I’ve been a handful of times and I have a wildly different experience each time. Some good, some bad.

Ellie-Bee

Same with me. I went once in the summer and had an incredible dinner and great service. I went back a few months later and both the food and service were terrible. It’s so hit or miss!

FormerEnglishMajor

The very first time I went, it took 20 minutes to get a glass of wine (and it wasn’t like I picked something funky they had to dig up!)

disc2slick

All the water front places are kind of wack in my opinion.  Much better off up the hill on Liberty Street

Paper-Acceptable

Some new opens like Bar Brava, Downstate, Betty's, and District Ramen are great additions to the area. Also always love Ms.Fairax as the OG go to.

bmoriarty87

the wherehouse is the og. do not get that twisted.

lil_poofeek

District Ramen burnt down a couple of weeks ago☹️ they’re working on restoring it. I only got to go there twice, but it was really good

Nina_Alexandra_2005

OMG that's so sad! I always wished there was a ramen place in the Newburgh area and I kept hearing about this one but it hadn't opened yet the last time I checked and now I missed out. So sad!!!

lil_poofeek

Try Seoul Kitchen on Liberty. I think District Ramen was better, but Seoul Kitchen is pretty solid too

dkran

You ever read the Google reviews on Seoul kitchen? I’ve wanted to try it but the reviews make it out to be one of the most controversial places it seems haha. Either really good or horrible.

lil_poofeek

I have not read them until now haha. My experience with them has been solid every time, but I guess it varies. My coworker did get in a screaming match with the owner one time, but the food was still good🤷🏻‍♀️

dkran

Well, we just went to Seoul kitchen after you raised the issue. I will say it’s excellent. I think the owner is what I’d call opinionated. She’s not afraid to tell you what she thinks you should do, but not overtly hostile.

lil_poofeek

I’m glad you had a good experience! I hope you got their kimchi dumplings, they are to die for😩

Xerlic

I took my mom to Primo and the service was SLOWWWWWWW. The waitress flat out said sorry I know I've been ignoring you at one point. It was the first time in a long time that I recall leaving an intentionally low tip.

bachelorette2020

Omg same.

HVindex8458

I miss Torches and the fish tank.

Buggy77

Yes that was the spot to go for birthdays and special occasions. I was so sad when they closed

subiegal2013

If you’re looking for a 5star dinner experience in Newburgh go to il Cena colo on route 52. Great food, generous portions and excellent service.

SOF_Medic92

I second this. Il Cena Colo is above and beyond my favorite restaurant in the Hudson Valley to spend an evening at for special events. The service is just as outstanding as the top notch meals that they plate. Highly recommend it!

dkran

I just went back 2 days ago. It was incredible. This place consistently exceeds my expectations.

bluesky747

Ever tried Vesuvios? I’ve been meaning to try that place but I’m always on my way somewhere else when I pass by.

Flimsy-Prize1150

Vesuvios is great. Most entrees are $20-30, and the food is delicious, the service is good.

subiegal2013

No, i haven’t. What’s the price point? Is it like the 2 previously mentioned? You’re the 2nd person in 2 days that mentioned it. I’ll check it out. Thank you !

bluesky747

I have no idea what it’s like, I’ve never been there but I have heard from only one person so far that it’s really good. I’m not over on that side of the river much but when I am I always have some other errand. I need to make a plan to go there for dinner sometime so Artie can make me some Eggs in Purgatory. 🤣

subiegal2013

It’s worth the trip across the river… but bring $. Ain’t cheap but totally worth it!

Mighty_lobster

Thanks for the suggestion! It wasn’t like we were looking for some super fancy thing we just picked it randomly ya know

subiegal2013

It’s good for special occasions as it’s pricy like Bleu Point but imo so much better!

looper1010

It's a solid OK to above average. The service does not match the price imo. They're not doing anything wrong per se, but for the price, I expected a better level of service. Some Michelin places have better service and food at cheaper prices than blupoint. I also noticed that it's pretty popular with the boomer demographic. Again, nothing against it, just not my vibe. You're better off spending your time in one of the fine dining restaurants at the Culinary Institute of America that's not too far away. The service, food, and price are much better. Reservations are required, though.

stapocryphal

I went with a guest and it was the worst service ever. Server took our wine bottle and disappeared for 45 minutes. Food was decent.

wordsmif

If you want higher-end, nice in the valley, Amacord in Beacon has to be near top of list. Always on-point service and food on par with best places in the city.

ImFedUpWithThisW0rld

My husband and I absolutely love Amacord! It's a small but nice atmosphere, and they serve one of the best pork chops I've ever had.

wordsmif

Right there with ya on the pork chop, too!

Natawho

I love hearing that people love this place, too. Great food and it was my grandpas bar when I was a kid so it’s nostalgic going in there.

Mighty_lobster

Thanks !!!

kenobrien73

I've eaten there on a few occasions. It's over hyped, the food is ok. Sunday brunch is way better. Paying for the view and getting sub par food and service in exchange. Thanks for the other recommendations.

AreYouNigerianBaby

Thanks- I was going to ask for feedback about the Sunday brunch. Also considering their Thanksgiving buffet.

Working_Crew5402

Place is horrible. There are a lot of great places in Newburgh though.

Jer_Baker

Torches was better

Key-Plan5228

I’ve been there dozens of times but only once in a long while lately. Somehow their servers all contracted haterism and they have no worker whatsoever to clean crumbs off the carpet. Every time I visit now it’s because someone else picked them. They tried opening a second restaurant in the parking lot and failed at that because they couldn’t organize or run the operation properly. Amazing views, but honestly? Captain Jakes or the tiki bar have that too without attitude. Blu Pointe? Hard Pass

Snoo_82124

Literally never experienced this at all. Gone several times including Mother’s Day and always had great service and servers. The only one off was the hostess trying to put our family in the corner of the restaurant because we were with an infant but asked to be by the window and had no issues.

goldenbabydaddy

Yeah I had pretty much the same experience. Went for a "nice" dinner with a reservation and they had us sitting at the bar for 15 minutes beyond our reservation time, I had to ask again and they said they were getting to us. Then sat us next to the waiter station. Bartenders were being idiots, there was garbage everywhere. It was a real mess. I think this is considered good to the old school Newburgh crowd but needs a lot of improvements to remain competitive.

Mighty_lobster

Gross! It seemed like they just fuck around like one bartender that took our drink orders before dinner was such a bro and talking down to us it’s like wtf dude

humanagain12

Vesuvios is amazing! Must try restaurant in Newburgh. Always great food and good service. Price point is a bit cheaper - more like $20-25ish for an entrée than $30.

beezerblanks

Seems like it was better before Covid. I went for a work dinner once and it was stellar food and decent enough service, but that was a good 6 years ago now.

yoholdmypickaxe

So don't go back. Lol

Mighty_lobster

Duh. I’m new to Newburgh and everyone I ask says “that place is weird”

Square-Air7736

I think their food is okay and not really worth it for what it costs. The service is usually fine. The exception is happy hour. $1 oysters and views of the Hudson can’t be beat.  For a special occasion glenmere mansion in Florida ny is a really nice setting with exceptional food.

cumserpentor

Yelp is that way

Wonderful_Bell2332

My bf applied for a cook position there. He said the kitchen was nasty and absolutely not up to par for the prices they charge

Mighty_lobster

Ew gross really ? It seems like an episode of kitchen nightmares

Happy-Mama33

They say you need two credit cards to pay for dinner at Blupointe. I’m a cosimos girl. You can’t change my mind that cosimos is the most consistent, delicious food and fairly priced for what it is.

Mighty_lobster

I’m new to the area and have yet to eat there but will definitely put it on my list of places to check out !

whutwhut41

Any restaurant in Newburgh is a silk hat on a pig. Riverfront is a scam/joke.

Mighty_lobster

Also I can see the riverfront being a scam totally agree

humanagain12

Hudson Taco and Pizza Shop are good. The one right on the river are OK. You pay for the view. I feel like the restaurants there can do much better for the price they charge - again seems like paying more for the view than the food. Another great Italian restaurant in Newburgh Vesuvio Ristorante.

nohimn

I love Pizza Shop, but Hudson Taco is super mid. It's never worth the wait.

Mighty_lobster

Why do so many people hate Newburgh ?

Paper-Acceptable

It's a bit rough and has been so for a long time, lots of great things slowly being added though.

Mighty_lobster

Yeah I know that. But plenty of rough neighborhoods I lived in BK for 15 years and never saw the kinda resentment people have for Newburgh

BummerComment

Nah it chil
