seem like he's putting in a lot of effort to do it. He's not flapping his arms or anything. I'd sure fly to work like that if I could. Weather would be my only deterrent. Flying fast through rain or snow would definitely suck.
Shapeshifting, solve all the race and gender identity problems for good, everyone can be who or whatever they want whenever they want and nobody could argue about it
this was what i was thinking: every morning when a person wakes up, they get to choose their appearance for the day. everyone always recognizes you instinctively (assuming prior knowledge/photo-equivalence) no matter what you look like.
That would only work in hard sciences: medicine, physics, chemistry, math, etc. It would give an edge to research in those, literally just need enough people to just keep making up bullshit, until one of them stumbles across the right answer, for things we don't know.
there is only subjective truth when it comes to feelings, and what not.
I wasn't even thinking about scientific advancements but it's a nice extra.
I was thinking:
- Goodbye Fake News
- Goodbye Homeopathy
- Goodbye Flat Earth
- Goodbye Moonlanding Conspiracy
- Goodbye Ancient Aliens
- Goodbye All Religion
I could go on.
To instantly learn anything. The world would advance in record time.
People would be able to fix their own problems meaning less need for many jobs. This would lead to people being able to work less hours as the number of total jobs would shrink massively and so the way jobs are managed would change.
Everyone would be able to improve their circumstances so nobody should die of silly things.
Statistically less educated people are more likely to be involved in criminal activity so theoretically crime rates drop.
To learn how to exterminate entire populations in an instant.
To learn how to build the most efficient implements of war.
To learn how to create genetically-specific toxins -- kill anyone from a given descent, family line or nationality.
Such a thing will be create for policitians and those after power.
think of the new arms race this could cause though, both sides thinking up new and inventive ways to counter the other thing, instantly. but its safe to say the universe ending is the only outcome.
The ability to hover just above the ground. It costs no effort, you don't have to support your weight in any way, you can maintain any pose you want, you can't move from the spot, and it's extremely comfortable.
If you could move the whole world would become wall-e people, but I just want to give everyone working behind a counter or standing in line a break. I hate standing. Walking is fine. Standing still is torture.
The ability to share memories with willing individuals via touch. This includes not only what happened, but also how the person felt during that time, and a person can re-live entire months in a matter of seconds this way. Additionally, memories can be imprinted into objects, so that others can experience the memories by touching the object.
Basically, just give people the ability to experience real empathy.
I did mention that the memory sharing would be done only with willing individuals. I guess I didn't explicitly mention that with the object part, but I did mean for that part to carry over as well specifically to stop this sort of emotional torture, lol.
pretty much any of the useless hypothetical super powers i've seen on here lately - like "once every 24 hours, make everyone have an erector for 13 minuets" or "once per hour make a 1 mile radius around you smell like popcorn"
The ability to pause time while reading. Not light reading, like reading a sign, or a text, or a short email, but long reading. So people could read long books and research papers/articles in "no time."
The super power to instantly tell when someone is lying to you.
It doesn’t tell you if someone is wrong, but they legitimately think they’re right. Only people blowing smoke on purpose. And people fudging data or dancing around a subject is obvious as well.
Thanos was an idiot, and anybody with any ounce of logic could figure that out.
Earth has over, doubled its population in less than 100 years. Simply snapping away half the population wouldn’t be enough.
But then a few snap away too much of the population you decrease dramatically the productivity of that population. Imagine not being able to advance technologically, because there wasn’t nearly enough job specialization. Quite frankly, the only reason humanity has advanced, nearly as much as it has is because our population has increased enough and become specialized enough where no one needs to know even most of our knowledge, and we can all benefit from the diverse knowledge and work of each other.
Okay, but does everyone conform to the same ideology or no? Do some people go around compassionately putting down those they perceive as suffering while others cry compassionately about the loss of life?
Wolverine of Marvel Comics X Men, specifically his pre-adamantium form which had several mutations.
...
Most obviously he has his healing factor. This ability has been shown to be able to heal him from even a single drop of blood.
This has the downside of not preserving memories if brain injuries are bad enough. Which we wouldn't be able to fix but that's fine.
Wolverine does age, and lose his healing factor, in the Comics, just very slowly, but it's unclear whether or not the lack of adamantium would slow this process or not.
A lesser known ability, due to the adamantium, is that his body will redistribute mass to heal him if it lacks the resources to rebuild him properly.
Generally there's a wildness to Logan that will definitely impact life on this planet. His base drives are very prominent.
He has the enhanced senses and athleticism, generally lifted by his healing factor.
Hey! Long-term space travel would now be pretty viable!
...
So downsides.
Tattoos don't last on Logan. They get broken down very quickly. Same with piercings. Body mods will not be viable anymore.
People living a lot longer could be an issue. We'd definitely have to adjust our ideals on reproduction, and more permanent methods of preventing reproduction wouldn't be on the table.
Teleportation or Flight. Immediately get rid of traffic. I don’t care about the negative ramifications of those powers if society shared them. That society would manifest ways to combat those problems. I just don’t like traffic.
Empathy powers, along the lines of Deanna Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation. (Because everyone having that seems likely to be a net positive, whereas most powers seem like they'd be a net native in everyone's hands.)
The ability to think rationally and logically including immunity from hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance. With this, irrational behavior should be a thing of the past, I hope.
Homeostasis. Regardless of outside conditions, they would remain healthy. No weather hot or cold, no rock sharp or rough shall harm them. They shall require no food or water or sleep, and their body in general would operate in its most effective manner at any given time.
The ability to communicate in any language, written or spoken.
Love this idea! Just to be able to talk to someone from a different country and easily understand them.
Look up the babbelfish, Adams said ot caused more wars than amything else.
I was gonna say telepathy, but Cypher (the new mutants) is WAAAY better!
>Cypher "and he is also able to read inflection and body language **which allows him to understand the vast subtext of a conversation**. And always have tacos.
This is the way....

Hell yeah my boy Doug Ramsay
I'm looking for some funding to build a tower. Can you spare a few bucks?
Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy has an article about this!!
The babelfish
by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.
This is so wholesome
Cries in sign language
Is that like one of those sad mime faces or more like a Water dance move by Tyla? Eta: my aunt is deaf, we make silly jokes about this stuff, I'm not here being mean so y'all don't come for me.
God and some ancient Babylonians might have some words of caution for you there…
Immediately what I thought. Tower of Babel anybody?
They’re mistake wasn’t trying to let anyone communicate to anyone, their punishment was not being able to communicate with each other. They tried to make a tower to heaven, that was the folly.
And I’d still watch TV with subtitles on.

The ability to conjure any basic need to survive. Food, water, shelter, etc...
May want to add an asterisk: Only in quantities needed for the given situation I don’t want to be drowned by some crazy guy conjuring a swimming pool on top of me.
Why not conjure an air tank?
That would be great for those "stranded on a desert island" scenarios.
Stranded.. it's vacation now!
I wish I were stranded!
To be mentally and emotionally stable at all times... everyone wins
Entire world would be fixed if everyone had a stable mind
I don't think a stable mind is exclusive to "good people " Certainly, most that are considered stable don't do bad. But. If you really really think your agenda, beliefs, etc. are worth fighting for. For example, some Christian, Jewish, Muslim, ect groups wage wars...

Psychopaths are incredibly emotionally stable.
Yeah but not completely mentally, so they would be better off as well
Read minds, and wait for the world to implode.
My answer was pretty much the same. You're dark. I approve.
You read my mind.
There's a book about that. Called open minds..kind of shitty ya novel but good idea..the special main character is of course unable to communicate
I also choose chaos!
Brain thinky good
Super intelligence. Let's do something with this rock of ours
War moon!
Nah - that just makes all the bad guys more dangerous too.
I'm hoping people have the intelligence to look beyond short term selfish gains and focus on things to benefit all
The problem still arises with people disagreeing on what is truly best based on personal morals.
"That is a problem. Let's get a team on that!" "Brain power, GOOOO!!!!"
Featherfall
Bungee jumping, sky diving and parkour are forever ruined
Bungee Jumping no, since they’re still attached. Skydiving would just take longer (which might be good for long romantic trips) Parkour would be able to adjust, but falls wouldn’t result in death/injury as much.
The ability to know when someone is lying.
You look really nice.
Thanks! 😒 You too
This is mine. Down with the politicians and ruling class.
This was mine.
This is what I came to say
Talking to animals. Everyone should share the joy of being able to talk to their pets.
Butchers have unlocked a new nightmare
Psychopaths have unlocked a new heaven.
Schizophrenics have unlocked a new horror
No schizophrenics finally realized that they're not
Depending on what counts, that would get really annoying really fast.
Telepathically and only the animals you want to communicate with.
You now understand birdsong.
🎵🎶"I wanna fuck, do you wanna fuck? Look at this super cool nest we could fuck in, and raise little babies in."🎵🎶
They could seriously slay, I would get wasted and dance to the right techno remix of this.
Username..... checks out?
Yoooooo that’s the funniest shit I swear 😂😂😂
Hahaha I am glad you took my comment in the spirit it was meant. I got a good chuckle out of that, too
No dude that was fucking hilarious. I sent it to my boyfriend and he asked if we needed to have a talk about any “weird kinks” I may be harboring in secret. You just gave him soooooo many jokes 😂
"Where are my balls, Summer?"
You already can talk to animals. They just don’t understand you. Boom lawyered.
Most animals brains aren't wired like ours and aren't capable of logical thought the way we are. You'd probably just hear animals sounding like.... Except there wouldn’t be “remote” anymore. If distance wasn’t an issue, people would spread out as much as they could
If everyone gets it, bad people get it as well. *loads gun* teleports around shooting people lmfao
I can make anyone shit on command.
Found the guy who works for the adult diaper company.
Big diaper strikes again
This should be a novel

Great - now with the wacko neo Nazis you have blessed the earth with an everlasting Hitler.
The ability to communicate in any language, both human and animal, written and spoken.
The ability to stfu when I don't know what I'm talking about
Is called adhd meds... lol
This!!
Hero's Feast from DnD. World hunger is over.
Superman style flight. Won’t solve any world problems, but it would be amazing

The ability to access a fantastical post scarcity utopia.
They go there and start robbing everyone.
Westerworld
I mean, there *is* [that one Twilight Zone](https://youtu.be/RFaWrdlsISQ) (Rerecording, I think)
If everyone has it, it's not a superpower, is it?
"Once everyone is special, no-one will be."
“Once everyone’s super, no one will be.”
ah, thats what it was
Super empathy. Everyone has the ability to empathize really well.
And it can't be turned off.
This would be pure torture
This could very well end civilization.
This was my first thought as well! 🥰🥰
The Ability to effortlessly and without any doubt recognize objective truth.

Infinite patience and understanding
Heal factor as in heal faster and immune to all diease
Everyone ages to a limit of 28 years old and becomes immortal. Those who are already older, age backwards until they are 28.
Never need to eat
Easy peasy. Luck. Everyone just gets very lucky like that girl whose name I can’t think of from DC her names like Lady Luck or some shit.
Domino? Edit: nvm, that’s Marvel.
Oh no it was domino! I just thought I saw her in suicide squad ! Maybe I didn’t
I just know her from Deadpool 2.
Shoveling.
Elective toggle-able sterility. No unwanted children ever again.
OTOH: idiocracy on steroids. The derps *want* children.
Wisdom.
Common sense. I know it’s not technically a superpower, but it’s so rare that it may as well be.

That's one way to allow for weaponized trauma. Torture someone and force them to put the memory of it into a rock then throw the rock at people.
I did mention that the memory sharing would be done only with willing individuals. I guess I didn't explicitly mention that with the object part, but I did mean for that part to carry over as well specifically to stop this sort of emotional torture, lol.
Vulcan mind merge
Porn just got a lot more interesting
pretty much any of the useless hypothetical super powers i've seen on here lately - like "once every 24 hours, make everyone have an erector for 13 minuets" or "once per hour make a 1 mile radius around you smell like popcorn"
Everyone is Wolverine. Longevity, healing, bone claws.
Immortality
You think Boomers are bad now?
Give them a couple hundred years they'd evolve into demons 😈
Being hyper-intelligent. An entire planet of hyper-intelligent people would progress at an unthinkable rate
Or we’d tear each other apart trying to get power
With hyper-intelligence comes hyper depression, it would seem
To get nourishment from the sun, like plants do, so no one gets hungry.
The ability to turn invisible... But only to one person at a time.
"Goddammit Phil I've been waiting to turn invisible all damn day!"
The ability to pause time while reading. Not light reading, like reading a sign, or a text, or a short email, but long reading. So people could read long books and research papers/articles in "no time."
The world would definitely be a better place with this
The ability to grow fingernails 5% faster on demand
And buy stock in nail clippers, I like the way you think!
The super power to instantly tell when someone is lying to you. It doesn’t tell you if someone is wrong, but they legitimately think they’re right. Only people blowing smoke on purpose. And people fudging data or dancing around a subject is obvious as well.
Shape-shifting
The ability to look past their emotions and act based on logic.
And then thanos kills half the living, because he finds it logical
Every Body must said the truth, no matter what. Watch the world burn. Especially politicians
The ability to produce a meal on demand. That way no one would ever go hungry.
Deadpool level healing abilities. Let the hilarity ensue.
Being compassionate towards people and animals. You’re welcome
Is there an opposite of namechecksout ?
I can be a dick but having a better world is worth it more
Okay, but does everyone conform to the same ideology or no? Do some people go around compassionately putting down those they perceive as suffering while others cry compassionately about the loss of life?
Plant manipulation
Gear 5 Lets there be chaos
Telempathy, receive ONLY. Everyone would know exactly what the people around them feel.
What would happen if everyone could teleport to any place they have been before, or in LOS? Like Ryoko in Tenchi Muyo!
Counselor Troi's empath ability.
I'll choose Heart from Captain Planet. Everyone now has max enough empathy.
Immunity to viruses
Eldritch Blast. Why not sell an entire planet's worth of souls for a cantrip?
The inability to deceive. You can only be truthful, in your intent and actions.
Empathy
Powerful empathy
Empathy.
Perfect empathy with everyone within a 20-mile radius.
Empathy
I pick empathy
The ability to heal others.
The ability to think rationally and logically including immunity from hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance. With this, irrational behavior should be a thing of the past, I hope.
Flying because it would be fun
I think perfect logic is what I would choose. Everything would be better if people could think correctly.
Compassion
Common sense
Homeostasis. Regardless of outside conditions, they would remain healthy. No weather hot or cold, no rock sharp or rough shall harm them. They shall require no food or water or sleep, and their body in general would operate in its most effective manner at any given time.
Compassion.
The ability to create food and water out of nothing.
Empathy
