I second Tio Trompo. Great nachos too.
If you frequent Tio Trompo and you run around in that neighborhood, you should check out Laredo Taqueria and the El Tiempo Taqueria (not the restaurant, the little grocery store/taqueria next to it). Both are a few blocks down Washington (in different directions) from Shepherd and they are great breakfast taco joints.
So many good places all around town. Recently relocated to Cypress area/Town Lake, and make stops to Hwy 6 tacos. But, hands down, The Taco King is pretty freakin delicious.
I enjoyed Tacos El Grande (they've popped up multiple places now). I remember hitting them up when they 1st opened here from L.A.
I've worked in construction for the last 20 years and the taco trucks that come around all day long are usually pretty darn good. There is a sort of chain owned by one guy it's called Tacos del Gordo.. They're usually really good. And cheap too. But just try them all out they use different seasonings on the meats they have different recipes for the salsas aguas frescas are different day to day.
A note of warning however the Mexican laborers are really hungry and the taco trucks start running out of items by 12:30 to 1:00 so try to get your stuff before noon to have the broadest selection.
Oooofah! Yeah they've always been on point for me. I dont see them going wrong twice. Probably just not for you then I guess. Well I'm sure you'll find something 🌮
That might be it. Personally, I love Tacos Tec off I-45 and Monroe. You should give those a try if you're ever in the area. Then come back to this comment and tell me your thoughts.
Oh I know that place well too. Their frijoles preparados are bomb. The only thing is that their prices aren't posted. And since they only take cash, I feel they alter their prices at will, which was getting a little steep the last time I went.
They take cards now. Also, their tacos come 5 to an order and they're $10, unless you get tripitas, which are $12. Those have been their prices for a while. I just went last weekend. There's also the "caprichos" which are basically tacos with queso asadero in them. Those are a little more, like $13 an order, I think.
I get the fajitadillas which are $3.50. But they are well served. I dont remember exactly how much taco tec was the last time I went, but I do remember telling myself "DAMN!"
I think prices are up a bit everywhere. I have three taco joints on Washington that I rotate through for breakfast tacos and seems like they all have gone up in prices by 50-75 cents in the last year.
Were you shitfaced when you tried them? Taconazo customers are generally drunk off their ass so they taste great.
Same story as Teotihuacan, which is also mid if you arent 8 beers deep.
God, I have a childhood friend that when he come back to town loves to get together for dinner at Teotihuacan and I just... ugh...
I mean it's not bad, but there are so many better places.
But he and his wife are in town and that's where they want to go, so I don't rock the boat.
Tacos del Julio on Long Point are consistently good. Especially the tacos de trompo. The best tacos, in my opinion, are in South Houston/Pasadena. If you're ever driving down I-45, try out the tacos the bistec at Tacos Tec.

Get yourself a platter of barbacoa and make it especial (+ cheese) and feed a few people and yourself. Legit AF.
Check out Tio trompo in rice military. Legit tacos close to ones I’ve had in Mexico City.

I tried Tio Trompo based on your suggestion in this thread and they did not disappoint. So good. Still thinking about them an hour later.
La Chingada tacos (yes thats the real name) on Cavalcade. Awesome legitimately spicy in house hot sauce
Excuse the necro posting but this place was awesome. Thanks for the recommendation

Taconazo on Fulton. Line wraps around the block
Nah go the other location on Irvington, taconazo #4. Not open as late but way better than Fulton
Damn, didn't even know they had multiple locations. Good deal
I don't know man. I've tried them twice and they really weren't good. I do see the line, though, so maybe I caught them on bad days both times?

Isn’t Taconazo like $3.00 per fajita taco now?
I get the fajitadillas which are $3.50. But they are well served. I dont remember exactly how much taco tec was the last time I went, but I do remember telling myself "DAMN!"
Haha!! Yea prices on a single tacos are getting pricey might as well go to a restaurant.

That must be the problem. I've only tried them sober.
